    Mahendra Singh Dhoni  is an International Cricketer who captained the Indian National Team in limited over formats from 2007 to 2016 and win test cricket from 2008 to 2014.

Full name: Mahendra Singh Pansingh Dhoni Born on : 7 July 1981, Ranchi Bihar India, Role: wicket keeper batsman.

Dhoni studied at DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali, Ranchi, Jharkhand where he initially excelled in badminton and football and was selected at district and club level in these sports. Dhoni was a goalkeeper for his football team and was sent to play cricket for a local cricket club by his football coach. Though he had not played cricket, Dhoni impressed with his wicket-keeping skills and became the regular wicketkeeper at the commando cricket club (1995-1998). Based on his performance at club cricket, he was picked for the 1997/98 season vinoo mankad Trophy under -16 championship and he performed well. Dhoni focused on cricket after his 10 standard.

    In 1998, Dhoni was selected by Deval Sahay to play for the Central Coal fields Limited (CCL) team. Till 1998 Dhoni, who was in class 12th in school, had played only school cricket and club cricket and no professional cricket. Playing for CCL, he got a chance to bat up the order. He grabbed the opportunity and scored centuries and helped CCL move to A division. During the series between India and Australia in 2009, Dhoni hit an aggressive 124 runs in just 107 balls, in the second ODI, and a measured knock of 71 runs in 95 balls, along with Yuvraj Singh. And saw India home by 6 wickets in the third ODI. Dhoni took his first wicket in international cricket o  30 September 2009. He bowled travis dowlin of the west Indies during a match of the 2009 championship trophy. Dhoni had an excellent year in ODI's in 2009.

    He is the only captain in the history of cricket to win all ICC trophies. Under his captaincy, India won the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, the 2010 and 2016 Asia cups, the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup and the 2013 ICC Champions  Trophy.

He is also regarded by some as one of the best wicket-keepers and captains in modern limited-overs International cricket. A right-handed middle- order batsman and wicket-keeper, Dhoni is one of the highest run scorers in One Day Internationals (ODIs) with more than 10,000 runs scored and is considered an effective ‘finisher’ in limited over formats. He made his ODI debut in December 2004 against Bangladesh, and played his first Test a year later against Sri Lanka. Dhoni has been the recipient of many awards, including the ICC ODI player of the year. Award in 2008 and 2009, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratana award in 2007, the Padma Shri, Indian’s fourth highest civilian honour, in 2009 and the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian of the ICC World Text 11 in 2009,2010 and he has also been selected a record 8 times in ICC World ODI 11 teams, 5 times  as captain. The Indian Territorial Army Conferred the honorary rank of Lieutenant colonel to Dhoni on 1 November 2011. He is the second Indian cricketer after Kapil Dev to receive this honour.

    In 2013, under his captaincy, India became the first team in more than 40 years to white wash Australia in a test series. In the Indian Premier League, he captained the Chennai Super Kings to victory at the 2010,2011 and 2018 seasons, along with wins in the 2010 and 2014 editions of Champions League Twenty20. In 2011, Time magazine included Dhoni in its annual Time 100 list as one of the “most Influential people in the world. India cements is the owner of the IPL team Chennai Super Kings, and Dhoni has been its captain since the first IPL season. Dhoni is the co-owner of Indian super league team chennaiyin FC. In June 2015, Forbes ranked Dhoni at 23rd in the list of highest paid athletes in the world. In 2016 biopic M.S Dhoni: The untold story was made about his life and cricketing career. In June 2013, when India defected England in the final of the champions Trophy in England, Dhoni became the first captain to win all three ICC limited overs trophies.     In November 2013, Dhoni became the second Indian batsman after the Sachin Tendulkar to aggregate, 1000 or more ODI runs against Australia. During the 2015 cricket World Cup, Dhoni became the first Indian Captain to win all group stages matches in such a tournament.

Dhoni is a right handed batsman and wicket keeper. Initially, Dhoni appeared as a lower order attacking batsman but he gradually changed his playing style to deal with high pressure scenarios and his growing responsibility as a captain. He is a powerful hitter of the ball and is one of the fastest men in running between the wickets. He made use of the helicopter shot technique.

    Dhoni married Sakshi Singh Rawat, his schoolmate in DAV  Jawahar Vidya Mandir. At the time of their marriage, she was studying hotel management and was working as a trainee at the Taj Bengal, Kolkata. Dhoni became a father on 6 February 2015 to a baby girl named Ziva. At the time of her birth, Dhoni was in Australia as the captain of Indian team with 2015 cricket World Cup only a week to kick off. He decided not to travel back to India and was famously quoted saying that “ I am on national duty, other things can wait.”

Home Minister Amit Shah unveils mascot of 36th National Games in Ahmedabad

Sep 04, 2022 22:54 IST Ahmedabad (Gujarat) , September 4 (AF): Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the city of Ahmedabad would soon be developed as the world's biggest sports city in the world. The National Games will be organised from September 29 to October 12 in six cities in the state namely Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhavnagar. Speaking at the unveiling function of the anthem and mascot for the 36th National Games at the EKA Arena, TransStadia here in Ahmedabad, Shah, said: "Ten years ago, when Modiji was the Chief Minister here, he started the Khel Mahakumbh. At that time Gujarat was nowhere in sports on the global map. "Now, we have the Narendra Modi Stadium, the largest stadium in the world, and very soon we will have the world's biggest sports city too," Shah said, addressing over 10,000 people at the majestic venue. The Home Minister, who is also the MP from Gandhi Nagar, led a power-packed audience at the glittering Curtain-Function, including Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel and Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Anurag Thakur. The country's grandest sporting extravaganza will take place in six cities of Gujarat, from September 29 to October 12. "Once upon a time, we Gujjus were mostly seen as just businessmen. But Modiji started Khel Mahakumbh 11 years back and that event has become so big that as many as 55 lakh youngsters took part in this edition. We even offered a whopping Rs 29 crore as prize money to the winners," Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said. "We are delighted that the National Games are back after 7 years and this will one will be the biggest and grandest ever," Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said. "It normally takes years to organise an event of this scale but Gujarat did this in less than three months. It is all thanks to the efforts of the CM, with IOA supporting our initiative in a big way. Over 12,000 athletes, officials and support stage will enjoy not only the sporting extravaganza but also the garba here," he added. Top dignitaries from the world of politics and sport were present on the occasion, including Shri Harsh Sanghavi, Gujarat Minister for Sports and IOA secretary general Rajeev Mehta. From A Goalkeeper to Wicket-keeper

Cricket was not his favorite sport in school. In addition to that, he was a huge fan of Sachin Tendulkar.

Football was his favorite sport from childhood. Mahi was a superb goalkeeper for his school's football team. Mahi began playing football at a very young age at the district level in Ranchi.

A cricket club approached Mahi after being impressed with his excellent goalkeeping. He accepted their offer to join the team as the wicketkeeper. MS Dhoni joined the cricket team and immediately fell in love with the game. As a result of Dhoni's coaching skills, he became the regular wicketkeeper in Commando Cricket Club, where his journey into cricket began.

Affection for Cricket grew

Dhoni played three seasons for that club. Dhoni's interest gradually shifted to batting. As a result of continual practice, he has become an excellent batsman. In addition to this club, he became popular at school and in other clubs because of his mind-blowing sixes. Aside from being selected to the Under 16 Championship, Mahi also displayed excellent performance in 1997-98.

When Dhoni began working for the railway, he took an exam and eventually got a job. As a TTE (Traveling Ticket Examiner), Mahi went to Kharagpur Railway for the first time in 2001. Mahi continued to play cricket while doing such a hectic job.

The first meeting with Sachin Tendulkar

Dilip's Trophy marked the first time Dhoni and Tendulkar met. Sachin was the 12th man in the middle against Dhoni, and Dhoni was part of his team. His role was to serve drinks to his teammates. Mahi also asked Sachin for water from Mahi during that match. Dhoni gave Mahi the water with an innocent smile.

A Breakthrough Moment

When he was not an international player, something happened to him. He met a girl named Priyanka. Priyanka and he began to like each other. It was a serious relationship between them both.

Amid their affair, Dhoni was selected by India for the national team as his game and manner became more admired. He went on a foreign tour to play cricket. Upon coming back to India, he was shocked to hear some news. Priyanka had a road accident, which led to her death, a friend of Dhoni told him. Dhoni was quite distressed during those moments. There were rumors that he might have to quit the game. But he came back even better.
