Nick's so far under the bus that they might as well change the oil while they're under there.
Okay, because I'm a bit of a masochist and I have adblockers...
I'm going to count how many times James throws Nick under the bus:
@2:40 – 'This fell upon Nick as well, as a non-binary person on the ace spectrum, they wanted to include asexuality and non-binary representation to our videos. But because Nick's experience is not universal – There is no universal experience – people felt that we were delegitimizing their own experiences because we focused on Nick's.' (The reason we were acephobic was because we (meaning Nick) didn't think other ace people had problems and when it was pointed out to us by The Ace Couple that ace people did, in fact, face discrimination and conversion therapy, we (meaning James) accused them of homophobia and sicced their followers on them.)
@6:38 – 'The work Nick and I were doing on the channel...' (Because Nick was here too! Not just me!)
@10:46 – 'I was much more interested in the production of the videos than the writing of them, at this point. So after three or four videos, I brought Nick on as a main writer for the channel. The idea is that they would write the vast majority of the scripts. I would film, voice, and edit the videos and we'd split the money that came in.'(Nick was the main writer for the channel! In case you forgot...)
@14:40 – 'And then my mom died... and I became completely useless. I couldn't think straight, at all, so Nick had to completely take over writing duties.'(DID I MENTION NICK WAS THE MAIN WRITER. ALSO MY MOM DIED; FEEL SORRY FOR ME)
@19:44 – 'When Nick got back, he believed the script needed a first page rework. This was also when he told me he was going to be moving back to Ontario permanently soon as he wanted to live closer to family and live in a bigger city with more opportunities. This was a punch to the gut for me. We'd been living together since 2015 and had become quite dependent on each other. I felt like there was no way I could make this movie without him.'(We couldn't make the movie we promised because SOMEONE DECIDED TO MOVE and since I'm co-dependent on him, I moved with him and screwed up everything. Oopsie.)
@26:32 – 'But by accepting as many sponsors as we did, which became very important when Nick and I started living apart and suddenly had two rents to pay, we ended up needing to produce even more videos. Which, along with the work on Telos and making sure everything was okay with my dad while living thousands of kilometers away meant I had even less time for writing – putting more stress on Nick and leading to even more copy and pasting from me.' (See what you did, Nick?! We have to pay TWO rents now and we need to make even MORE videos. I'm not creepily co-dependent on my asexual ex-roommate at all!)
@32:50 – 'I know what misinformation had made its way into our past videos. That was not something we intended; in some cases it was information I was told by people I considered experts. In other cases it was information that we had researched. In other cases it was things that Nick had learned in university.'(Nick told me some of this stuff! ((which is fair because NICK ADMITTED HE DOESN'T DO RESEARCH)) In other cases it was because I assumed I knew what happened because I'm the smartest person I know so of course Lesbians had it easier! I just forgot that Radcliffe Hall's books were banned and destroyed because of that head injury I talked about earlier.)
And here's an honorable mention where the smug “I'm smarter than you” BS comes to visit:
'To those who say I plagiarized the plot from the novel Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix – Read the book. It's nothing like the plot of the movie. And 'The Final Girl' is a trope in horror movies so if using the Final Girl trope is plagiarism then basically everyone who's made a slasher movie since Texas Chainsaw Massacre owes the Toby Hooper estate some money.'
So, much like how James doesn't understand why people aren't upset at him because of citation issues, he doesn't understand that it's not the fact that he's using the 'Final Girl' trope... it's the fact that he stated the book as a favorite of his and then... suddenly he's writing a movie about the aftermath of the Final Girl. And given the plagiarism, it can not be taken in good faith.
First off, if you just google 'First Final Girl', it just says Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of the earliest examples. Another possibility for the 'First Final Girl' was actually Black Christmas which was released the same day in Canada so it is literally tied.
Secondly; the final girl trope is not required for slasher movies. One of the first 'proto-slasher' movies was actually Psycho so there were a few good decades between that and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. (I could try and make a case that Lila Crane should count as a Final Girl; maybe even Mrs. Bates/Norman as a subversion... but I'm not that invested or interested.)
So... James was true to form, he just wanted to be a smug asshat and try and seem smart over something easily googled.

Historically Insignificant - Training Grounds
As always, the video can be found here!
youtube
After finding a photo of some fire fighters inside one of the houses, I noticed that the background was actually the former Royal Connaught Hotel in Hamilton, Ontario. The hotel was converted into high end condominiums about a decade ago but let's take a moment to see what it looked like before the renovations!
Today we will be exploring a couple of abandoned houses side by side. Both homes were built in the Tudor style in the 1920s. The first home was most recently used as a hair spa and massage therapy clinic. Its neighbour was used as an office for the Ontario firefighters union.
The properties were bought for redevelopment and the current proposal suggests the homes will be replaced by a 7-storey apartment building with 141 new rental units.

Relax, I’m From The Future
A conversation with writer-director Luke Higgingson
Tumblr media
Relax, I’m From The Future was a surprise fav of mine at last year’s Fantasia Fest, and it’s finally getting a theatrical release! The movie is a punk rock sci-fi comedy with a lot of wit and even more heart starring Rhys Darby (Flight of the Conchords, Our Flag Means Death) and Gabrielle Graham (Possessor, Twenties) as an unlikely duo trying, sort of, not really, to save the world. I got a chance to speak with writer-director Luke Higginson a few weeks ago about all the work that went into his debut feature. Read our (lightly edited for clarity) conversation below!
Tell me, how do you describe this movie to other people?
It’s very much my attempt to work through my anxieties about the future and the state of the world in a way that might bring me some comfort without eliminating the very real cynicism I have about it. [My short film in 2013] started as a simple joke idea — the idea of an unprepared timetraveler — and then when people sort of liked that film more than I expected, I thought about how I would make that meaningful enough to expand it. And as I noodled on that, Trump got elected, and Covid happened, a lot of terrible things happened… It really became a source of therapy for me to write this ridiculous film and pump my anxieties into it. That’s really where I found what the film was about.
There is an incredible dynamic between Rhys and Gabrielle — how did you work your story with them?
Gabriel Graham was the first person that I knew I wanted to cast [as Holly]. I saw Brandon Cronenberg’s Possessor, and she had such presence, but I didn’t know if she was funny, so I watched Twenties… it was clear she had comic chops.
For Casper [Rhys Darby’s character], you have to be on board with following him even when he does some questionable things. And also, he’s on screen for so much of the movie that it had to be someone with real energy, especially in a script that’s mostly people talking to each other. There weren’t a lot of people that I felt fit that. Then when his name was floated, it was immediately like omg holy shit that would be amazing! My producers at Wango films are phenomenally gifted at getting scripts in hands. I spent a couple of days building up a dossier of arguments for why he should do the film. And when we got on the call and he was just like “Hey, so I just wanted to meet ya and make sure you were ok with me doing this movie”, I was blown away. He had this tiny little window where we could get him for 15 shooting days and he agreed to come up [to Hamilton, Ontario] and do it. I’m still pinching myself about that, it was amazing.
In terms of working with them, because of that window of time, there was no time for rehearsal. There was barely time for Rhys to learn his lines. I got one hour of Rhys and Gabby in a room together before the first day of shooting… Something clicked, it was like Oh it’s Casper and Holly, they’re hanging out!
The scene in the playground — where the two of them are sharing a bottle of booze and talking — was incredibly cold, absurdly cold. And they were both very underdressed for that weather. They were both improving and bouncing off of each other. That was the scene where I felt like ah there’s something special between these two in particular. It was cool, it was really special, both of them are just amazing.
Wait, the shooting schedule was only 15 days?
We had Rhys for 15 days, and we shot for 18 days, but Rhys is in almost all of the movie.
How did the music in the movie play into writing your story and how did you manage to clear all those songs?
I knew a ton of people in the Toronto indie-rock punk scene and I always knew that if I ever got to make a movie, I knew all these great songs that no one knows. I listened to a lot of that stuff writing the film — Holly being part of the punk scene was very important to the character. I gave [Gabrielle] a playlist of a bunch of 70s CBGB stuff, she watched a documentary on Poly Styrene. That really embodied the vibe of the music. I wanted it to be all Toronto music on the soundtrack, it’s basically a split between songs from bands that I played with or went to see back in the day and bands that are still operating right now. The big coup was getting Pup involved, which was really exciting. They didn’t have to say yes at all, but they really were big fans of Rhys and [because of Covid] I think they were a little itchy to get on stage in front of a bunch of people. We got to use a few of their songs, as well as Metz and Bad Waitress and a couple of other great bands.
In terms of the licensing side what I didn’t expect as a problem was that many of those bands no longer exist and never had any kind of official existence in terms of paper work or legality, so I perhaps foolishly did not see that coming as a problem. Anagram, Sailboats Are White, Lunchmeat — all great bands that I love, but [licensing their songs] was a trickier thing than I thought it was gonna be.
What are some of the challenges or joys that you encountered in the editing room, putting this thing together?
The editing process was long, longer than I expected. My baby was 6 months old when we started shooting, which was a real challenge for me and my wife. I literally edited the film with my baby next to me, so it took a while. But really, it was about matching the film to Rhys’s rhythm. When we [cast] Rhys, who’s one of the best improvisers comedically in the world, I knew that [for the edit] I was gonna want both sides of the conversations he has with Gabby. So any time that Rhys is talking to another person, there’s two cameras going at the same time and that really allowed us to use the little moments of inspiration and improvisation. If Rhys gives you a piece of gold, you know that you have it covered. That was big, I think both in the shooting and in the editing.
Time travel can be a tricky narrative device! How did you build the rules of this universe?
I knew right off the bat that I was neither capable nor interested in doing something scientifically “accurate”, but you also don’t want the audience to feel like you don’t give a shit. It has to feel like there’s an internal consistency. So my guiding principle was that rules of time travel are going to be what serves the humour and the story, and then once I have those things, to make sure it’s internally consistent. It actively subverts what I felt was the most common tropes — like in Terminator, you have to be naked to travel through time, in my movie you have to have no skin showing of any kind. In most time travel movies you can go back and forth, in mine you can only go back. When drafting it out, I went with the ideas that I found funny, then once I had the beats, I worked very hard to make sure it was internally consistent within that.
What was screening your film at Fantasia like?
It was incredible, I can’t say enough good things about Fantasia. I wanna shout out programmer Carolyn Mauricette, who saw a very rough cut of the film without any of the sound mix or special effects. She saw it, she got it, she connected to it. It just meant so much, that phase of the editing process, you’re very emotionally fragile, you have no idea if you’ve made something that works or not, and that was such a vote of confidence.
What are you hoping people take away from this?
I am genuinely very excited for people to see Rhys do this. I feel like he uses some muscles that you don’t get to see him use normally, he’s such a star. And I think Gabriel Graham is incredibly slept on, like she’s a successful actor but I think way more people should know her. I’m gonna sit in on a bunch of screenings — I never need to watch the movie again, but I do love watching the audience watch it, and there are some moments in the back third of the movie that I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of hearing an audience react to.
I didn’t even ask you about Julian Richings!
He’s incredible! I got him [cast as Percy] by recording a video begging him to be in the movie because he’s a legend! I first saw him in Hard Core Logo when I was a teenager, he’s so captivating. So ya, I recorded a shameless message and sent it to him, and luckily he is the sweetest man in the world, just the easiest person in the world to work with — I can’t say enough nice things about him.
I think this movie has a lot for a lot of different crowds of people — you got the gays, you got the nerds, you got the horror fans -
Those are all my people! Those are my favourite type of people!
I’m excited for people to see it!
Me too!

canadian here - canada's pretty okay. if you wanna move somewhere progressive stick with the big cities and not to dunk on the other provinces but BC and Ontario are probably the best in that sense (and ofc the most expensive sorry). Alberta is only semi jokingly known as the Texas of Canada so do with that what you will. Never been but from what I've heard you do need to speak French to get by in Quebec so unless you do or want to learn I wouldn't super recommend it.
as a Vancouverite I gotta rep my city- it's super diverse and really queer friendly, and in those regards feels really safe. plus the Pacific northwest is fantastic - so so much nature, loads of beaches, ski resorts, islands, lakes, trails, forests, and the temp goes from about -3 to 30 degrees Celsius, so not too extreme. Not sure what you've been told about Canadian wildlife but it's really not that bad - you only get bears in the suburbs and outwards and as long as you keep alert and keep your head on you it's fine. same with the coyotes.
downsides of Vancouver: job market is TOUGH atm, especially for entry level jobs. cost of living and housing especially is also really bad, and there is a fairly significant homelessness/drug/mental health problem that makes certain parts of the city not super safe
politically we are coming to a crossroads - Justin Trudeau, the current PM & with the Liberal Party, is near universally hated at this point, mostly for economic reasons, and the NDP party is never gonna win, so unless Trudeau gets his wakeup call and steps down, at our next election we might be looking at a Conservative government, which would not be ideal. not trump-levels of devastating but not ideal.
anyways you should come to Canada indy!! it's definitely not perfect but we'd love to have you <3
i do know the area im going to be moving to already but this was super informative about the surroundings thank you so much for being thorough i really appreciate it. and for explaining the political landscape too! super helpful
right now my worries lie in the work visa and it’s stipulations because i know i can’t apply for PR or citizenship for a couple years at least. updating my passport and applying for a visa is my next move, and then i know the canadian gov has to let me know if i’m approved and then give me the info on where i’m allowed to work and how long.
i’m guessing since my record was expunged there shouldn’t be a problem with that at least. what i am worried about is my history with keeping a job is not super good, and i’m worried that if i obtain a visa to work a specific place, and then fuck it up, then i’ll be shit outta luck
my other problem is the cost of living and how i’ll basically be forced to work to keep up with the visa and to afford actually eating and being alive.
if you don’t mind me picking your brain a bit more, healthcare is a big thing for me right now. does it differ from province to province and does it cover mental health services and issues? would therapy be on the table or is that an out of pocket cost or would i need better insurance etc
if you don’t know that’s cool! i’m just gathering as much info i can on the subject before i dive in, as i often do

I am going to have to take a little time away from tumblr. (Hopefully just a couple days)
I don't have enough money for my pain/ptsd/mood medication, and don't want to act or say shit I don't mean.
I'm I'm a bad mental place, and don't know how long until I can get my medications.
Seeing things on here (food) that I'm nearly addicted to, while feeling like such shit, when I can't afford a bag of milk or medication the rest of this, and all of next month triggers bad feelings from my bpd.
I have borderline personality disorder, and it's hell to deal with on the best days.
The only thing I can do when I'm in a spell is recluse because I'm not... I'm basically a broken human.
The specific way my combination of disorders come together, basically make it so everything about me is broken in one way or another, and that I'll never be able to maintain, or have relationships or friendships or really any human connection.
I am invalid
Now, not everyone with bpd is this way. Most aren't.
There's over 117 different ways it can present, as well as the fact I have multiple other disorders intertwined with it.
I have done 12 years of all different types of therapies, and workshops. I have all the skills needed, but one disorder will trigger the next, and the next, and the next, and suddenly I don't know what day it is or what happened the last two.
I'm on a large amount of antidepressants, to the point every doctor I see questions it.
300mg effexor
275mg lamotragine
300mg welbutrin
1mg resperidone
For depression only.
I have also been prescribed medicinal Marijuana (in Ontario - legal) and that's the one I can't afford.
That one helps with pain, depression, c-ptsd, and panic disorder w/ agoraphobia. (Some of my dx's) this is the one I can't afford this month. It's the one that carries most of the weight.
Honestly the only reason I didn't get shock therapy is because I needed a ride home, and didn't have one, and couldn't afford a cab.
Please remember it's the specific combination of symptoms of 6+ psychiatric diagnoses. Very, very, very few people with any of my dxs will be affected this way.
People with bpd get a bad rap of being bad people. Bpd is basically like our mind is as sensitive as a 3rd degree burn - the slightest interaction, can cause a big reaction in our brain that we can't always control. It doesn't mean we don't try. It means we learn when to pull ourselves away to calm down.
Adding for luck.
If you're able to help with cost of medication, my PayPal is: https://www.paypal.me/thatguyyates
Nothing that comes in will be going to food/groceries until medication cost is covered (unless specified)
Currently at $75/$205 but a service fee is coming out soon
(Not all medications or health issues have been added. Not all are needed in here)

Advanced Psychological Testing Services in Ontario
In an age where mental health awareness is at its peak, understanding the intricate workings of the human mind has never been more crucial. Advanced psychological testing services are pivotal in diagnosing, understanding, and treating various psychological conditions. In Ontario, these services are evolving rapidly, providing invaluable insights that foster mental wellness and improve quality of life. This blog delves into the significance, processes, and benefits of advanced psychological testing services available in Ontario.
Understanding Psychological Testing
Tumblr media
The Importance of Advanced Psychological Testing
Accurate Diagnosis: Advanced psychological tests provide precise and comprehensive evaluations that aid in accurately diagnosing mental health disorders. Conditions such as ADHD, depression, anxiety, and learning disabilities can be identified early, leading to timely intervention.
Personalized Treatment Plans: The insights gained from Psychological Assessment Ontario allow mental health professionals to develop tailored treatment plans. Understanding the unique psychological profile of an individual ensures that therapeutic interventions are customized to meet specific needs.
Monitoring Progress: Psychological assessments are not just for diagnosis but also for monitoring the progress of treatment. Regular testing can help track improvements, adjust treatment strategies, and ensure that therapeutic goals are being met.
Educational and Occupational Guidance: For students and professionals, psychological testing can provide guidance on learning styles, career choices, and workplace accommodations. It helps in identifying strengths and areas that need support, fostering personal and professional growth.
The Process of Psychological Testing
The process of psychological testing typically involves several steps, each designed to gather comprehensive information about an individual’s mental health.
Initial Consultation: The process begins with an initial consultation where the psychologist gathers background information, understands the concerns, and determines the need for specific tests.
Selection of Tests: Based on the initial consultation, the psychologist selects appropriate tests. These may include standardized questionnaires, cognitive tests, projective tests, and observational methods.
Administration of Tests: The selected tests are administered in a controlled environment. This may involve paper-and-pencil tests, computer-based assessments, or interactive tasks. The administration is usually conducted over several sessions to ensure accuracy and reliability.
Scoring and Interpretation: After the tests are administered, the results are scored and interpreted. Psychologists use their expertise to analyze the data, considering the individual’s history, current functioning, and specific circumstances.
Feedback Session: The results are then discussed with the individual (and sometimes with family members or other professionals) in a feedback session. The psychologist explains the findings, provides a diagnosis if applicable, and discusses recommendations for treatment or further assessment.
Tumblr media
Types of Psychological Tests
Cognitive Tests: These tests measure intellectual abilities, memory, problem-solving skills, and other cognitive functions. Examples include IQ tests, memory tests, and executive function assessments.
Personality Assessments: These tests explore personality traits, emotional functioning, and behavioral patterns. Commonly used assessments include the MMPI (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory) and the Rorschach Inkblot Test.
Neuropsychological Tests: These tests assess brain function and are often used in cases of brain injury, neurological disorders, or developmental conditions. They evaluate cognitive abilities, motor skills, and sensory functions.
Behavioral Assessments: These tests observe and analyze behavior in specific contexts, often used for diagnosing conditions like autism, ADHD, and conduct disorders.

Revolutionizing Healthcare with Regenerative Medicine at Eterna Health
Tumblr media
At Eterna Health, we are at the forefront of regenerative medicine, a rapidly advancing field that holds the promise of healing and restoring the body’s natural ability to regenerate. By utilizing the body’s own healing properties, regenerative medicine offers a revolutionary approach to treating a wide variety of chronic diseases, injuries, and degenerative conditions that were once considered untreatable. Our clinic in Mississauga, Ontario, is dedicated to providing cutting-edge treatments, including stem cell therapy and other regenerative techniques, to improve our patients' quality of life.
What is Regenerative Medicine?
Regenerative medicine is a branch of medicine focused on harnessing the body’s natural healing abilities to repair, replace, or regenerate damaged tissues and organs. This approach is often used for conditions that involve damaged or degenerated tissues, such as joint pain, arthritis, tendon injuries, and even neurological disorders.
The core of regenerative medicine is the use of stem cells, growth factors, and other biological materials to stimulate the body's natural healing processes. These therapies not only aim to treat symptoms but also focus on addressing the underlying causes of disease and injury, providing long-term relief and improved function.
How Does Regenerative Medicine Work?
Regenerative medicine works by stimulating the body’s inherent regenerative capacity. Treatments like stem cell therapy, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections, and tissue engineering work to repair damaged tissues, reduce inflammation, and promote healing. For example, stem cells have the unique ability to transform into different types of cells in the body, allowing them to regenerate damaged tissues such as cartilage, muscles, and nerves.
Through regenerative techniques, we can promote the growth of healthy, functional cells, which can help patients recover from injuries, reduce pain, and restore normal function. This approach not only alleviates symptoms but can also slow down or even reverse the progression of certain degenerative conditions.
Why Choose Regenerative Medicine at Eterna Health?
At Eterna Health, we are proud to offer advanced regenerative therapies under the guidance of Dr. Adeel Khan, a leader in the field of regenerative medicine. With extensive experience and a passion for innovation, Dr. Khan and his team are dedicated to helping patients restore their health using the most effective, natural treatments available.
Expertise in Regenerative Therapies
Dr. Khan’s deep understanding of regenerative medicine, coupled with his commitment to personalized care, makes Eterna Health a trusted destination for patients seeking cutting-edge treatments. With a focus on both traditional and modern techniques, we provide solutions that are tailored to each patient’s unique condition and health goals.
Personalized, Patient-Centered Care
At Eterna Health, we take the time to understand each patient’s needs and design individualized treatment plans to ensure the best outcomes. Our focus is not just on alleviating symptoms but on addressing the root cause of your condition, offering long-term solutions and improved quality of life.
The Benefits of Regenerative Medicine
Regenerative medicine offers a wide range of benefits, making it a promising treatment option for those struggling with chronic conditions and injuries. Some of the key benefits include:
Natural Healing: Regenerative treatments harness the body’s natural ability to heal itself, promoting tissue regeneration and restoring damaged areas without the need for invasive surgeries.
Pain Relief: Stem cells and PRP can significantly reduce inflammation, pain, and swelling, providing effective pain management without relying on medications.
Improved Function: By stimulating the regeneration of damaged tissues, regenerative medicine helps improve mobility, flexibility, and overall function.
Minimal Downtime: Many regenerative treatments are minimally invasive, meaning there is little to no downtime, and patients can return to their normal activities relatively quickly.
Long-Term Results: Regenerative therapies can provide lasting improvements by addressing the root causes of conditions, promoting long-term healing and disease prevention.
Conditions Treated with Regenerative Medicine
Regenerative medicine has shown great promise in treating a wide variety of conditions, including:
Joint and Cartilage Damage: Stem cell therapy and PRP can help repair damaged cartilage and reduce pain in conditions like osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Tendon and Ligament Injuries: Regenerative treatments can accelerate healing in torn or damaged tendons and ligaments, promoting faster recovery and improved function.
Sports Injuries: Athletes often turn to regenerative medicine to treat strains, sprains, and overuse injuries, which can be difficult to heal with traditional methods.
Chronic Pain Conditions: Regenerative therapies are an effective solution for managing chronic pain caused by conditions like fibromyalgia, tendinitis, and degenerative disc disease.
Neurological Disorders: Research is increasingly showing that stem cell therapy can help with neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord injuries, and multiple sclerosis.
Wound Healing: Regenerative medicine is being used to accelerate the healing of chronic wounds and ulcers, reducing the need for invasive surgeries.
The Regenerative Medicine Process at Eterna Health
At Eterna Health, we provide a comprehensive approach to regenerative medicine, ensuring that each patient receives the most advanced and effective treatments available. Our process includes the following steps:
Consultation and Diagnosis: We begin with a thorough consultation to understand your medical history, symptoms, and health goals. This helps us determine if regenerative medicine is the right treatment for you.
Personalized Treatment Plan: Based on your diagnosis, Dr. Khan will create a customized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and condition.
Treatment Administration: Depending on your plan, treatments like stem cell therapy, PRP injections, or other regenerative therapies will be administered to the targeted area to stimulate healing.
Recovery and Follow-Up: While recovery time varies depending on the treatment, most patients experience minimal downtime and can resume their daily activities shortly after the procedure. We’ll schedule follow-up visits to monitor your progress and ensure the best possible outcome.
