Yoko Takahash
高橋 洋子 is a Japanese singer, composer and songwriter who creates popular music, jazz and anisong.
Music has accompanied her throughout her life. She began her adventure at the age of two, learning to play the piano from her father. While in elementary school, she attended the Takinogawa choir. At the age of 10, she participated in an album depicting the works of Osamu Tezuka. In high school she was a member of a band. At university, she was active in a music club and aspired to become an opera singer. Together with members of the music club, she founded the band Yau Power. In 1986, the band participated in the first CSPC , a competition organized by Kitty Records, and won a prize. In 1987, she won an audition for the choral group "LOVE MACHINE," which supported Toshinobu Kubota's "Groovin'" tour.
Before her major label debut, she performed as a chorus singer who accompanied artists such as Toshinobu Kubota, Yumi Matsutoyi, Wink, Miki Imai and Yuki Saito. During this period, she began working on her career as a singer. As a studio musician, she created music for commercials and soundtracks.
In 1991, she made her debut as a ballad singer with the song "P.S. I miss you."
In 1992, she won the 34th Japan Record Award for Best Newcomer for her song "Once more I miss you." That same year, she also won the Rookie of the Year Award at the 25th Japan Cable Awards for her song "P.S. I miss you."
In 1995, she studied music in Los Angeles, USA. After returning to Japan, she teamed up with Toshiyuki Omori, who decided to participate in a cover project of the theme song "Fly Me to the Moon" for Neon Genesis Evangelion. Thanks to the suggestion of Toshimichi Ohtsuki (King Records), she sang the song "Cruel Angel's Thesis."
Her voice will be heard not only in the Evangelion series, but also in "Ranma 1/2" (where she created under the pseudonymYAWMIN) and "All-powerful Culture Catgirls" ( YAUMIN).
In 2000, she became an freelancer. In the meantime, she worked as a caregiver. The artist recalls this time as a period when she withdrew from the entertainment industry. However, she did not completely suspend her entertainment activities. When invited, she appeared on television, recorded and performed live.

Cross Ange (It’s a pun?!)
So that was Cross Ange. I don’t know what I expected, but it wasn’t that.
Narratively, it was horrible. So many things don’t make sense when you start to think about them, especially the one fakeout, you know the one. Also, why did Hilda have a “I won’t be controlled by anyone” line in the finale when she was one of the very few characters that had nothing to do with Embyro herself? (Give her a line about Chris, or Ange!)
Probably the worst part was the villain who really gets around, Embryo. Now, I’m repelled by, but not completely against, horrible horrible villains. This is because often they aren’t relatable in the slightest; you can’t understand their motivations, and if they bluntly say their motivations, you can’t empathize with them. This leaves him to be a punching bag, you want him to suffer, which the show delivers (most notably with Tusk outplay-boy-ing him). The only way to make these characters somewhat human is to give them a moment of reflection before their end and, well... Embryo doesn’t reflect. Note that such a reflection would not have changed Embyro’s status as a punching bag when he needed to be a punching bag. Maybe he could have had a slow breakdown after Tusk’s “I fucked your wife shitlips” moment, resulting in a reflection that comes too late. Or maybe he could have just had a halfassed “Oh” as he was obliterated.
The worst part about Embyro is that using sexual violence to show a villain is horrible is, well, kinda lazy (and unappealing to the eye, to say the least). The best part about Embyro are the ways he asserts control over others that don’t involve any of that. He sees insecurities and exploits them, providing people with what they need (even if in reality they had it all along, but I digress), making him look marginally smarter (he’s an idiot half the time,) and the writers look a little less lazy. I just wish we could have actually seen him interact with the sister princess, like, once? So that we see a controlling mastermind instead of a failed harem protagonist, and maybe learn something about a character the show does nothing with. What are we even supposed to take away from her scene, the last scene on false earth? “Fight to survive, AKA war is good (by a stretch of logic)?”
The good news is that the show gets a lot better when you don’t try to think about it. The humor is there, there are some good characters with Tusk and Vivian, the Mail Suits look beautiful (though I wish there was more variety between them, at least in color scheme during the second half of the show), and not thinking allows you to ignore the fanservice, fandisservice, and half the cast flip-flopping every 5 episodes.
Ange herself is, well, not the best, but above the norm. Her strength and weakness is that she “does not want to be used,” or is strongwilled and independent to a fault. This allows her to resist everyone (Jill’s bad plan, Embyro in general) but keeps her from readily forming the bonds and alliances she needs to make to win in the end. So, narratively, she checks out. Well, except for the fact that Coco and friend still didn’t have to die and were never brought up again. But I digress. As a character, as a person, she’s enjoyable to watch (most of the time, fanservice, you know) and we both want to see her win (she’s been through crap) and grow as a person (at the start of the show, she definitely has some growing up to do).
I’ll end this with a loose end that the show barely ties. What about the dumb ex-mana using humans? Like, I mentioned this before, but all we see is the city in ruins and miss sister fighting to survive. Are we supposed to learn anything from them, or are they just narrative fodder like Coco? ...I’m thinking too much about this show again.
