@princessxombie gave me a little disco pumpkin plush & I sewed wings & glued a googly eye on it & it's a littol creechure now
It hangs under streetlamps & slowly spins using its 2 little grabby feet. The light reflecting off its shiny scales disorients its prey- insects, small rodents & sometimes even fish [pretty much anything nocturnal & small enough to fit in its mouth. It uses a froglike tongue to catch prey. I don't know why it's pumpkin shaped or what the stem is for. Vibration-sensing organ maybe? Maybe it uses echolocation, but fitting with the disco theme, it makes like a rhythmic 4-4 beat by clicking its jaws I dunno

I think the dirty mirror kinda adds to the aesthetic 😅
Taking pictures of a mirror is hard. Antler is real shed, mushrooms made by me with polymer clay!

Prehistoric Mirrors from Turkey, c.6,000 BCE: these are the oldest manufactured mirrors in the world, dating back to about 8,000 years ago; they were meticulously crafted from pieces of obsidian
Tumblr media
Above: two of the obsidian mirrors from Çatalhöyük (Turkey); this pair was found buried together back in 2012
At least eight of these obsidian mirrors have been discovered at a Neolithic site known as Çatalhöyük, which is located in Turkey. All of the mirrors date back to roughly 8,000 years ago, and each one was crafted from a chunk of obsidian (volcanic glass) that was knapped into the shape of a disc and then meticulously polished with progressively finer abrasives until a smooth, slightly convex surface had been developed.
Some of these mirrors can still produce remarkably clear reflections, even after 8,000 years.

FINALLY! I've been wanting to make the magic mirror from Twisted Wonderland for a while and it turned out AWESOME!!! Now looking at the finished project, I should have tried to find an oval canvas since you can barely see any of the mirror part BUT STILL!!! The frame is built from cardboard and foam clay and a crapton of gold paint. When I have time, I'll edit the video of me making this.

Iron Age Bronze Balmaclellan Mirror, The National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh
The Balmaclellan Mirror was found in a bog in Kirkcudbrightshire, south-western Scotland. It was part of a hoard of precious objects wrapped in cloth and placed in a bog, perhaps as an offering to the gods. Both faces of the item were smooth for reflecting.
Dated to 80-250CE, this mirror shows a mixture of influences in its style. The people who made this were familiar with southern British Celtic art and Roman art, adapting these to create a distinctive local style.

Maybe I should do. Linktober? A bit? I would post egg carvings on some days
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Egg carvings! :D it's an area of art I do a lot and would want to grow in... it's wierd tho ':D I hollow eggshells and engrave on them or carve them into shapes... I did this one quick today for examples
If yall want me to do it a bit I will... and that top photo would count for day one- mirror. The reflection setting in the sksw final boss is so cool to me and also I love drawing lightning, tho this isn't my favourite egg I've ever done. Anyways. I could do some days? What do y'all think?
.
Edit: well I guess I'm doing it then! Happy October yall, this should be fun :D
