There have been a lot of mixed opinions and confusion about Saosin flip flopping between Anthony and Cove lately, and now the news that they are re-recording their self titled record with Cove has made people even more conflicted. The general consensus I'm seeing online is that their s/t is a classic and shouldn't be touched, and that they should be directing their energy into writing new material instead. Personally I think it's a smart move. Their self titled is more relevant now than it has been for a while, and re-recording it will allow them to fully regain ownership of their songs again. I also just think they sound god damn electrifying in this live video. Cove sounds better than he has in years and the whole band just sounds heavy and tight. I was super impressed by how fresh they sound live, and I can't wait to hear how the redux ends up sounding.

As much as I love Anthony Green and his songs with Saosin, this is the Saosin I always wanted to see and I am so grateful I got to experience this night in Pomona.

EP Review: DVRK - Infinite Reminiscence (Season of Mist)
French deathcore band, DVRK, release their debut EP, Infinite Reminiscence, on the 7th of June via Season of Mist. Since their inception in 2019, DVRK has crafted a unique blend of Deathcore, Nu Metal, and Bass music. Formed at first as a solo project, DVRK evolved naturally into the dynamic 5 piece they are today. Hard work and dedication has seen them make waves in the industry and seen them…

P.O.D. - Veritas
It’s been six years since nu-metal band POD dropped their last album, but I found out a couple of weeks ago that a new album from them was coming out this past Friday. Entitled Veritas, I was somewhat looking forward to it, because I’ve been listening to some nu-metalcore. What better album to listen to than a new one from one of the biggest bands of that era? I’ve only ever listened to their early albums, too, so I haven’t heard anything new from them, but I was curious about this one. I was mainly curious to see how POD would update their sound in 2024, as well as see what the guests this album has would bring. Including Randy Blythe of Lamb Of God, Cove Reber of Saosin, and the vocalist of Jinjer, the guests on this record are quite interesting, but how is the music itself?
Well, this album is pretty good, actually, but it gets old quick. I hate to say that, because I do really like it, but there isn’t anything here that you wouldn’t have heard in 2004. This sounds like an old school nu-metal record with some hard-rock thrown in, and for what it is, it’s good! The hooks are pretty strong, there are some cool riffs, and the lyrics aren’t half bad, despite using every inspirational cliche in the book, but it’s all been done before. They don’t need to reinvent the wheel, sure, but they don’t quite modernize the sound, either. The thing that does help, however, is that this album is around 35 minutes, so it’s short and sweet.
If you like this band, or you have a soft spot for 2000s nu-metal, you’ll dig this. I like it a lot, like I said, but it’s just nothing special. It’s done well, though, and the guests are cool, too. I can’t fault this album for doing what it does well, even if it’s generic as all hell. It’s a lot of fun, and that’s what matters most to me these days, especially if I can go back to something. I’ve been playing this a lot throughout the week, and it holds up quite well with multiple listens. It’s a fun little record, so if you want to check out a solid nu-metal record, Veritas is a good choice.
