Ed isn’t a cold logician he’s just autistic.

I could leave it there but I have to expand on this if only to be able to explain why I resonate with him.

We’ve seen him referred to as cold or unfeeling since like the start, in the first few seasons it’s not even overtly it’s just implied that that’s how people view him. But he isn’t. He’s incredibly emotional in actuality, to a point where I could put him as a second place for Gotham’s most emotional character.

He only gets called cold because people don’t see how logical and factual his feels are to him, like the pier scene in season 4 or 5 where Oswald tells him that if he listened to his heart more than his head he’d understand, but in season 5 he even admits that he rarely ever harmed a person who didn’t wrong him in someway! When you stop the look at all his major moments in the show it’s all very clearly emotional. Season 3 possibly shows this the best after Ed finds out Oswald killed Isabella, with his violent fantasy where he stabs Oswald. Or when despite everything in season 5 he stays. Practically every major event per season for him is emotionally driven.

He’s seen as always taking into account every fact and detail he can and one of his most driving facts that isn’t mention is his why. His emotions are, to him, factual and are taken into account. Even if he can’t fully understand them, like in season 4 as we see with Lee, or denies them, like how he cares for Oswald, he analyzes them and uses them like he would any other factual thing. And the only reason others don’t see this is the fact that he expresses his emotions in a different way than other people and when he enacts plans that are based on his emotions he’s already gone through feeling them viscerally enough to cause anything that would show it so he basically seems emotionless during it.

And when we put his kind of emotional and juxtapose it against say Oswald’s kind of emotional, most would immediately point out how in this comparison Ed looks emotionless and cold but when you take a closer look it more shows that they’re sides of the same coin. They are cunning, dangerous, and motivated by their heart but act with their heads. For Oswald his heart is stronger than his head and it’s the opposite for Ed but they are both emotionally driven.

TLDR- Ed is very personally emotionally intelligent and a emotional person but people see him as cold because he’s autistic.

for Edward. When it comes to general face shape ? Like rectangular head. The dimple on his chin. Cheekbones. It’s based on Cory micheal smith (gotham!Ed)

then when it comes to hair, skin tone, nose, eyes. General features basically. it’s mostly inspired by the people around me? ( I’m from west Asia. My Edward is middle eastern. Kuwait to be specific, and I grew up watching Kuwaiti dramas )

but I could share some pictures of people that look a little similar? A little bit of a darker skin tone I guess.

I also have these saved because they remind me of him especially the hairstyle.

the tooth gap is stolen from young justice riddler because he’s adorable.

for Oswald it’s a little harder to have something specific. again, took some inspiration from Robin lord Taylor ( Gotham!Oswald ) for hair. Freckles. Eyes. Skin tone. The V shaped smile. Especially season s4-5 since he seems to have gained some weight there compared to older seasons.

I also take inspo from Matt berry since he’s one of my penguin fancast

Info dump to me about the riddler I think it’s cute you’re so interested. :) ! <3 also I liked dipper a lot too he was silly, and I liked Mabel and his relationship, it’s probably the most releastic depiction of siblings imo.

basically Riddler, Edward Nigma/Nygma/Nashton (his name is a pun and i hate it), is usually depicted as a low crime level villain and more as just a little nuisance who wants attention. he differs from games, shows, comics, films, but overall he’s a silly riddle guy with almost a desperation for others to realize how intelligent he is. he’s known to be a terrible liar and will always tell the truth usually in a riddle or a play on words. he’s believed to be this way because he was abused by his father. once he mentions that his father accused Edward of cheating on a test and beat him. My favourite depiction of the Riddler is in “The Batman,” movie with Paul Dano playing him. HES SO COOL!! I’ve never seen the Riddler perceived as creepy and off putting and that movie just absolutely enamored me. Paul Dano even released comics of his Riddler and he’s written beautifully. A man struggling with intense intrusive thoughts, incredible smarts but no recognition, a corrupt city, and no faith in the people around him. He’s saved by Batman one day and suddenly he becomes obsessed with the idea that Batman must be the saviour of the city. He calls him “hope incarnate.” So he does everything in his power to be on his level and work by his side. So obviously the next step of action is to devise a plan to blow up the entire city :3 the riddler is also painfully autism coded and in Gotham (the tv show) Cory Micheal Smith, the actor for the Riddler, even did research on autism so he could grasp the character. i think he did it very well and i am entirely biased on that. Overall, the Riddler is just a cringefail loser and i love him.

and Dipper and Mabel were my favourite depiction of siblings in media like ever. probably because you could tell the creator actually wrote them based off of him and his sister hehe

I take one look at CMS and, yes, ma’am that’s not Edward Nygma.

He has that aura about him, I can’t explain it. It’s like he’s a whole different person

ok, so Oswald Cobblepot (The Penguin) and Edward Nygma (The Riddler) are both mentioned in this dream and both of them are from the television series, Gotham.

so, Oswald, Ed and i.

we’re practicing some sort of dance routine.

this is all happening at a church i used to attend.

let’s call it Metro.

we’re all practicing this routine for a show; what kind of show, i’m not sure...

the dance, if i remember correctly, is kind of embarrassing.

not for me, but for a sophisticated, older man with a degree in forensic science.

anyways, at Metro, after the sequence of our dance, my mind teleports me somewhere.

to a different section of the church.

there’s the main church and there’s another building where the kids and teens had church.

i was where the teens had church.

from there, i walked to the main church and found it completely empty except for a couple of random people seated in the pews along with my father and his wife.

Oswald and Ed are waiting for me on stage so i kind of rush up there to not keep them waiting for too long.

Oswald is to the left, Ed is on the right and they left a space for me in the middle.

right when we are about to perform the dance, i forget all the moves.

“STOP!” i yell, to the guy who controls the music and he does.

i turn towards Ed and ask him to teach me the dance all over again.

he does.

i’m watching him do all the moves with fascination as it seems all the choreography has left my head.

you know when you read a book?

you’ll start reading the page, top to bottom, and not retain a single piece of information?

that was me at that very moment.

i was watching him dance but not really retaining the moves he was doing.

after he was done, he left. for where, i didn’t find out until later.

back to the stage, i tell Oswald i don’t understand and he’s kind enough to show me again.

however, i’m still not grasping the concept of the dance i literally had memorized not moments ago.

when he’s done, i go to the men’s locker room (the actual church does not have locker room, but it appears this one does).

it looks like a typical shower you’d see in the locker rooms at school.

it’s like a room, covered in tile, that has four shower heads coming out of the right wall. all at a good distance and separated by curtains. on the left is the locker rooms separated similar to how it is in High School Musical.

i walk up to the one Ed is in and ask him, from behind the curtain, if he can show me again.

still inside the shower, he says over the water, “I love clean fuel as much as the next guy, but please don’t make me do that again...”

apparently, the dance was for a charity involving clean fuel.
