Holding Out for a Hero - 10
3 days.
It had been 3 days since Asher kissed him and since he kissed Darlin.
Fuck!
Somehow, he hadn’t gotten Asher alone to talk since. He’d had two shows, over a dozen interviews, and countless meetings and set run throughs. Asher was always there. Right there! But David never got him alone. What was worse, was that Asher seemed fine. He wasn’t angry or heartbroken. He was just… happy?
David started to think he’d read too much into this. He’d thought there was something between them—that Asher was into him. Maybe it had just been a kiss. Maybe it had just been casual. Maybe David was the one imagining the rest…
They’d been stopped at the same place the last few nights but Asher never slept in the bus. He always ended up someplace else, someplace close enough to always be doing his job but not close enough to get caught alone with them.
David rubbed his temple, running that kiss over in his head again, increasingly worried he’d overstepped a line and Asher was just trying to get away now. He called him Boss all the fucking time. Someone else might find that hot, but David sure as fuck did not.
Darlin seemed to be handling it well the first couple days, soothingly running a hand over his back and telling him it’s just timing and really busy right now. They’d talk to Asher eventually and straighten it all out.
David knew them well enough that he should have realized Darlin was a fucking powder keg about to blow. They tried to keep things calm. They tried to be diplomatic. But Darlin had always been a fighter and he had known since they were kids that he was their short fuse.
“Your job is to protect him, right?” Darlin’s voice pitched with that bite everyone who had worked with them or crossed them knew.
David gnashed teeth and shot to his feet, walking toward it. No. Nononono.
They were all tired. It had been too little sleep and a lot of work. One more show and then they’d have a few days to go to events and hopefully relax before the next location. He came out onto the stage, dozens of people running checks and Milo and Sweetheart pausing in the midst of one of their own spats to turn their attention to Darlin.
Asher was standing with the security crew, blinking doe-eyes at the manager. “Yeah…”
Darlin had their hands balled into fists. “Then where is he? What the fuck am I paying you for?”
Asher didn’t break eye contact with Darlin—didn’t look at David on the stage behind them—but he pointed, more like he knew by instinct than by any other sense. “There.”
Darlin didn’t look, but they tensed, like they could hear all the times David told them to calm down in their youth. Instead of heeding it, Darlin stepped up in Asher’s space. The rest of the security crew edged back but Asher stayed put, not challenging but not flinching, just watching Darlin like they were a mystery. “I’m starting to think I hired the wrong person for this job,” they ground out.
David felt sick. Darlin was just pressing on the only thing they had to try to get a reaction out of Asher. It was sort of classic Darlin, but it happened to be pressing on the fact that Asher worked for them. “Hey, knock it off,” he snapped at the whole room. “Darlin, leave the crew alone.”
David could have sworn Asher winced when he called him crew. But why? He’d been the one underlining it so hard.
Darlin glared another few seconds and the room waited. And then Darlin exhaled, rolled their eyes, and turned away from Asher, walking back across the room and up onto the stage. David waited, but Asher never looked at him. David hadn’t been able to catch Asher’s gaze since that night, and yet he was sure he felt the other man’s eyes on him all the time.
Darlin brushed past David on their way to the back and David followed a few steps behind, grinding his teeth on his own feelings like he could just chew them up and make them easier to swallow.
“I know,” Darlin hissed.
David shook his head. “You can’t talk to him like that…”
“I said I know.”
“It’s not his fucking job to…” He snarled rather than say it. Not Asher’s job to be more than a guard. Not his job to have emotional conversations with them. Not his job to be… more.
“I wasn’t saying it was! I was just… He… What the fuck is his problem?” The words came stumbling out of them.
Some of David’s anger eased at the cracking of their voice. They were frustrated and upset and maybe just as confused as he was. “It’s only been a few days. We’re all busy and we’re almost never alone. We’ll figure it out eventually.” For the first time he believed it, because he was the one having to say it.
Darlin groaned and scrubbed a hand over their face. “Really though… what kind of bodyguard avoids the person they’re hired to guard?”
David snorted. “I told you I didn’t need one to start with…” The words had less weight than they used to, because he didn’t like the idea of never having brought Asher into their lives.
“Fuck…” they exhaled the way they always did when they rethought what they’d said or done and regretted it. “Fuck!”
David sighed and reached out, palming the back of their head and gently pulling them closer, hugging them. “It’s okay. You’re an asshole. Everyone knows it already. It’s part of your charm.”
They swore again but this time the words were pressed into his chest, their arms curling around his waist. They hadn’t kissed again since that night. They touched more—more hugs and arms slung around one another—but there really hadn’t been much alone time and what there was, was pretty much dedicated to sleeping.
The speakers crackled and the band started running through instrument checks.
David sighed and let Darlin go. Back to work.
-
The concert went great and David was dead tired.
He couldn’t wait to get back to the bus, shower, brush his teeth, and fucking pass out. They were supposed to head out tonight and land in a new city tomorrow where they’d be checking into a hotel and going to some events. He just had to get to his bunk and everyone else would make sure he got where he was supposed to be by the time he woke up.
The problem was just getting there. He’d been signing shit for what felt like hours, the place still buzzing with activity long after the concert finished. The crew were mostly through breaking down the set and packing it away, everyone exhausted and hustling to get moving. Darlin was somewhere yelling at someone about schedule mishaps, road plans, or some other logistical detail that no one else thought about but they’d all die without.
“Shaw,” someone called, between a question and a request. David had heard a lot of people say his name in a lot of ways, this one was pretty common. Someone that had cause to talk to him but still wasn’t sure they were allowed to. He looked up. The guy was wearing a security shirt. One of the local crew. He smiled nervously at David. “This way, sir,” the guy waved him to the back hall, one of many leading toward an exit.
David rubbed at his face with a towel and walked over, his whole body sore. “Yeah?”
“Your manager told me to walk you to your bus before you get caught up in another interview or fan signing?” he sounded unsure, like this had been thrown at him and he was just trying to do what he’d been told.
David snorted and nodded.
The guy turned and led the way. He was big, but he wasn’t bigger than David. Few people he met were. He led him to an exit and held the door.
David never even heard Asher walking up behind him. He caught his arm by the elbow, the first time he’d touched him since that night, and firmly drew him back a step before he could walk outside. “What—” David started but the look on Asher’s face was so confusing. He looked… pissed.
He stepped around David smoothly, lean and agile, let go and stepped out through the door in his place.
The security guy holding the door looked like a deer in headlights, confused and still holding the door. Someone else out of sight, several someones, swore and started yelling.
Before David could push forward, Asher clocked the security guy in the face, throwing him back on his ash, and then slammed the door shut in David’s face. It locked.
David lurched forward, reaching for the door. What the fuck had just happened? He needed to get through the door. He needed to. “Fuck!” he swore when the door first didn’t budge. He had to turn the lock and push at the same time. If he had been on the other side, there would be no going back.
He shouldered his way out into the private back lot, the night washed orange in pools of lamplight. He almost tripped over the first guy—the security guard that had led him down this way. He was clutching at his face, his broken nose bleeding through his fingers and his eyes so watery that he seemed blind by the tears. A second guy was out cold on the ground a few steps away and two figures were out there, between the building and the bus. The ruckus was attracting other attention, other security and crew loading trucks around the corner coming around.
David ran toward the two—knowing that one of them had to be Asher.
The bigger one was the stranger, running from that slender cut of a man in the dark. David shivered when Asher took him down, tackling him and riding him to the pavement in a way that couldn’t not remind of a wolf pulling down an elk. David reached them in time to watch Ash pull the guys arms back and drag a ziptie tight around his wrists before jumping up and using one sneakered foot to shove the runner onto his side.
Asher huffed, pushing hair out of his face and looking up—past David. He pointed at some crew and then at the other two near the door. “Grab those two and call the fucking cops.” He was breathing hard and finally looked at David. The first time he’d looked at him since that night… “You okay, big guy?”
David stared at him. “How did you…?” How did he know something was going wrong? What had almost happened? Where the fuck had Asher even come from?
Ash huffed, using one foot to push the guy on the ground back down when he tried to get up but never breaking eye contact with David. “What? I’m always watching you. I’m… It’s my job. Why do you guys think I’m bad at this?”
David shook his head. “But you’ve been avoiding me.”
Asher flushed and looked away. He shrugged. “I was trying to give you two space.”
David shook his head, not looking away. They weren’t alone, not really, but maybe this was as close as he could get. “We don’t want space. Just… If I crossed a line with you—”
“What?” Asher barked, eyes wide. He shook his head. “No. What… Hang on…” He stooped and grabbed the guy by the back of his shoulders, turning and dragging him toward the door and the others with the growing crowd. Several people were on the phone. He dumped the guy with the others and then came back to David, face still creased with confusion and worry. “No. But you two… I meant what I said, David. I don’t want to make shit harder for you and I don’t want to ruin something like that. I like you and Darlin. I’m not going to play homewrecker.”
David exhaled like he’d been holding his breath for days. Maybe he had been. “You’re such an idiot…”
Asher blinked and then huffed a thin laugh and took a step back. “Yeah, okay. But this idiot just saved your—”
David caught his wrist and pulled him in, catching his jaw and tipping his face up to kiss him.
Asher seemed frozen for a second and David wondered if he’d made a mistake, but then the guard was kissing him back in the dark near the tour buses and trucks. The kiss was short and broke when blue and red flashing lights splashed across their skin.
David couldn’t tell, because of the light, but it looked like Asher was glassy eyed and blushing.

I'm sure someone has asked already but there's no harm in asking this question again, I was wondering how do you plot out your drawings? Like your proportions and stuff? Because I have never been able to get proportions done very easily, the head is always too small for the shoulders, arms aren't the right length, torso is too long/short, ect ect. Do you have any advice to help with this? Thank you :) 💜
Hey! Okay, I'll start with saying that I'm not a qualified art teacher and everything I say are just things I've noticed over the years of drawing myself and thus can only share things that worked for me personally ✌️✨
I use head to measure the height of everything and make the width whatever I feel looks good 😅 The classic art anatomy teaches us that perfect human's height is 8 heads and legs take exactly half of it. I rarely stick to that model tbh, I prefer to draw in an even more stylized way, so I usually make legs a bit longer (making it 8.5 or even 9+ heads total) and head just a biiit bigger.  Still, I started from classics and I believe it's much easier to learn it first, so I drew the 8 heads model for a better demonstration:
Tumblr media
I've developed a little checklist of the most important proportions; usually if those conditions are met, the whole figure looks convincing enough to me.
Head + torso is 4 heads;
Elbows and waist are relatively on the same line;
Open palm is the same length as the face (head minus hairline);
Arm length ends a bit higher than half of the hip;
Knees are located at the middle of legs length minus feet.
Okay, it looks really easy for a frontal view of a standing still figure, but what about more complicated poses? My suggestion is to measure the stick figure inside the body (not forgetting about the perspective distortion though). Take the "spine" and the least bent leg to check everything, then make sure both legs are the same length.
Tumblr media
Note that these measurements don't need to be exact as if made with a ruler! We aren't doing blueprints here. If you don't trust your eye, then try training it, whenever you have a free minute: just draw a long line and try to divide it into equal parts. Or draw a long line with many short lines of the same length; kinda like a dashline, but with no gaps.
Also, I think it's important to remember that measurements and proportions are cool, useful and make your life a lot easier, but often you may need to bend them for the final drawing to look good. And obviously, people come in many shapes and heights, so I suggest taking these classical measurements as a cheatsheet to draw a good standard stick figure, which you can shape into whatever you want later. The 8 heads canon isn't realistic anyway, it originated in Ancient Egypt and Greece and was used for art needs specifically (mainly sculpture iirc). It represents an idealized view of a human figure already, so no harm in changing it a bit further I think!
Art doesn't really need to be anatomically correct, it just has to look like it is.

A supermassive data leak has been discovered (the biggest ever in fact.) : what does it mean and what to do?
(This is a small amateur post by someone interested in privacy and safety online and that wants to encourage good habits. And this with this new leak, it is a good time to remind people of a few basic habits to have online. This is meant to be accessible as much as possible and the list of tips is non-exhaustive.) (+See the end for a few of the sources used)
A new data leak of 12 terabytes of information, some compiled from previous data breaches, has been publicly posted and exposed. A lot of big websites are concerned, such as : weibo, tencent, twitter, Adobe, Wattpad, MySpace, Deezer, LinkedIn, Canva, Dropbox, Telegram.... So yeah. You are very likely to be concerned.
How to know if you are concerned?
The website Cybernews propose a tool to easily search If you're concerned by the data leak and there is also the classic Have I Been Pwned. You can also check the leaked data yourself.
In any case, don't panic. If you're concerned start by changing your passwords (your email's password too. Especially this one.) and maybe look into improving your habits online.
Some tips to improve your safety online
Whether you're concerned or not by the data breach, there are some easy tips and habit you can use to improve your security.
- DO NOT USE THE SAME PASSWORD ON EVERY WEBSITE.
- DO NOT use a SIMILAR password with only slight differences and the same method to create it either !!!!
- DO use a strong password: long (like at least 10 characters), complex with several letters (lower and upper case), several numbers and others characters in a random/complex order. You can also use a sentence as a password (complexified ofc) for example.
- Enable two-factor authentification when you can.
- I advise to use a password manager if you can and want. Choose wisely but there are some great options, with free and premiums possibilities such as Dashline, Bitwarden, 1Password or the recent ProtonPass. Be careful to choose a very strong master password that you'll be able to memorize!
- Bonus: use aliases for you emails (for example via SimpleLogin)
To learn more + ressources that I personally like :
- Cybernews' article on this data leak
- Forbes' article
- NBTV : a YouTube channel, they're also on other platforms, that educates on the subjects of privacy and safety online.
- Proton: a Swiss-based society that proposes several privacy-based services such as ProtonMail, ProtonPass, Proton Drive, ProtonVPN... The free options are already quite interesting imo but you can also upgrade to a paid plan for additional storage and more options (they are often on sales and if you use them they are worth it). (There are other options if you prefer)
- SimpleLogin: allows you to create multiple aliases for the same mail address (there are other options)

[VD/ A music-less TikTok by @ralphtyndall making a bee themed postcard, as prompted by the comment: "I had the most specific dream that you made a bee themed one saying "bumbling bye to say hi"".
During the process they pull out multiple tools: a corner cutter (like a hole puncher but to make different sized rounded corners), five stencils they fill in with powder pigments and a soft bristled round brush until a picture frame of bees pollinating yellow flowers is completed, they also use a manual press and a sheet embosser (a metal sheet with a 3D desing to press on to paper and give it texture or cut areas) to emboss the picture and cut out the center, leaving a hole that exposes the inside of the postcard.
They then take out a panel hive patterned sheet embosser and they use it to cut it out in black adhesive paper, punching out the inside of each individual panel so only the thin lines remain. They cut it to an oval, emboss a rectancle out of yellow paper, round its corners with the corner cutter, and delicately stick the hive patter on it. Then they use an adhesive roller (which is like whiteout tape but instead it leaves double sided adhesive tape) on the back of the printed postcard and they stick the yellow paper to it, so from the outside of the postcard we can see the bees with the yellow flowers surrounding a beehive panel.
Then they use an automated calligraphy machine (like a printer, but it holds a pen with an arm and manually writes the letters) to write "Just bumbling by to say hi" in cursive.
Lastly, using another sheet embosser and a smaller manual press they cut a bee out of adhesive black paper, and they make a dashline path for it inside the postcard with a fine line black pen, sticking it underneath the text afterwards.
They proudly show the completed postcard, front and inside complete, and the video ends, displayin the TikTok logo and the account name /End VD]

Keeper 10.1 Close Up
(Originally written for The Fourth Wall)
It is no secret that data breaches are a growing epidemic, with the average cost of a data breach being nearly $3.8 million, according to the IBM-sponsored, Ponemon 2016 Cost of Data Breach Study. As a result, many businesses of all sizes have found themselves searching for tools to better manage the security of their data, with vendors of all types popping up in this growing market, ready to meet security needs.
Keeper, founded in 2011 in Chicago, IL, is one such company. Built on the premise that passwords are the greatest single cause of data breaches, Keeper developed software with the goal of meeting an increasing need for password management software, both for consumers and enterprises.
Keeper first started life as a consumer product. Version 1.0 of Keeper was an iPhone app which amassed nine million users. It later pivoted to an enterprise product, and has since attracted 3,000 enterprise customers, most of which are in the SMB market.
The most recent version of Keeper, Keeper 10.1, released in June 2016, was designed for individuals, small to medium sized businesses and enterprises with the goal of improving ease of use, flexibility, and security for the user.
This release included such features as enhanced administration, Duo two-factor authentication, enhanced security through HTTP Public Key Pinning, and more, with each added feature being intended to improve the security of Keeper and the data within it as much as possible.
Claimed by Keeper to be unique to its software are such features as a unified password and data vault, a robust security architecture which Keeper boasts has never been compromised, native apps on every Mobile OS, device and browser,
From a user behavior perspective, Keeper has built in features to help encourage and enforce healthy password habits. Administrators have the ability to see the overall password statistics such as password strength or uniqueness.
Breaking The Fourth Wall
After five years, Keeper has resisted the lure of investment that flows into the security industry and has managed to be entirely self-funded.
While the password management market is often heavily skewed in favor of the consumer, Keeper manages to both address the needs of the consumer while also allowing for itself to be a product well-positioned  for the startup or small to medium size business.
Keeper’s platform strategy involves embracing a variety of platforms, including Android and iOS, as well as traditional desktop offerings. It also has an unusual emphasis on creating engaging and appealing user experiences.
One of Keeper’s biggest strengths is that it can mitigate against the fundamental user errors which increase insecurity. The biggest of these is password reuse. The latest iteration of Keeper makes it easy to ensure that users create unique, strong, and distinct passwords for each online service.
The software has evolved considerably through the years, there still remains ample opportunity to further develop the product through additional features, such as enhanced reporting or analytics.
Keeper has developed a solid product, but may find itself having difficulty making a name for itself in a market crowded with other established, and well-funded products such as LastPass (owned by LogMeIn), Thycotic, and Dashline. However, there remains ample opportunity within the security market, and with some effort, the right marketing, and a continued dedication to a secure and user-friendly product, Keeper will be able to make its mark on the market.

Unpopular Opinion:
The automatic response of calling everyone who calls out China “racists” excuses the government of China’s incompetence, as well as its malicious actions in Asia. (Not pertaining to Covid-19 pandemic but China’s actions in general. The blatant debt traps, the 9 dash line that leads to attacks against other non-China boats who fish in areas that according to International law are rightful theirs, the control on certain areas by installing political parties that are loyal to China, the list could go on.)
So to say, before branding someone racist, context should be established because the use of the word “China” is quite ambiguous. If it were to mean “every single Chinese person ever” or “all of China’s citizens”, then it is indeed racist and/or xenophobic. If it were to mean China’s government and its supporters, then it may not be entirely unfounded.
When people say USA’s militant actions in the Middle East for the sake of controlling oil reserves has harmed many people and taken many lives, it does not mean all Americans are responsible for this. In this context, USA is meant to mean its government.
The same could be applied to China. China can be criticized without it being racist but context should first be established. Otherwise, if we just stop calling out China’s government for their bullshit, what will happen to those of us who suffer at this expense?
#sadjkldsjkldsa#I shared these sentiments in the wrong post and I'm so sorry#but for the people who are here to criticize China's Imperialism in Asia and not the racists fucks#pls your anger is valid but do not let it be misdirected#be mad be very mad at China#it fucked up the Philippines so bad#installed a dictator as our president#got us agreements that could literally technically let China cut off all electricity in the Philippines#got the Philippines sending masks to China when we literally were at level 4 volcanic alert and it was raining fucking ash and there was#still work but no masks and yet the Philippines was able to send them to China#idk but we are like second class citizens in our own soil#when everyone asked to close airports to areas affected by the virus including China#the Department of FUCKING HEALTH said no because we have to keep foreign relations at bay#like we can't afford the pandemic we are a 3rd world country with 17 million people below the poverty line that doesn't even count the rest#of the middle class who are barely getting by#choosing foreign relations over the lives of 100 Million Filipinos idk man#not to mention China making a move on an island in their 9 dashline THAT BY INTERNATIONAL LAW IS OWNED BY SEA countries that China has been#bullying for god knows how long DURING THE FUCKIN PANDEMIC#Y'all can be mad at that and criticize China without making it about Chinese folks in general#don't be that fuckface who asks their Chinoy workmate how it feels like to be the cause of the virus#they are third gen chinoy and their grandpa got shipped off to the Philippines with no money and no idea on how to speak Filipino all#because their family could not afford to have another kid like even its own citizens had to deal with China's bs#Criticism is important and a tool to straighten out powerful powers that abuse their strengths#but directing it on unrelated parties and victims themselves does nothing but stroke your shit of an ego#our voices have power our words have meaning#use it wisely use it properly#mei rambles#mine

Holding Out for a Hero - 7
The DASHLIN bodyguard drama continues!
I know a bunch of people said the last chapter that ended with the "can I kiss you?" moment was STRESSFUL and honestly I don't know if this one is going to be helpful or just more stressful but I love you! Remember that!
If you want to read it from the start it's on ao3.
David/Asher/Darlin. No magic. Bodyguard AU where David is the rockstar, Darlin is the manager, and Asher is the bodyguard.
tags: light angst, longing, communication needs to happen, darlin has an abusive ex, scars, blood, idiots getting together
Holding Out for a Hero - 7
David glared at Asher. He was glad he had been glaring before he said what he said because it was easy to hold and so much better than the dumbfounded reboot his brain was doing right now.
“Can I kiss you?”
Heat burned David’s face, his heart beat faster, and it strained under the sick feeling that Asher wasn't the sort of person he’d thought he was. “Are you really going to be a dick about this?”
Asher stayed right where he was, knee planted on the bench seat beside David, touching his thigh, looking down at him. “I’m not joking, David. I’m asking.”
The sick feeling was gone, replaced by something else. Panic? Yeah, this felt like panic. No one had ever kissed David because David hadn’t kissed anyone, and everyone expected him to make the move. He knew why. It wasn’t an accident that he acted the way he did. He’d never liked people he didn’t know touching him and the people he did know, the ones who got close, were never that sort of relationship.
His mind tried to think about Darlin but he pushed that away. It had never happened.
David forced a thin laugh and rolled his eyes, looking away toward the deeply tinted windows. “Why? You think it would be funny?”
“I told you it wasn’t a joke,” Asher reminded. “But you had sort of a bullshit first kiss. You should get a do-over.”
“That’s not how things work.”
“How would you know?”
David frowned up at him again, eyes narrow because again he wasn’t sure if he was being mocked.
“If you don’t want to, just say so.”
David’s frown smoothed out, gone. Asher was serious. He was patient and calm and looking down at him with something heavy in his eyes. Want? David had seen plenty of people want him before, but they’d never been anyone that knew him, not really. To be fair, there were very few people who actually knew him.
Asher was still waiting, like this stretch of time wasn’t awkward at all.
David nodded once, cutting his gaze away stubbornly when heat climbed his cheeks again. Fuck.
Asher touched the side of his neck, first with fingers tips and then slowly sliding his palm to skin. David’s breath came faster. He still couldn’t look at him. What was he supposed to do? His heart was pounding and his skin felt electric everywhere Asher’s touch moved. It wasn’t that pins and needles feeling he got when strangers grabbed at him or bumped into him. It was exciting. His hand slid up to his jaw, until he was tipping David’s head back, his thumb brushing under his bottom lip.
Asher leaned down, until his face was close, until David could feel his breath on his lips. “Okay?” Asher asked with that infinite patience.
Fuck. “Yeah.”
Asher kissed him.
The first one was so soft, just the press of lips to his, only it didn’t break away. Asher kissed his upper lip, and then his lower lip, the slightest pause between each press. Unhurried, but without hesitation. And then he kissed him full on the lips again.
David had never felt light-headed in his whole damn life, but suddenly he was really glad he was sitting. He wanted to touch but he hesitated, overthinking it to the point of inaction.
Asher’s tongue brushed the seam of his lips, fingers gentle pressure points against the back of his neck. David opened and fought back a moan when Asher tongued him slowly, teasing. David pushed his tongue into Asher’s mouth in a bold moment of want and Asher moaned, sucking.
The kiss broke but Asher didn’t let go or lean back, just giving enough space to look at each other. “Better than the stranger?” he asked.
For a split-second David didn’t know what he was talking about. He’d actually forgotten. But this was nothing like that. “Definitely.”
Asher smiled, like he’d actually been unsure what David’s answer would be.
The bus door whooshed open.
Asher let go of him and slid back a few more inches. He pulled a bag of fries from the box on the table and stepped back just as Darlin came up the stairs, smirking at David when he crammed some of those fries into his mouth.
David stared for another second. His first kiss.
The engine on the bus hummed. “I’m showering,” Darlin said, sounding angry. He wondered if one of the vendors had pissed them off or if they were running late.
Asher stepped back again, leaning against the counter to give Darlin room to walk between him and where David was sitting.
They watched each other while Darlin shed a couple layers, grabbed a towel, and then went into the shower.
The door closed and they both just watched each other, slowly smiling.
When the shower turned on, Asher came closer, putting the fries down and pretending to look at the other food options in the box. “Again?” he asked, biting at the corner of his mouth like he was trying to stop smirking.
David grabbed his hip and pulled him back into the booth, this time with Asher straddling his lap when they kissed. His hands roamed up Asher’s sides, and Asher’s moved over his shoulders, the back of his neck, and in his hair. Between those frantic, eager kisses, David smiled. “You know this isn’t going to be a secret from Darlin, right?” he got the words out between the press of their lips, one of his hands sliding up into the back of Asher’s hair to tug gently.
Asher hummed, licking his upper lip.
“If you were getting off on the idea of sneaking around…”
Asher sat down in David’s lap and they both sucked in a breath. “Is it really that hard for you to believe I’m just into you?” Asher asked, voice huskier than David had imagined it could be. “I don’t want to come between you two or mess anything up. If this is just a few kisses between friends, that’s okay.”
David tried to puzzle out the man in his lap. “I think we’re past a few…”
Asher smiled and slid off his lap, deeper into the booth, leaving one leg across his thighs. “How long have you been in love with Darlin?”
David groaned, scrubbing a hand over his face. Why did Asher see everything?
Asher bit his lip, nodding. “Okay. I’ll help.”
David raised an eyebrow and looked at the man next to him, his hand still on Asher’s thigh across his lap. “Help with what?”
“I’ll help you two get together.” Asher smiled but it didn’t quite reach his eyes, not really. Like he was being rejected but taking it incredibly well.
Holy shit, that was exactly what Asher thought was happening. Had he offered something casual because he thought David would rather and then he’d offered nothing more than this interaction for the same reason. And now? Now he was offering to help get him and Darlin together. “Bodyguard and match maker?”
“And first kiss,” Asher reminded with a wink, reaching into the box of food and pulling out a sandwich at random.
The shower stopped.
Asher shifted to sit upright and move his leg off of David, but David didn’t let go of his thigh, squeezing gently to keep him where he was. That gaze returned to his with a question.
David sighed. He’d never talked to anyone about any of these things before… “I’ve liked Darlin forever,” he tried to explain.
“It’s kind of obvious, big guy.” Asher smirked. “And I don’t blame you. You guys are like one good nudge away from shacking up. Don’t worry. I’ve got—”
“I like you too.”
Asher’s words stopped short. For long seconds the bus hummed along the highway and they didn’t move or say anything.
The bathroom door opened, letting out a little plume of steam. Darlin sighed, shaking out wet hair and tossing some laundry to the back of the bus. They pulled on clean, soft clothes and padded down the length of the bus toward them. They seemed less stressed than they had been when they got on.
They glanced at the table and then grabbed more water bottles, putting them down before sitting across from David. Their knees bumped under the table and Darlin looked at him. They seemed like they were about to say something, probably about the show or the tour plans, when they stopped. “You, okay?”
David felt pretty damn great, actually. No idea how this was going to play out, but hopeful. “Yeah.” He uncapped one of the waters, taking a drink before putting it down closer to Darlin than himself. They took it up automatically.
Darlin glanced at Asher and then away, digging chicken tenders out of the box of food. “Sorry about earlier,” they grumbled. “You did what you could.”
David frowned, wondering what that was about.
Asher shrugged, unwrapping his sandwich. “It’s okay. I kissed David.”
Darlin coughed on fried chicken, eyes watering and hand thumping their chest. They chewed, swallowed, and stared at Asher. “What?”
Asher stared back. “You said I could.”
“The fuck I did!”
“Excuse me?” David snapped but neither of them seemed to notice.
“I said you could ask him out, not maul him!”
“Woah.” David would have probably shot up from his seat if he didn’t still have Asher’s leg across his lap.
Darlin shot up instead. “Get off of him!”
Asher winced and instead of arguing, he moved his leg off of David’s lap. “I didn’t maul him, Darlin. I’m just telling you—”
“You gave him permission to ask me out?” David seethed.
For the first time Darlin’s attention moved from Asher to David. The anger seeped away and they looked…caught? “Davey…”
“No. What the fuck? Since when do you decide that?”
Darlin chewed their lip.
“It wasn’t like that,” Asher said softly, suddenly coming to Darlin’s defense. “I asked if there was anything in my contract about not asking you out. It wasn’t like they personally gave me permission or anything.”
David cringed at mention of the contract and the reminder that Ash worked for him. Fuck. That was complicated. They’d have to talk about that if things went on like this… Whatever this was…
“I’m sorry,” Darlin rushed out the words, an edge of panic or maybe shame making them heavy. David didn’t like it.
-
Darlin pushed their chin down and tried to get their head straight. Fuck, this had all come out wrong.
The concert had gone so well and then that fan had basically attacked Davey and…and they’d completely snapped at Asher over it. They knew it wasn’t fair. What was he supposed to do other than exactly what he’d done? But it was David. Their David. They knew how much he didn’t like physical contact from strangers let alone anything like that but it was so much more than that, wasn’t it? They had known David had never been kissed, because if he had been they would have heard about it.
And really, what right did they have to be mad? Worried about how he felt, sure, yes, but mad?
Now David was pissed and he had every right to be. They’d fucked this up so bad. They’d known David had a crush on them for years. They couldn’t understand why, but they had known. They’d thought it was because he didn’t feel like he had other options, because they were the person closest to him, that he would get over it when he realized he could do so much better. And then it had become easy to leave it like that, to be so close and still not quite more than friends.
And then Quinn had happened. Darlin had never deserved someone like David, but maybe they’d deserved Quinn.
They tasted blood and gagged, suddenly hearing the crunch of their own bones under his knuckles.
“Oh shit,” they distantly heard Asher. He was jumping over the table just as David was rising, pushing forward toward them.
Darlin jerked back from that figure, coughing and bending an arm over their face, like they were just coughing into their elbow and not protecting their head from an attack.
-
David had been talking but he wasn’t sure they were hearing him. And then there was bright red on their lip, rolling down their chin, and they choked.
He was out of his seat and reaching for them, Asher going over the table to the side.
Darlin flinched back, bumping into the counter along the opposite side of the bus, their arm up. David froze, a wave of sick horror dragging through him and threatening to bring him right down to his knees.
Asher was there. He was at the sink next to them, grabbing a washcloth and wetting it. “Hey, you’re okay,” he said, loud and clear, like Darlin wasn’t right next to him. “Darlin?”
They dragged a few shaky breaths, coughing blood into their arm like they weren’t sure where it was coming from.
Asher moved slowly when he reached for them, so they’d see him coming, his hand wrapping firmly around their forearm and guiding it down. “You tore that lip. That’s all.” He pushed the wet cloth to their chin and lip.
Darlin hissed at the little pain it caused but blinked like they’d come back to themself.
“You’re okay,” Asher repeated. “It was a long day and you were stressed. I’m sorry I added to that.”
Darlin swallowed, grimacing at the taste. “No. I’m sorry. You didn’t…  I’m sorry,” they lisped, talking into the cloth. Their gaze flicked to David and the naked distress there unlocked his limbs, allowing him to step closer to them. “I’m sorry,” Darlin said again.
“Here,” Asher handed him the washcloth and went back to the sink to grab another.
David cleaned up Darlin’s chin and then pressed it gently to the cut in their bottom lip again.
Asher was quick about wiping the blood splatter off their arm, like he was trying to get it done before they noticed it themself. And then the three of them were standing there, close, and no one seeming to know how to start again.
Asher was the first to move, taking a step back. “It’s my turn to shower… Don’t steal my sandwich,” he added to lighten things up before excusing himself.
David checked their lip, the blood slower now but still beading up. He pressed the cloth again.
When Asher was in the bathroom, David said softly, “You flinched.”
Darlin looked up at him. “I’m sor—”
“Don’t.” He shook his head. “Don’t apologize for that. I can’t… You know I wouldn’t hurt you, right?”
Darlin frowned, touching the back of his hand holding the washcloth to their lip. “Davey. I know.”
He sighed, relieved but still upset. It was tempting to just drop it, to drop everything just like they always did. But he didn’t want to do that anymore. He needed them to actually talk about stuff. “Darlin… You don’t get to decide who I kiss. You know that, right? I know you look out for me and I know you have to handle just about everything else in our life but that’s… That’s mine.”
Darlin nodded, something pained in their expression.
“What’s going on with you?” he whispered, afraid of the answer. “You’ve been…”
“So, you and Asher?”
“Don’t change the subject.”
“I’m not.”
“I like Asher,” David said, taking the cloth away to check that split in their lip again. It was red but it had stopped bleeding. Again, he could leave it at that, but there was something in the way they nodded, shoulders sagging. Why were they so bad at this? What would Asher do? “Like I like you.”
Darlin looked up at him. It wasn’t a surprise to them. He hadn’t really expected it to be. They must have always known. He’d assumed the reason they’d done nothing was because they weren’t interested. But he hadn’t done anything either.
“Why were you upset about the kiss?”
Darlin’s gaze flicked to his mouth and then back to his eyes.
He waited.
They dragged a shaky breath and looked away. “I care about you… and I like you. I shouldn’t have gotten so upset, but when that fan jumped on you… I just knew how uncomfortable you’d be and I was angry about what had happened… And then I definitely yelled at Ash about it… And then…” They snuck another look at him. “Was it a good kiss?”
David felt heat rise to his face. They were still standing so close that he wondered if they’d feel it. “Yeah. It was.”
Darlin actually relaxed a little, a small smile pulling at the corner of their mouth. “Good.”
Their hand was still on his, even though he wasn’t holding the washcloth to their lip anymore.
Darlin took another breath and let it out like a sigh, still smirking but tired and wistful. “I should have kissed you first.”
David’s heart swelled, his gaze dropping to the cut on their lip. “Probably would have busted that lip if you tried…” he said with a little smile.
Darlin smiled back, like they couldn’t help it. “Would have been worth it.” They looked down. “So, you and Ash…”
David touched the side of their neck and leaned in. It was the softest kiss possible, softer even than the first time Ash had kissed him. The last thing he wanted was to make that lip of theirs hurt any more than it already must, but he also couldn’t circle this anymore.

my social media browsing habits have been completely inscrutable since i started working fulltime which means,
i inevitably miss a lot of good posts (i hope you are all making good posts. and not bad ones. you wouldnt dare make bad posts, would you)
i dont post very often. i mean i didnt post very often anyway but this has exacerbated the issue. i hope i spelled that word right, and also that it means what i think it means, im not going to google it to check for reasons i am about to explain
anyway ive decided to solve both these problems and also get my daily dose of gaming in by browsing my timelines and dashboards and dashlines and timeboards while im fishing in ffxiv. i can hit most of my important fishing buttons with only one hand on the controller which leaves the other one free for Posting. i wrote most of this post with one hand. it is wildly inefficient but if you think im about to let these fish get away for such an unimportant reason then youve got another thing coming
Tumblr media
this is peak browsing. please imagine them holding their tomestone in one hand and the fishing rod in the other

Don't overwork yourself like this. You should be able to sleep and rest. If your deadline is really close I get you though, and understand if you sacrifice your sleep :'( But if you can, try to sleep at least some hours and go back to what you're doing. I can say matter of factly that it'll bring some understanding into your brain. Also, we all are always whining. Life is about whine lol. Whining make things easier. I don't think people are tired of you. At least, I can say I'm not. Love ya <3
I really want to rest but I can't sleep for some reason :( the deadlines are close and my exams are coming up so I have a lot on my plate. Actually I have time to do all that but my brain is not listening, it's full on panic mode. Well I come here on my breaks and whine then go so that's why I feel like that's all I do 🤣 I can't keep up with the dashline cause it consumes a lot of time so all I see is my shitposts and some cute photos here and there. Thank you for caring about my bitch ass, for real. I appreciate you so damn much, lub u 💕💕
