okay so since im vodwatching

I think derap showing up as soon as he woke up and logging on to talk to zam because he was frustrated and then finding him mining the diorite in jumpers hole and immediately starting mining with him - it's just such a perfect introduction to the the dynamic of zam and derap on atlas cos really, every other atlas moment so far was just talking plans.

As soon as Derap starts mining the diorite, zam is like questioning why and tries to tell derap that he doesn't need help

Zam: "Why are you helping me collect this, you don't need to do that, I don't need that much. Derap: "Why would I n- Why would I not help you? Hello?"

He says it like helping him collect diorite, which is such a small trivial thing to do, is the most sound and obvious course of action here. And to Derapchu, it is, because Zam is his teammate and in his quest to support his teammate to the fullest, he sees zam doing something he can help with and so, he does. He doesn't know what the diorite is for, he just helps, cause he can, no questions asked.

Zam on the other hand questions this, he's sorta like caught off guard by Derap helping with a thing so trivial as collecting diorite, and tries to deny the help since he's so used to collecting resources and rebuilding spawn alone this season. It was also probably a little jarring since the help wasn't asked for, or offered- it just happened, and Zam, being a person who values himself based on how much he can help others, immediately questions it.

(also after they both stop because Zam says that he has enough and after mane drops by, Zam begins collecting diorite again while talking to kab, and Derapchu starts again collecting too - he only stops to msg zam to leave.)

Derap needs Zam more than Zam needs him. Sure, Zam is beginning to rely on Derap some, and Derap is a good influence on him to be more selfish and stand up for himself( like against Kab), but Zams been on his own for a long time and before Derap posed being teammates, Zam was prepared to be on his own longer.

J don’t think Derap can handle being on his own like that. Derap has wanted a team for, forever basically, and I think his recent conversation with Wembu post revival really highlights that. Derap pretty much blames Wembu for making no one want to team with him. And he is really upset by that, he couldn’t find anyone to team with him, until Zam. Derap was going to give evryhting to his team, when he was desperately wanting to team with the Sticklers, he was going to give them his hearts. He was prepared to give everything and all of him to a potential team.

But that didn’t work out, and then Zam showed up. Someone willing to put up with all Deraps trials and tests, their morals mostly lining up and even better he had no team. Zam proved himself to be reliable and Derap even felt like he could help Zam. But they’re not equal in how much a betrayal would hurt, not even close. Another betrayal would be devastating for Zam, he’s been hurt so many times this season, and who knows how he would take another betrayal of this magnitude. But for Derap, he would lose everything. Zam will always have Mapicc even if they’re going through a rough patch right now, he could probably team with the empire if he fully committed, he’s got Kab and Poafa in his corner and even Eccoridor ! What does Derap have to do? Wembu doesn’t even want to log on ever again, and by teaming with Zam he’s effectively burned several bridges. What I’m trying to say is that Derap needs Zam. (More than the other way around)

huge wanted posters are put up at mawn for both derap and zam, deraps eyes have x's crossed over his eyes with stab marks in the poster with ripped edges while zams is clean and pristine

deraps poster says "wanted only dead" with "dead" circled repeatedly in red ink and "alive" completely scratched out

zams poster says "wanted only alive", while "dead" wasn't even printed on it and someone scribbled on the bottom saying "only to be brought when mapics around"

both are oblivious to the wanted posters existence for weeks till derap flies over mawn without getting blindness for once and screams upon seeing the huge posters with their faces on it

zam finds out about them when he wakes up to derap blowing up his phone complaining about how ridiculous the posters are while zams trying his best not to laugh seeing pictures of both posters side by side

i like to think its mapicc who keeps stabbing deraps wanted posters upset that derap hasnt been caught yet, meanwhile for zams poster mapicc keeps replacing the posters for each day zam hasnt caught that way they can be as pretty as possible when he inevitably (in mapiccs head) comes back

i was actually thinking of my own version after posting it as well detailed below:

both derap and zam are wanted alive but the differemce between them is that mapicc wants to kill derap himself and doesnt care what his health status is while he wants zam to be hurt as little as possible

deraps wanted poster is tattered and dusty and put on a sign with a tack and valued at $10,000.00 with a lazily written note at the bottom where it says "dead = $1,000.00" that way hunters are encouraged to bring him alive but also he wont be Completely mad if he died during a scuffle

zams wanted poster is hung in a frame that is cleaned by mapicc himself everyday thats valued at $10,000,000.00 with a red carefully written note at the bottom that says "Zam can also turn himself in. Please."

pangi was actually the one who showed it to derap and zam with a picture while he was visiting zaun, derap screeched out "what?!" in that way he usually does while zam essentially goes "oh no" and worries what it could mean for them

Derap has this mindset where he puts preference on ending the conflict that is done against him as fast as possible.

I started thinking about it when he would so exhaustedly say he "just wanted this to be over" about mapicc hunting him down way back when. He wanted to just give a heart or give away his hearts, anything to just end it.

And now that Mapicc's killed him he's so focused on how that ends their conflict. How the only thing Mapicc could possibly be upset about is Zaun fighting him and he's pushing it So Hard that Zaun is peaceful. Like he desperately just wants there to be no conflict there. He wants Zam to be safe, he wants to be safe, he wants Zaun not to get blown up.

No conflict no conflict no conflict. Cut Mapicc out until he apologizes, this isn't our issue. And to Leo: my advice to you is to log off if mapicc or flame log on. Conflict averse. More and more desperate each day to remain safe and peaceful.

(also like, this is really so core to Derap. Because he's freaky like Roshambo without prompting, but he's freaky like Derapchu when someone starts pressing something he doesn't like and he turns on maximum freak to get them to stop and change conversation. It's instinctual at this point.)

And it's so interesting because this desperate plea of peace is already cracking. It's going to explode eventually. Everyone is salivating over zaun being the perfect scapegoat. Because on a deeper lifesteal level you can't remove yourself from the conflict and be peaceful while also Having Something. If you Have Something you must be Doing Something with it. This is just like vitalasy. And subz pacifism. and pb&j. and on and on. you can't just Not. (though it is interestingly So similar to Vi insisting he wasn't going to be the villain. Zaun is the perfect resistance group and they are Denying It and insisting it's nothing. and the more they insist they're not the more the server insists that they are.)

This season also has been having a huge theme of "satisfaction", not giving it, not getting it. But satisfaction is the lifeblood of the server. You fight a war until you're satisfied. If you have an unsatisfying ending you keep fighting. Denying one side the satisfaction just delays the inevitable, it doesn't end the conflict. The cycles runs on satisfaction: you killed me an I'm not satisfied with that, I get revenge until I am, you get revenge until you are.

And in this conflict aversion, Derap also has this underlying denying the satisfaction. He didn't want to *actually* be killed by Mapicc, specifically saying he didn't want to "give him the satisfaction". And with Zaun he doesn't want to give Mape the satisfaction of having a war, he just wants it over.

It's hardly just Derap, most of the server has been talking about satisfaction this season. It's been really interesting. But the combo of Derap's conflict aversion mindset and satisfaction mindset is its own perfect storm that is causing disaster between devotions and boiling up to something truly disastrous server wide.

its kinda crazy to me how many people i seen call kab manipulative and treating it was entirely malicious in its intent, yet i see very few people pointing out that derap is also. being manipulative and expecting so much of the people he trusts— like "trust me or you just die" is such an insane test to do and its crazy bc i do nawt believe he'd react well if pangi or zam or whoever tested him like he tests them constantly

im not saying kab isnt manipulative or that shes faultless bc she has done a lot wrong and a lot to hurt the people around her— esp zam. but its interesting bc her and derap just dont seem to be held to the same standards by the wider fandom even though they both seem to default to manipulation and attempted control so they feel secure w their friends and allies.

it isnt done w malicious intent, but they are still hurting the people around them and expecting far too much from the people theyve latched onto. they dont seem to understand unconditional loyalty is something that doesnt ACTUALLY exist, and it is not the exact same as having a friend u know u can rely on consistently no matter what. even having a friendship like mapicc and zam, mapicc and ro, vi and subz, or any of the likes ISNT abt never disagreeing or never acting against them in any situation ever.

its trust built over time and from experiencing lifesteal together. its about winning together, losing together, fighting side by side, and knowing when to stand up for urself and to fight against them if they are doing smt that truly hurts u and/or goes directly against your own morals and beliefs. it isnt abt "youll trust me no matter what and just accept it even if im doing smt i know will upset u", its abt knowing that u can still be friends at the end of the day. that, come a new season, or a new arc, they are still someone u can have fun w and rely on to continue to be themselves w you.

their attempts to force a bond like that will only hurt themselves and their relationship w the people around them in the long run, but i feel like this is a lesson theyll need to learn w time and by experiencing it themselves bc theyre too lonely and desperate to be by someones side currently to realize it yet.

edit : had a funny realization that there is ONE relationship on the server that seems to be exactly what kab and derap are searching for, and its mane and flame. they want and expect the same loyalty from their teammate that flame has for mane. flame goes directly against his own morals and and beliefs bc mane asks it of him, and passively follows down manes path of destruction simply bc theyre teammates. he doesnt even think mane is right, but that doesnt matter simply bc the only thing he cares abt on LS is mane. he likes other people like pangi, pentar, and zam but he would kill just abt anyone if it was part of manes plan simply bc he has no path of his own— he hasnt found himself yet, so hes following mane nd his ideals.

I think it's interesting parallels how both 4c and zam have fulfilled the role as builders on the server, but while zam rebuilds spawn and seeks to protect it, 4c is building re:spawn, a spawn that seeks to replace the previous one, one seeks to create alongside destruction, while the other seeks to preserve at any cost, opposing destruction, one is the cycle of preservation in response to destruction while the other seeks to break that cycle, I think its interesting how in lifesteal even building relates to conflict, a conflict of ideology that spills into violence and has a physical impact on the world as building itself becomes a statement
