Finally got caught up on that funky Bravern show the other day and omg. It's so much fun. Have some scribblin' More yelling under the cut (and also mild spoiler alert if you haven't seen any of it:)

Loved seeing more of the other Deathdrives, even if they were kinda short-lived on-screen and all (guess that's what happens when a buncha story stuff needs to get compressed into just 12 episodes)

I'm enjoying the hell out of this silly show it's fucking BUCKWILD. I can't remember the last show that made me laugh this much I am just constantly chimpanzee screaming at the screen Wasn't super sure at first because I was a bit "???" about where this was going in the first few eps but oh my god. It's def become a fav now. It's for sure meant to be a parody of itself/commentary on the entire mecha anime genre and all the tropes that it's loaded with but then the story actually gets interesting too. The TWISTS. IDK it just seems like they had so much fun making this Also, sentient robot characters yippee! (That stuff just seems to be super rare, I've always kinda wondered why, but it's like the mecha genre is allergic to the concept unless you go full into Transformers territory (which is its own whole thing at that point.) Like idk maybe I'm the weird one for loving that idea, but I do wish more of that existed outside of the context of parody or "for little kids" or whatever. Anyway I'll take whatever I can get on that front. I'm adopting all of these idiots) Cupiridas is my fav, Extremely Silly Guy. Kunus (Cunus?) is completely off her shits but I actually love that super wingy design. Pessimism has some really cool silhouette nonsense going on, can def approve of straying from the usual humanoid look. I could throw in some sketches of the main mechs (Bravern, Superbia) but they already get most of the fan art, so I wanted to doodle some of the others..

Just to clear things up since I've seen some eng bravern fans confused about whether or not Cupiridas's name is supposed to be spelled Cupiditas or not, his name *is* actually Cupiridas! (クピリダス)

They likely misspelled the sin on purpose just to make it sound the way they wanted it to

Update on this post 3/5/2024: this may not entirely be accurate, my apologies. The website lists the English spelling as Cupiditas, but the Japanese katakana indicate that it's pronounced as Cupiridas, and the characters in the show also pronounce it as Cupiridas, not Cupiditas. I'm not entirely sure how that works, but it's just the way it is.

From ep 2- we actually got a shot of superbia inserting the capsule (you can see his nail!), which charged him, and got launched away after he was defeated. I assume he didn't use her full energy because she survived, unlike the poor lulu from cupiridas :(

Edit: important to note that even (seemingly) after superbia used lulu, she's still inhumanly strong after lewis woke her up so i think i can see why they used humans as energy + she could still survive

Something else i realised is superbia's mechanical noises before he could speak is really ga-ga-pi, same with what our Lulu said when she first woke up. This makes me wonder if she could hear him? Weren't they supposed to be unconscious? 😨

Bravern episode 8 preview spoilers

New Death Drive with what looks like the same distinctive arm silhouette, long horizontal spikes in the same place as the head wings, and similar ears/horns on the side of the head. Also note the skirt; in the video (youtube link here) it definitely looks like it has feathers.

I could believe this guy is the same figure all on its own, but we do also get two more robots:

This one has feathered wings.

This guy doesn't have an obvious visual connection, but the halo is a little similar. It's certainly alarming that there are three of them.

Smith also wears the Tokusatsu shirt from his falling sequence in the OP during the preview.

Conclusion: message to all bitches: please survive

I wonder what sins these guys are named after? After seeing Cupiridas, it's clearly not as straightforward as "obviously the pink one is lust." Still could be, though.

I'm curious whether or not they're all going to have male VAs...

Theory:

What if that's not what the DeathDrive's names are? What if Bravern just gives them names to make them seem more evil and menacing?

Superbia? Cupiridas(most likely the actual spelling is Cupiditas)?

Those are all Latin words for the Seven Deadly sins.

So what if they all don't actually have names? Why would they name themselves Earth concepts? They never actually introduce themselves(from what I remember), and it's always Bravern saying who they are.

Instead, I propose this.

Bravern created all the DeathDrives and their towers are like giant 3D printers that specifically makes that type of DeathDrive while also making a Lulu. We know he has a 3D printer but the questions is, How did he build a 3D Printer? We see it in Bravern's room on the Aircraft carrier. But we never see him build it or anyone else.

And in the episode, we also see Bravern making things like a Model kit would be made. So what if all Deathdrives are built like giant model kits in their Towers? That's probably a Stretch but it could also be canon who knows?

And now we need to talk about the amount of towers left. They said 6 more. Why 6? Wasn't Superbia's tower destroyed? Shouldn't there be 5 if they're based on the 7 Deadly sins? That's my first thought. But then I made this theory. The last Tower Belongs to Bravern.

And where is the last Tower?

It's the Tower from Outer space! The Ship itself!

We've never touched upon what the Ship that transported those towers could be. We've been very focused on the Towers we've never talked about the source. Bravern has never touched upon the main ship itself but rather keeps saying to destroy the towers and all of Mankind will be safe. It made us forget that the ship is still up there in space.

I know there are theories for Bravern to be a DeathDrive, but what if he is the Creator of the Deathdrives? Hence why he knows them. Both personally and literally.

in case people weren't aware, every time a deathdrive died the cygames youtube account uploaded a short ~Memories of Deathdrives~ video in the style of like, a funeral memorial video, where the deathdrive in question talks a little about themself and how they died.
