Egg Fried Rice: My Surprising Take!
Egg Fried Rice: My Surprising Take! 🍚🤯 https://ift.tt/GZRdmgz https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8uyozdJ1sc After indulging in some amazing dishes at Buddha Bar, I was excited to try the egg fried rice. Visually, it looked great, but taste-wise… well, as a Nigerian who loves cooking, I think I could make a better version myself! Not bad, but definitely not the standout of the meal. VEGETABLE CHOP This vegetarian delight is one of famous chai time snack in West Bengal, part of their Tele Bhaja culture with Gorom Cha.. This popular street food is one of the major pillars in Bengal food culture. The Chop-Cutlet culture of Bengal was on its high from the British Era. Meat being breaded and deep fried was very popular in the European Countries and as far as history goes, the French word CÔTELLETE was used for the first time in 1682, and then came the word CROQUETTE whose shape and size resembled the Indian Variety chops. According to one of the old Anglo Indian cook books in Cambridge, Henrietta A Hervey made mutton chops in Bareilly Army Club in 1894 which travelled to Bengal club and then cheaper versions were made with potatoes and beet roots, and also meet the vegetarian needs. As far as my memory goes, I used to savour it during Durga Pujas in Kolkata and then it became my regular favourite affair while going to tuition classes after school. When ever I travel to Kolkata, I make sure that I have it from all my favourite shops. Foodie Tip: Always couple it with Cha or Shikanji.. (both served in earthen pots)..there’s no other way!! DM me if you wanna know the recipe To know more about beautiful food creation around the world & their cultural history do follow me at : @priyankafoodfuntravel @priyankafoodfuntravel #vegetablechop #streetfood #kolkatastreetfood #vegeterian #foodhistory #indianfoodculture #culinaryculture #homemade #desisnacks (at RBD Stillwaters) https://www.instagram.com/p/CC_XZ-4lL3z/?igshid=ki3ummql5ry2

A taste of the South . . . I’ve always heard great things about this restaurant in Leamington called Kayal, but I’ve never had a chance to sample their cuisine myself. Known for their South Indian staples, Kayal is known to be one of the best Indian restaurants in Leamington Spa. I’ve been wanting to try it out for ages, but I didn’t get the chance to do so until yesterday. Boy, was it worth the wait. . . . This was the first time I’ve had a dosa in the UK. In case you’re wondering what a dosa is, it is a traditional South Indian dish which consists of a thin pancake made from a batter of fermented rice flour, which is often wrapped around a filling of potatoes flavoured with spices and oils. This is a staple for any South Indian restaurant; it can easily serve as a parameter of judgement for them. It is very easy to get a dosa wrong, but the chefs at Kayal gave us nothing but perfection. A crisp and crunchy texture perfectly juxtaposed with the creaminess of the masala (potatoes) shrouded within, which was complimented by the flavourful sambar served on the side. The potato fritters we ordered were also really good; they reminded me of the classic pakoda you get in Mumbai, meant to be enjoyed with Vada pav and a cup of chai. Bliss 😌 . . . If you’re ever in Leamington Spa, don’t miss on the opportunity to sample some delightful South Indian cuisine at Kayal; I’m sure you won’t regret it. . . . Hope you have a superb Saturday! Take care of yourselves and your loved ones, and take the time to chill and relax this weekend! Have a good one ❤️ - #thinkingoutloud #writing #blogger #blog #writersofinstagram #writer #kayal #southindiancuisine #delicious #culinaryculture #wow #yum #live #love #life #eat #leamingtonspa #leamington #royalleamingtonspa #university #unilife #warwick #universityofwarwick #reflection #pictures #pictureperfect #think (at Kayal) https://www.instagram.com/p/B83XyXXFmYf/?igshid=13qin32ristya

Hanoi Banh Xeo - A Distinctive Flavor of the Capital
Banh xeo is a popular dish in Vietnamese cuisine, with each region having its own unique way of preparation. Hanoi banh xeo has a distinct flavor, with a crispy crust, flavorful filling, and sweet and sour dipping sauce.
Key features of Hanoi banh xeo:
Crust: Usually thinner than southern-style banh xeo, crispy and golden brown.
Filling: Diverse and rich, with a combination of ingredients such as shrimp, pork belly, bean sprouts, mushrooms...
Dipping sauce: Has a characteristic sweet and sour taste, made from fish sauce, sugar, garlic, chili, and other spices.
Eating style: Hanoi banh xeo is often eaten with various types of fresh vegetables like lettuce, herbs, bean sprouts, and rice paper.
Food culture:
Hanoi banh xeo is not only a delicious dish but also an integral part of Hanoi's food culture. Enjoying a plate of banh xeo together is an opportunity for people to gather, chat, and enjoy cozy moments.

Mercado Central - Pemba
Pemba, my absolute favorite city in the province of Cabo Delgado, but also the most expensive! It's not easy having expensive taste but every once in a while you can find great things at very low prices…if you know where to look. Such is the amazing Mozambican food at Mercado Central in the baixa (downtown) area of Pemba. It's easy to get to and you can see & experience the liveliness of a northern bazaar (market). Amongst all the capulana, calamidades & electronic lojas there is a part of the market strictly for food, a kind of food court of sorts brimming with cultural charisma rather than capitalist attempts of immitation. This area isn't huge but it fits about 5 to 6 different little kiosk type restaurants that all pretty much serve the same menu. This Mozambican medley consists of white rice, matapa (similar to collard greens), beans, salad & your choice of fried fish, grilled chicken, fried squid or stewed beef. Sharing is a big thing in Mozambican culture, up here in the Northern provinces mostly everything is shared... And I mean everything... But food is what is shared the most! In most small food kiosks the option of sharing a big plate of food is very common & you'll see most Mozambicans do it since it comes out to be the cheapest option. One large plate for two people is about 250 mtz and a solo plate comes out to 150 mtz. Now the prices are very low but the food per serving size is not for the faint of heart. In Mozambican culture eating small portions is weird to be honest; the idea of dieting isn't really a thing. This makes sense when you consider how much a normal day for an average Mozambican is filled with such extreme physical activities; being a very agriculturally predominant country. En fin, if you're looking for a cheap yet delicious food coma come to Mercado Central & if you're lucky, as I was today, you'll even be able to find a perfectly ripe avocado to accompany your meal! It's the small stuff that counts, happy eating! :D

Pavlova? An unexpected origin!
Do not refer to the name to get its origin! #culinaryculture #pavlova
Over the weekend, I prepared a pavlova with mixed berries (I tried with raspberries and blueberries). For the ones who love meringue, this is the ideal dessert. But you have to be very patient as you need at least 4 hours of preparation (to cook a large meringue, it takes approximately 2 hours and 30 mins…) Pix from Cookidoo.fr But do you know what is the origin of the Pavolva? Without doing…
