Curufin’s wife as Lady Macbeth
#Torn between ferocious maternal instinct (protect celebrimbor) and batshit patriotism (how dare that motherfucker kill my king)#I want a jealous mother-son relationship. She is covetous. She worries that Curufin will take celebrimbor away from her#Obsessively curates celebrimbor’s reputation#Forcible restrained him from going to alqualonde because she knew there would be killing and her boy will not bloody his hands#Twisted as fuck but celebrimbor remembers her as the woman who wanted the best for him#But she would literally kill for him. Insane levels of devotion to her son and ideas of family glory and legacy#She married Curufin. She was at least as crazy as he was.#Oh also egging on her husband on the weapon-forging Morgoth-opposing front#Stupidly stupidly proud#stupidly stupidly stubborn#also she can beat Curufin at arm wrestling#silmarillion#silm#Silm hc#silm headcanons#Curufin’s wife#Shakespeare

My headcanons for Maglor and Curufin's wives
Curufin's Wife
Her name is Wilwarindea (means butterfly-like)
She's a painter! She favours watercolours.
She has a strange sense of humor, laughs at weird things.
kind of a funny little bird all around. The type of person to see a misshapen fruit at the market and packbond with it.
She’s whip-smart.. but also a bit of a cloudcuckoolander
Very sweet but doesn't fall for Curufin's nonsense.
Or anyone's nonsense really. It’s part of the reason Curufin fell for her.
Half-Vanyarin
She dies at Alqualondë
I’m unsure that if she would have lived that she would have followed Curufin to Middle Earth, I’m leaning on the side of her going, if only for her son.
Maglor's wife
Her name is Tintilare Ivariel
Maglor calls her Lissë as apesse
as you can tell by her fathername, she's the daughter of the Ivárë mentioned in the Lay of Luthien and Beren!
She met Maglor when he went to study music under the Teleri.
She and Maglor originally HATED one another, she thought he was a spoiled big-headed idiot and he thought she was a snobby tightwad
Musical rivals to lovers
Their relationship was also a musical partnership
Arguing about chord arrangement is their idea of foreplay
She doesn't go to Middle Earth (get divorced, Maglor you bozo)
Really struggles after the Kinslaying at Alqualondë because those were her people that died, but also she's guilty for their deaths in a way. She isn’t welcomed back by the Teleri because of her connection to the Feanorians. and her other family has all left (and is also stained with the blood of innocents)
Hangs out with Nerdanel for a while.
Her and Wilwarindea were extremely close and best friends
Her feelings for Maglor are very conflicted
She loves him and doesnt love him
and they've been apart longer than they ever were together
and the name she loved him with is not the name he is now known by. He will always be Makalaurë to her.
but Elves marry for life and so it's a rough situation all around
The first time she hears the Noldodantë she is inconsolable.
I like to imagine that the tune in the section about the kinslaying at Alqualondë is based on music the two wrote together
#I am so attatched to these ladies#i orginally made Lissë in eighth grade#she's changed a lot over the years#Maybe I should make a tag for these characters#the world is gnawed by nameless things#silmarillion headcanon#silmarillion#the silmarillion#maglor’s wife#Curufin’s wife#I get so crazy thinking about them#I love them soooo much#I have face claims for them too!#And drawn designs#the marchioness rambles

Obviously devastated but it's also pretty in-character for Ruindis to fail and lose :')
Obscure Tolkien Blorbo: Round 2
Curufin's wife vs Beregond
Curufin's wife:
The wife of Curufin and mother of Celebrimbor, who remained behind in Aman during the Flight of the Noldor.
Curufin's wife deserves some votes for putting up with him. She was married to that guy and had to deal with all the murders and she didn't even get a name! Where is the justice! I actually think she should get to be an active participant in the murders.
just picture the woman who married curufin AND raised celebrimbor, and then tell me why you’re Not voting for her. go on, i’ll wait
Beregond:
A Man of Gondor and one of the Guards of the Citadel, who abandoned his post to save Faramir’s life.
loyal, friendly, good dad

a last minute little doodle for Day One of @tolkienocweek for the prompt "Family Members".
I'm both a Curufin and a Celebrimbor stan, and I also have a magnetic attachment to forgotten mothers & wives in both fiction and history, so it's really no surprise that I have been Thinking lately about what Celebrimbor's mother must have been like! Celebrimbor turned out so well despite the uh, you know, *gestures vaguely at the entire Silmarillion* -- so I have to put that down to both Curufin and his wife's parenting. I feel like they must have had a really good relationship and must have been super good parents. I imagine her to be pretty level headed and grounded -- sweet but firm. Celebrimbor gets his hair from his mom & from Míriel. I know this isn't really the traditional fanon interpretation of him, but I love the idea that he doesn't really look much like Fëanor at all and there may have been a bit of compensation in the patronym curufinwë (it just makes his choice to go by Telperinquar that much jucier imo...)
I'm not completely set on his mother's name yet, but I've been fiddling around with Telperindil (silver lily) -- to go along with Telperinquar. I'm certainly no expert on naming characters in Quenya though so I'm not sure I've gotten that right!
In any case, I love her, I would die for her. She's awesome. I'm pretty certain she chose to stay behind instead of exile, and was there to greet Celebrimbor the second he was re-embodied from the halls.
#because yes he DID get re-embodied and I won't accept anything else lol#my heart can't take it#celebrimbor#tolkienocweek#curufin's wife#my art#the silmarillion#this outfit also isn't super forge appropriate but it IS super cute

i have some thoughts regarding Celebrimbor’s mother because i disagree with the idea that good people with shitty fathers must’ve gotten their ideals from their mothers. WRONG! We need shit mom representation so here we go
I don’t have a name for her yet. Sorry guys
She’s a highly renowned and respected noldo linguist who focuses on etymology. She is also older than Curufin.
She is NOT a fan of the Noldo royal family, especially the feanorian line. The kids Finwe had with Indis are ok but my god Feanor and his brats are insufferable.
Unfortunately her being so respected, especially in one of Feanor’s own fields, means that he gave her a few glances, decided he liked her, and arranged with her family to have her wed Curufin.
And you do not just say to the crown prince of the Noldor that no i don’t want to marry your twat son, so…
Needless to say neither of them were happy about it.
She was especially not pleased because let’s just say she enjoyed the company of her own sex or whatever GRRM likes to say. And Curufin is eyeing up Finrod but we knew that already
Anyway they have a som because Daddy Feen reaaally wants a grandchild.
Fucking Curufin reaffirms her opinion that the sons of feanor have absolutely zero redeeming qualities. Curufin’s only redeeming quality is that he’s snarky and mean and she kinda likes it after thinking about it for a while
Brimby is born.
Curufin: we must name him Feanaro in honor of- her: you will NOT name our son feanaro or so help me manwe
As compromise, brimby is named curufinwe but she got to name him tyelperinquar. <3
She didn’t do much of the child raising thing at all outside of breastfeeding because baby shit and piss is gross and Curufin agrees on that, so they mutually dump the responsibility on servants. She goes to mingle with her girl friends.
Brimby grows up, she gets along with Curufin just a little more because he is also annoying about linguistics. They complain about his brothers together. Curufin has a lot of drama and gossip that she shares with her girl space friends.
The thing with Fingolfin happens. She reluctantly goes with the fam to Formenos, mostly for Celebrimbor’s sake.
Unfortunately the first kinslaying thing happens. Perfect time to finally ditch the royal fuckheads once and for all. And the rest is history.

I love this because it makes an incredible amount of sense that the lady who canonically married into the House of Feanor is batshit insane. Like, stubbornness to an unholy degree.
The one who didn't go together
Of the sons of Fëanor, the one who is most certain to have married is Curufin. Celebrimbor is proof. And they did not go together. Like Nerdanel. The one Curufin who most resembled Fëanor chose made a similar choice to Nerdanel. That's interesting. And this one is crazy enough to marry Curufin, and Curufin and Celebrimbor are stubborn. And while Nerdanel is described as being wise and self-controlled, this one…the lack of description is a perfect alibi for the imagination. This one could be completely wild. I often imagine that this one not only did not go, but that she went to great lengths to keep his son and husband from going with his crazy father-in-law. Celebrimbor was probably still a minor at the time, since he did not swear an oath. And Curufin would never leave his only son behind. Fëanor would never want his only grandson taken away. And this one would never want his husband and son taken away. The summary of what happens when you can really use the word absolute to mean absolute: a terrible fight between a married couple. There is not enough time to open the door to divorce and custody disputes in Eldar for the first time. The husband talked that she will follow him immediately or she will never see him again. She knows that her husband is confident in his ability to speak well. The only thing that makes her not inferior to her husband is her stubbornness. So she tells him to convince him one last time, and then she takes out a glass. Then she pours the sleeping pill she prepared in advance. You said there is no time? The damned father-in-law has to hurry, so if his son and his grandson don't show up on time, he will have to leave them behind. He won't be able to find them openly. He can't show his most loyal son that he is skeptical of the cause before it even starts! (Or she can just hit her husband's head with a frying pan.) Curufin is horrified to see his son snoring next to him, tied up tightly. He doesn't get surprised because he already guessed that he was tied up too. But the crazy father-in-law is also crazy… In fact, everyone knows Curufin and his wife's temper, so when Curufin is out of sight, the rest of the Feanorians attack. Everyone knew she would do something like that… In the end, her husband and son leave, leaving her wailing. Fëanor goes on a rampage, but in the end, everyone's morale and Celebrimbor and Curufin stop him, so he gives up on punishing her. The other Fëanorians also keep quiet, and everyone just knows that she did not go with them. From this, we can guess that her occupation is an apothecary. If she were not an apothecary, someone would have noticed while procuring sleeping potions…

@tar-thelien asked for more information on my version of Celebrimbor's mother, Moripilin, so here it is:
Moripilin is a Noldor craftsman who specializes in making arrows
From a young age, she proved very ambitious, and found the peace and stagnation of Valinor nearly unbearable
Naturally, she started to idolize Feanor, who seemed to be one of the few elves in Valinor who insisted on constantly pushing forward and aspiring to greater heights
When she started making arrows for Orome's hunt, she made a conscious effort to get closer to Celegorm, and the two became decent friends, which is how she first met Curufin
I say this with complete sincerity: Curufin's prickliness and general cringefail aura absolutely besotted her
It was not quite love at first sight but it was pretty close
She's normally pretty confident, but it took her a while to work up the courage to ask to court him (in very traditional Noldor style, of course)
She's also about the only person who can make Curufin blush
Their shared love language is drawing blueprints for deadly weapons while cuddling <3
She and Celegorm are the proud founders of the Curufin defense squad
Feanor thinks of her as a daughter and was very pleased with her and Curufin's marriage; even more so when Celebrimbor happened
While she's very much Celebrimbor's mother (and yes, she's the one who named him Curufinwe, not Curufin) in every way that matters, people actually aren't sure if she's his biological mom
Look half of Valinor is convinced that Celebrimbor happened via mitosis– he looks almost exactly like Feanor and Curufin and there was no evidence that Moripilin was ever carrying a child
Moripilin is very focused on the idea of progress, and on the deep importance of craft– both of these lead her to see the Silmarils as incredibly important, and fully worth kinslaying for
The Teleri were just in the way– she wishes violence hadn't been necessary, but she doesn't exactly regret it
She was, however, against the burning of the ships, and rather than helping, spent that night comforting little Celebrimbor, who was grieving and frightened because of everything that had happened since Finwe's death
That said, let's be clear, she was not a moderating influence on Curufin– she was basically the opposite
She loved the freedom and constant change of Middle-Earth, and often went on long hikes with Curufin, looking for metal deposits or new inspiration
Curufin made the Feanorians' sword, Moripilin their arrows, and no elves in Middle-Earth could've claimed to be better armed
She was severly wounded during the Nirnaeth– at first, it looked like she would recover, but after a few days, she started to decline, and eventually died
While she didn't swear the Oath of Feanor when Curufin did, she insisted on swearing before she died, because she needed to know that her and her husband would share their fates, even in death
Losing her did bad things to Curufin, and to a lesser extent, Celegorm
C&C actively pushed Celebrimbor away in Nargathrond, and part of that was because they didn't want him to die or swear the Oath like Moripilin had

honestly even if he is a pretty bad person in the silm i want more curufin content. like this is a guy who grew up with 'everyone sees me as a copy of my father and nothing else' syndrome. he was the son of his father, and the father of his son. thats got to be rough.
and with the oath and the many spirals of bad decisions, he is definetly not the paragon of goodness, but ultimately he is a person who was once loved, by a wife and son and brothers and parents and so i refuse to believe he is completely irredeemable in spirit.
its also interesting to me that he is the middle link between the creator of the silmarils and the creator of the rings of power, its quite sad, for a person literally named little father, and also even sharing a fathername with his father, that he has nothing to show for himself with his own craft is pretty tragic honestly.
#yes i know hes a terrible person#but with my elder sibling tinted glasses the pressure of living up to his father as his favourite child and mirror image must have sucked#especially when his son becomes his better essentially probably in his eyes#but he had a wife and as far as we know tolkien elves marry for love. i believe celebrimbor probably had a good childhood#because unless im forgetting i dont remember celebrimbor being paralleled to his father but instead feanor right?#might be thinking too much tho#but its tragic feanor probably was paying curufin a high compliment in his eyes with the name and favour#but instead he was erasing his sons identity wasnt he.#curufins names being either same as father or little father or skilled or crafty is sad honestly#because again he was loved. and i would assume from celebrimbors lovely perosnality meaning he had a relatively happy childhood#im auorised curufin has become my 2nd favourite silm charcater tbh. behind maedhros bc hes also big elder sibling energy and i relate#also curufin is probably bitchy and thats fun. and scheming and intelligent and creative so hes cool#anyways#curufin#curufinwe#feanor#celebrimbor#telperinquar#tyelperinquar#tyelpe#silmarillion#ace rambles

today's random headcanon: elf babies very rarely have cradles because they almost always have caretakers around to hold them while they sleep, either in their arms or in a sling or on their backs etc., especially since adult elves need significantly less sleep than an adult human
#baby celebrimbor didn't get set down much at all#curufin had to enforce a rota so that he and his wife could get a turn with their baby

When feanor got with Nerdanel almost as soon as they were of age, Finwe silently thanked eru that he had not inherited Miriel’s obliviousness. But, well.... that’s only because of nerdanel.
Nerdanel, pinning feanor to the wall bc she’s sick and tired of how he’s interested in her but not noticing she’s interest in him: we’re going on a date tonight.
Feanor, pinned to the wall, wide eyed, unbelieving that she likes him like he likes her: O-ok.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Unfortunatly, feanor’s kids did inherit the oblivious gene to the max.
Fingon: maedhros, you are the most beatiful, most amazing elf i’ve ever met.
Maedhros: thank you cousin!
Fingon: what i mean to say is, you are very attractive and any elf that marries you would be blessed by eru himself.
Maedhros: *chuckles* thank you for the compliments, fingon! You’re pretty amazing yourself.
Fingon: Maedhros, i don’t think you understand me! I Love You!
Maedhros: i love you too, fingon! You’re my best friend!
Fingon: *internal screaming* *muffled screeching*
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Curufin’s to-be-wife, a jeweler: what do you think of these gems? I found them when i was traveling.
Curufin: yes, they are rather exquisite. What do you plan to do with them.
Curufin’s to-be-wife: i think these jewels would compliment your eyes. Maybe i’ll make a necklace for you.
Curufin: nonsense, these jewels would do better being displayed by the one who found them.
Curufin’s to-be-wife: but i’d rather give them to someone i like.
Curufin: then give them to that person. Maybe as a courting gift.
Curufin’s to-be-wife:...
*later*
Curufin’s to-be-wife, bursting through the door: Nerdanel, how do i-
Nerdanel, not looking up from where she’s working: pin him to the wall and ask him out. They won’t get a clue otherwise.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Haleth: *flirting with caranthir*
Caranthir: *not getting the clue, though he’s obviously insterested in her*
Haleth: *sigh* *dips him* *kisses him*
Caranthir: *so red it makes a tomato jealous*
(I happily reject maglor having a wife, canon be da**ed.)
The Curse of Thranduil’s Family (aka being emotionally compromised/stunted when it comes to themselves)
Oropher: Claudryad, i love you deeper than the ocean, further than the stars can reach. I am so happy to have been able to spend the past 300 years having a family and two adorable children with you. Happy 300th anniversary, love!
Cloudryad (thranduil and miriel’s mom) who did not realize that, despite kissing, living with, and raising two kids together (which she gave birth to), Oropher loved her or that they were married: ??????
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Finwe: Miriel, from the first moment i met you, i have held affection for you, and as i grew, that affection grew into love. I have traveled the seas to find a safe space for us to live in order to be worthy of your love. Please, may i have the honor of marrying you?
Miriel, completely oblivious to the years of devotion finwe had for her, thinking he was just being nice: ?????
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gil-galad, finrod, and every other elf that thranduil’s (read user name) been with (most notably the ones he had kids with): thranduil, i know you are not one for relationships, and i know that you will always put your people first, but please, accept my love. Even if you do not, know that it will always be with you.
Thranduil, unable to differentiate between friendship and romantic interest: ????? What-
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Elladan and elrohir: Legolas, we’ve been interested in you from the day we met and you slew a spider nest to save us. It has been millennia since then and, now that sauron is gone, we wish to court you properly.
Legolas, who thought all the times the twins were making moves on him/flirting with him were just them being friendly: *blue screen of death* wha-?!? SINCE WHEN-
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bonus:
Oropher, reacting to his descendants’ obliviousness to love: oh my god, oF ALL THE THINGS TO INHERIT FROM CLOUDRYAD-
the Silm has not enough of women making bad decisions.
(One cursed Niniel, one ambiguous Galadriel, and one Numenorean queen with cats) (Marrying a guy that turns out to be evil or stupid isn't enough of a bad decision. there should be like... Bedchel test for evil / bad decisions. Is she evil in a way not related to a guy she's in love with?)
So I propose:
Maglor's and Curufin's wives were full on board with the Oath & kinslayings
And other wives of Feanorians, if you assume there were any.
To make it make sense:
Maglor married later than his brothers, shortly before the Darkening. Or he wasn't even married, just dating, but she followed him and they married on the ship. She was a warrior and was more effective in Alqualonde than Maglor (he still was effective, don't get me wrong).
She was one of the elves accompanying Maedhros to the negotiations and Maglor had been extremely relieved that she died, and not ended up like his brother, He hated himself for this.
Curufin's wife... She made awesome swords. She left him at the Luthien situation, similar to Huan leaving Celegorm. But she looked too Noldo and got shot by some random Doriath elf before she could explain herself. (The Doom of the Noldor works!)
(Disclaimer: I'm bad with C&C&C lore, so this may not make sense)
Also, if you want to make it more pointed:
Furious that they were not invited to the original swearing of the Oath, they swore later, together. (They invited Galadriel, but she refused in very impolite words).
Depending on how sadistic you feel, they either swore verbatim the same words as their husbands&co, or a more reasonable version of it. (without the blasphemy and more focused on supporting their family? And actually reclaiming the gems?)
Okay so quick question because I am up with a sore throat when I should be sleeping (it's nearly 3am).
No "see results" option, I want your opinion! Please elaborate in the tags I wanna hear about your ideas!
Here's my take: I imagine his mom to be a Teler, specifically the daughter of one of Curufins former teachers - both to add one more parallel to Fëanor who also married the daughter of his teacher AND to add more tragedy to the entire story because it's her people that are killed first.
“Naurind the Formidable was a Noldor elf, the only (bastard) daughter of Celebrimbor, a legendary warrior (forgotten artist) who fought in the Second Age against Sauron and an essential part of the Last Alliance. She died in the Siege of Barad-dûr from her wounds, after defeating Sauron with the help of Elendil. She was the only daughter born into the House of Fëanor, and is remembered for negotiating and obtaining the redemption of her house at the hands of Mandos. Then she refused to leave the Halls for the rest of eternity, because her sword, as legendary as she, Lumnasell, could never see the light of Valinor, because its creation was too dark and dangerous for the Undying Lands.”
