what is your wol's relationship with their family? are they estranged? still very close? tense?
Saeed:
Sadly Saeed never got to know his parents, but was raised like the other waifs of Rabanastre by the local population before the Imperial occupation and them setting up Imperial orphanages (granted he never actually stayed in one for long and always ran away--)
But! He does have adopted family! Farah and Tahsin were kids he grew up with so they literally consider one another family despite having no blood relation, formed their Dalmascan Resistance spy group together and are still in frequent contact!
Saeed also adopted twins when returning to Dalmasca around post-SHB era when the revolution started up again, finding them wandering the streets of Valnain fending for themselves. He took a fondness for them, took them in and the rest is history!
Mica:
Oh boy. Mica's actually Gyr Abanian but taken in by the M Tribe since he was disowned/ran away from his parents who wre VERY pro-Empire and were planning on shoving their son into conscripted service and he was having NONE of that. Mica really, really does not like his parents, and thankfully after getting away has not ran into them since them. He really considers the M Tribe his family now, since they were so welcoming to a complete stranger in their midst and he fit in wonderfully to their little unit!
Bjarni:
Bjarni has a wonderfully healthy relationship with his parents! They adore their only child and he adores them back, and really couldn't ask for anything better. They've both been there for him no matter what, encouraging his interests and helped bolster him into doing things he'd otherwise be too fearful to do. Both of them help him with his academics too, his dad being a botanical professor at the Studium and his mother an established author of several academic studies into the aetherical, so he's happy to have such good support!
Soleil:
I can't help but laugh at this L M A O. Soleil doesn't know anything about his mother, other than she either absconded from his father or died. A mystery. His dad though? UHHH. Always hated them and then literally was the cause of the old man's death-- Suffice it to say, he does not have the best relationship with his close family, though he does wonder now and then about his mother but has no real emotional attatchment since he remembers nothing of her.

Some changes to Rabanastre dialogue after you clear The Great Crystal... oogh. "You're the spitting image of Reks when he decided to join the Dalmascan army"- something about that, when Vaan's spent the last two years bitter about the military for his brother's death, and now he's risking his own life for the sake of Rabanastre's freedom, like Reks... though Vaan did not set out to be part of a revolution against the Empire, he just refused to back down when a hot-headed palace heist went completely sideways.
IDK how to articulate my thoughts on Vaan and his grief and relationship to Rabanastre lol but I'm having a lot of thoughts, unexpectedly.
Trying to collect screenshots of all the Rabanastre NPCs who mention Reks... I'm sure there were more than this, but the NPCs' lines all change as the plot advances, so I missed a lot probably.
There's something about how inconsequential NPC dialogue reveals how much people in Vaan's community do care about him, as annoyed as he makes so many people... That annoyance at his antics stemming from concern, because if the stubborn and overly-rash little brother gets himself imprisoned or worse because he picks the worst targets to steal from, because he lets his emotions (his grief) cloud his head, what did Reks die for in the end?
It really does help give a sense of Vaan actually existing in the city, actually being a part of it, actually being someone who lived and grew up there, not just an avatar running around because I need to stock up on gambits and turn in quests.
Also the fact Vaan has so many people who remember his brother on a personal level, who he can reminisce over him with, who he could theoretically grieve with. And then there is Ashe, who has absolutely no one who knew Rasler as an actual human being, and not just a distant figurehead, an emblem, a symbol, a near-divinity. Well, maybe no one except Basch? But then Basch was still very far from being Rasler's equal, even if he was closer to the man as an actual man than a king, and Ashe refuses to accept any form of sympathy or solidarity with him anyway.)
I wish we got even half as many tidbits about Penelo's own past and relationship to the city, but :UUUUU

PROMPT #13: [EXTRA CREDIT]
My dear Ahtynwyb,
This is my first attempt at sending mail by gaelicat. I hope my letter finds you well, in the event it finds you at all.
The Dalmascan revolution appears to be proceeding well, in that I have not been called upon for more than a week. One advantage of sending this letter by gaelicat is that it will either be delivered securely to your side or lost forever in the void, and thus do I feel no shame about sharing confidential intelligence. Your riotous friend is performing admirable work.
In case you were wondering, the coast is as gray as ever. This is, however, merely a supposition: you see, I am still in residence at the Spookeasy. The Shroud is also gray, but not as gray as the coast. The Shroud is also only gray in the early mornings, or when Aoife Mahsa forgets to make coffee with coffee beans and I discover around noon that I am undercaffeinated. I regret to inform you that you were right about coffee. I once drank most of a pot (when Aoife Mahsa remembered the coffee beans) and understood my soul to be slipping into the void.
I have thought of a third scenario by which this letter might be delivered by gaelicat: torn to shreds as penance for an empty food dish.
Being in Eorzea has taught me many things. One useful piece of Eorzean information is the knowledge of All Saints' Wake, which I am given to understand is "canceled" this year. I imagine it is "canceled" because word has come of my arrival to the Black Shroud, and the whole of Gridania knew that I would summon horrors far too terrible to name to wreak havoc upon their revelry. (This is a joke.) I put "canceled" in quotes because Aoife Mahsa tells me that it is impossible to cancel All Saints' Wake. She spoke these words in a rather ominous tone, one which indicates the meticulous laying of plans.
I hope you are faring well.
All my best, Hrjt
Post-script: It strikes me only now that I could simply have asked your "beautiful branch" to send this letter to you the next time I am asleep. They pester me often, insisting that it is your doing; however, it strikes me as unlike you to grant me incessantly looping dreams of a Viera joik beginning with the words "la hee."

RP Hooks
Your character is...
... Dalmascan: Katla misses her homeland dearly, and would love to connect with other Dalmascan immigrants. Bonus points if you’re from Rabanastre.
... Garlean: Look. Look. It’s gonna be awkward, and probably bad, but we all love suffering here.
... A Performer: Of all her professions, dancing is the one Katla enjoys the most, and is the most serious about. She’s always looking for dance partners, or just people to talk shop with.
... A Freedom Fighter: There are a lot of reasons Katla came to Eorzea, but one of them is the fact that you guys seem to have rebellions and revolutions down to a science. If she can find some contacts who might one day help Dalmasca win back its freedom... Well, it’d be nice.
Looking for
Casual RP: Slice of life is always fun!
Plots: I love them. I. LOVE THEM. GIVE.
Darker RP: I love horror and angst and pain. Please make Katla cry.
Free Company?: I’m looking for an active RP FC, ideally one with plot. I’d rather get to know everyone involved a little before joining, but it’s on the table.
Performance Venues: I love making dance macros. Please give me an excuse to use them.
In-game RP: While I’m fine with doing short-term stuff on Discord, I have a hard time focusing on that for long periods. In-game rp is ideal.
Personal:
I’m CST, but I’m also a night owl. Schedule is currently very flexible. Feel free to DM me if you want my discord info!

Smoking Habit: Somewhere along the line, Ashla picked up smoking cigarettes, socially. She never got addicted, but sometimes will smoke while having a chat, or whenever she’s anxious. Drugs: Not something she does. Alcohol: Social drinking, maybe paired with a cigarette from time to time.
Ashla arrived recently in Eorzea and has actively been seeking work, as well as allies for some sort of “revolution”.
Often considered odd for how formal and polite she is - she doesn’t use contractions when speaking, she tends to use honorifics heavily and has a very faint, refined accent.
OOC Hook: Ashla is from Dalmasca, and has been given aid throughout her life by the Dalmascan Resistance, many of whom she has no idea who they are or if they’re using their real names. Anyone can step into the role of a Dalmascan Resistance member whose aided her, or one of their allies, with some pre-RP conversation.

Livvy Ahtynwyb: So where are you all thinking? Dalmasca, or Bozja?
Hinako Daigo beams at Crimson Bull. Hinako Daigo: Likewise, Bull. I got word of movement and made my way back here accordingly. Crimson Bull: I just wonder what could be in Bozja that Garlemald would put their grubby mitts on... Crimson Bull seems lost in thought. Livvy Ahtynwyb: It's definitely weird. Like, why now? Crimson Bull: Either they're laying the worst trap in history, or… there's actually somethin' there. Lif Silverlode: Even if something could have survived what happened there, it beggars belief that Garlemald would have waited so long to recover it. Suraja Solveig: I mean, could be both, no? Livvy Ahtynwyb: Yeah, could definitely be both. ...I'm just hoping this doesn't lead to worse things for Dalmasca. Crimson Bull: As long as those rocks are gone, I don't think it can be any worse than that. Crimson Bull chuckles nervously. Hinako Daigo: Is it true that the IVth Legion has been building their presence there? Suraja Solveig refrains from making another joke about Bull becoming a rock. Livvy Ahtynwyb: Yeah, the IVth have kept Dalmasca under lock and key. Hinako Daigo: Sorry, in Bozja I mean. Livvy Ahtynwyb: That, I don't know. I don't think anyone knows much at all about Bozja unless they've been living there. Crimson Bull: Only thing I've been told of Bozja is there's a crater where Dalamud said 'hello'... Suraja Solveig: I read about that..! The meteor. In th'library, I mean. We're goin' there? Livvy Ahtynwyb: Two possibilities, the way I see it. Either there's something left among all the rubble, or there's something that's got van Gabranth quaking in his boots. Livvy Ahtynwyb: Like... revolution. Maybe. Hinako Daigo folds her arms. Hinako Daigo: Perhaps a little bit of both. Crimson Bull: Suppose with liberations happening, it'd be in their best interest to quash anythin' before it got too big... Suraja Solveig: Don't mean t'hold back th'conversation but... how large a force are we talkin'? Livvy Ahtynwyb: I don't think anyone outside the Empire really knows. Crimson Bull: That's a good point...are they fully mobilizin'? Or is it a smaller force? Lif Silverlode: I have a hard time believing that it could be something as simple as a revolution. Based on my limited understanding of Othard's current state, Dalmasca is bigger and has a greater recent history of uprising. It makes no sense for them to pull out just to quell a revolt in such a small area. Livvy Ahtynwyb: Yeah... Yeah, that's true. Hinako Daigo: The IVth Legion predominant in the area makes use of more arcane tactics few legions typically trend. The issue of the 'holy stones' from the last mission were a sample of that. I would consider that they have discovered something new of interest. Crimson Bull laughs nervously at the thought of more magic stones... Livvy Ahtynwyb looks a little surprised. Lif Silverlode: Also, Bozja is closer to Garlemald itself. Why didn't one of the other legions from the homeland come in? Something is off. I have to agree with Hinako's assessment. Livvy Ahtynwyb: You, uh... have a lot of experience with the IVth? Lif Silverlode: No. I've never been to Dalmasca. I'm just thinking from a tactical point of view. Livvy Ahtynwyb: Mmm, yeah. Crimson Bull: All I know about the IVth is I owe them for these beauty marks on my arms. Livvy Ahtynwyb nods, a serious expression on her face. Hinako Daigo seems lost in thought. Livvy Ahtynwyb: Well, I'll help you out from a distance. I've got some shit to settle closer to Valnain. Not quite within range of Rabanastre, but maybe close enough that I can help if push comes to shove. Crimson Bull: Yeah, we'll have to see how badly they want whatever it is in Bozja... Crimson Bull seems lost in thought. Livvy Ahtynwyb: So Suraja, have you done much Garlean-fighting? Livvy Ahtynwyb is wondering if Suraja Solveig is a Dalmascan Viera. Suraja Solveig: No, but I've heard nothin' but terrible things so I'm lookin' forward to it. Suraja Solveig shrugs. Livvy Ahtynwyb: Good! That is, if you were hearing good things, we'd have some problems. Livvy Ahtynwyb grins. Livvy Ahtynwyb: Luckily for you, there's no better place to be for fighting Garleans than the Riskbreakers. Crimson Bull: Absolutely. Hinako Daigo: It is nice to have you for the cause, regardless of where you're from. Golmore or otherwise. Suraja Solveig: Just hopin' I can bring somethin' to th'team! Hinako Daigo smiles weakly at Suraja Solveig. Suraja Solveig: Ah. Okay... ever heard of Th'First? I hear that's what y'call it here.. Livvy Ahtynwyb: Yeah! I've been away with the fae for a bit myself. Suraja Solveig: T'keep it short? From there. Pretty sure m'real bodies still there because... well, I've been havin' dreams 'bout that.. Suraja Solveig takes a minute to absorb her owns words. Definitely felt like she was talking crazy sometimes. Hinako Daigo: I wasn't going to press, but I knew something about your qi was different the moment I arrived. Suraja Solveig: Qi... Is that like th'Mist? Suraja Solveig: What was it? Aether, right? Suraja Solveig shrugs at Crimson Bull. Hinako Daigo: The Mist... Yes! Just so. Or aether, however you see fit to deem it. Suraja Solveig: Don't mean t'derail the conversation.. Sorry. Crimson Bull: Best y'explain than people get suspicious, y'know? Suraja Solveig: Though, Hina, was it? Maybe y'can help me figure some things out sometime... Suraja Solveig nods to Crimson Bull. Crimson Bull places a hand to his chin. Crimson Bull: So what's the plan? Head back out, sniff the situation? Hinako Daigo nods. Hinako Daigo: Certainly. We can discuss later as to not draw away from the matter at hand. The more we can ascertain, the better. The less need to jump in blind like before, the better. Livvy Ahtynwyb nods. Livvy Ahtynwyb: I guess with that said... where do you all think you want to go? Feels like Rabanastre and Bozja both have something to offer. And have their own risks. Crimson Bull: If the IVth Legion is goin' to Bozja, then that's where I wanna be. Suraja Solveig: Since... I don't know much about this, what d'ya think I should do? Livvy Ahtynwyb: Well... if you want to learn more about the Empire, and how to fight them... you can't go wrong with learning from Ashe. Crimson Bull nods in agreement. Crimson Bull: Boss is a great leader, second-to-none. If y'wanted to prove anythin' prove it to her. Suraja Solveig: I'm open t'anythin' really. Yer all pretty skilled. Feel like I can't go wrong. Suraja Solveig nods to Crimson Bull. Crimson Bull: Then that choice is all yours. Suraja Solveig: Guess I'll have t'talk t'Ashe then! Livvy Ahtynwyb: What about you, Lif? First Riskbreaker mission, what are you feeling? Lif Silverlode gazes upon you in deep reflection. Lif Silverlode: I am deeply curious about what is going on in Bozja, but I am unsure of how suited I am for that type of reconnaissance mission. I think Dalmasca might be better suited to my skillset. Livvy Ahtynwyb: Yeah, that sounds about right. Livvy Ahtynwyb: Hey. At least we won't be stuck twenty thousand fulms in the air with a bunch of theater people. Suraja Solveig fails to understand you. Crimson Bull: They were nice enough people! If anythin' we were the pain in the ass. Crimson Bull bursts out laughing. Suraja Solveig: Theater people? Hinako Daigo scoffs at Crimson Bull. Livvy Ahtynwyb: Garlean theater people. Lif Silverlode: That sounds like an interesting story. Suraja Solveig squints. Lif Silverlode: Wait. The Prima Vista? Livvy Ahtynwyb: Yeah! Lif Silverlode: I had no idea they were still in operation... Crimson Bull: I do owe them a proper apology for makin' them accessories to murder...or somethin' like that... Bull rubs his neck sheepishly. Suraja Solveig: Eh..? Suraja Solveig makes a straight face at Crimson Bull. Crimson Bull: Remember how I told you about the stone? Yeah. Suraja Solveig: Yeah, when you turned into a rock? Suraja Solveig stifles a chuckle as best she can. Crimson Bull rolls his eyes. Crimson Bull: Yes, when I turned into a rock. Suraja Solveig bursts out laughing. Livvy Ahtynwyb: I mean, you are already about as solid as a rock. Let's be real here. Hinako Daigo: I'm sorry, turned *into* a rock? Crimson Bull: That's what I said! Suraja Solveig: Sorry, sorry... Lif Silverlode suddenly tries to remember if the Prima Vista and her crew are well known among Eorzeans. Crimson Bull: I guess bein' possessed by a stone means you become it... Crimson Bull shrugs. Suraja Solveig: But I get what yer sayin'. The thing in th'stone made y'really strong and aggressive, yeah? Hinako Daigo: Ah! Hinako let out a soft chuckle. I see... Crimson Bull: That's...one way to put it, yeah. he sighs, Didn't feel great, I can tell ya that... Crimson Bull: Certainly didn't help my relationship with Fawn, that's for sure... Hinako Daigo: Hn... Suraja Solveig consoles Crimson Bull. Suraja Solveig: Remember! Yer gettin' married once this is all over! Hinako Daigo is taken aback by Crimson Bull. Livvy Ahtynwyb is shocked! Crimson Bull reaches out. Crimson Bull: Shhhh! I wasn't gonna tell EVERYONE quite yet! Shoot... Livvy Ahtynwyb: YOU'RE GETTING MARRIED?! Suraja Solveig: Y-You didn't tell me it was...! Livvy Ahtynwyb screams. Livvy Ahtynwyb: OH MY GODS!!! Crimson Bull rubs the back of his neck. Crimson Bull: S...surprise? Hinako Daigo: Oh...! Well, congratulations...! Crimson Bull: Once all of this is settled... everyone's invited. Suraja Solveig: Why didn't ya tell me? Now I feel all bad! Suraja Solveig is frustrated. Crimson Bull: I didn't have a chance to! Shoot... Livvy Ahtynwyb: It's okay! I'm fucking off to Valnain soon. Who am I gonna tell? Livvy Ahtynwyb will absolutely tell Hrjt Brotin. Suraja Solveig: Mm, well, I'm still sorry! But! We're all happy for ya, and I think everyone here loves ya very much, so.. Crimson Bull: I'm sure you'll find someone... Crimson Bull rolls his eyes. Crimson Bull: Just...don't...don't tell the Boss, yeah? I can do it myself. Suraja Solveig: Now that I know it's a secret I'm not sayin' a word. Crimson Bull: I wasn't meanin' it to be a secret but... there's probably a better time to tell everyone. Crimson Bull shrugs. Livvy Ahtynwyb: Yeah. Yeah, I feel you. Livvy Ahtynwyb gets up off her stool, still grinning a bit. Livvy Ahtynwyb: Right! I'll leave you all to it. If I don't see you all before you ship out, then best of luck. Definitely don't break a leg. Lif Silverlode: Oh! Before we part- Crimson Bull: Likewise! he gives Livvy Ahtynwyb a playful shove. Suraja Solveig: I'll make sure t'talk to Ashelia and work out what we're doin' with me. Crimson Bull nods to Suraja Solveig. Crimson Bull: Good idea. Lif Silverlode: I'm not sure who is leading things over here, but I might have an idea for getting us over to Othard without Garlemald catching on. Livvy Ahtynwyb: Oooh! I'd say, uh... Suraja Solveig: Nice meetin' you two. I'll be sure t'talk with ya in the future, Hinako. Livvy Ahtynwyb: Maybe talk to Rosenheim? Sounds like he's the one dialed in to all the plans. Suraja Solveig bids farewell. Livvy Ahtynwyb: See ya, Suraja! Crimson Bull bids farewell to Suraja Solveig. Lif Silverlode's face drops. Lif Silverlode: Ah. Right. I'll make sure he knows. Hinako Daigo performs an Eastern bow before Suraja Solveig. Livvy Ahtynwyb: Alright! Catch you all later! Crimson Bull: Don't have too much fun! Livvy Ahtynwyb: Hey, you neither! Livvy Ahtynwyb puts on a taunting grin.

Ashelia Riot returns from the city outside. Ashelia Riot: I'm glad you aren't sleeping. Edge Marbrand is taking inventory when she arrives; he looks up at her and smiles when he hears her. Edge Marbrand takes her hand, twining his fingers with hers. Edge Marbrand: Of course not. Not while I'm waiting for you to come home. Ashelia Riot grasps his hand tighter, her smile widening. Ashelia Riot: I have nothing especially significant to report. I did manage to make it down into the Garamsythe Waterway again; it's still free of Garleans. Edge Marbrand kisses her, soft and chaste in a proper greeting, before nodding at her report. Edge Marbrand: Can't imagine they'd spend too long chasing sewer rats. They wouldn't want to get dirty, now would they? Ashelia Riot: Ha! I suppose you're right. No word from Alma? Edge Marbrand shakes his head. Edge Marbrand: Nothing, yet. Should we begin to worry? Ashelia Riot 's face falls for the first time; she seems lost in thought. Ashelia Riot: I don't know. Ashelia Riot leans in and wraps an arm around him. Edge Marbrand's brow creases. Edge Marbrand: Come on, let's relax instead of worrying.
Ashelia Riot stretches out on the couch, not minding about putting her feet up. Ashelia Riot: How are you holding up? Edge Marbrand: I miss the Riskbreakers, in truth. But otherwise... I'm glad to be here. Dalmasca is unlike anything I've ever seen before. Edge Marbrand: And... this nation needs our help. More so than Ala Mhigo and Doma right now. And that thought keeps me going. Ashelia Riot nods in response, her eyes closing; she mulls over the memories of their time in Rabanastre over past few weeks, especially those of the Dalmascan Resistance. Ashelia Riot: And I think our help is changing things. Even in small ways. Edge Marbrand: When do you think it'll be time to... bring in the reinforcements? Edge Marbrand grins at Ashelia Riot, who grins back. Ashelia Riot: That is... a very good question. Though I was hoping we wouldn't have to unless something... exceptional happened. Ashelia Riot: I know I said I wouldn't keep beating myself up for this, but I wouldn't want a repeat of the last time I dragged the company out to Dalmasca. Edge Marbrand shakes his head. Edge Marbrand: No matter what happened, you prevented a far worse outcome. Ashelia Riot takes a deep breath and nods. Ashelia Riot: You're right, of course. Ashelia Riot removes from her voluminous pants a small notebook; she flips through to the most recent page, where she's written, in her nearly illegible scrawl, a series of memories: pieces of ancient Dalmascan history she can still glean from her memories of the High Seraph's possession. Ashelia Riot: ...I did get some writing done today. Edge Marbrand sneaks a glance to one of the shelves, upon which sits the writings of an author less popularly known as Priscilla Scaevola. Edge Marbrand: Have you, now? That's good! Ashelia Riot: There was... Ashelia Riot has to check her notes. Ashelia Riot: There was a woman. I couldn't make out her face, but she was a dancer. Edge Marbrand: You saw her? Back then? Ashelia Riot: Yes. Back from... thousands of years ago. And it might have been my imagination, but something about her presence seemed familiar. She danced underneath the city. She danced and danced and danced like the city itself depended on it. Edge Marbrand is lost in thought. Edge Marbrand: What did she look like? Ashelia Riot: Long, dark hair. Lean limbs clad in golden robes. And... and a tattoo all down her back. Ashelia Riot looks momentarily surprised; she hadn't remembered that last detail until she had spoken it out loud. She adds that note to the page. Edge Marbrand scratches his chin thoughtfully. Edge Marbrand: Hm... Sounds like… Sounds like you saw her nude. Golden robes, my ass. Sounds like a good vision! Edge Marbrand laughs. Ashelia Riot: I wish I had seen her nude! Ashelia Riot grins tauntingly at Edge Marbrand. Edge Marbrand: Well, at any rate... I wonder if she previously held the stone. Ages ago. Ashelia Riot's eyes go wide. Ashelia Riot: Now there's an idea... Edge Marbrand: Which means you deprived some lucky bastard of seeing you dancing around naked one day, ages from now. Ah, well. Ashelia Riot gives Edge Marbrand a teasing shove. Ashelia Riot: I don't think that's how it works! Edge Marbrand is only cracking jokes to make her feel better about the whole thing, and knows she would probably see right through his attempt; he chuckles and shrugs in response. Edge Marbrand: Who knows? Maybe she was important to the last person who possessed the Virgo stone. Hard to say either way. Ashelia Riot doesn't remove her hand from his shoulder. Ashelia Riot: True, true. But it feels good to know that I'm a step closer to sorting out these visions. Edge Marbrand's brow furrows with concern. Edge Marbrand: And you're still having them? Often? Ashelia Riot: Mercifully, no. Only the ones I still remember from Ultima. Even my dreams from my father have been quiet. Mundane. Edge Marbrand: Well, we could all use some respite from all the excitement for once. Ashelia Riot: Gods. Couldn't we ever. Ashelia Riot: What about you? How are the Cluster faring? I feel it's been a while since I've asked. Edge Marbrand leans back, letting out a relaxed sigh. Edge Marbrand: There isn't much happening with them, either. Hard to sense everybody, we're all so far from each other. But I suspect I'd know if something bad happened to any of them. Yue is closest. She's helping out the Domans in my stead. But the others? I don't even know anymore. Ashelia Riot: I'm glad Yue's volunteered. Ashelia Riot wishes she had someone who could help her handle things in Ala Mhigo. Ashelia Riot: From what I gather, Bull has been holding down the fort back at home. Edge Marbrand: I was just about to ask. Glad to hear. Edge Marbrand: How fares Ala Mhigo? Ashelia Riot lets out a single nervous laugh. Ashelia Riot: I... haven't any idea. But presumably the Garleans haven't blown anything up. Ashelia Riot: ...I'm a horrible politician. Edge Marbrand shifts uncomfortably. Edge Marbrand: Well I really hope they haven't. And I disagree! Who's saying that? I'll show them how I do politics! Ashelia Riot giggles. Ashelia Riot: Only half the Undercity. So really, there's no news there. Edge Marbrand: Did your father take over your work there? Ashelia Riot: My dreams tell me no. He's been keeping an eye on the house, but he hasn't so much as spared a glance at the Undercity. Edge Marbrand: A shame. I hope all your work done there wasn't for naught. Ashelia Riot nods, not wanting to contemplate the possibility. Edge Marbrand: If only someone in the Cluster was equipped to handle that... I could send them there... but none of them really come to mind as a good fit. Ashelia Riot waits through that comfortable silence for several moments. Ashelia Riot: ...How about this, then: I'll give it another week. I'll do my best to make whatever inroads I can with Lente's Tears and the rest of the Resistance. And then I'll go home for a little. Edge Marbrand: Do you want to know what I think? Truthfully? Ashelia Riot: Of course. Always. Edge Marbrand: You are spreading yourself far too thin. You cannot be in Ala Mhigo, or Dalmasca, or the Sandsea all at once. And if you keep trying to be in all three of those places you won't accomplish anything in any of them. Ashelia Riot opens her mouth, as if to give some sharp retort... then finds she has no retort to give. Ashelia Riot: ...You're right, of course. Ashelia Riot leans her head against his shoulder. Edge Marbrand: Gods, I wish we did have the ability to be everywhere at once. I want to help here, and back home, and in Doma. Ashelia Riot: And it never does feel right to leave one of them behind. Edge Marbrand nods. Edge Marbrand: You need to pick a cause. And commit to it. Edge Marbrand: If we go home now to check on Ala Mhigo and the Undercity we may lose all of what we've worked for here with Lente's Tears. Ashelia Riot: And if we remain here... I'm as good as handing in my resignation to the council. Edge Marbrand: I *could* stay here while you go check on things, but... bah. They wouldn't listen to me. Yours is the face others rally to. Edge Marbrand: Whatever you choose to do, I'll be with you every step of the way. Ashelia Riot: You're too modest. You've done enough to be recognized in your own right. Ashelia Riot sighs again but gives a firm, resolute nod. Edge Marbrand scoffs. Edge Marbrand: Well I hope not. That defeats the whole point of reconnaissance, doesn't it? Ashelia Riot: Rather, your work speaks for itself. And if they can't recognize your contributions, then... Ashelia Riot doesn't want to say that they don't understand the work it takes for a revolution to succeed. Edge Marbrand disagrees. Edge Marbrand: They do, I'm sure. But I am content with being your shadow. Ashelia Riot kisses him for good measure. Ashelia Riot: Just... thank you. You know I've never once taken it for granted, but... especially not now. Edge Marbrand smiles and kisses her back. Edge Marbrand: I know. Ashelia Riot: ...I know this all affects when we'll be able to truly settle down. Have children. I don't take that for granted, either. Edge Marbrand's expression is warm as he kisses the top of her head. Edge Marbrand: I know. Now is not the time for it, and that's okay. Ashelia Riot melts into the touch, humming softly as she smiles. Ashelia Riot: ...I'll make a choice, love. By the end of the week. Edge Marbrand: And as I said, whichever your choice may be, I will follow down that road as well. Ashelia Riot lets her notebook fall to the floor for a moment; she does not reach to pick it up, as she's too busy looking at him. Just as a smile crosses her face, her private linkpearl - the one she modded from a Garlean device years ago - gives an audible buzz. Ashelia Riot: Do you think it's... Edge Marbrand gestures for her to put in on hurriedly. Ashelia Riot cups it in her hands so they can both hear the incoming message. Malla Velius: Ashelia. I'm safe. But I won't be coming back. Malla Velius: I have the latest from the 9th Bureau. Stay where you are so you can receive it. Ashelia Riot knows better than to interrupt and ask her to explain, but she isn't sure what else to say or do. Ashelia Riot: Understood. Edge Marbrand frowns with worry, but says nothing to interrupt. Malla Velius: The bastard's caught onto my signal. I'll have to destroy this linkpearl as soon as my next data upload goes through. I'll make contact as soon as I'm able. Ashelia Riot: ...Be safe. Ashelia Riot cannot help but think that the words feel so hollow as they leave her. Ashelia Riot: Godsspeed. The connection ends, and a data upload begins. It's a series of audio logs, cached in some empty case files. Ashelia Riot: ...Shite. Edge Marbrand: She's safe. She said so. Ashelia Riot swallows hard. Ashelia Riot: ...And she's survived worse odds. Edge Marbrand nods. Ashelia Riot: Shall we see what she's left us with? Edge Marbrand: Yes, let's. It's a transmission only a few hours old, detailing a captain's account of Legatus Noah van Gabranth's most recent orders: leaving Dalmasca for Bozja. Edge Marbrand: Bozja? The city decimated years ago? Edge Marbrand: Why there? Ashelia Riot frowns. Ashelia Riot: I've no idea. Gods, this is... Ashelia Riot doesn't want to think of this as the perfect opportunity: to rally Dalmasca, to get back at van Gabranth. She knows where that thought has taken her before. Edge Marbrand: Should we wait for your aunt? Ashelia Riot: I don't know if we have that luxury. Edge Marbrand frowns. Ashelia Riot sighs heavily. Ashelia Riot: I think… I think it’s time to bring in the reinforcements.

Resolve, Resolution, Revolution
A roleplay with @magitek-powered-calligraphy.
As Priscilla Scaevola sits on her own by the dango stall, there's a rustle of fine fabrics. A stranger in covered head to toe in mismatched silks sits down on the bench behind her.
"How strange to find you here, Priscilla bas Scaevola."
The stranger's voice, though audible, is garbled by a device beneath the layers of their disguise - a device that alters their voice, making it impossible to know if a man or a woman is speaking.
Priscilla Scaevola is initially startled, less so than usual. Maybe her time on a gods-forsaken island served her well in the end. She remembers the strings she had to pull to get access to Eureka, and how this interaction might be her time to pay for it. "A bard travels where the stories lead. Do you want an autograph? What name should I dedicate it to?"
"Not today." A group of three Garlean soldiers passes by them both, seemingly without noticing either of them. "But I wonder as to the stories you are pursuing, if they have led you to travel with the Riskbreakers."
"I am afraid you might have to wait for the first tome to be finished." She smiles to herself. "But if you are such an adoring fan..." She takes a moment to find the words. "They are stories about people, struggles. Fighting for your convictions against all odds. Sadness, frustration, fear, resolve, resolution, revolution."
"Revolution?" The figure stands; again, there is no telling from their posture or their figure who or even what they might be. "I would be most eager to hear more. Would you be amenable to following me?"
"I'd be hard pressed to follow a stranger into an unknown location." She stands as well, leaving her food behind, appetite suddenly lost. "Do know I can scream quite loudly."
"Naturally. Though do be aware that the current imperial patrol just went off to the Shiokaze Hostelry for drinks. You are safe from them for the foreseeable future."
With that, the figure begins to walk off, past the markets, past the Garlean consulate… to a gardened area underneath an ancient tree.
The figure reaches with their right hand into a wide pocket deep within their robes. They pull out a collection of folded notes, bound in twine and dated from a few moons ago. "Do you recognize the seal on these pages?"
Priscilla gets closer, tilting her head to get a better look. "Looks official." The quality of the wax and shape of the emblem resembles letters she had gotten herself before. "It's familiar. Father used to get commissions from many sections in the Empire. Dalmasca, maybe? Those are rare."
The stranger nods but does not dare say aloud the name of the division, even here. "Would you be willing to send a message to the Grand Steward?"
Priscilla seems lost in thought. Is that the place that requested a set of prototype prostheses? Probably not. She blinks and looks at the stranger when addressed again. "I could send it, but I can't guarantee a response."
The stranger nods again. "Tell her that the fight is not over until the Empire throws down its arms. Tell her that the Dalmascan Resistance calls to the Riskbreakers for aid."
A sudden chill goes down Priscilla’s spine. If this meeting was no ruse or trap, the implications were amazing and terrifying in equal measure. "That I can do. However, if a reply does come, how do we make contact again?"
"Board the Prima Vista. Mention a Galbana lily. I will be there to receive you - or the Grand Steward. She may choose to come alone."
Priscilla exhales, releasing some of her built-up tension. "Simple enough." The people at the Prima Vista are a group that have helped her in her endeavor before. Their mention offered a sliver of truth to the stranger’s motives.
"My thanks," says the stranger. They reach up with their left hand - and their sleeve falls back to reveal a magitek prosthesis made of pitch-black metal. The stranger taps one side of their neck, and the voice module turns off. "I hope to hear from you again." The voice is still unisex, but unmuffled - now Priscilla will know, when or if they meet again, who to find aboard the theater vessel.
Priscilla raises an eyebrow at the prosthesis, but says nothing. The model is not mass-produced and she can recall the days her father spent building it. "I... I also hope to hear from you again."
The stranger nods again, then prepares to leave.
Priscilla Scaevola stays behind, staring at the water for a while. The coincidences were too great. Their encounter was very well-crafted, and it worked. Her writer's mind painted her a picture. They knew she would recognize the emblem. They knew she would recognize her father's work. They wanted a message sent. A lure set in a pond... and she bit.

Akhutai Urit: Ashelia. Ashelia Riot: Tai. What can I help you with? Akhutai Urit grunts. Akhutai Urit: It's about that stone. Please tell me you asked for information on it before accepting the thing. Ashelia Riot is taken aback somewhat; of all the things she expected him to show concern over, the stone was not at the top of the list. Akhutai Urit has been around the block a few too many times to pass over such things.
Ashelia Riot: I asked questions, certainly. Why the Resistance saw fit to give it to us, what significance or value it held, whether it came with any expectations... Akhutai Urit: And...? Ashelia Riot: ...This particular stone is believed to be a relic of the Dalmascan royal line. It was meant as a symbol of our potential contact's respect for our achievements, and the depth of their commitment to an alliance. I have already sworn to return it, should we ultimately reject a proposal to involve the Riskbreakers in Dalmasca's revolution. Ashelia Riot: And as I mentioned before, there is cultural significance in regards to heroes carrying auracite in Dalmasca. Akhutai Urit folds his arms. Akhutai Urit: And for some reason, the fact that the one you call 'Alma' was visibly perturbed by its presence didn't strike you as concerning? Did you question that? Ashelia Riot: ...No. I did not. Akhutai Urit sighs and rubs his forehead. Akhutai Urit: ...I see. Ashelia Riot: Despite not having seen her for twenty years - and despite knowing of her imperial connections - I am certain that she would not act in any way that would place me or the Riskbreakers in danger. Ashelia Riot: I cannot say I would blame you if you do not share my trust. Akhutai Urit: Of course I would not share your trust. I wouldn't share that level of trust even if I were in a similar position. However, I acknowledge that we are different people with wildly different experiences. But I believe it would behoove you to act with, at least, a bit more caution. Especially as a leader whose actions will affect more than just yourself. Ashelia Riot’s face shifts in a series of emotions: defiance, then guilt, then grief. Ashelia Riot: ...I understand. Ashelia Riot hesitates before her next words come. Ashelia Riot: And I know - I know that had I not given the order to send the Riskbreakers into Doma after Vegnagun... you and I might both might have avoided a great deal of suffering. Akhutai Urit shifts his weight, relenting a bit. Akhutai Urit: If it helps, I do not blame you for that. I feel that, in particular, would've been a call most would've made in that situation. Ashelia Riot’s shoulders noticeably relax, her posture growing less tense; so too does her breath leave her in a sigh. Ashelia Riot: And in this situation? Without a direct connection to the Resistance, our understanding of this stone, the fight ahead, everything is limited. I mean to meet them in person, regardless of the potential dangers. And I promise I will not act until we have the answers we need. Akhutai Urit: Still, I would advise you to question everything. Anything that you may notice that could potentially give more answers. If you can help it. I do understand it is sometimes better to act quicker. Akhutai Urit gives a huff that comes out almost like a growl. Akhutai Urit: But the stone that apparently holds power that worries yet another worries me. Even if your trust is well placed, it could simply be because she doesn't have all the information either and doesn't know it isn't something that should be given. Akhutai Urit: Regardless, it seems that there is at least something about it that wasn't told to you. Ashelia Riot nods. Ashelia Riot: There is... There is much that has yet to be said. From Alma, and from me. Ashelia Riot: But I have kept the stone away from my person. At least for the time being. Ashelia Riot does not mention where it is being kept. Akhutai Urit narrows his eyes ever so slightly. Akhutai Urit: Good. I believe that is for the best, at least until we can know it is safe. ...Or how to use it safely, as the case may be. Ashelia Riot nods again. Ashelia Riot: I saw how Etone reacted to its mere presence. Granted, my experience with him is that he can be... hands-on at the best of times. Akhutai Urit sighs. Akhutai Urit: ...Always a great type to have around unknown magicked items. Ashelia Riot: But that being said - I am sincere in my wish for the utmost transparency for the mission ahead. If you have any questions, or if you believe that I am not pursuing an effective resolution, I trust that you will inform me. Akhutai Urit gives a smirk of sorts. Akhutai Urit: I will do my best. Though, I will also be transparent in that I have enough self awareness to know that I have a tendency to act rashly when in the thick of things. Ashelia Riot: If nothing else, I trust your instincts. I always have. Akhutai Urit nearly scoffs before the smirk turns to a grin. Akhutai Urit: You may come to regret that. I've been through more than most; my instincts are probably skewed.

Four Songs - Ashla
I’ve been tagged with this a few times, though due to continued attempts to make my PC behave, I’ve lost track of who all tagged me. I’m redoing it because I’ve expanded Ashe’s playlist a bit.
Deception, by the way, has an amazing violin part. It was amazing live.
youtube
Simple & Clean - Utada Hikaru
The Ace of Spades & The Princess of Hearts
Hold me, whatever lies beyond this morning is a little later on. Regardless of warnings the future doesn't scare me at all. Nothing's like before.
youtube
This Will Be The Day - Casey Lee Williams, Jeff Williams
Dalmascan Resistance Thematic
This will be the day we've waited for; this will be the day we open up the door. I don't wanna hear your absolution; hope you're ready for a revolution. Welcome to a world of new solutions; welcome to a world of bloody evolution In time, your heart will open minds, a story will be told. And victory is in a simple soul.
youtube
Deception - The Cruxshadows
Her Conscious
Life clinging backwards, in the fall of dread confusion. Still this silence gnaws upon your fingertips. Cold yielding breath, for instant isolation, far more sinister than the price of doubt. Yet you remain. Still you remain. And she says: Pray for daylight, pray for morning, pray for an end to our deception...
youtube
Once in a Lifetime - Wolfsheim
(The Knight and the Princess)
And when silence comes back to me, I find myself feeling lonely. Standing here on the shores of destiny, I find myself feeling lonely. I had a life to give, many dreams to live. Don't you know that you're losing so much this time? Beyond the waves, I will be free - while all the others are praying.
Calm down my heart, don't beat so fast, don't be afraid just once in a lifetime. Calm down my heart, don't beat so fast, don't be afraid just once in a lifetime.
