Birdwatching is great because you get to be in touch with nature and learn something about your surroundings, but I also love it because birds make me laugh. Look at these goofballs! I am sure I will go through all these emotions this week too 😆

This little guy never leaves the telephone pole across from my apartment.
I seriously need to give him a name.

Pretty sure the real source is someone who exists right here on tumblr dot com: @ostdrossel who really started the whole bird-camera thing. Now you can just buy a bird feeder/camera online, but they had to invent it first.
In particular, one of those definitely looks like Count Grackula.

It's Puff Grack season! I love the Grackles, and about a week after their arrival they have started to show off. Please enjoy the Grack Waltz! (Unmute for max fun!)

Sunny March mornings are great for bird photos, especially when it comes to Grackles. I love studying all the different hues on them. There are subtypes with blue-green, purple and bronze tones in the feathers. The Blue Jays also love the sun, it makes all the intricate patterns their feathers have more visible, especially cool around the face.

The other day I talked about different color variations of Grackles, and today, one of the more rare ones showed up here. If you look at the throat, you see bronze and purple tones where the other kind I usually see here have greens and blues, like in the third photo. This is not just the light. The last photo is a female Redwinged Blackbird.
Here is some more info on the subspecies.

The Gracks have shown off nicely, puffing up, shooing away rivals and trying to intimidate the camera 🤓 The last one is a warrior that arrived like this a couple of weeks ago. I like to think he looks a little better by now.

The Grackles for February are for one, yet another that came on a snowy day, and the judgy one with a very intense stare. Photos like the second one are why I decided to make a judgy Grack calendar, they just have the best poses, and the world needs to see them.

If you've been following for a bit you know I have a soft spot for Grackles. And I am happy to report that they have started to return here this week. They are probably still passing through but it is wonderful to see their grumpy faces again. It lifts the spirits a bit to know that spring is really on its way. This clip is from the Birdfy 2 Pro camera.

Women's Day should be every day, really but we may just as well celebrate when we can - so I hope all the ladies have a fantastic day today and get spoilt rotten! The coming days are going to be fun - I read that today is the last colder day for a bit. My skin and bones will rejoice, and so will nature outside. Here are some visitors from yesterday. A House Finch, a MoDo, a Redwinged Blackbird and a Grackle.

Surprise visitor this morning on the Birdfy - a Grackle! I had one one year staying into December, but I don't think I have seen one in January in my yard before, but I also know that not all birds migrate far. I love Grackles and would not mind being his winter host.

The Count came very early and then again a little later and would not share with the MoDo. A Redbellied Woodpecker that came later had to wait for me to refill. I just love the Grackle against the snow 😍
(You see a Grackle visiting a small porcelain plate feeder on a snowy day. A Mourning Dove approaches and immediately leaves. When the Grack is done, a Redbellied Woodpecker arrives, clings to the bowl and looks over the edge to find food.)
