Good Omens season 3/finale thought of the day:
Crowley putting his glasses back on in the final 15 was such a significant moment, as they essentially symbolised a barrier between him and Aziraphale. Like he was closing off his heart. Which makes me wonder why Crowley started wearing glasses in the first place, and whether that story will be a significant character beat for him in the finale.
I think we all headcanon that it was to blend in better with humans. That after the age of miracles passed and the age of suspicion and witchcraft and fear of the devil set in he probably did it as a cautionary measure to not draw unnecessary attention to himself. But what if the first reason was because he scared a child? We all headcanon Crowley’s fondness for and caring of children. What if he was just trying to be kind and his eyes scared a child to death? That they ran horrified and screaming from him? What if Crowley didn’t think he had a heart to break after the Fall, and he realised in this moment that he still did?

It is a truth universally acknowledged among the Good Omens fandom, that Crowley cannot see the stars.
I’m currently writing a fic chapter exploring Aziraphale’s love for Crowley’s eyes through the ages, and have been musing on options for a scene set around S1. I went to sleep last night thinking about the body swap and its potential for Aziraphale seeing things through Crowley’s eyes, those eyes that he loves so much.
And then I woke up, and cannot move on from the thought of the opposite… Crowley seeing the world through Aziraphale’s eyes… can he… can he see his stars? And now I’m sobbing on my sofa over breakfast because I think he must, mustn’t he?
Aziraphale will see how much the shine and sparkle is taken from the world as Crowley sees it through those snake eyes, and Crowley will look up through Aziraphale’s eyes and for the first time in millennia actually see the stars he made.
That ‘screaming, crying, throwing up’ phrase? Yeah, that… but I think I’ve found the emotional centre of my chapter. Just when I think these two have broken me enough…

Crowley’s eyes during the Confession weren’t full snakey because there wasn’t anything demonic or miraculous or tempting about that moment. He was saying (and meaning) the words in as human a way as possible.

just thinking about how the paint color for the yellow walls of aziraphale’s back room is called va vavoom
and how those walls are exactly the same color as crowley’s eyes
and how by the transitive property of… paint colors i guess? crowley’s eye color isn’t just yellow, it’s va vavoom yellow

More niggling bits: things I missed in Season 2 that were in Season 1.
The lovely outdoor locations, like the “Oxford” aerial shots, Jasmine Cottage, The Them outdoors. S1 had a much more expansive feel; S2 by comparison is almost claustrophobic. Also is Soho really constantly crawling with that many people? Probably just my enochlophobia kicking up.
The demons in Hell didn’t really display their alternate aspects, like Hastur’s toad. I was really looking forward to Furfur’s deer. Overall they seemed…lackluster.
But most of all—the way Crowley’s eyes blew up when he became emotional. Since he spent so much more time with his glasses off, maybe the CGI was just too expensive; but when he was speaking angrily to Gabriel/Jim & OMD that final scene/EVERY…they should’ve been fully gorgeously yellow.

ohhhhhh I truly cannot get over the EVIL GENIUS of having crowley make a point of immediately taking his sunglasses off every time he's in the bookshop or alone with aziraphale this season, showing just how comfortable he's become showing his emotions and his vulnerability to aziraphale since season 1, opening himself up completely at every opportunity, showing us a side of him that's remained almost entirely hidden for millennia, only for him to silently and purposefully put his sunglasses back on immediately once aziraphale rejects his love confession. like, bravo gaiman, I saw what you did there and I'm never going to fucking recover from it. well done

David Tennant: There are certain obstacles in playing Crowley. Obviously I'm wearing contact lenses most of the time. But, you know, that's a small price to pay for a character that is... is so delicious, really. And gets to wear these ludicrous outfits, that I would never dare to wear in real life, but clearly part of me would quite like to, I think. (video)
