I said I would be posting more now that I have a laptop upstairs, and I will. I haven't posted much yet because I was still getting used to the keyboard and trying to get to a more comfortable typing speed that didn't frustrate me.
I actually bought a MacBook Air. I borrowed some money from my dad that I will be paying back over time. It's my first Apple product if you don't count the iPhone I got for my parents. It's a wonderful computer. The M1 chip is super zippy. Battery life is amazing. My former 12 year old laptop lasted about 2 hours per charge. This thing lasts me basically all day. The construction is very impressive. The aluminum body feels very sturdy. The screen is beautiful and gets way brighter than I need. And while they don't have any bass, I can't believe how good these tiny laptop speakers sound. My old laptop sounded like a super quiet AM radio. This thing hasn't gotten even mildly warm yet (though I am not rendering video or anything). It is very light. I feel comfortable taking it with me around the house if I need to. The old laptop was about 12 pounds and I think this is 2.75 or so.
Apple just makes good laptops. They always have, though they weren't always a great value. But I think the M1/M2 models are actually competitively priced as long as you don't get too many upgrades. The upgrade prices are still bonkers.
The OS has taken some getting used to. But for basic functions it's fine. I haven't had any trouble navigating. And the search function is much better than Windows. As is the aesthetics.
I don't really get into those technology pissing contests. I considered a Windows laptop, but there were just so many PC laptop choices and I was overwhelmed with the research required to find a good one. Not only can quality vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, but it can also vary from model to model. There are shitty Dells and fantastic Dells. I just didn't have the energy to figure out which was which. But I knew the new M1 Macs were all well reviewed and would serve my needs. So, that's what I got.
One bonus is that all of my friends are on iPhones and so now I can use iMessage and not turn into a dreaded green bubble. I still think Apple should make texting with android not crappy, but I'm happy to have a less frustrating way to communicate with my friends until that happens. If it ever does. (C'mon Europe, force Apple to fix that!)
Choosing tech these days is just about your needs and preferences. Brand loyalty is bullshit. All of the companies basically suck as far as business practices. Google might even be eviler these days. Microsoft has always been shit. And Dell has some of the worst customer service around. In this particular instance, Apple was the least evil choice for my needs and preferences. And anytime I need to do something only a PC can handle, I can just pop downstairs and use my desktop machine.
My only complaint so far is that I don't like how the scroll wheel functions with my bluetooth mouse. I like to scroll 3 lines at a time and Apple has this weird scroll acceleration feature that scrolls really slow at first and then crazy fast the more you scroll. I think there is a workaround but I haven't had the time to figure it out yet.
I'm excited to test out Photoshop, as I've heard the M1 version is about 50% faster. I just haven't had the energy to edit any photos recently.
So, that's my Apple experience so far. It's a good computer that I hope will last for many years. I also like that they maintain decent resale value if I need something different down the line.

How to Build a Gaming Computer
Tumblr media
Building a gaming computer is a rewarding and enjoyable experience that offers the dual benefits of customization and cost savings. Whether you're a seasoned gamer or a tech enthusiast, assembling your own PC can be an exciting project. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you build a gaming computer.
1. Determine Your Budget and Needs
Before you begin, it's essential to establish a budget. Gaming computers can range from a few hundred ruppe to several thousand. Consider what games you'll be playing and at what settings. For example, if you plan on playing the latest AAA titles at ultra settings and high resolutions, you'll need to invest more in a powerful graphics card and processor.
2. Choose Your Components
Each component of your gaming PC plays a crucial role. Here’s a rundown of what you'll need:
Central Processing Unit (CPU): The CPU is the brain of your computer. For gaming, a mid to high-end CPU from Intel or AMD is recommended. Popular choices include the Intel Core i5/i7/i9 and AMD Ryzen 5/7/9 series.
Graphics Processing Unit (GPU): The GPU is the most critical component for gaming performance. NVIDIA and AMD are the leading manufacturers. Consider a current-generation GPU like the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 series or AMD Radeon RX 6000 series for optimal performance.
Motherboard: The motherboard should be compatible with your CPU and GPU. It’s the main circuit board that connects all components. Ensure it has enough slots and ports for future upgrades.
Memory (RAM): At least 16GB of RAM is recommended for modern gaming. RAM affects your system's ability to run games smoothly and handle multitasking.
Storage: Solid State Drives (SSDs) are much faster than Hard Disk Drives (HDDs). A combination of an SSD for your operating system and games, and an HDD for additional storage, is ideal.
Power Supply Unit (PSU): A reliable PSU ensures that your components receive a stable power supply. A unit with an 80 Plus rating and sufficient wattage for your build is recommended.
Case: The case houses all your components. Choose one with good airflow and enough space for your parts and future upgrades.
Cooling System: Proper cooling is crucial to prevent overheating. This can be achieved through air cooling (fans) or liquid cooling systems.
Peripherals: Don’t forget a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and headset. A gaming monitor with a high refresh rate and low response time can enhance your gaming experience.
Building a gaming computer is a fulfilling endeavor that allows for complete control over your gaming setup. With careful planning and attention to detail, you can create a system that meets your gaming needs and provides a platform for future upgrades. Happy gaming!

How to Find the Perfect Mouse Sensitivity in CS2
Adjusting the sensitivity of the mouse sensor in Counter-Strike 2 is arguably the most customizable aspect of the game. You can copy someone's aiming settings or employ other options, but mouse sensitivity should be adjusted to suit you personally.
Adjusting the sensitivity level in CS2 can radically affect the performance of the game. It has the potential to radically change your player ranking! While other settings in CS2 are important, mouse sensitivity is the centerpiece of the player settings library.
How to Change Mouse Sensitivity in CS2
Fine-tuning CS2 sensitivity is simple: go to Options by selecting the gear icon in the upper left corner, then navigate to the Mouse and Keyboard Control section. Usually, this is the first screen that opens. Then, simply enter the desired value in the “Mouse Sensitivity Settings” field or use the slider to adjust it.
A faster way to change the mouse sensitivity in the game is through console commands. Remember that you need to activate the console before using it. To do this, go to Settings, then to the Games section and set the Enable Developer Console option to Yes! “.
Then, using the “~” key, you can summon the console. Note that the console can be assigned any key that is convenient for you. This is done in the “Keyboard and Mouse” menu under the “UI Keys” section, where you can change the console activation key in the “Toggle Console” option.
To adjust mouse sensitivity using console commands, follow these steps:
Activate the console.,
2,Type in the command sensitivity X(enter the command sensitivity period as a decimal point).
                    How to Change Mouse DPI
Adjusting the DPI of your mouse is a simple process, but can significantly improve your comfort level when interacting with your computer, including during gaming and activities that require precision. Most gaming mice on the market offer the option to adjust the DPI, giving you room for precise sensitivity adjustments.
First, if you have a gaming mouse, you will need the manufacturer's software, which can usually be downloaded from the official website. These applications allow for deep customization of your device. The application makes it easy to find and adjust DPI settings, choose from a list of presets or set your own values for a more personalized approach.
For a more intuitive approach, many mouse designs include buttons that allow dynamic DPI adjustment. This feature is useful in gaming environments where you need to quickly switch between various sensitivity settings. A quick press of the DPI button will instantly change responsiveness. To understand the mechanism behind these buttons, it is recommended to consult the user manual.
If the program installation does not work for you, or your gaming mouse does not have a DPI button, you can always adjust the cursor speed through your computer's system settings. While this method does not allow for direct DPI adjustment, it does modify the sensitivity by adjusting the overall speed at which the cursor moves across the screen.
In conclusion, please understand that there is no single “perfect” DPI value - everything is highly individualized, depending on your preferences and goals. Don't hesitate to experiment with different settings to find the one that best suits your needs.
Mouse Sensitivity Settings for Professional CS2 Gamers
Check out the sensitivity settings of some of the top AWP players in CS2:
ZywOo: Sensitivity: 2, DPI: 400 and eDPI: 800
   Brockie: Sensitivity: 1.9, DPI: 400, eDPI: 760
Very Good: sensitivity: 2.67, DPI: 400 and eDPI: 1068
   m0NESY: Sensitivity: 2, DPI: 400 and eDPI: 800
Mouse sensitivity settings for riflemen in CS2:
   NiKo: sensitivity: 1.35, DPI: 400, eDPI: 540
   ropz: Sensitivity: 1.77, DPI: 400, eDPI: 708
   Donk: sensitivity: 1.25, DPI: 800, eDPI: 1000
Freeze: Sensitivity: 1.6, DPI: 400 and eDPI: 640
The general trend is that players using AWP typically have higher overall DPI values, which may be useful for players using AWP in CS2.
Keep in mind that choosing sensitivity in CS2 is entirely up to personal preference. Examples of professional settings can be used as a guide, but the best experience is when you find the settings that work best for you. If you are used to 3.5 sensitivity, switching completely to 1.2 may feel uncomfortable. It is recommended to make gradual adjustments, about 0.5 at a time, to find the perfect sensitivity balance for you.
How to find the best sensitivity for you in CS2
Patience and experimentation are key when finding the best mouse sensitivity settings. A tried and true method is to use the game pad as a benchmark. Try making a 180-degree rotation, moving the mouse from one side of the pad to the other. If this can be done easily and accurately, you've probably found the optimal sensitivity level. If the distance required for the turn is short, the sensitivity may be set too high. Conversely, if there is not enough room to make a 180-degree turn, this may indicate a need to increase the sensitivity.
For more precise adjustments, use the AIM Botz map in CS2 during practice. This allows you to perfect your shots by practicing on a stationary bot. When you find that you have complete control over aiming and shooting and feel confident with every shot, you may have found the ideal sensitivity parameters.
However, the true test of your sensitivity settings occurs in 5-on-5 matches. Playing against real opponents in an active environment will give you a deeper understanding of the effectiveness of your settings. These matches serve as real-world trials and provide the opportunity to refine your settings for optimal gaming comfort.
Once you have determined the sensitivity settings that work best for you, it is best to keep changes to a minimum. Regular modifications can disrupt your flow and adversely affect your game play, as your brain and muscle memory need time to adjust to the new settings. By ensuring optimal settings, you can focus your energy on building other skills, making each game a step towards proficiency.
  Conclusion
Setting mouse sensitivity in games like CS2 is a very personal choice that must fit your gaming style and personal preferences. Don't stop looking for the best parameters, try different options until you find the one that suits you best. The ideal sensitivity you find will not only improve your gaming accuracy and comfort, but it will also help improve your overall gaming proficiency.

Is the keyboard hobby dying?
Tumblr media
The year was 2021.
I was doing some online classes and I've received complaints that my gaming keyboard was too loud when used in class. I did try to type softer but my classmates can still hear it.
So I've embarked on a journey to create my first custom keyboard. My first board was a silent keyboard, using parts I got from Ali Express. It took at least a month for everything to arrive. From there, I stumbled down a rabbit hole in the keyboard hobby. I have to say, this has to be the most expensive hobby I've ever entered, especially when I began to seek higher quality products.
Tumblr media
Two years later, I've collected 24 keyboards, with some still being made due to manufacturing delays. But ever since I joined, I've noticed the landscape has changed. For starters, there are more extras for keycaps unlike before. Also, the amount of group buys that have entered the market somewhat reduced. Meanwhile, the WTS pages on Discord tend to be filled with the same listing, with some announcing that their departure was the cause of their sale.
Are people now getting sick of keyboards?
Let me set the scene.
The year was 2020 and working from home became somewhat the norm. At the same time, there was a pandemic happening. People decided to play video games since they couldn't go outside. So building a custom keyboard makes sense since it is an item that we use a lot at home. There were videos where the things that we typed on made really cool sounds. Also, there was the retail therapy aspect of it, where you'd spend hundreds of dollars for parts, only for it to be built a few months, and in most cases, years later.
If there is one phrase that people in this hobby are aware of, it's the term "Group Buy." For those who don't know what it means, it is essentially equivalent to a "Kickstarter Pre-Order." Designers would ask vendors to host these group buys to determine if a product like a keyboard or keycap would meet MOQ (minimum order quantity). Once it hits, it can begin the manufacturing process, which could take months, and in most cases, years.
An example is the keycap set, EPBT Dreamscape. This set entered Group Buy in mid-2021, but it began shipping in mid-2023. This was a two-year wait for plastic. It's no wonder why some people resorted to buying clones (which is a whole separate can of worms).
Tumblr media
Fortunately, vendors would list extras and the price would be somewhat higher than the initial group buy listing. However, I've noticed lately that some sets were unable to leave the shelves. An example is GMK Dracula V2.0. The first version was super sought-after and would sell out within minutes. Now, it seems like not everyone is interested in buying this set, at least in the Australian market.
Tumblr media
I spoke to some community members about this on Discord, and they told me a variety of reasons why extras aren't being sold as heavily as before. For starters, the hobby has slowed down lately. Also, we're in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis. Hobbyists are now being careful about what they're purchasing. But one major reason why not many people are buying extra keysets, at least for GMK, is the quality and how people received terrible and "funky looking" sets after years of waiting. Now, people don't want to wait another five months for replacements.
The reason why there is a lack of in-stock products is due to the MOQ. Producing custom keyboards for the market is very expensive and if something goes wrong, the designer would be out of pocket. Sure, there are a few in-stock items, but they're usually cheap and not as high quality. Fortunately, as time went on, more HQ in-stock items entered the market. However, the concept of Group Buys may have caused people to bounce.
As mentioned earlier, Group Buys are done through vendors. These are your online stores where you can buy parts and extras. If you're lucky, you could still get a keycap set that was first sold last year. However, it was reported during the past few months that some became shady and have closed due to the mismanagement of funds.
Keyboard YouTuber, Taeha Types released a video that goes into excruciating detail about this type of situation and how many people were heavily affected and were worried about their orders.
youtube
As someone who's been in the hobby for two years, these factors were the reason why I stopped participating in group buys. Sure, it was cool to get a fancy bespoke board and really cute keycaps. But when it took two years for my orders to be produced, and it's taking longer for some of them to ship due to regional issues, the waiting game started to get boring.
Also, I joined two group buys that were either cancelled or heavily delayed due to a vendor's mismanagement. Fortunately, the Asia-Pacific region isn't heavily affected. But when you see the designer announce on Discord that a group buy re-run would put them under the red, that's not good.
Tumblr media
We live in a world where we have one or same-day shipping with Amazon. How items will arrive within a week or so. And when they do arrive, it usually isn't that bad. Meanwhile, we have custom items that are taking forever to come out, and when they do, the quality is shit. By this point, you're better off buying cheap alternatives.
But are these issues enough to kill a hobby?
Not exactly.
As of writing, not many products have entered the group buy stage. However, manufacturers are slowly trying to release more in-stock products. An example is KBD Fans with PBTFans collection and Osume and its releases. Hobbyists will be able to purchase decent keycaps that will ship immediately. If there is an issue, it is usually resolved in an instant.
At the same time, designers like HIBI.MX and Mode Designs are releasing more in-stock keyboards for those who want something high quality but without the 1 year waiting period.
While more people are trying to downsize their collection, the hobby has changed since it rose in popularity. In-stock items have risen in quality. Sure, they are still cheap plastic keyboards. But we're also seeing some aluminium builds for less than $100. This means that selling an old $90 acrylic keyboard may be difficult now due to the amount of options there are in the market.
While it is sad to see people announce their departure on Discord and Facebook groups, as well as see people struggling to downsize their collection due to lack of interest, it is important to know that the hobby is changing. Sure, it may look like it's dying, but perhaps it's going through a long and well-needed change. This is no longer 2020. And as long as there are those interested in creating these amazing builds. Don't expect this hobby to die out anytime soon.

“Alice in Wonderland” at the Supreme Court :: December 6, 2022
Robert B. Hubbell
On Monday, the Supreme Court held a bizarre hearing on a case the Court should have refused to hear. The reactionary majority bent over backward to accept review of 303 Creative v. Elenis, a case that was hand-crafted by religious advocacy groups to expand the grounds for discriminating against LGBTQ people. Based on comments by the reactionary justices during oral argument, the majority will rule that business owners can discriminate against LGBTQ people if their business offers services that involve “speech” of any kind. 303 Creative v. Elenis is merely the latest step in the Court’s effort to advance the religious agenda of the Christian evangelical base that successfully appointed Justices Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett.
The oral arguments regarding 303 Creative devolved into offensive and unhinged hypothetical questions from Justice Alito because the case does not present an actual “case or controversy”—as required by the Constitution. In general, the jurisdiction of federal courts is limited to real disputes in which the plaintiff can show actual injury. (That is a gross oversimplification of a complicated judicial doctrine, but stick with me for a moment!)
The 303 Creative “controversy” was manufactured by a religious advocacy organization (ADF). The plaintiff is a web design company that might—in the future—offer such services for weddings. But the plaintiff does not yet offer that service, may never do so, and (therefore) has not yet been asked to provide those services to a same-sex couple. Nonetheless, the plaintiff asks the Court for an advisory ruling about its obligations under a Colorado statute prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.
The metaphysical nature of the alleged “case or controversy” in 303 Creative is explained by Mark Joseph Stern’s article in Slate, The Easy-to-Miss Twist That Makes the Supreme Court’s New Gay Rights Case So Strange. Per Stern,
No same-sex couple has ever asked Smith to make them a wedding website; in fact, she has never made a wedding website for anyone. Her work to date focuses on local politicians, dog breeders, contractors, and houses of worship—not celebrations of life events.
Smith one day might be asked to make a same-sex couple’s website, ADF asserted. And when that day comes, she wants the right to say no.
There is no live controversy, and therefore no facts against which the justices could test their legal theories. It would be supremely helpful to know, for instance, how Smith would have responded to a request from a same-sex couple.
Critically, the Colorado statute at issue would permit the plaintiff to refuse to make a custom website for same-sex couples, but if the business offers “off the shelf” website designs for sale to the public, Colorado requires those “templates” to be made available to everyone. But 303 Creative claims it can refuse to sell a standardized product to same-sex couples. As explained by Ian Millhiser in Vox,
The main thing that Colorado’s law requires, according to the state, is that once a web designer agrees to sell a particular web design to the public, it must provide the same service to people of all sexual orientations.
The “Alice-in-Wonderland” quality of the alleged “dispute” presented to the Court resulted in wildly speculative hypotheticals as the justices attempted to grapple with a case that presented no actual dispute. Particularly offensive was Justice Alito, who asked questions about a “Black Santa Claus” being photographed “with a child who’s dressed up in a Ku Klux Klan outfit.” After Alito posed his offensive hypothetical, he then said the following (apparently as a sarcastic “joke”):
You do see a lot of Black children in Ku Klux Klan outfits, right? All the time!
The bizarre hearing should cause the justices to conclude they erred in granting review of the case and dismiss the appeal. (Hold onto your keyboards, my attorney friends! No one knows what “Certiorari was improvidently granted” means!) But the conservative majority will not do so; instead, it will chip away at the right of LGBTQ people to be treated like “people”—human beings who possess the same rights, privileges, and responsibilities as all other Americans.
The rightward lurch of the Court coincides with efforts of many state legislatures to legitimize discrimination against LGBTQ people by prohibiting discussion of gender identity and sexual orientation in educational settings. Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” law has inspired a variety of similar bills in a dozen states. Such bills serve as a wedge for legitimizing future discrimination against other groups. They are also culture war “cluster bombs” designed to conceal the moral bankruptcy of the Republican Party.
Florida’s attack on LGBTQ people is a lesson not lost on Vladimir Putin, who today imposed his own supercharged “Don’t Say Gay” law. See Cathy Young in The Bulwark, Russia to Gays: Shut Up and Disappear. (The law prohibits all public speech or actions deemed to encourage “distorted notions of the social equivalency of traditional and nontraditional sexual relations.”)
Of course, Putin is using discrimination against LGBTQ people to distract attention from Russia’s catastrophic invasion of Ukraine. And although Putin’s law is more comprehensive than Florida’s, his modus operandi is identical to that of Ron DeSantis: Attack a vulnerable minority to intimidate others into submissive obedience. Such is the way of all dictators—and religious reactionaries across the ages.
Sadly, the conservative majority of the Supreme Court has decided to aid and abet the efforts of religious reactionaries in America to impose their parochial views on the strong majority of Americans who do not share those views. Today in the Supreme Court, the target of that reactionary minority was the LGBTQ community. We must resist attacks on the rights and dignity of LGBTQ people with all our might—just as we must also defend the full personhood and citizenship of women, ethnic and racial minorities, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups subject to discrimination by MAGA extremists.

art/manufacturing question: is there a way to like, put someone's art on a plastic piece, like an USB dongle shell, without bodging it? but like, unique art?
USB dongle shells are usually injection molded but if you wanna make a platform for artists to submit their work and ppl can buy someone's art on USB dongles, injection molding doesn't really work for that. you could do screen printing but that doesn't handle e.g. transparency. what are the options?
for light coloured plastic you could do dye sublimation with a basic heater setup and an inkjet printer with refilled cartridges of sublimation dye, which is probably the most durable option feasible for a small operation. The custom mechanical keyboard crowd do things like this pretty often.
For complex surface geometries it starts getting finicky because you need a heat source that physically presses onto the target well, there's a few ways I've seen people make compliant heat transfer elements and hack them on to clothes and hair irons, if you're operating at a slightly larger scale you can probably buy something.

Flexible customization for cheap
One of the joys of working from home is you can personalize, get into the finer details of your work environment and make them as comfortable and pleasant to all senses as possible. To achieve that sweet ASMR experience.
That said, I just got into enthusiast mechanical keyboards. I'm so happy with my recent keyboard purchase I've been using for almost a month now. It's a pre-built enthusiast mechanical keyboard. It checks all my boxes and it doesn't cost as much compared to the GMMK pro.
Three things I look for in a keyboard: First, it has to be in a 75% layout because I don't want to get rid of the function keys or have to press a combination of buttons to access them as in the case of 65% keyboard layouts.
Second, it has to have a solid, dense, non-hollow knob. The less obvious the gap between the knob and the keyboard outer shell the better. And the knob has to appear to be placed cleanly on top of the shell and not thru it (just my weird personal preference).
Third, it should be decent enough in stock form.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It can connect to three different devices and switch on the fly between them via Bluetooth. Compatible across different operating systems Windows/Mac/Linux which I've personally tried and tested.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The one thing I've overlooked and only found out later after some browsing is that I wouldn't be able to use shine thru key caps with it if I ever decide to.
Since most keyboard PCB LED placements tend to be north facing, most if not all backlit key caps are made to have top legends.
Tumblr media
Although south facing LEDs are much preferred due to not having the problem with interference when paired with Cherry key caps, the downside is it doesn’t work well with backlit key caps.
Tumblr media
At least I'll still get to have the option to use illuminated side printed key caps. Those are pretty neat too.
It comes in two colorways, black and white which makes it flexible enough to match with any type of key caps suited for dark or light colored keyboard outer shell / frame.
What's interesting about this affordable model is that it is just one of the number of clone models offered by the different brands that get their products made by the same original equipment manufacturer. Something that could work to my advantage, which I’ll get into later.
Epomaker TH80, Lychee G80, Keydous NJ80, Mathew Tech MK80, Tech Veil 80 and Feker IK75 Pro (not the V3) are all the same albeit with varying configuration, brand and packaging.
I got mine from Mathew Tech brand which I’ve chosen because they offer different options for the plate (brass/steel), foam (Poron/EVA) and switches. And theirs' have dual stage flip up risers. Yes, these materials affect how thocky, clicky or clacky sounding the keyboard would be. I personally prefer the thocky setup.
The advantages of it being a clone are if I ever decide to go with a different outer shell color I have the option to buy only the shell from Keydous which other brands don't provide you the option to. Then I can spray paint any choice of color over it.
Tumblr media
I can also buy different knob colors from whichever clone brand since they offer different colors for their respective clones. Feker also has theirs different from the rest since they are the only ones who have their LEDs north facing. This crosses another checkbox with customization (Hello shine thru key caps).
Tumblr media
You can buy the Feker brand just for the north facing PCBs in a different shell color from the one you already have then have the shell or PCB mix and match to your liking.
Edit: I later realized Ik75 isn't a clone (the exploded arrows and 4 right side keys give it away) but it's a nice alternative nonetheless since it ticks the first two check boxes (75% layout w/ a solid knob) I look for in a keyboard.
With Akko brand not getting their inventory restocked for some reason (the wireless units) this is not a bad alternative at all.
Not to say that I have the time nor the luxury to splurge for the time being but it's the variety of options down the line that gets me excited.
While I don't plan on owning a lot of keyboards like the hobbyists do, I do like the customizability from just owning two.
This could be a very good therapeutic occasional hobby.
Tumblr media
Here is how it looks like with the backlight turned off.
Tumblr media
This stock construction themed key caps meet the retro tinkerer look that I'm going for. This key cap theme will serve me for now until I get my ergonomic chair that I'm saving up for which is what I'll be reviewing next (maybe). After which I'll modify this to get it to look like this Akko keyboard soon.

Hopeful without being too hopeful.
Maybe some good news for the computer desk area!
Found an "infinitely" positionable freestanding pneumatic arm vesa-mount thinger designed for SMALL light-weight touch screen monitors. This sounds perfect because the 16" cintiq is definitely small as monitors go, and obviously is a pen screen with touch capabilities and needs to be closer to one's body but also needs infinite positioning as a drawing surface.
What i really like about this one is that it is free standing -- no grommet mounting or clamp mounting to the desk. The base of the stand is very low profile and flat. One could probably slide their keyboard over it when stowing it away. (this is the manufacturer and while they are out of stock, I was -- annoying and disappointingly -- able to get it for the same price via, well, yeah, amazon).
I also have a replacement for that broken/stuck clamp-to-desk mounted infinitely positionable (but far more bulky -- booo! plus that ugly clamp will be on the front of my desk -- blerg) that will arrive on saturday. This new item I found looks better and like a more hopeful solution. It should be arriving on sunday.
May the better small-monitor vesa-mount pneumatic arm win! My RSI-crippled limbs need a solution that is perfect.
(and then all the losers go back into boxes and into the car and off to the return processing).
Meanwhile, a little while ago I ordered a splurge item that is actually CHEAPER than the "executive" equivalents that spam up the Nice Looking monitor riser desk shelf market.
The carpenter who is building my massive (very long, deeper than usual, custom sized) desk shelf is going to send me update pix over the weekend as he makes it from his personal woodshop. OMG! That will hide all of the clutter of 10,000 cables for 10,000 peripherals and will also look really beautiful. I hope.
It will be a little work of art that is honestly very reasonably priced given what is out there as more mass-marketed things.
Trying not to get too excited.
Have a few more small "clutter begone" items to finish selecting for the computer desk and then on to the task of decorating the patch of wall behind the computer desk (bookcase shelves are above it -- so the patch of wall is very cozy feeling and very "contained in a bookcase" feeling too!!).
I think I will hang a self-made collage lots of very little demo/exercise paintings or drawings of mine that are either botanical art or sort of classically inspired things. Plus meaningful quotes, although that requires me to improve my lettering skills. >_<
Although, rather than rummage through old demo art or small painting studies of mine from the past, I think I want to fill this space slowly with entirely new stuff. For reasons. ;)
(hm-- maybe the quotes will be done really nicely with digital tools and printed. My calligraphy skills are HORRRRRRIBLE despite my high levels of competence with dip-pen and a pot of ink for art. idk. lol. my handwriting is awful too. orz.)
Still to be decided is whether or not I replace the small desk lamp with something more Aesthetic(tm) and if I hang fairy lights or some other soft ambient lighting in this area. It needs some more cheer because a significant portion of the year is very dark. Hm.
This area should look a lot better and be far more functional (ergonomics) within two weeks or less. (decoration that involves me doing new small paintings will take time but that's part of the fun -- saving little studies and mini demos for my own decor ;)
OKAY.
Next four areas to think about (all immediately adjacent to this computing zone) are:
Bookshelves above the desk and on the side of the desk. OMFG THE MESS AND NONSENSICAL CHAOS! WHat goEs THeRe and WHY? WHAT THE HELL IS CURRENTLY THERE? Why is it such a mess? One of these shelves needs to become a display area that is full of epic good feels.
My little rolling file cabinet and crap holder is bursting with crap. Needs organization that makes sense for the computer desk area.
The L-bump out and the corner dead zone. So much possibility for the corner dead zone. Plants? A little cabinet of curiosities of some of my nature items? But it must be cat friendly. Hm. HM!
DEEEEP storage space under one portion of the desk needs my attention. It's a good place for storing certain art studio items. Might be punted for a few weeks as I clear through and (re)organize other areas.

RGB gaming keyboards
Tumblr media
RGB keyboards, also known as backlit keyboards, are keyboards that feature customizable lighting for each individual key. These lights can be set to display a wide range of colors and can be configured to create different patterns and effects. RGB keyboards are popular among gamers and computer enthusiasts as they provide a more immersive gaming experience and can also be used to enhance the aesthetics of a setup.
RGB lighting on keyboards is controlled by software that is often included with the keyboard or can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website. This software allows users to choose from a variety of pre-installed lighting effects or create their own custom effects. Some keyboards even allow users to program the lighting to match specific games or programs.
In case you are interest in RGB gaming keyboards under a low budget then you should read this page best gaming keyboards under 2000
One of the benefits of RGB keyboards is that they can help to improve the visibility of the keys, especially in low-light situations. This can be particularly useful for gamers who often play in dimly lit rooms or for people who work with their computers at night. RGB keyboards can also be used to create a unique and personalized look for a setup, as users can choose from a wide range of colors and effects to match their preferences.
However, RGB keyboards can be more expensive than traditional keyboards and may require additional software to be installed on the computer. Additionally, some users may find the lighting to be distracting or unnecessary, and prefer a simpler keyboard without RGB lighting.
In conclusion, RGB keyboards are a popular choice among gamers and computer enthusiasts due to their customizable lighting and improved visibility in low-light situations. However, they can be more expensive and may require additional software to be installed on the computer. It's a matter of personal preference whether to choose RGB keyboard or not.

it's fucked that computer mouse components are so inaccessible compared to keyboard parts because with 3d printers now it's so easy to build custom mice that would last forever if you could actually buy the components for it. theres a company that makes open source 3d printable mice and sells kits called ploopy (stop laughing yes it's real) and they are literally like. sorry guys we can do literally everything except make a good mouse wheel because they straight up dont sell those parts and we don't have the specific manufacturing capability. hope youre fine with that
