Devastatingly, it appears I've only finished one (I have GOT to start keeping a record bc I forgor) 💀 And what a one it is! The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern 🖤🤍 I definitely did not have a crisis of identity upon finishing it (last time I read it was in high school) ^_^ ANYWAY I'm currently reading more than just one, at least! Between fanfics, I've got Red Side Story by Jasper Fforde, Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett, & The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas on rotation 😃💞🌈🌌⛵️ After them will be Don Quixote!

this is the first encounter jonathan has with a baby too, and right before the horror overcame him and made him faint, and not to spoil much but in contrast with other narrators his feelings towards children and mothers are so intense

It's like the last straw that breaks Jonathan's mind in this chapter. Not only the vampire ladies almost assault him so they can kill him after, then Dracula comes and lays his possession over him as if Jonathan was an object, but also he finds out immediately how is Dracula feeding the ladies.

An innocent child, who was moments ago warm and peaceful in their crib ended up in the hands of the Count, and said child will end up dead in a brutal way if Jonathan saw how eager the brides were to get their hands on the poor baby.

Jonathan can't take such brutal display of inhumanity. Seeing what is basically the twisted version of a mother carrying their child away, and knowing that instead of that baby being safe, the brides are going to eat it alive.

The crib is now cold and empty, and the mother is now grieving the loss of her child (a mother that probably knows exactly who took it).

How can Jonathan process that?
