Craniofacial Surgery Can Correct Head Deformities in Babies!
You might have seen a baby with a deformed head, which, if untreated for a long time, can cause some serious medical issues, and the baby might have to deal with many issues once he grows. Craniofacial Surgery Can Correct Head Deformities in Babies!
Preferred head position: You might have noticed that some babies like to sleep in a particular position and usually stay in that position. To some extent, it is fine, but sometimes it can cause the head to deform.
Twin or triplet: When a mother has twins or triplets in her womb, there is less space for the fetus to move around. This cramped-up situation makes the head deformed.
Prematurity: When a baby's born, it lies on their backs most of the time; this can cause the head to have an irregular shape.
Birth complications: At the time of birth, the mother, as well as the infant, has to go through a lot of stress which sometimes leads to birth complications. These complications lead to a deformed head.
Can a Deformed Head Lead To Complications In The Future?
When the fibrous joints between the bones of the skull (called cranial sutures) of an infant close prematurely, it causes the head to deform and take an irregular shape. As a result, the infant develops an abnormally shaped skull because the bones generally do not expand with the growth of the brain. Dr. Manoj says, "In most cases, these deformities don't cause any problems in the future. But there are two things to keep in mind. First; few cases have been seen where the skull's growth was restricted enough, which increased the pressure in the head, causing headaches, visual problems, and developmental delays. Secondly; aesthetically speaking, they might not look normal; it can psychologically affect the teenage years and adult life."

Exploring the Latest Advances in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
If you are interested in becoming a plastic surgeon and want to heal and rebuild someone’s appearance using the latest tools and technologies, you must be aware of the exciting advances that have taken place in recent years.
Let's look at all these fascinating advancements in this blog post.
Exciting advances in the field of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
Microsurgery and Myocutaneous Flaps:
Microsurgery is a type of surgery that is done on extremely small structures which cannot be seen even with the naked eye. Because of this surgery, the transfer of small blood vessels and nerves along with skin and muscle, known as myocutaneous flaps for complex reconstructions, becomes easy.
This advancement can help breast cancer patients regain their confidence and achieve more natural-looking results.
2. Use of 3D printing in Craniofacial surgery:
Did you know that using 3D imaging and printing, surgeons can easily perform craniofacial surgery by making a detailed model? This detailed model allows them to outline a patient’s skull and guide them before they actually perform the surgery.
This technology is in trend because it allows surgeons to plan the whole surgery in advance and also make custom implants to improve their facial reconstruction.
3. Trend of Non invasive plastic surgery:
When talking about the advances of plastic and reconstructive surgery, how can we forget about minimally invasive surgery?
Well, when you want the patients to heal faster, improve their recovery time and do not want them to live with an embarrassing scar on their body or face, using minimally invasive plastic surgery is the right option.
4. Use of technology in Plastic surgery:
Technology like Virtual Reality (VR) is helping doctors practice surgeries before they perform them on real patients. This helps them learn and improve without making any mistakes on the day of surgery.
When talking about the future of plastic surgery, there is a lot of scope for opportunities and possibilities that will help surgeons during complex procedures in a great way. Additional regenerative surgery also holds immense potential to regenerate tissues that help people with burned skin get new skin via skin graft.

Rating: Not Cute
Uke inbreeding to elicit certain "kawaii" traits commonly associated with the Uke breed can cause severe health complications. Here you can see an incredibly inbred Uke with smaller than normal nostrils, and likely a deviated septum. He will probably need craniofacial surgery in a few years, with possible euthanization as a result if the problem continues to exist.

okok i’m so sorry for bothering you through here but like first of all YAY so happy to see someone also obsessed with hannigram in brazil lmao just love it so much and am glad other people like it too
when answering you i thought about feijoada too but was like nah it’s not Meaty enough but like i bet he would find some way to make feijoada way meatier jsjsksjskskksjsksk
but anyway i’m so sorry for asking but i kind of have to ask about you writing hannibal in brazil 👀 if it’s smth you don’t feel like showing or never posted i’m very sorry for asking and feel free to not answer this!!! but if you would like to share know i’d love it so so so much
anyway you got me too excited about this topic skjsksksks thank you thank you thank you !!!!!!!!
It's not a bother at all, are you kidding, I could chat about novel references forever! I see you're Thomas Harris's arch nemesis and I'm Thomas Harris's #1 simp, so I guess that makes us mortal enemies, but I'm glad hannigram in Brazil can unite us. ^^
This might be wrong, but I read that feijoada was made with pig feet, snout, ears, etc (I think to make the broth?) back in the 16th century, and I got obsessed with the idea of Hannibal using the human analogs for those.
I never posted what I wrote anywhere bc it's kinda cringe and unedited lol. The premise was post-fall, Will needs facial reconstructive surgery for his stab wound, like how Hannibal got his sixth finger removed in Rio de Janeiro after he escaped prison. Here are some Brazil-related snippets!
A rewrite of the Marcus Hotel scene from Silence of the Lambs (except Will is actually getting plastic surgery haha):
The doors of the elegant Hotel Marco in Rio de Janeiro slid open and hit Hannibal with a gust of air conditioning. He wore comfortable white linen and a Panama hat. His hair was an ungodly shade of bottle blond. A neat surgical bandage covered his nose and cheeks. Soft piano music drifted from the lounge. At the bar, Hannibal could see two people with bandages across their noses. A middle-aged couple crossed to the elevator, humming a Jobim tune. The woman wore a gauze patch over one eye. “Boa tarde, Sr. Wyman,” the concierge greeted him as he passed the reception desk. Hannibal nodded to him before joining the couple in the elevator. He set his bag of groceries down in the kitchen of the penthouse suite. The suite seemed luxurious to him after his long confinement. He enjoyed running his hands over the cotton bed comforter and the stainless steel fridge. After sorting the groceries, he indulged in a long shower. From the window, he could see across the street the premier clinic for craniofacial surgery in Brazil, where Will had recently undergone maxillary reconstruction and received a four molar dental bridge.  This was the one place in the world where Hannibal could walk around with a bandage on his face without exciting interest, and he’d taken advantage of that to make his first foray into the public since their flight to Rio. A short walk to the convenience store less than one block away. Voices laughing in Portuguese, and the buttery scent of street wagon empadas and brigadieros. Life pressing sweetly on him from all sides.
And later:
Will looked at the bacon fat heating on the stove. He spoke in hesitant Spanish, knowing Hannibal wouldn’t respond to anything else. “What do we have here?” After weeks of communicating using pen and paper, Will had made a reluctant return to speech, unfamiliar now to his damaged hard palate. Add to this the strain of learning a new language—rolled Rs were particularly painful for his stitched tongue—and he was perfectly happy to stare at Hannibal in silence for days on end. Each word Will spoke aloud, Hannibal knew, was a gift. “Farofa for feijoada, a hearty black bean stew of regional significance. I’ve made it before, but this will be my first time using authentic Brazilian sausage.” He’d been looking forward to it but was in danger of losing concentration with Will this close. He smelled of blood—from the butcher most likely—and forest underneath it. “You’ve been to Tijuca National Park again.” “Lots of tourists there,” Will said, as if in explanation.
(They're not staying in Brazil--that's why Will's learning Spanish instead of Portuguese)
Anyway, feel free to correct anything I got wrong! I've never been to Rio so I have literally no idea what I'm doing.

A Different Man review – Adam Pearson shines in oddball Doppelganger parable
The Under the Skin actor is a standout in a story starring Sebastian Stan as a man whose appearance is transformed by surgery
Peter Bradshaw
Sat 17 Feb 2024
Writer-director Aaron Schimberg has created a diverting, if contrived, noir satire-parable about the faces we prepare to meet the faces that we meet. I’m not sure that, finally, it says as much as it thinks it’s saying, and I’m also not sure if the resemblance to early Woody Allen is intentional or not. But it is arresting and challenging with an exhilarating performance from Adam Pearson, from Jonathan Glazer’s Under the Skin, and whom Schimberg has in fact already directed in his previous feature Chained For Life.
The setting is a dark and dingy New York City, where Edward (Sebastian Stan) is a would-be actor with a craniofacial condition who so far has only got work in an instructional video for corporations about how to treat co-workers with craniofacial conditions. Poor Edward is shy and nervous (his neighbour says he’s like Woody Allen) and Reinate Reinsve has the Annie Hall role as Ingrid, the quirky-beautiful next-door neighbour who is kind to him.
When Edward has pioneering surgery transforming him into a conventionally handsome guy, his life is turned around and he passes himself off as someone else, but when he hears Ingrid is writing a play about their friendship, he insists on starring in it, wearing a mask of his old face. The arrival of Oswald (Adam Pearson) changes things: a dapper, witty, confident British guy with precisely the same (untransformed) facial condition who professes himself a massive fan of Ingrid’s creative process and has no interest in surgery. With his sheer confidence and happiness, Oswald becomes a doppelgänger threat to Edward.
The tangled oddity of the story makes as many demands on an audience’s attention and credulity as anything else on screen – although the way Schimberg’s film refuses the horror tropes that another might embrace is interesting. Pearson himself moves through the film with more unselfconscious lightness than any other character: he is allowed to be garrulous and effusive in a way absolutely denied to everyone else - and the effect is dreamlike and unreal but bold too. It’s a film whose tone and meaning can’t be nailed down.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians (Books) - Percy & Sally - Cleft Awareness Month Prompt 22 : Parent
Prompt : Write a fic from the perspective (this doesn't necessarily mean first-person POV but it can be that if you want) of a parent whose kid/teen/adult has a cleft lip and/or palate Headcanon : Percy has a cleft lip and palate
Sally knew before Percy was even born that the kid was going to have a hard time.
After all, he was a demigod. Poseidon had warned her about a lot of the problems he'd have- Bad luck, learning disabilities, attracting monsters. She accepted it all upfront. Plenty of kids had learning disabilities and, the other stuff? Well, they would deal with it when it came up.
What she hadn't been prepared for was a craniofacial deformity.
Percy was born with a cleft lip and palate, which she didn't know until the moment he was born and the doctors informed her. She was caught off guard, as Poseidon hadn't told her about this (he didn't know), but she loved her son no matter what, and she quickly began working double the amount to pay for his surgeries and speech therapy.
He was bullied in school, of course, and it hurt to see him come home from school crying so often because, on top of constantly getting in trouble for his attention issues or slowness or magical situations he had no real control over, the worst of his classmates teased and bullied him for his scarred lip and slight speech impediment.
It hurt, seeing her son wishing he was born looking normal or crying because a kid in his class said he was ugly and now he couldn't get that thought out of his head. She knew that he'd eventually probably need to go to Camp Half-Blood for safety reasons and she knew he'd likely find more acceptance there but, in the meantime, she was forced to watch her kid struggle because of something beyond his control.
"Those kids don't know what they're talking about" she told him after one particularly bad day at school. "You're not ugly. They're just insecure about how they look, so they're taking it out on you. And, you wanna know something?"
"What?" Percy asked, his voice wet from tears.
"I think you look better than all of them combined" she told him with a warm smile. That seemingly worked, as the boy broke out into a fit of giggles.
"You're so cheesy, mom"
"Better cheesy than a bully"
"I love you"
"I love you too, son"
Do not repost on other sites! If you want to participate in this month's challenge, there are 31 cleft-centered prompts that you can find here

I need more people to know that plastic surgery can and often is life saving medical care.
Plastic surgery is a surgical specialty involving the restoration, reconstruction or alteration of the human body. It can be divided into two main categories: reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery. Reconstructive surgery includes craniofacial surgery, hand surgery, microsurgery, and the treatment of burns.
Wikipedia
Almost every trans-affirming surgery falls under plastic surgery. Skin grafts for burn victims and skin diseases are plastic surgery. Bone reconstruction surgeries are plastic surgery. Many frowned upon plastic surgeries were created because of medical necessity.
When I was a kid and had a cyst too close to my brain, I had plastic surgery to remove it. When I had top surgery, it was done by a plastic surgeon. When I broke my face in three places, the suggested reconstructive procedure was plastic surgery.
Plastic surgery is a very good thing. When you get offered plastic surgery, it means we are so good at that surgery that we can not only treat it but minimize the treatment's impact on your life.

The Importance of a Systematic Review in Plastic Surgery
Systematic reviews are essential for assessing the quality of research in a specific area. They use rigorous scientific methods and minimize research bias by considering all the studies.
Planning involves defining robust pre-specified protocols and a PICO approach (population, intervention, comparison, and outcomes). It also requires a careful selection of studies.
Systematic reviews (SR) and meta-analyses are the most rigorous method of aggregating evidence. However, their quality could be improved by the reliability of primary studies and the method used to pool data.
To assess the overall quality of SRs published in three prominent plastic surgery journals between July 2019 and July 2020, we critically appraised their reporting standards using A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews (AMSTAR). We also investigated factors that influence the underlying methodology of these reports.
There must be a more significant gap between the quality of SRs in plastic surgery and other surgical specialities. Better education, awareness among all stakeholders and enforcement through journal submission systems could help to improve this.
Systematic reviews (SRs) address the shortcomings of traditional reviews by utilizing rigorous, reproducible methods and recommended guidelines. They are designed to eliminate sources of bias and ensure as complete a review of the existing literature as possible.
SRs are essential for clinical practice and ensuring that surgeons are informed about current standards of care and new technologies. However, their reliability and applicability can be undermined if they are not performed and reported correctly.
Therefore, this systematic review was conducted using the PRISMA guidelines. Articles were retrieved from the MEDLINE, EMBASE and Scopus databases using appropriate search terms and included only those studies that met the inclusion criteria.
The primary objective was to evaluate the quality of reporting in RCTs published in the Journal of Plastic Surgery. Fifty-seven articles were assessed for compliance with the CONSORT reporting guideline. The median score was 11.5 out of 23 items. The most common items where compliance was the poorest were intervention/comparator details, randomization implementation and blinding.
Despite the increasing importance of patient safety in all health research, only some studies about this subject consider the specificities of plastic surgery patients. These include the fact that they are generally female, healthy, and young.
The authors, therefore, conducted a systematic review in the Journal of Plastic Surgery to identify actions related to patient safety in this speciality. The literature was searched using MEDLINE and SCIELO databases between 2012-2018, totalling 15 articles.
The results showed that most SRs in this domain could be better formulated. They often employ spin, a form of reporting bias in which the results of studies are presented as overstating the efficacy or understating the harms of interventions. This is often a cause for concern, as it can result in clinical recommendations not being justified by the evidence.
A systematic review is a literature research method that collates and analyses empirical evidence to answer a specific research question. This type of review is also known as a meta-analysis.
The methodology used for a systematic review can be complex and requires careful planning to justify the conclusions reached. Systematic reviews typically address a structured research question and follow strict criteria to minimize bias.
The authors of the study evaluated a total of 1820 articles that met the inclusion criteria. Most studies included were in aesthetic and breast surgery (27%) or craniofacial surgery (23%).

Face reconstruction surgery has evolved into a life-changing medical solution that restores not only appearance but also function and confidence for individuals facing facial trauma or deformities. In Madurai, known for its healthcare advancements, Preethi Hospitals stands out as a trusted provider of comprehensive and compassionate care. This blog will delve into what face reconstruction surgery entails, its benefits, and why Preethi Hospitals in Madurai is an ideal choice for this transformative procedure.
What Is Face Reconstruction Surgery?
Face reconstruction surgery is a specialized medical procedure that addresses facial deformities, injuries, congenital disabilities, or post-surgical defects. This complex branch of surgery combines art and science, aiming to rebuild the structure and aesthetics of the face while restoring essential functions like chewing, speaking, and breathing.
Types of Face Reconstruction Procedures
Understanding the different types of face reconstruction procedures can provide insight into what this surgery can achieve:
Trauma Reconstruction
Facial injuries from accidents, sports, or other traumatic events can lead to significant disfigurement or functional impairments. Trauma reconstruction involves the realignment and repair of facial bones and tissues to restore the original appearance and function.
Cleft and Craniofacial Surgery
Birth defects such as cleft lip and palate require corrective surgery to ensure the child’s face develops normally and essential functions like feeding and speaking are intact. Craniofacial surgery may also address conditions like craniosynostosis and other syndromic deformities.
Tumor and Cancer Resection Reconstruction
Patients who have undergone the removal of facial tumors may require reconstruction to restore facial symmetry and function. This process might involve bone grafts, tissue flaps, and prosthetics to rebuild affected areas.
Post-Infection or Disease Reconstruction
Severe infections or diseases that damage facial tissues may necessitate surgical intervention. This type of reconstruction ensures that the integrity and functionality of the face are maintained or restored after treatment.
The Process of Face Reconstruction Surgery
A successful face reconstruction surgery requires careful planning and execution:
Initial Consultation and Diagnosis: A thorough evaluation of the patient's medical history, current condition, and specific needs is conducted.
3D Imaging and Simulation: Advanced imaging technologies help map the facial structure to guide the surgical plan, ensuring precision and personalized outcomes.
Surgical Procedure: Depending on the complexity, surgery may be performed in one or multiple stages, with a combination of grafts, tissue expansion, or implants.
Recovery and Rehabilitation: Post-surgery, the recovery process involves a detailed plan that may include physical therapy and regular follow-up visits.

Struggling with Facial Imbalance? Discover How Maxillofacial Surgery Can Restore Harmony to Your Appearance and Health
Facial symmetry is essential not just for aesthetics but also for functional reasons—imbalance can cause difficulty in speaking, eating, and even breathing. For those experiencing facial asymmetry due to injury, congenital conditions, or other issues, maxillofacial surgery offers a path toward balance, confidence, and improved quality of life.
Understanding Facial Imbalance and Its Causes
Facial imbalance, or asymmetry, refers to any visible discrepancy in facial structure. This can arise from various factors, including:
Genetic Conditions: Some people are born with craniofacial anomalies, such as cleft lips or palate, that can cause facial asymmetry.
Injuries or Trauma: Accidents, falls, or sports injuries can damage facial bones and muscles, leading to misalignment.
Jaw Misalignment: Conditions like overbites, underbites, and crossbites affect facial balance, potentially causing discomfort and functional difficulties.
Medical Conditions: Certain diseases or muscle disorders may lead to asymmetry over time.
Whatever the cause, living with facial imbalance can be challenging, affecting one’s self-confidence and ability to perform daily functions. Fortunately, maxillofacial surgery is a precise solution to restore balance, boost confidence, and provide lasting comfort.
What is Maxillofacial Surgery?
Maxillofacial surgery is a specialized area within dentistry that focuses on diagnosing and treating conditions involving the jaw, mouth, face, and neck. This field requires advanced surgical skills and knowledge, as surgeons work with complex facial anatomy to restore harmony and function.
Maxillofacial surgeons are specially trained to manage facial fractures, tumors, and congenital anomalies and perform facial reconstructive surgery to achieve symmetry. Using advanced techniques and state-of-the-art equipment, these surgeries are precise and effective, offering safe and reliable results.
How Maxillofacial Surgery Restores Harmony
At Family Dental Clinic and Implant Center, our internationally trained maxillofacial surgeons understand the unique nature of facial anatomy and how to address facial imbalance issues. Here’s how maxillofacial surgery can help:
Correcting Jaw Alignment: Jaw misalignment is a common cause of facial imbalance. Procedures like orthognathic surgery reposition the jaw to correct alignment, restoring symmetry and improving function. This can relieve discomfort from chewing, speech, or breathing difficulties caused by misalignment.
Addressing Facial Trauma: Facial injuries from accidents or trauma can displace bones and tissues, causing visible asymmetry. Maxillofacial surgery involves careful reconstruction of the facial bones, including the jaw, cheekbones, and eye sockets, to restore a natural appearance and ensure balanced healing.
Managing Congenital Conditions: Conditions like cleft lips or palates impact facial symmetry and often require corrective surgery early in life. Maxillofacial surgery can realign facial structures and improve functionality, helping children and adults achieve a balanced appearance while enhancing speech and eating functions.
Dental Implant Integration: Missing teeth can cause shifting in facial structure, affecting symmetry. Dental implants can support the facial structure by preventing bone loss, particularly in patients with extensive tooth loss, and promoting balanced appearance and function.
Muscle and Soft Tissue Correction: Sometimes, facial imbalance results from soft tissue anomalies rather than bone structure. Maxillofacial surgeons can reshape or reposition soft tissues to achieve a harmonious look, ensuring a natural appearance that aligns with the facial bone structure.
The Benefits of Maxillofacial Surgery
Opting for maxillofacial surgery not only restores physical balance but also enhances quality of life by:
Improving Functionality: Realigning the jaw and facial bones can ease issues with chewing, speaking, and breathing, making everyday activities more comfortable.
Enhancing Aesthetics and Self-Esteem: Correcting facial asymmetry has a positive psychological impact, boosting self-confidence and helping individuals feel comfortable in social interactions.
Minimizing Pain and Discomfort: Many patients experience chronic discomfort from conditions like temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) and malocclusion. Maxillofacial surgery alleviates these issues, leading to a better overall quality of life.
Preventing Further Complications: Left untreated, facial imbalances can worsen, leading to more serious complications. Surgical intervention provides lasting relief and reduces the risk of future issues.
