In Cyberpunk RED there is an interesting setting bit about how supply chains have completely collapsed with the global crises and the collapse of the global internet (in Cyberpunk networks are local, the "Old Net" that we know today is no more and it's Haunted) where it says that you can find whole containers of smartphones and other consumer products stranded in ports, adrift ships, warehouses, etc. but the factories that produce them are long shut down.

The supply chain to build our current electronics and other such complex tools for cheap are so complex that this is distressingly possible. The world saw a spike of inflation because of supply issues during COVID but that would be nothing compared to a war in the Pacific, for example. If a couple semiconductor factories shut down, the entire supply chain that produces consumer electronics collapses. No more cheap disposable smartphones (which, in any case, are only possible through the explotation of the global south), but also, probably not any electronics at all for a couple decades.

I went as my V from cyberpunk this Halloween! Which is different for me cause this is my first fem costume ever (even though my V is non binary and has a dick🤣) I did the vest myself(I’ll take pics and post them) and the skippy is a collectible I bought off of CDPR! I’m actually hyped on how this turned out and the editing makes it look 10x cooler!

Seasons greetings and welcome to the first annual Fright Night City!

This is a Cyberpunk 2077 Halloween themed community event which is open to all mediums and all genres. As long as your art is CP2077 (Cyberpunk/Cyberpunk Red ttrpg is okay too) related and in the spirit of Halloween, you’re welcome here and welcome to make whatever you like! I put a trick-or-treat style prompt list together to help feed the inspiration but there’s also a free space if none of them speak to you. Feel free to pick one prompt, combine them, and/or do multiple entries for the week.

I do ask that you please try and post on the day your prompt is assigned to (if you’re doing a combination plate, just pick one of the days, please do not ping me multiple days with the same entry), although nothing bad will happen if you don’t. There are no prizes or judges for this event. We’re all just here to have some good ol’ fashioned Halloween fun. Think of this like hanging out at a giant haunted corn maze with all your fandom friends. 

You do not need to be following me or this sideblog to participate. If you’d like your work to be featured on this Tumblr blog though you do need to tag me (@fright-night-city) and use the following hashtags when you post (#fright night city and/or #fright night city 2024). You're welcome to post and host your art in other places and link it here, but Tumblr's where I'm hosting this event and the only channel I will be searching for entries.

I was thinking about a post where someone said that D&D fans will trick out the game to the point of running Dark Souls on Skyrim through mods levels of changes way before touching another system that is literally a much better, easier, and more accessible version of a game either because of Sunk-cost or being stuck in a place where anything outside of D&D has to be imported in where the PHB/DMG is available at Walmart. So I ask the greater Tumblr community of TTRPGs:

Getting the big sad when a game presents an extremely cool thing in its fiction and then the mechanical implementation of it is boring.

Like, take Cyberpunk RED for example. That TTRPG now has a branded AAA video game and an anime series, and you would think that would help me onboard players to the tabletop game. "Go watch Edgerunners and you'll know what the game world is." Except that if I do that, my players are going to come to the table itching to get their hands on a Sandevistan. If you haven't seen the anime, in it, the Sandevistan is a neural implant that massively increases someone's speed and reaction time, resulting in this:

But when they get it in the game, it does this:

So actually if a player has seen the anime I am just setting them up to be hugely disappointed by what the mechanics do for them.

Probably this is exacerbated by the fact that the game and anime came out after the TTRPG, so in the tabletop design the sandy didn't really have something to live up to. But honestly, I don't believe there was ever a point when a +3 to initiative if you activate the thing in advance wasn't boring. This isn't even a game where you reroll initiative each round, if you don't activate this before a fight starts, it's useless.
