Pancratium maritimum

Considering he was born just fourteen years after corsica got indipendence from Genoa in 1755 (and barely 15 months after France bought it in 1769 - the dates of acquisition from one republic to the state are a bit different) I'd say he himself was of italian descent at this point lol. It's also pretty obvious by looking at his surname but both his parents were born in italian-ruled Corsica
#[.txt]#essentially yeah when he was born he was technically french but by a very labile limit of maybe a few years of corsica being french#at the very least he was more italian than he was french. 'Buonaparte' as a family name isn't exactly french you know?#then again corsica is a tricky thing. Considering Sardinia... it was as different from the main state as any island would be#my original point is he wasn't even from France. Which is really funny. I'm not that invested in vindacting him as being from my country#as if I like ligurian people... come on

Continuing with a supporting character who joins the cast much later than the others and started a bit as a joke character until he got fleshed out (no pun intended) with @papabirdurskeks, Maymun, inspired from Moors. Many years ago he was a great pirate captain of ambiguous morals without being evil either and with a good soul deep down but who still was very competent at his job making himself a name in the field, stealing from many ships and never being caught, not fearing the dangerous ocean humans rarely went to. He could have been even more famous... but he fell into the charms (literally) of the God of Death Mortez who loves to collect souls for his coat made of them. When the protagonists come to his island and escape from him in time, the main character accidentally snatched away one soul when gripping on the god's coat and it was Maymun. Maymun is finally free but has no body and he finds out nobody remembered him after his abrupt end ! Grouchy, he still sticks aroune fault of other choice and his knowledge on the ocean and gods turn out very precious. Didn't design his full body since we see his former looks only in flashbacks, he is just a little blue flying soul ball nowadays
Clothes references (even if I went more for piracy than traditional)
#moor#pirate#moi#collab#papabirdurskeks#aguas banderas#ocs#maymun#soul#then and now#reference#clothes#fashion#flag#corsica#france#lmao I remember when they tried to create a controversy about 'omg a beheaded black man on their flag Corsicans are racist!'#When no it is a beheaded PIRATE because Moors loved to raid Corsica and other islands to kidnap people and sell them as slaves#so it was essentially a warning
