Here starts the constellation's song
Here starts the constellation's song that me and Nathaniel transcripted:
Mortals tell stories about a city. They call her a dazzling pearl of the ancient world. Her life was that of rulers and beggars, poets and bankers, old and young, men and women, and everyone in between. She knew neither sleep nor total darkness, although the parts of her that were dark bled the darkness like no other darkness known to mortals. Just as the parts of her that were bright bled the light like no other light in this world.
She was everything and everything could happen on her streets, her bazaars, palaces, universities, and slums. And while being everything, she was also her, distinct, unmistakable, unforgettable.
She was a city to tower over all cities and she indeed had a tower. An observatory from which one day the scholars saw the approaching storm, one of such strength that it would kill the city and all that lived in her.
Mortals say that the city's people packed and left in a matter of weeks, leaving behind only the empty shell, the city's corpse. They say that when the storm came, the devastation was so complete that the only parts of the city that survived were the few stones that were thrown so far into the sky that they formed a constellation.
This is a dead story, all its loose ends cut short, neat and oval like a pebble. I still remember pebbles. And I remember my death and my ascension. I remember being so alive that when destruction came, our reflection was imprinted into the night sky because the universe refused to forget us. I am the soul of the immortal city and all the filthy, beautiful people who died in me. I loved them all.
I didn't know how to roleplay a constellation, but yesterday I went to a friend.
I cycle everywhere, and to get to her flat I need to ride through the main street of my city. I live in one of the youngest cities in my country, the infrastructure was built mostly in the XIXth century, and instead of the main square, it has a long promenade that twenty years ago was cobbled with the names of people who lived here at the turn of the millennium.
It is still the season, so Christmas decorations are all there: light strings between street lights, a carousel made of Christmas lights, photobooths also made of Christmas lights, and electric raindeers. And, since it was 15 degrees Celsius (climate catastrophe helping this blog once again), there were a lot of people. I've never seen so many people on this street in winter (barring one massive winter charity event we have in Poland), and I used to perform there every weekend. They seemed happy, full of hope, slightly hungover from New Year parties, and absolutely beautiful.
About five hours later, after ten PM I was riding back, the soundtrack to Flicker and the Fade still in my headphones, and the street was empty, except for the crazy amount of lights and a few lonely pilgrims, one-third of them making pictures of the long, empty, lonesome shining street on New Year's late evening and I was in love with both faces of the city I saw that day.
And that's how I decided that my constellation will be a city immortalized.
This is the first entry in my The Flicker and the Fade playthrough. You can find the game here, so far it challenged my imagination in a way I really like: https://nyessa.itch.io/the-flicker-and-the-fade

if the rfa had youtube channels, what would they be posting?
This is going to be so much fun oml. I know exactly what to do. So buckle up 👁👁
Reblogs are highly appreciated. :)
RFA on YouTube
Includes: Zen, Yoosung, Jaehee, Jumin, Seven, V, Rika.
Warnings -> (N/A)
Type: Headcanons.
Zen:
✧ Zenny’s Tips & Tricks ✧
His channel is mainly about himself, as anyone would guess.
But at the same time, they’re actually helpful and fun to watch. He’s been crowned the “big bro” of YouTube.
Beauty tips: How to wash your face properly and the right products to use, the perfect shampoo and conditioners, how to keep yourself from aging...
Zen will also do tons of reviews and sponsorships.
Whenever he’s not talking about beauty, here comes the tricks.
Acting tricks: How to pick your monologues, the right volume to use within the theatre, how to use your expressions, the red flags in theatre...
Even if you aren’t interested in those, he always makes the videos enjoyable to learn from.
The occasional fancams here and there...
“It’s not weird to show your own fancams, right?”
Yoosung:
⭑ Yoosung Games ⭑
Of course he’d be a gamer channel.
Streams on Twitch and then edits the videos for YouTube the next day.
He has the whole set up too - the gaming chair, headphones, glowing keyboard, etc.
One of the best LOLOL streamers out there, but he also tries new games.
The occasional conspiracy theory videos.
Yoosung often streams with other players too and has his own little circle.
Really kicked off when he tried out Minecraft survival mode.
Would probably be one of those yelling/screaming type streamers...
“The enderman looked scary, okay!!”
Pure of heart, dumb of ass.
Out of request, would probably do some challenges like Try Not to Laugh or Simulator challenges.
CrankGameplays vibes...
Overall a very loved YouTuber and slowly growing in subscribers.
Jaehee:
❊ Jaehee Kang ❊
A very casual YouTuber.
Doesn’t really open up an account until she has her café.
Vlogging about her day is her main source of content.
There are a few videos with tips about creating a business and marketing, as well as what all she did to get there.
Shows off her coffee skills with her morning scenes.
If it’s a slow day for Jaehee, she’ll film herself working with soft music playing in the background that viewers can listen to with her.
Occasionally streams for Q&A sessions and to just talk with her subscribers.
Relationship videos with MC.
Hair updates because she’s excited about it growing out!!
A very loved and relaxing account. Who could hate her.
“Mom of YouTube.”
Jumin:
- (=•́ܫ•̀=) Jumin Han (=•́ܫ•̀=)
A business related channel.
Everyone asks about the cat faces in his name.
He doesn’t answer. (Was put in by Luciel)
Focuses his content on how to run a business and what it’s like for a CEO.
Doesn’t post too often - predominately takes requests when someone has a question about his work.
Will use the account to upload something professionally and send over in meetings.
If given the chance, will talk for a good 30 minutes about one simple thing. No editing either.
One time, Jumin made a video about the Dark Arts and magic he learned from his book. Everyone asked what that was about.
He didn’t answer.
Almost always has Elizabeth the Third with him in his videos too.
“Everyone must see her beauty at all times, don’t you think?”
Seven:
♛ Defender of Justice ♛
People usually call him Seven or Luciel in his videos, though.
Because he can’t show his identity to the world, he’s a masked YouTuber. (Also the reason why Saeran doesn’t create a channel.)
Think channels like Corpse, SwaggerSouls, or Dream.
Plays along with Yoosung in his games and is part of that little circle.
Will occasionally stream but relies more on videos he can edit.
Lots of cool effects in his videos - the intro is never skipped by anyone.
He tried being a VTuber once. Nearly cancelled for catfishing.
When he’s not gaming with Yoosung, Seven is mainly doing reviews on materialistic things.
Probably cars, inventions, recent technology, and giving info about them.
He’s a super mysterious YouTuber because no one knows anything about him. No one can find anything if they tried.
Everyone loves his humor though and how accepting he is to his fans.
V:
✎ Jihyun Arts ✎
Creates his channel after his route.
Will post tutorials, speedpaints, reviews, and look at his subscribers art to compliment them.
Very slow with updating his videos but makes up for it with the length. (Average 15-20 minutes.)
Everyone loves to put his videos on in the background since his voice is really soothing. Especially when he’s painting very quietly.
There are a few videos where he teaches certain techniques with both photography and painting, like lighting and settings.
As a photographer, it was hard to clearly see feedback on his works or talk with fans. Thankfully, YouTube changed that.
It took him a while to ease into it, but he loves engaging with subscribers and asks questions on social media all the time.
Reshares any and all artwork made for him to give his honest opinions, which are all lovely.
Somehow shipped with Jumin by fans.
Rika:
☼ Kim Rika ☼
Posts twice a week with a mixture of content.
Occasionally promotes the RFA and charity work as a leader.
But on other times when there are no parties coming up, she does story times.
With parties and planning around famous (and infamous) guests, she’s bound to have a few interesting stories she can say publicly.
Like how nice Rui is in donating his photographs, or the time she slipped up and said the wrong thing to Chef Lamsey.
They’re all in good fun and typically a drama free channel.
Sometimes will vlog herself when preparing for parties and making trips to gather the things needed.
Lots of cute effects and stays within a very warm theme in all her thumbnails.
Just like Jihyun, she’s one of those channels where people play her videos in the background to simply listen to her voice.
Most likely has a line of merch, all sun and daffodil related.
PHEW that’s a lot of characters. Hope this is what you had in mind! ^^
- 💙

Dream SMP Recap (December 15/2020)
It’s the day that Tommy snaps. Time for something new instead, as Tommy escapes to live with Techno.
But with a battle on the horizon tomorrow pitting New L’manburg against Technoblade, where will loyalties lie?
Also, Dream has given Technoblade his support, the development of Dry Waters continues, and a skirmish breaks out between Jack, Antfrost, Ponk and Purpled over property claims.
(I was a bit busier today, so I apologize for the recap being a bit more vague/possibly missing points. As always, feel free to respond to the post with your own additions!)
---
- Tubbo works on the ocean hole with Sam
- Techno heads to the mountain where he first met with Dream. Dream tells him about the bounty hunters looking for his head, saying spies informed him of the danger, and hands him a Woodland Explorer map. He tells Techno to let him know any time he needs Dream’s assistance.
- Techno makes it to the Mansion and gets TWO Totems of Undying.
- Tommy logs on. Dream comes to visit. They build the log tower a bit before going to the Prime Log. Dream digs a hole to drop Tommy’s armor in and finds the hidden room beneath Ghostbur’s house.
- Dream Moment
Blooper reel pog?
- He snaps at Tommy for trying to lie to him and explodes Logstedshire with TNT. He destroys Tommy’s portal to his friends and sends Tommy back to square one.
- Tommy towers above the clouds, but finally realizes that Dream wasn’t actually trying to be his friend, just trying to watch him.
- He decides to run. He heads over to Techno’s base and sets himself up “The Den” beneath Techno’s cellar, deciding to hide there for the time being.
- Meanwhile, Fundy gets into the Chrismler spiri with Niki by setting himself on fire and bullying Techno with Quackity, who is in his Technoblade cosplay.
- Purpled and Ponk try to scam people out of property by claiming it. They get into a conflict with Antfrost, and Jack gets involved as well to try and stop the war.
- Tommy is still angry at everyone in L’manburg, but he’s done with not fighting back. It isn’t a revolution, it’s just him.
But at least he’s back, with a goal to get back his discs.
- Fundy shows Niki his levitation/astral projection tricks. Niki has an existential crisis and starts questioning reality.
- Purpled and Ponk get into a 2v2 against Jack and Antfrost. Purpled and Ponk win. Ponk says it’s a canon death and Purpled’s just like...no.
- Ponk calls for more canon deaths. Everyone says no, Ponk. Purpled and Ponk lose the second fight. The arguments continue.
- Purpled threatens the Thiccatron with a flint and steel as the two parties go through negotiations. Antfrost gives accusations of speciesism.
- Purpled sets the Thiccatron ablaze. Everyone manages to extinguish the fire before it gets to the main part of the wooden cylinder, thankfully, but a lot of damage was done to the exterior path. Ponk is dismayed.
Ponk’s job is never done.
The destruction is destiny.
(By the way, that entire war was unscripted. Purpled really wasn’t expecting that whole bit lmao)
- Fundy and Niki continue work on Dry Waters. Gogy.
- Fundy and Niki play Mining Fatigue.
- Corpse comes online. Karl starts giving the tour. Chaos ensues.
- Mexican Dream shows up as a ghost. Eret, Niki and Sapnap are also there.
- Concert time!
- Quackity streams with the intention of preparing for the Butcher Army’s big moment tomorrow. He also clarifies that him being shot on top of Mexican L’manburg during the Revolution was not a canon death, and he’s still on two left.
- Quackity decides it’s time to finally name his prized skeleton horse, the only thing he cares about in his entire server. He asks Dream for a nametag and Dream meets him at Pandora’s Vault to give it to him. Quackity sees the prison for the first time and is terrified - it reminds him of his time in juvie.
- Wilbur joins the call. As Ghostbur, he can say that canonically, there is no god in the Dream SMP.
- He becomes Quackity’s therapist. He tells Quackity to say sorry to god. Quackity messages an apology to god.
- God responds with “what?”
- Wilbur says his job is done and leaves.
- Tubbo and Ranboo joins. Wilbur returns, Techno joins as well and everyone is just very confused by Wilbur’s motivational words.
---
Upcoming Events:
- Big Techno stream tomorrow, finally fighting the Butcher Army. Tommy might stream, might not.
Still Unsure:
- Elytra Challenge
- Bad and Skeppy’s thing

Chapter Summary: Davina and Klaus each force Maleny to finally decide which side she's in during their war. Unfortunately, Maleny hasn't figured out a way to make both sides attainable.
Maleny paced back and forth inside her room while having a heated conversation with someone over the phone, "No, Isabelle, it's fine, honest. Well - Isabelle, please-"
"Mal?" Hayley knocked on the open door, concerned with the blonde's expressions.
Maleny motioned to be given a minute so she could handle the phone conversation, "Isabelle, I don't need help here. And no, please don't send her either - Amarrah said she would be going back to the police station anyways. I'm fine, please. Bye."
Hayley arched her eyebrows and crossed her arms, though having heard everything on the other line she still remained confused, "Who exactly was that? She sounded French."
"She is," Maleny sighed, tossing her phone on the bed, "and she's beyond worried."
"Wait," Hayley came into the room, "is she part of that family-"
"The Collins," Maleny clarified.
"They're the family that took care of your original body all these centuries?" Hayley asked, receiving a confirming nod from Maleny, "What's going on?"
"Isabelle - she's worried about my condition here," Maleny shrugged, "She's so worried she wants to send in her daughter to 'look after me'. As if I didn't already have enough babysitters."
Hayley knew Maleny was mostly overwhelmed with all the problems they had, so this small new thing was like the tip of the iceberg for the poor blonde. She walked up to Maleny, "Listen, maybe you should go take some air. I can go with you if you'd like," she knew under no circumstances was Maleny supposed to go out on her own. Despite the tensed air in the house, that was still rule number one (behind Maleny's back of course).
Maleny silently walked over to her bed, sitting on its side and leaning towards the nightstand to open its drawer. Hayley watched her pull out her old journal in which she wrote every detail she could remember from her past lives. Maleny skimmed a couple pages before growling in frustration and glancing back at Hayley.
"I can't look at this anymore," she said, almost to tears suddenly, "I need to get rid of it."
"Those are your lives, Mal," Hayley softly reminded, but received a harsh scoff in return.
"And yet, it may not matter anymore. I can return to my cycle at any moment. What does it matter if I tear these memories to shreds? They're just constant reminders of what I may be going into again."
"So...what do you want to do, then?" Hayley curiously asked.
Maleny stared long and hard at her journal before deciding, "I want to burn it."
"O-okay..." Hayley looked around, unsure of the idea.
"I mean it," Maleny rose from her spot, turning to the hybrid, "Can you...can you go downstairs for me? We can make a little fire in the kitchen."
"But Mal-"
"Hayley, please?"
With a sigh, Hayley agreed and left the room. Maleny waited a minute after Hayley left to grab her phone and journal and stuffed inside her bag. She snatched her jacket from her dresser and hurried out her room. As she went down the stairs she looked all around the place as she made her escape out the compound.
By the time Hayley returned to Maleny's room, the blonde was long gone. Hayley called out for her friend, going to different rooms hoping to see her somewhere. Eventually, defeated, she came into Klaus' art room where he was currently working on an artwork.
"Klaus, we have a problem," Hayley released a big breath, wondering how he would take it. However, something completely different came out instead.
"Maleny has escaped," Klaus casually said, raising a jar of blue paint to inspect its color shade. Hayley blinked just as he glanced at her, "You're about fifteen minutes late."
"How did you...?" Hayley made a confused face.
"Simply because we're not speaking to each other doesn't mean I stop keeping an eye on her," Klaus put back the jar on the table and left his work to walk up to Hayley, "Speedy steps coming from the staircase can only mean someone was in a hurry to leave - Maleny, clearly. Had it been you or Elijah you would've sped out."
"Why didn't you stop her, then?" Hayley scowled, "You make it a big deal she shouldn't go out and yet you let her run out without protection?"
"Now who said I was going to let her go without protection?" Klaus challenged, walking around the woman into the hallway. Hayley turned and went after him, "I was giving Maleny some time to head off before I went after her. I can't exactly go right behind her, could I?"
Hayley stopped by the stairs while he went down, "So...you're gonna be with her today, then?"
"From a distance, yes."
"Why not beside her? That would be safer for her wouldn't it?"
Klaus stopped at the bottom and looked up, earnestly replying, "Because she clearly does not want me beside her. I thought it was apparent by our current situation."
Hayley rolled her eyes, leaning her arms on the banister, "Your current 'situation' is beyond stupid. Instead of acting like children sit the hell down and have a proper conversation," and before Klaus could make an irritated response, Hayley added one last suggestion, "And like last time: avoid shouting. It does wonders sometimes."
Klaus didn't have anything to come back with anymore. Throwing her a glare, he went out in pursuit of Maleny.

Cami anxiously watched her new friend Gia stand against a wall with her eyes shut as another vampire stepped forwards and flung a dart with all his might. Without opening her eyes, Gia caught the dart just several inches from her nose. She laughed and opened her eyes, triumphantly waving the dart.
"Pay up!" she wiggled her fingers at the vampire who'd thrown the dart. As she was being paid, she high-fived Cami on the side.
"Told you you would learn," Cami smirked as Gia now waved the $100 bill between them.
"We just made $50 bucks each," Gia laughed and soon Cami joined in.
It had been quite the relaxing time for Cami as she spent time away from the Quarter, at the Algiers. While Marcel had been initially concerned with Cami's move, he allowed her to stay in his loft, but sometimes she would stay at Gia's place. It'd only been about two weeks but Cami had never felt so close to her human days like she did now. Yes, they were all vampires and they did vampire things together but it was different now. She had started her college studies again, and was promised she would definitely graduate. She'd made a good friend in Gia and together had fun - along with the other vampires.
But unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.
The party stopped when a vampire's corpse was flung through one of the loft's windows. As the group got closer to see who it was, they realized it was one of theirs. It appeared to have been a werewolf attack judging by half the throat of the corpse lying out. Seconds later, the loft was filled with Esther's werewolves.
Furious, Gia stalked up to the leader, a young man named Aiden, "The hell is wrong with you people? We didn't do anything!"
Aiden stared at her with an unimpressed look, "This is nothing your kind hasn't done to us. Learn your history."
Cami silently came forwards to pull Gia back while Marcel went towards them as well, "I don't know who the hell you are, but we had a deal. Vampires stay out of the Quarter? Everybody's cool."
"That's not good enough anymore."
"Yeah?" Cami raised an eyebrow, "Says who? Your leash holder, Esther? You know, I've only been a vampire for a couple of months but I know how werewolves work. You were independent creatures, loyal to each other...must have missed the part where you went rogue for some stupid rings."
Aiden smirked and nodded to one of his werewolf friends. One of them snatched a vampire by the neck and bit him. A second one went for Davina's friend, Josh, to do the same when Aiden called.
"That's enough!" Aiden looked at Marcel, knowing he was the leader, "Your privileges here have been revoked. Permanently. So, when we come back, you need to be gone. Because next time? I won't call them off. Consider this a warning, Marcel. It's the only one you're gonna get."
With that, the werewolves began leaving. Gia turned to Cami with an expectant look and pulled her to the side of the room, "Now would be a really good time for you to call your cousin…or your boyfriend."
By now Cami knew Gia's teases very well and air strangled her, "He's not my-" Gia broke into a light laughter, "-I hate you," the blonde said seconds afterwards.
Gia sobered up and became serious, "But seriously, I think a call is in order here. Call one of them, please?"
Cami gave a deep sigh as she looked around, seeing how the other vampires were frantically discussing with Marcel about the plans. She didn't want to see any of them run, no one should. No one should have to.

Maleny was quietly sitting at a park bench, passing a couple pages in her journal...and ripping them out one by one. She would have much rather preferred the fire but she would take a peaceful day out on her own (or so she thought anyways) than being stuck in that lonesome compound. Suddenly, from the corner of her eye, she saw someone taking a seat beside her.
"I know who you are," she said without looking up, "Finn," she then turned her head at the man inhabited by Finn Mikaelson. The dark-skinned man with chocolate brown eyes gave her a crooked smirk reminding her of Klaus. She quickly shook her head and returned her attention to her journal.
Finn lightly smiled and leaned back on the bench, "I must say, it's actually very good to see you, Maleny. What's it been? A thousand years?"
"Hmm, that's the most amusing thing you've said to me in a thousand years," Maleny muttered as she passed a different page and ripped the previous one out.
"I know you and I didn't always get along but we were family, weren't we?"
Maleny scoffed and looked up from her journal, "Sometimes," she gave him that, "but other times you were just plain mean to me."
Seeing her fruit fall to the ground and roll away in separate directions, Maleny groaned. She put down the basket she'd been carrying to go retrieve the fruit she'd lost. She brought back most of it eventually, and thankfully no one in the village took note of it, but when she went to pick up an apple, someone else did it.
"I think I might keep this one," Finn flashed her a wide smile.
"You will not," Maleny declared sternly and reached for the apple but he held it up high. Due to the height difference, it was impossible for Maleny to get it back. "Finn! I need that for tonight's festival. Give it back," Finn shrugged and walked past her, biting into the apple. Maleny turned after him, crossing her arms and glaring after him, "You're being completely childish, you know!" she called after him.
"Am I the one shouting over an apple?" Finn turned back, rolling his eyes before he gagged, "Eugh..."
Maleny narrowed her eyes suspiciously, "What is it?"
Finn spit out what he had been chewing on, "This is rotten fruit!" he promptly chucked it back to Maleny, hitting her knee.
"Ow!" the blonde yelped and jumped back in surprise, "That was not polite!"
"Next time leave the fruit gathering to those with actual eyes," Finn sarcastically pointed to his own, "Maybe they can bring in better food than you," he grumbled more things under his breath as he walked away.
Finn raised his eyebrows and suddenly chuckled, "Are you really still upset I threw you an apple?"
"It hit my leg!" Maleny exclaimed but wasn't going to argue over something like that, "I never understood you, Finn. Sometimes you were actually a good guy, but other times it's like you were prone to be this evil brother. What side am I getting from you today, hm? What do you want?"
"You know my mother wants to you come to the Lycee with me," Finn began but Maleny scoffed and interrupted him.
"She can keep dreaming."
"What my mother offers you is your freedom, how is that a bad thing?" Finn shrugged, genuinely unable to understand Maleny's anger, "Listen, right now our priority lays on the white oak stake which can kill my siblings."
Maleny closed her journal and glared at Finn, "And you want to know where Davina is. Well you and I are on the same page because I don't know where she is either. No one does, okay?"
"I'm sure Elijah or Klaus have worked it out by now," Finn insisted calmly.
"I can assure you Elijah has not. As for Klaus, I wouldn't know."
Finn smirked upon detecting the extra bitterness Maleny had when speaking of Klaus, "Trouble in your deranged love story?"
Maleny scowled, "Don't you have somewhere else to be? I'm kinda busy."
"Shredding your memories, I see," Finn raised a crumpled journal paper from the bench.
Maleny snatched the paper from him, "At least I'm not killing people or forcing them to work for me like packs of mules. Tell your mother I don't know where Davina is, and even if I did know I wouldn't tell her. Also feel free to mention I don't want her help."
Finn got up from the bench, his smile vanishing, "Oh Maleny, before you know it, you will be coming for my mother's help, begging her to."
"I'd rather die," Maleny declared casually, "So buh-bye," she waved him off and smiled to herself once she was alone again. She grabbed her bag from her other side and stuffed the crumpled papers into it before taking the journal and continuing to rip out the remainder. She only stopped when she heard her cellphone ringing and upon seeing the caller ID she dropped everything to answer, "Hello!?"
"Maleny…" came Davina's nervous from the other line, "...heeeey…"
"Don't 'hey' me, young lady, what the hell are you thinking?" Maleny wasted no time in scolding, realizing at the moment she sounded more like a mother than a friend, "Reviving Mikael? Stealing the white oak stake!? Are you kidding me!?"
"I know, it's bad," Davina sighed but that didn't stop Maleny from continuing.
"N-n-n-n-n-no, no, bad is when you shoplift. This is beyond horrendous! Do you have any idea what kind of trouble you're in? You are in way over your head!"
"Mal, you can't be angry with me," Davina huffed, "After everything Klaus and Elijah have done to me, I'm pretty justified in attempting revenge."
"Look, I'm angry with all of you for your behavior, but under no circumstances do I want any of you dead," Maleny truthfully said.
Davina remained silent for a good minute before darkly saying, "I'm sorry Maleny, but you knew sooner or later this would come. You have to make a choice between the Mikaelsons and your friends. I want Klaus dead and I will do what it takes to get it done. I'm sorry."
Maleny's eyes widened in horror, "Davina, no!" but the line went dead, signaling Davina had hung up. Lowering her phone, Maleny stared at the ground as she felt a knot in her stomach form. A decision? She didn't want to make any decisions - especially ones that would mean losing a friend or family.
"So," a different voice spoke up, making Maleny shoot right up from the bench, "What's your choice?" Klaus stood behind the bench with his hands behind his back.
"You...scared me!" Maleny put a hand over her chest, "Were you listening in on the entire conversation?"
"Let's be honest, we both know the answer to that. I knew sooner or later Davina would try to contact you so all I had to do was wait," Klaus casually came around the bench and stopped mere inches from her, "But you haven't answered my question, Maleny. What's your choice? Davina...or me?"
Maleny sucked in a breath and looked to the side, "You don't speak to me for two weeks and now you're asking me this? I don't think so!"
Klaus balled one of his fists but kept himself restrained, he suspected that would be more or less her response after their two week of silent treatment. It hadn't been his intention to leave such a large gap. After their argument, and after cooling down, he attempted to give Maleny some space to review all that had been said and done, hoping she would realize her mistake and finally accept her feelings. Unfortunately for him, his "attempt of space giving" had been taken by Maleny as a rude silent treatment. She was irritated with him for being "childish" but deep down she was more hurt. After getting back to the Quarter, she wanted to see him and be alright. She didn't like it when she walked into a room and seconds later he would walk out. Their arguments in the past never lasted more than a couple of hours back in their human days.
But now they could go two weeks without directing a word to each other, or a full month...
Maleny didn't want to continue this cycle anymore. And now that she knew what would be happening - a true fight between him and Davina - she didn't want to let him out of her sight.
"Take me with you," she whispered, confusing Klaus for a minute, "I know you know where Davina is just by listening in to my phone call. I don't want her getting hurt," and before Klaus made some sort of remark about her already choosing the teen, Maleny quickly added, "And that doesn't mean I pick her! I just want to...supervise."
"Will you be able to handle sitting in a car with me?" Klaus sarcastically asked, "Or will you pile one more excuses to stay away?"
Maleny shook her head, "Of course I can handle being close to you. The real question here is will you decide to direct a word to me the entire drive? Look, I need to come, okay? Can I?"
"Fine," Klaus turned away and started walking, leaving Maleny to scramble for her things and hurry behind, "But I must warn you that if you cannot reason with Davina I will end her."
Maleny knew of course he would do that, but even then she couldn't fathom seeing Davina hurt, "I can reason with her," she announced rather sure of herself, earning a sharp look from Klaus, "I can," she added seconds later, "I know I can."
But as they walked Maleny silently admitted to herself that perhaps Davina was beyond reasoning by this point. It was true, the Mikaelsons had hurt her in many ways and on some level, her revenge was justified. But still, Maleny hoped it wouldn't come to that.

Back in Marcel's loft, Cami and Gia quietly conversed in Marcel's loft regarding the werewolf attack earlier in the day. Marcel was out gathering the rest of the vampires in the area to give them the update on their current situation.
"Marcel says we shouldn't run, but Josh is afraid," Gia was in the middle of saying as she came to take a seat on the couch across Cami, with a stolen drink from Marcel's bar, "I, on the other hand, think we need to be far smarter about it."
Cami was listening but she didn't have much to comment on the subject. She knew she didn't want run, nor let the vampires do the same. But she just wasn't experienced in all this. Since she turned, she always had, well...Elijah to take care of the trouble. Klaus had always been locked in his room brooding and sulking while Hayley took to biting witches in the bayou and whatnot, thus leaving only Elijah. And when Cami thought about who she called for help, she shamefully looked down.
"I mean, I don't know how to fight or anything but I think we can learn, no?" Gia then realized her words were practically flying over Cami's head, "Cami?" she snapped her fingers and got the blonde's attention, "Where are you?"
"Sorry," Cami straightened up on her spot, "I was just thinking."
"Right," Gia sipped her drink, "So, what do you think we'll end up doing?"
But before Cami could answer Elijah entered the room, having the perfect response, "I would hope it didn't involve running away," he said with a small smirk, "That's not what we do anymore."
Gia raised an eyebrow, "Anymore?" she'd picked up on the key word and leaned forwards, more than interested, "Who'd you run away from?"
Elijah ignored the question as he went straight for Cami, "It's nice to see you again, Camille," Cami gave a silent nod, "How long has it been again?"
"I don't know," Cami looked up, detecting a sense of smugness in his tone as if he was pleased to hear she finally needed help from him, "I've been having too much fun to notice."
Gia cleared her throat awkwardly and stood up, "Well, I'll leave you guys to discuss. Try not to kill each other," she parted with that final warning.
"Well," Elijah watched after the new vampire with a sense of surprise, "I see you two hit it off. Am I to assume she's part of the reason you refuse to come home?"
"Home?" Cami raised her eyebrow, "The compound's not my home, Elijah. It's yours."
"Are you saying you never felt welcomed with us, then?" Elijah went ahead and took Gia's seat across Cami.
"No, I did…" Cami said quietly, "...but this has nothing to do with it, okay? Besides, originally, I was pissed off at you for leaving Gia behind like that."
"The woman was not our responsibility, Cami," Elijah reiterated, and still stood by it, "Marcel turned her therefore he should train her. I wasn't going to waste time on her and I frankly can't understand why you were doing so."
"What? So I was supposed to follow you around like I always do nowadays?" Cami scoffed at the idea, "No way, no more. I know I needed a lot of help in the months before but Mal's back and it's time for me to get my own life back."
"You still need my help though," Elijah reminded with another hint of triumph, something that irritated Cami.
Cami couldn't take that and rushed to get up, "I do, honestly, every vampire on this side does, but I won't take it if you'll continue to be so smug about it like you were just waiting for me to come asking for help. We can find help somewhere else," she turned to leave but Elijah quickly grabbed her arm and stopped her.
"I'm sorry," Elijah sighed and slowly Cami turned back, expecting more than just those two words, "I want to help, honest. Why don't you tell me exactly what happened?" he motioned for Cami to take a seat beside him.
Silently, Cami walked to the couch and plopped down, "Okay," she sighed and began to recount the werewolves' threat earlier in the day.

Deep in the bayou, Maleny was trudging back and forth holding her cellphone up in hopes of getting more service. She'd managed to slip a text to Davina warning she and Klaus were on their way but Maleny wanted to get at least another phone call in.
"Is this seriously why you made me stop the car?" Klaus called from a higher ground, the road ground actually. Maleny had found a small lake just down a small hill - she thought it was the best place to sneak away from supernatural hearing. Apparently, she was wrong.
The blonde stumbled back a couple steps and quickly hid her cellphone behind her back, "I said I'd be back in like five minutes."
Klaus started making his way down the small hill, grumbling as he did. In the middle of their 'roadtrip' Maleny had practically forced him to stop the car with the excuse she was tired and wanted to stretch her legs. He faulted himself for being so naive to think Maleny wouldn't try contacting Davina.
"So you made your choice, you can at least tell me face to face, Mal," he stopped a couple feet away from her.
Maleny sighed and brought her phone from her back, "I didn't choose her, okay? I was just warning her that we were coming so...she would control herself."
"You met the girl for a couple of months, how the hell can you be...thinking about choosing her?" Klaus was failing to hide his own fear that Maleny may have already picked someone over him.
"I love Davina, she's like a little sister to me," Maleny tried to explain, "and I don't want to see her get hurt."
"You only knew her for a short time, Maleny! Months!" Klaus snapped, making it seem impossible that she could form such a strong attachment to the teen.
Grimly, Maleny said, "I don't see why I have to choose," she turned around, giving him her back as she stared at the crystal blue lake in front of her.
"You knew sooner or later this would happen," Klaus said similar words Davina had without realizing, "One day, she will succeed in hurting one of us and then you'll have to choose what side you're on. So choose!"
"I don't want to," came the childish, low voice as Maleny sat down on a rock, her gaze maintaining itself on the lake.
"Mal!" Klaus exclaimed, more distraught, "I don't know what to think anymore…"
"Why can't you just think that maybe I like Davina, and maybe I like you too," Maleny snapped at him, "and maybe I want all of us to stay alive and just…" she swallowed hard, "...be happy."
Sensing her voice was signaling she would soon begin to cry, Klaus held back another comeback and instead walked over and bent down beside her, taking on a softer tone, "Because those are fantasies, Maleny. This isn't the village anymore - people despise us and it's kill or be killed."
"I-I'm not ready for that," Maleny confessed, meeting his look with her glossy blue eyes. "This curse, it's...it's taken so much away from me that the little that I have I need to preserve. I want to keep it all."
"But witches, vampires and werewolves despise each other. In this particular city, there is no peace amongst us."
"I'm a witch," Maleny gestured to herself, knowing it was a weak response, "Does it seem like I despise you or your family?"
"You're a special exception," Klaus shared a smile with her, "But there's no one else like you, I'm afraid. So we must fight to be safe - so that our loved ones can be safe."
"You're doing this for Hope?" Maleny looked at him, genuinely missing his double implication.
"...yes," Klaus nodded after a moment. If she couldn't make a choice between him and some teenager, would it really matter if he told her he wanted to fight to keep her safe as well? She would just end up making another excuse on why they should just stay 'friends'.
"I don't get it though," Maleny started suspiciously studying him, "Mikael's pretty strong...how are you planning on killing him? Crossed as I am with you I don't want you stupidly going into a fight without a plan."
Klaus smirked and rose to his feet, pulling out Papa Tunde's blade from his jacket's pocket, "You thought I wouldn't take precautions?"
Maleny's eyebrows raised at the familiar weapon, "Oh, goody, Papa Tunde's Mystical-Knife-of-Ludicrous-Torment. Glad that's still around," she got up from her rock seat and made a face at the blade, "I'm telling you right now I will not care for your father."
"Wouldn't let you even if you wanted to," was the response back.
"You wouldn't 'let' me?" Maleny made another face, "Change my mind," she said suddenly, "I do want to care for him."
Klaus just rolled his eyes at her as he put away the blade into his jacket's pocket, "Your sarcasm never ceases to amuse me."
Maleny smiled, "Cos that's what I strive for - being an entertainer," she gasped upon hearing her cellphone ring, "I have service!" she quickly moved to answer it but Klaus snatched the phone from her and raised it up, "Hey!"
"Look at that, it's Davina," he kept her back with a hand on her arm, "Moment of the truth, Mal. Pick a side because it's not going to be pretty."
Maleny stopped struggling and crossed her arms, "I don't want to and I don't think I should have to. I want everyone to be alive, why can't you just kill Mikael instead? He's the one that's dangerous here."
"It seems you've forgotten Davina's warning," Klaus lowered his hand holding the cellphone that stopped ringing shortly afterwards, "She's told you to pick a side as well, meaning she's prepared to go with everything she has. I admire her for that, truthfully," he tilted his head, "But it's not gonna do much for her in the end."
"Klaus, don't do that, please," Maleny resorted to plead for her friend's life, "I will talk to her, I swear, but please don't hurt her."
"Centuries ago that may have worked," Klaus admitted and handed her back the phone, "But centuries ago things weren't as difficult as they are now."
"Time may have changed us but we're still the same underneath…"
"Are we really, Mal?" Klaus stepped towards her, slightly intimidating her with his close gaze, "Centuries ago you would have chosen me in a heartbeat."
Centuries ago, she didn't have many people in her life. Now she had a lot more to care for - Cami, Hayley and Davina. It was difficult to choose - she wasn't used to it!
"I never said I didn't choose you," Maleny weakly said, looking up at him, "I know that's what this whole thing is about. You're angry with me, I get that - I deserve it. But please don't think that I would ever stop caring for you, it's impossible."
Klaus couldn't help his frustration leak out, "Then choose already!" he almost shouted at her. He wanted her to choose because he needed to hear her say 'I pick you' like she always did. He wanted to know that even though such a long time had passed and she had changed so much she still loved him in the end.
But he wouldn't say that out loud.
"I'm sorry," Maleny bit her lip, "But I just don't want to. I want both of you alive, I want both sides alive, alright? I don't think that's a bad thing here."
Klaus stepped back from her, trying to drown all his frustrated shouts, "I will try to consider your thoughts concerning Davina...darling," he added the word with a tensed tone then super-sped away.
"Klaus!" Maleny shouted after him, attempting to run up the hill to catch up but it was impossible and she fell to her knees, "Klaus!" she called again but it was no use.
He had left her - God knows what he would do to Davina out of pure frustration from their argument.

"You can't be serious," Cami declared after hearing Elijah's plan for the day.
"What would make you think I'm not serious?" the Original raised an eyebrow as he shook off his jacket and began rolling up his sleeves of his shirt.
"I don't want to fight you!" Cami shook her head and took two steps back from him.
"Cami, it's very simple, you wanted help and you have it," he gave a shrug.
"Yeah, for the other vampires," the blonde frantically waved a hand to the open door, "And they're training outside with Marcel. Why do we have to train in here?" she gestured to the empty loft, "Why do I have to train at all!?"
"Because you need the help."
Cami huffed, once again feeling like he wanted her to keep needing him...and that was something she wasn't going to take, "Fine," she declared and walked up to him, deciding he could use some punches.
"Whenever you're ready," Elijah motioned he was in place. Cami scrunched her nose before attempting to punch him in the face. However, it was easily caught between Elijah's hand, "As a devout feminist, I refuse to say that you hit like a girl."
Cami narrowed her eyes and stepped back, "You're way out of line today, Elijah, I swear," she attempted another punch but was easily taken down again.
"How so?" Elijah questioned as he blocked another blow from her.
"Acting so triumphant when I called you earlier, for starts," Cami growled as both her hands were restrained by him, "Like you were expecting me to call for help! I mean what was that!?" she went for a kick but that was also blocked off, "And then now, it looks like you enjoy my defenselessness!" she took a breath as she momentarily paused, "I don't want to follow you around anymore. I want to live again."
Elijah then stopped as well, staring at her silently for a minute before uttering the soft words, "It was never my intention to make you feel like that, Camille."
"Then what is your intention?" Cami ran a hand through her hair that'd gotten in her face with the fast movements, "Because it really just feels like you're waiting for me to mess up and call for you."
It would be a lie if Elijah said he didn't know, because of course he knew. The thought merely startled him because he hadn't quite realized it himself. But standing before Cami he could see it now, and perfectly. The only problem was the way she could possibly react to it.
"Well?" Cami asked again, impatience lacing her tone.
"Over the past month that we've been communicating, searching for Maleny, and you coming back to visit...I've grown accustomed to having you close by," Elijah said with a small smile, "Even when Mal returned, we became closer and...when you chose to stay with Gia, and then preferred staying here," he gestured to the loft, "I was a bit...lost."
"Ooh," Cami blinked, the response really taking her back. She felt her heart ping in a way it hadn't before, and before she knew it, she was asking more questions, "What exactly does 'lost' mean in this situation?" before he replied, he motioned for Cami to keep trying and with a small groan she did, "Well?" she asked again.
"I liked having you around," Elijah began again, managing to block one of her attacks but she was beginning to find her rhythm and thus was more tricky to anticipate.
"Because I practically followed you around like a lost puppy," Cami reminded with a sour smile before successfully kicking and pushing him to the wall.
Elijah took advantage that her emotions had become a distraction and easily used a hold on her arm to switch positions with her. Cami sucked in a light breath when she realized how close they were, "Woah…" came out of her mouth before she could think clearly.
Elijah was more intact with reality and was therefore able to clarify Cami's doubts, "This may be out of line as you said but I enjoyed your company up to the point where it...hurt that you chose to stay here."
"I...I didn't mean to," Cami slowly said, feeling guilty even though she was telling the truth.
"I know you didn't," Elijah smiled softly at her, "And, in a way, I technically was waiting for you to call for help...because it seemed like that was the only way I would get to see you again."
Cami's eyes half-widened at the confession, once again only able to utter, "Woah…" she felt her heart rate increase with their proximity and she would really like to know why she was feeling so nervous all of a sudden. It was just Elijah after all...wish his...sweet words...and...nice face...and voice…
"Elijah?" Hayley's voice cut through the moment and immediately saw the distancing of the two vampires. Hayley knew they were just itching to get together and it would happen eventually, she just preferred it to be later so that it wouldn't hurt as much as it did now. "We need to talk," she managed to say without falling apart. As she entered the room Aiden came in behind her.
"What the hell is he doing here!?" Cami angrily moved for him when Elijah grabbed her arm to stop her.
"We're not here for a fight," Hayley quickly clarified, "Just hear him out, okay?"
"Speak," Elijah then ordered the werewolf, "I suggest you be succinct."
Aiden sighed, understanding he wasn't the most welcomed of visitors at the moment, "Please, I need your help."
"I'm sorry, wasn't it one of your orders that all vampires here needed to run?" Cami interjected, "Now you're asking for help?"
"Cami, it's serious," Hayley softly said, making the blonde calm down slightly, "Just listen..."

Maleny walked along the side of road with a heavy breath, making way for Davina's cabin which was still pretty far away by foot. She could not believe Klaus had done to that her...well, she actually kind of could. It hadn't been the first time he'd tried something like that. This time however, he'd gone away because he was hurt. Maleny berated herself for causing so much trouble in the little time she'd been back.
"Stupid, stupid, stupid," she stopped suddenly and sighed as she began taking off her jacket, the heat becoming too much with her speed walking, "You just couldn't give an answer, could you? Course not. That would be to 'easy'."
She was supposed to be telling Klaus she loved him, not that there was someone more important than him. She loved Davina, truly, but if Maleny got to real thinking...the teen wouldn't equal the level Klaus was on. What Klaus had said was true, she'd only known Davina for about a month or so. Yet she'd known Klaus for centuries. In those centuries, whilst there had been plenty of arguments, in the end Maleny always knew she was loved and that he loved her back with equal intensity.
As Maleny folded her jacket, her mind began to wander to those moments...
"Maleny? Maleny, come on out already," called Klaus, grumbling as he went through the forest, "I know you're here, your scent is strong."
He stopped at the sound of footsteps coming towards him, and he couldn't help smirk when he saw the blonde woman emerging between two trees, still seemingly crossed with him as she held an unfinished flower crown in her hands. She pretended to be more interested in it her fingers twisted the small flowers' roots.
"I only came out because I got tired of your shouting," she clarified.
"Thankful, nonetheless," Klaus mocked a bow which made her roll her eyes, "Still upset, I see," he commented once he straightened up.
"What are you talking about? I came out to find more flowers, see?" she gestured to the crown.
Klaus smirked and came towards her, even more amused when she gave him her back, "So, you're no longer upset with me?"
"Of course not," Maleny answered dismissively.
"Great-" Klaus began when Maleny added something else.
"Just as long as you realize we no longer have anything between us."
Anyone else who didn't know Maleny would have been overly concerned with that statement, but Klaus took it with a light chuckle, "Oh, is that so?"
"Mhm," Maleny nodded, focusing on one certain flower that refused to work with her, "Clearly, you have more interest in that woman so you might as well go running for her. She probably has some interest in you, so..." she shrugged.
The jealousy laced in her tone made Klaus feel even more smug about the situation, "And yet," he slid his arms around her waist, making her stop her flower crown work, "my eyes cannot seem to look away from you.
Maleny huffed and dropped her flower crown to the floor, "Tatia can appear to be this happy, kind woman but I know - just like all the other women - that she is a two face," she turned around, "Do you know she also made eyes towards your brother, Elijah? I saw her, with these eyes," she pointed at herself, "Yesterday it was him, today her eyes are set for you and tomorrow they will be set for another. I am only afraid that you will fall under her charms. I am not blind - she is beautiful and young."
"As are you, but you exceed hers and any other woman's," Klaus put a hand on her waist and leaned to rest his forehead on hers, "No one will ever reach you, my darling."
Maleny still seemed unsure of his acclamation and questioned, "Tell me the truth, Klaus," she whispered, "if you had to choose between me and Tatia to...marry," she blushed crimson, "who would you pick?"
Klaus chuckled at the absurdity of the question, "I would pick you in less than a heartbeat."
Maleny gave a crooked smile, "And that also includes any other women who comes up to you? I know vampirism can alter your feelings...so, will it?"
"Absolutely not," Klaus assured her and placed a kiss on her lips.
Maleny giggled as the kiss went on and she was walked up against a tree. She pulled away to take a breath, "Okay, I feel more sure now," she chuckled sheepishly, her cheeks tainted pink.
"That is how I always want you to feel, Maleny," Klaus spoke earnestly as he cupped her face, "I will always choose you over anyone."
Maleny slowly nodded, her heart hammering within her chest, "Okay," she whispered, her hands crawling up to his shoulders, "I guess I can go back to finishing my flower crowns..."
"I have a better idea," Klaus smirked before kissing her again.
Maleny took a deep breath and threw her jacket over her shoulder. She continued to walk whilst thinking back to her sweet memory. He'd promised her she would always come before anyone...and now this was how he was repaid? It wasn't a matter of repaying, Maleny then thought, it was simply a matter of...well, love. He promised her and even now, though angry with her he always came through. Maleny felt even more determined now to get back to him and tell him how much he meant for her.
At the sound of a car getting closer, she turned around and started waving a hand, hoping it would stop by her.

As it turned out, Aiden really was on good terms for the moment. It appeared Esther was planning on forcing young werewolves to trigger their curse in the night. This had both sides, vampires and werewolves actually working together to send the kids deep into the bayou and away from Esther's grasp. It was a detailed plan that was sure to work. It only involved certain people to do their roles as given.
In the party streets of the Quarter, Gia 'drunkenly' ran into one of the werewolf leaders and soon started what looked to be a fight. Just before, Marcel appeared behind the werewolf and snapped his neck. The two vampires glanced at Aiden, appearing to be running away from them.
Aiden, along with the other two leaders, chased after them and left Oliver to take the children away. He led them into Rousseau's where Hayley, Cami and Josh were waiting.
"Ollie, this way!" Hayley motioned for them to hurry in.
Josh had a passage way waiting for them, one hidden behind a cupboard, "It's a passageway from the Prohibition days. It'll take us pretty much anywhere we want to go."
"We better make it quick," Cami ushered the kids into the passageway.
Josh led the way through the tunnels with and flashlight and Hayley motioned to the kids to keep quiet. It would only take a sound to alert the werewolves they were on the move. They came out to a metal gate where Gia was already waiting for them.
"Hey, where's Marcel?" Josh asked quickly.
"Uh, he's getting the getaway car!"
"Hey! Big-mouth! Shut it!" Hayley hissed, earning a glare from Cami, "There are werewolves everywhere."
"She's new," the blonde snapped as they hurried out.
Eventually, they reached the gas station where Marcel had an ambulance acquired for them as a means of a getaway.
"Let's go!" he ordered the kids as he opened up the back doors of the ambulance.
Aiden spotted his younger brother and quickly hugged the kid, "Nick!"
"Aiden! You made it!" the young boy hugged back, relieved to see things were not going to go like that woman, Esther, had ordered it to be.
"Of course I did! I told you I'd be here, didn't I? Go," Aiden ushered his brother into the ambulance and looked about for any remaining kids.
"This worked out well," Gia cheerfully declared as the doors of the ambulance were shut.
"It's not over until we're all together," Cami muttered, unable to feel at peace knowing Elijah was probably handling some sort of fight with the werewolves.

Klaus had finally found Davina's cabin shortly after leaving Maleny. He was pretty irritated to find the nuisance of a spell blocking his view of the interior of the cabin. He found a staff made of wood that bore a mark only owned by his father of course and decided to fling it through the window.
"Enough games, Davina!" he shouted, "Send out my father! Let's finish this!"
Unbeknownst to him, his actions had caused Davina to injure her head and pass out. While her newfound friend, Kaleb, or rather Kol Mikaelson, remained conscious he found himself in a choke-hold by his own father who still didn't know of his true identity.
"Release me! Or I will kill you right now!" Mikael threatened and forced the teen onto the floor.
Outside Klaus only grew more angry, "DAVINA! Is this not why you brought him for? I'm not afraid!"
It wasn't long before he heard the creaking of the front door followed by Mikael's footsteps, "Hello, boy," he greeted in and usual sneer like voice.
Whilst Klaus did feel a bit afraid he certainly didn't show it. He was ready to fight, just like always, and even more since he was already angry. He had more incentives to do so.
"You seem rather impatient," Mikael remarked, "Are you so eager to meet your end? You've bid goodbye to Maleny, I assume?"
The mention of her name out Klaus into a deeper rage, "Do not mention her name, this is between us."
Mikael took it all the same, really uninterested in the blonde woman, "I've traveled all the way back from hell for this moment."
"Well, then, I'd hate to keep you waiting!" Klaus smirked before lunging for a first attack.
Though the hits were almost equal in strength, it was Mikael who eventually kicked Klaus to the ground. In a weakness, he grabbed the hybrid by the neck and intended on finally using the white oak stake when Klaus kicked him back. With a quick stomp on the hand, Klaus was able to reach for the stake. However, Mikael once again had an upper hand and put the hybrid down to the ground again. Whilst holding him down, he tried driving the stake through Klaus' heart. The stake found its way to his shoulder instead, still managing to cause a grand amount of pain to Klaus. But through his pain, Klaus snuck Papa Tunde's blade from his jacket and plunged it through Mikael's chest. With a scream of agony, Mikael fell back to the ground and the blade fully entered into his body.
Klaus managed to pulled the stake from his shoulder and slowly got to his feet. He kept a tight grip on it whilst watching Mikael writhe pain, waiting to see him finally lose conscious. He had about fifteen minutes of silence before he heard familiar shouts.
"I hate you! I hate you! I hate you!" he heard from the trees and looked up to see Maleny running towards him. She stopped and leaned on her knees to catch her breath, "I swear to God that is the last time you leave me behind. You owe me a new jacket!" she panted for air, her eyes scanning the area, "Davina, is she…?"
"Fine," Klaus rolled his eyes, figuring she would care more for the teen, "She'll wake with a spectacular headache, but given her intentions for me, she should count herself lucky."
"Thank you," Maleny finally stood straight and took a deep breath to gather her bearings.
"'Course, if you drop dead of a heart attack, I may have to kill her on general principle."
"You ditched me you jerk!" Maleny scowled and ran a hand through her hair, "I had to hitch-hike and then run on the backroads of the Bayou!"
"Well, your perseverance is duly noted," Klaus said, eyeing her with some amusement but mostly irritation, "Davina will be most pleased."
Maleny rolled her eyes, "I will brand you as the stupidest man alive if you seriously think I did all this for Davina," she rushed up to him and hugged him, leaving him startled for a second or two.
It didn't take long for him to hug back, momentarily relieved to hear he'd been her motivation.
Maleny pulled away wearing a crooked smile as she placed her hands on either side of his face, "Are you okay? You're not screaming so I assume no white oak stake was used here."
"I'm not in pain," Klaus turned them behind where Mikael laid on the ground.
"Is...is he still alive?" Maleny blinked.
"No, I decided death was far too easy for him and so I left him in agony."
"Nice," Maleny chuckled then looked at him, "I mean...not nice, that's totally bad, but…" she rolled her eyes, "You know what I mean."
Klaus smiled in amusement, unaware his arm had found its way around her waist.

Later that day, the vampires regrouped in Marcel's loft to celebrate their triumph against Esther. Hayley watched Marcel pour her a drink for their celebration and gladly took it, "Well, we did it! I never thought I'd see the day when "we" meant us."
"Well, you're a vampire now. First rule is never say never, 'cause never ain't that long," Marcel laughed with her, "And, what we did today was the right thing. But, you know it's gonna make things worse between your people and mine."
Off to the side, standing in front of a window was Cami who blankly stared out. Gia came over with two drinks in hand, intending on celebrating as well.
"Cheer up, we did it," she nudged Cami and motioned to take the glass.
"I can't count it as a triumph until Elijah walks in," Cami quietly said but nonetheless took the glass.
"And he will," Hayley approached the two women, easily noticing the stiffening in Cami, "It's alright, Cami. You're not doing anything bad so why hide your concern?"
Cami wearily looked at the brunette, "We're not...he and I...it's not what…" she sighed and returned her gaze to the window, "It's not what it looks like, nor what anyone thinks."
"What ever it is, it's okay," Hayley assured, understanding her nervousness, "We're all free here. So, will you finally be coming back home?"
Cami exchanged glances with Gia, and Gia immediately excused herself away. Cami cleared her throat and turned to Hayley, "I'm not sure."
"Why'd you leave? Mal was so distraught about it. I don't get it, aren't you two cousins?"
"That's just it, we're not. We're not family," Cami shook her head, "She's, whether or not she wants to admit it, a Mikaelson...just like you are. I'm not. I'm not part of that family I'm just someone who got caught in a crossfire."
"So was I," Hayley felt the need to remind, even raising a hand.
"But you're different," Cami said, frustrated, "You know how to fight, you're not afraid. Plus, c'mon Hayley, you had Klaus' child. That's an unbreakable link. Mal has a centuries old love story with him. I've got nothing with anyone.
"So that's why you left, then?" Hayley raised an eyebrow, "Because you think you're not a part of the 'family'?"
Cami sighed, "I know you think it's stupid, but it's how I feel okay? Before I came here I went back to the compound to talk to Mal about me starting college now but I found you and her having a conversation, and laughing, and…" she shook her head, "It just felt like I didn't belong there."
"Maleny loves you, Cami. You are family, whether you think or not," Hayley put a hand on her arm, wearing an honest smile on her face, "You're one of us."
Cami gave a small smile back, a little more inclined to believe that. However, once she remembered Elijah still wasn't around she looked back at out the window, any source of happiness fading away.

After Mikael had been loaded into the car, Klaus begrudgingly returned to the cabin where Maleny and Kol (still in his Kaleb charade) were checking the unconscious Davina inside.
"I think we should get her to a hospital," Maleny spoke with a frantic concern.
Kol glanced to see Klaus at the doorway, still unable to enter without the invitation, "Oh. Hello, darling. Back to huff and puff and blow the house down?"
Klaus raised an eyebrow, his hand gripping the white oak stake, "You know, it's funny how often a person's sharp tongue can end up cutting their own throat."
"Don't waste energy on a kid, Klaus," Maleny looked at him wearily, "He's just scared."
"Yeah, she's right," Kol quickly said but then added, "You know, you may want to try a bit of lavender under your pillow. Does wonders for stuck-up pillocks with anger issues."
Maleny then turned on him, irritated, "That wasn't an invitation for you to be a jerk either. Shut up."
"I promised not to kill Davina. I said nothing of this insolent sod," Klaus reminded to Maleny, glaring at Kol who only smirked back.
"Boys, please," Maleny sighed as she gave Davina a last look before coming out to meet Klaus, though moving him away from the cabin for security measures, "Okay look, the quicker we get Davina to the hospital the quicker we leave the kid behind. So…?" she held a hand out, motioning she wanted the keys.
With a deep sigh, Klaus handed the car keys over to her, "Fine."
"Thank you," Maleny beamed, "And this is not to mean I pick her okay?" she clarified afterwards.
"Well," once he handed her the stake he gripped her hand, pulling her closer, "does that mean you've made your choice, then? A clear one?"
Maleny swallowed down and gathered her courage, "I think we need to talk after this. I have something important to tell you."
Klaus nodded, agreeing to her terms, "Then let's hurry."
"Thanks," Maleny smiled and hurried towards the car, her heart thumping as she thought of how she would tell him her feelings.
Klaus started back for the cabin, thinking of ways to restrain himself and not kill Kaleb if he made another remark. The boy was as irritating as all the humans commonly were, only this one had something extra.
"You've got a way with words," he commented to the teen once he reached the porch again. Kol looked up from Davina, "You seem to have crossed continents to order to weasel your way into Davina's good graces, thereby meddling in my family business. Strange, isn't it?"
Kol simply smirked, knowing it wouldn't be long before Klaus figured it out.
"Unless it's your family business," Klaus continued, "You know, ever since my mother and Finn showed up, I was wondering when you might make an appearance, Kol."
Kol laughed and mocked a bow towards his brother, "Then the jig is up! Hello, brother!"
"It's not that I begrudge you hitching a ride back to the land of the living. It's just that you're making all the wrong friends, brother. And, I have half a mind to show you how wrong you are."
Kol swayed his way up to the porch, "But you're not going to do that, are you? Because good ole Mal told you to leave me alone. She hasn't changed much, has she?" he pretended to look out in search for Maleny, "I'm curious, does she take one of those little baggies out when she takes you for a walk?"
Klaus angrily called out to Maleny, "Maleny? I changed my mind, I am going to kill him after all," Kol smirked again, but the eerie silence that had fallen put Klaus on edge, "Maleny?" he called again and turned towards the driveway. Still, there was no response.
He hurried to the driveway and found the car door of the driver side open and the window smeared with blood. He rushed to the trunk of the car and saw it was also open and with no Mikael inside.
Mikael had taken Maleny.

notyetneedcoffee hit 2000
Alrighty all you darlings, this is my first challenge. We’ll see if I can keep my act together enough for this. I’ll be fine. Right? Yeah. Just frickin’ spiffy.
Okay, the PLAN goes like this. Since I use all my own manips to head my stories, I’m going to provide Marvel character manips and various weird writing prompts. You do not need to be one of my followers to participate. Feel free to share. Everyone is welcome to play.
The field is pretty open in regards to what you write; fluff, angst, smut, action, whatever. Long or short, however you write. I only ask to be careful around a couple things; dub/con is fine, but please tread carefully with non/con (and give warnings), no underage smut. Also, this is a Marvel character challenge, but AUs are okay (even though I don’t write them myself).
RULES
Message me with you Picture Choice and the Number of the Prompt(s) you want. Up to three different people can pick the same picture. Each person can pick 1 or 2 prompts to go with the picture they choose. I’ll message you the picture with the confirmation.
Deadline will be February 1, 2020.
If you write a long piece, use the Read More cut. If you write a multi chapter series, please be aware that only the first post will likely end up in my Challenge Masterlist, so please use links.
If you write Drabbles, Bravo! I’m jealous. I suck at them.
When you post please tag me at @notyetneedcoffee and use the hashtag #NeedCoffees2k so I can find them all and gather them in a library on my Masterlist.
Pictures and Prompts are below the cut!

WRITING PROMPTS
There was a secret meeting tonight and you’d never make it if you couldn’t find your pants.
“Oh my God, is that an Ice Cream Truck?”
You should have never looked that up on the internet.
“How did you know to kiss me there?”
And there it was, your biggest secret on the 10 o’clock news. (@buckysknifecollection w/ Picture 4)
“Hey, anything is murder weapon if you’re creative enough.”
He pulled on the Care Bear tee shirt and smiled.
“Hey, you’re the one who kidnapped me, remember?”
Why was the floor covered in broken glass?
The leather felt soft and warm. (@wildmoonflower w/Picture 15)
“THAT’S your password?!”
You could taste traces of salt and smoke on his skin. (@wildmoonflower w/Picture 15)
Who knew such a big guy would be afraid of a little spider?
You never expected him to bring you a cupcake.
He looked so young in the photograph.
A blood curdling scream interrupted the movie.
That tree was dead, no denying it.
Of all days not to wear underwear, why today?
“Is wrong that I like that so much?”
He ended up covered in dog fur.
The sound of crying pulled you out of a sound sleep.
“I haven’t tried this on an actual person yet, but it should be okay.”
The minute the sweet, pungent scent registered in your brain, I knew it was too late.
A tiny key fell out of your pocket and you had no idea how it got there.
“Come on, man! Don’t make me do this alone!”
Dammit, that was your favorite bra.
“After all this time, you would think I would be used to weird.”
The hoodie smelled like him.
“Ha! You’re ticklish!”
Waking up to bright lights and the smell of disinfectant is never a good sign.
That sofa would never be the same again.
"I am not eating that.”
Well, that was a malfunction if ever there was one.
Finding him tied up in the kitchen was not the strangest thing to happen that week.
The shouts echoed clear across the floor.
“Touch her again and lose that hand.” (@wkemeup w/ Picture 20)
“I know it’s stupid to cry over a pair of jeans.”
“Um, I think she’d like the pink one.”
You knew laughing was inappropriate, but the corpse looked hilarious.
He sat off on his own, staring into nothingness, while the party raged around him. (@lancsnerd w/ Picture 17)
“I haven’t heard this song in years!”
A small herd of baby miniature goats ran out of the elevator. (@the-omni-princess w/ Picture 20)
Cake for breakfast seemed like a great idea.
The upside-down car in the lobby should have been worrisome.
“I just want a cup of coffee!”
The sound of soft snores felt comforting.
Water washed away all the evidence as it spiraled down the drain.
“I’m not the person you think I am.”
The cake exploded everywhere.
It felt like coming home. (@the-omni-princess w/ Picture 20)

John Wayne Gacy:
“I should never have been convicted of anything more serious than running a cemetery without a license.” -- John Wayne Gacy, “A clown can get away with murder.” -- John Wayne Gacy. Who is John Wayne Gacy? What makes him a serial killer? How was he caught? American serial killer whose killings of 33 boys and young men in the 1970s attracted international media coverage and stunned his affluent Chicago neighborhood, where he was renowned for his sociability and success as a clown at charitable events and children's parties.
Gacy was raised into a blue-collar family and seems to have had a pretty ordinary upbringing. Yet he displayed an increasing inclination towards sadism, which resulted in a number of experiences with the law in the 1960s. In 1968, after his accusation that he had sexually assaulted a teenage boy, he was sentenced to the Iowa State Men's Reformatory (Anamosa State Penitentiary) and forced to undergo psychological evaluation. Following his release in 1970 and while still on parole, he was again arrested for sexual assault, but the charges were dropped later. In December 1978, the police found the first of 29 bodies buried in the affluent billionaire John Wayne Gacy's estate—26 in the crawl space beneath his residence in Norwood Park Township, and three more outside the building. He admitted to four further victims ' killings discovered in the waters south of Chicago. Forty years later, here's a roadmap to Gacy's trial, prosecution and execution, and ongoing attempts to identify the other six missing survivors. Gacy then became a fairly successful independent contractor and bought a house in Chicago's suburbs.
In 1975 teens in the uptown community inform the Chicago police that a man named "John" is circling the city in his car to pick up young people. It's John Wayne Gacy, a suburban man who runs a remodeling company. Officers are watching dozens of young men in and out of Gacy's house in Norwood Park Township. They're stopping many of them for questioning, but they don't say anything against Gacy. He is popular in his family to hold get-togethers and sometimes dress up as Pogo the Clown. In January of 1976 the police stake out John Wayne Gacy’s Home. Suspecting that Gacy might be responsible for the disappearance of a 9-year-old boy, the Chicago Police Youth Division is monitoring his house just east of O'Hare International Airport, although it is outside their jurisdiction. They're not in a position to make a case against Gacy.
“No, I don't think that's possible. I think it...after 14 years under truth serum had I committed the crime I would have known it. There's got to be something that would... would click in my mind. I've had photos of 21 of the victims and I've looked at them all over the years here and I've never recognized anyone of them.” -- John Wayne Gacy. Then in March of 1977 Gacy was suspected by police of a sexual assault. Twenty-seven-year-old North Sider Jeff Rignall says that Gacy lured him into his car by offering him marijuana before using chloroform to make him unconscious. Rignall claims Gacy then brought him to his home, arrested him, then sexually assaulted him before he let him leave. A $3,000 civil suit was dismissed in the incident. On December 31st, 1977 police had seized Gacy but then released him. He was charged by Chicago police when a 19-year-old North Side youth claims he was kidnapped by a gunpoint guy and compelled to participate in sexual acts. The police document reveals that when he was brought into custody, Gacy acknowledged that he was participating in activities with the youth—and their brutality—but declined to encourage the child to participate. The Deputy State Attorney chooses not to charge Gacy.
In December 11, 1978 a young boy by the name Robert Piest who was a 15-year-old sophomore at Maine West High School goes missing. Piest says to his mother to wait for a couple of minutes, because he has to see a man who pays 5 $/hour for a construction job, almost twice as much as he does in the drug store. But he has not been seen again. Then on December 12th, 1978 Lt. Kozenczak, whose son is attending the same high school as Piest, is insisting on a thorough investigation. He learns that Gacy, whose PDM Contractors had recently remodeled Nisson Pharmacy, was the man Piest went to talk about a job. Gacy was then asked to come to the station for investigation.
The next day on December 13th, 1978 Gacy leads police to a search warrant because he denied everything he was being charged with. Later investigators discover that Gacy's car was towed at 2 a.m. from a snowbank. On the Tri-State Tollway north of Ogden Avenue— about 38 miles north of where Gacy later claimed to have dumped the body of Piest. The tow truck company's reports help investigators assess the moment Gacy disposed of the youth's body within an hour. Around 3:20 a.m., Gacy marches with mud on his pants and shoes to the Des Plaines police station. He asks for a conversation with Kozenczak but is told to return later. He returns and gives a brief statement to the officers. Kozenczak asks Gacy to give him a search warrant for the keys to his house. Gacy is protesting but giving up his keys. Then December 21st, 1978 Gacy was arrested. Gacy is seen as passing a package containing cannabis to a gas station clerk while under police surveillance. According to Gacy, then arrested. Investigators were informed that Gacy has already confirmed that he has conducted "maybe 30" killings to his attorney. With Gacy in custody, police from Des Plaines and investigators from the office of Cook County sheriff get a warrant and enter Gacy's one-story. Police accuse Gacy against his will to hold Piest there and threaten to tear the floor to find the body of the teen. Gacy denies that Piest is there but says he was forced to kill a self-defense man and buried him under his garage's concrete floor. He directs police to the driveway and labels the place on the ground where the corpse is found with a can of spray paint., ranch-style house again.
On December 22nd, 1978 Gacy Finally confesses. "(Gacy's) giving all kinds of statements, saying there's a body here, a body there, a body in a lake or a lagoon, a body buried.” -- Cook County Sheriff Richard Elrod. In a rambling, repetitive speech that continues for several hours, Gacy tells police that after having sex with them, he murdered 32 young men. He speaks about himself in the third person, claiming "Jack" or "John" performed the murders and sex acts. He claims he hid the corpses of 27 people on his estate (29 would be found), most of them in the crawl space. Five other corpses (four would be found by police), including Piest's, have been dumped into waterways south of Chicago, claims Gacy. He sketches a diagram showing where the bodies are buried, offering six of his victims ' addresses. Gacy was convicted of the assassination of Piest, although the corpse of the teenager was not identified. December 26, 1978 the police find eight bodies in the crawlspace in Gacy’s home; but nine bodies were recovered. " ... one of the most horrendous (cases) I have ever had anything to do with."-- Cook County State's Attorney Bernard Carey. eight so far from the crawl space in the northeast quarter of the house, in an area under the office where Gacy conducted his remodeling business.
The Police have found thirty-two bodies but only five were not identified. The victims of John Wayne Gacy are: John Butkovich (18 years old), James Mazzara (20 years old), Frank Landingin (19 years old), Gregory Godzik ( 17 years old), John Szye (19 years old), Rick Johnston (17 years old), Timothy Jack McCoy (16 years old), Michael Bonnin (17 years old), Robert Gilroy (18 years old), Jon Prestidge (20 years old), Russell Nelson (21-22 years old), Victim No. 28 (14-18 years old), Victim No. 5 (22-32 years old), Darrel Samson (19 years old), Samuel Stapleton (14 years old), Randall Reffett (15 years old), William Carroll (16 years old), Victim No. 26 (22-30 years old), Jimmy Haakenson (16 years old), Victim No. 21 (21-27 years old), William George Bundy (19 years old). Michael Marino (14 years old), Kenneth Parker (16 years old), Victim No. 10 (17-21 years old), Matthew Bowman (18 years old), John Mowery (19 years old), Robert Winch (18 years old), Tommy Boling (20 years old), David Talsma (20 years old), William Kindred (19 years old), Timothy O’Rourke (20 years old), and Robert Piest (15 years old).
"I don't know what this trial cost. Whatever the cost, it was a small price. My voice is cracking because I really feel it's a small price we pay for our freedom. What we do for the John Gacy’s of this world, we will do for everyone." -- Judge Louis Garippo. March 13th, 1980 John Wayne Gacy has been sentenced to death. Judge Garippo imposes an execution date for John Wayne Gacy for June 2, 1980, but the penalty is indefinitely postponed while the case is brought before the Supreme Court of Illinois. On May 15th,1980 Gacy’s Lawyers; Sam Amirante and Robert Motta who have been paid each of the amount of $44,424 for defending Gacy have withdrawn from the case and then they billed the county $57,603 for expenses. Then his judge-Judge Garippo resigns from the bench after twelve years as a Cook County Judge to go into private practice. "If his lawyers believed that deluging the court with paper at the last instant would lead us to delay the execution in order to have more time to read the documents, they were mistaken."-- Judge Frank Easterbrook, U.S. Court of Appeals. Gacy finally died after a lethal injection of drugs at 12:58 a.m., with all his civil challenges rejected. At the Corrections Facility in Stateville near Joliet and Fried chicken and butterfly shrimp was his last meal.

My Favourite Reads of 2019
What are my favourite books I have read in 2019? As I write this, I have read 130 books this year according to Goodreads. Now, the year has not ended, and I shall most certainly read some more books, but one has to find time to write posts such as these, so I am writing mine a little early (should I happen to read something absolutely amazing, I shall simply add it to this post). The rules are simple: I am going to split this into fiction and non-fiction, and the books that go on this list must have been read in 2019 for the first time (alas, my darling Rebecca, I have read you many a time over the years, and so you shan’t go on this list). I have also tried to limit this list to no more than 15 books; that’s roughly 10% of what I have read, and should be enough. Let’s go!
Fiction
Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado A collection of dark, fabulist short stories. This book won all sorts of prestigious prizes, and it is easy to see why. It may not be for everyone, but it sure as hell ticked a lot of boxes for me.
The Last Nude by Ellis Avery The story behind a famous painting. Rafaela becomes the muse of a painter who will garner ever-lasting fame with the paintings she makes of Rafaela. Apart from painting, there is also plenty of lesbian love, deceit, and historical detail. A heart-ripper of a book.
Twee Vrouwen (Two Women) by Harry Mulisch Speaking of a heart-ripper of a book: Twee Vrouwen probably takes the cake this year. Before Portrait of a Lady on Fire took the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice as a point of departure for a lesbian love story, there was Twee Vrouwen, the love story between Laura and Sylvia. A sad ending if there ever was one, but so beautifully told.
The Dressmaker by Rosalie Ham I saw the film before I saw the book, and loved it for its quirkiness, dark humour, and of course for the killer fashion. The book most certainly lived up to the film. Myrtle, a successful fashion designer, returns to her home town in Australia in 1951 where she left when she was still a child under tragic circumstances. She finds that most town folk have not altered their opinion of her, and probably never will. I’m incredibly impressed with the amount of characters Ham vividly brings to life in such a short novel.
Once Upon A River by Diane Setterfield I confess I skipped parts of this book; it was unbearably suspenseful, and I simply had to know! Also I knew parts were going to HURT and so I wanted to minimise the pain. Once Upon a River tells the story of a small English town and its inhabitants. The status quo is challenged when the body of a small girl is found in the river. Initially thought to be a corpse, the child comes to live again, which seems to be nothing short of a miracle. Soon, three different parties lay claim to the child.
The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt I’m late to the party, I confess. The Goldfinch is about Theo Decker, who survives a terrorist attack on a museum. During this attack, he loses his mother, but gains the world-famous painting of the goldfinch. I think no one but Donna Tartt could have written this story. The middle was a little long, but the ending was incredibly suspenseful, and the writing lush.
The Assassination of Margaret Thatcher by Hilary Mantel A collection of short stories that I could not help but love. This book was my introduction to Hilary Mantel; my sister had read the first two books of her Wolf Hall trilogy, but those massive books simply don’t appeal to me. Her short stories most definitely did. Dark, a little scary, sometimes funny; just a great collection that will stay with me for a long time.
Fludd, also by Hilary Mantel The story of a dull, mean, Catholic English village in the 1950s which gets shaken up by the sudden arrival of Fludd, who may be a Catholic priest, the devil himself, or a mystical alchemist from medieval times. This novel is extremely strange, but just like her short story collection The Assassination of Margaret Thatcher, I found this one dark and funny and interesting.
The Scapegoat by Daphne du Maurier An Englishman travelling through France finds his doppelganger. After a night of heavy drinking, he wakes to find that his doppelganger Jean has taken his clothes and other possessions, leaving John no choice but to take over Jean’s life. As the title leads us to suspect, John becomes the scapegoat for Jean’s sins, and tries to right them. A strange, slightly outrageous premise for a novel perhaps, but Du Maurier makes it utterly believable.
Folk by Zoe Gilbert A collection of short stories which all take place on an island imbued with magic. These stories work perfectly well on their own, but what makes this novel extra interesting is that they are all connected. The writing style was charming, the magic original, and the characters convincing.
Pure by Andrew Miller A French engineer called Jean is tasked with the breaking down of the Paris cemetery of Les Innocents, which is stuffed to bursting with corpses. His tackling of this momentous task is the red thread throughout this charming novel, which is about far more than the moving about of bones. This book gave me pure writing envy; I wish I could bring characters to life with just a handful of words as convincingly as Miller!
The Wicked Cometh by Laura Carlin An extremely suspenseful novel set in Victorian England, in which the protagonist comes to work for the somewhat eccentric lady Rebekah. Together, they set out to solve a string of kidnappings and cases of people mysteriously disappearing. Also, there’s lesbianism AND a happy ending, so what’s not to love?
Non-Fiction
The Complete Maus by Art Spiegelman This graphic novel explores the life of Art Spiegelman’s father, a holocaust survivor. The art style is a bit simplistic at time, but the story is incredibly powerful. One of the main things I loved about this book was that Spiegelman did not shy away from portraying his complicated relationship with his father; the man was controlling and domineering and sometimes impossible to live with, but the deeper we dig into his past, the more we come to understand how much he has been shaped by the trauma of the war.
The Anatomical Venus by Joanna Ebenstein This book explores the phenomenon of the anatomical Venus, a series of waxwork models of beautiful women who can be dissected. They were first made in the late eighteenth century as an alternative to autopsy of human corpses. Ebenstein places these models in their historical context whilst also exploring why modern-day audiences have such a strong response of horror and disgust for these objects that were once considered the perfect combination of art, religion, and science.
How to Create the Perfect Wife by Wendy Moore In this novel, Moore investigates Thomas Day, an eighteenth-century British writer and radical. This guy did a whole lot of things, but nowadays he is probably remembered mostly for his abolitionism and his wife-rearing project. After being hurt in love a couple of times, Day decided that if he could not find the perfect wife, he would create one. To this purpose, he took two foundling girls out of the orphanage and groomed them. The novel explores the historical context in which this happened, as well as Day’s life, the two girls whom he selected, and the lives of several of his close friends.
On to more great novels in 2020!

‘Great fic in no time’ – round-up of the MFMM flashfic
Last weekend we had the MFMM flashfic challenge, and what a wonderful response we had!
No less than 21 fics were written by 15 writers – and some of them hadn’t even meant to write, but were swayed by the enticing prompts. 15 of 40 prompts were used. The blood, sweat, and tears were visible all over the continents!
Here is a round-up of all the fics, to make them easier to dive into and enjoy. Please write a flash comment if you have the time when reading!
Have fun!
Heat one:
@firesign23, Murder, Mayhem, and Romantic overtures – Eight months and ten thousand miles away from an airfield that smelled of autumn grass baking in the sun, Phryne Fisher saw Jack Robinson again shortly after arriving at a party in Mayfair. To absolutely noone’s surprise, it was over a corpse.
@teaandbanjo, Murder, Mayhem, and Romantic overtures – A cat, a constable, and a Lady's Companion. Everyone gets a snack.
@loopyhoopyfrood, Stained Glass – A girl prays in the light of a stained glass window.
@whopooh, Hugh Has A Secret – Hugh has a secret. Jack can read his constable like an open book.
Heat two:
@ohrosewhatsinaname/Allison_Wonderland, Nearness of You – The reveled in it, the nearness of love. A double Drabble.
@omgimsarahtoo, The Nearness of You – As the investigation in Queenscliff continues, Phryne contemplates how being close to Jack makes her feel.
@geenee27, A Matter of Trust – Phryne has always been a master at projecting a facade of bravado and devil-may-care. Thank goodness she has Elizabeth Macmillan, who has known her too bloody long.
@firesign23, A Matter of Trust – Jack contemplates the photographic plates. (A 1x03 mid-episode insert for the flashfic challenge.)
Heat 3:
Plausible_Deniability, Porchlight – A bit of free verse entirely prompted by the flash fic title prompt "Porchlight". Seriously, who would write something from the perspective of Jack's porchlight without that prompt ;-)
@ohrosewhatsinaname/Allison, Porchlight – A warming light at the end of the day. Another double Drabble.
@firesign23, Porchlight – Margaret waits up.
@flashofthefuse, The Secret Life of Mrs. Prudence Stanley – “Ah, you wouldn’t like it, Mother,” Guy said, with the condescension of a pat on the head. “It’s made with figs.”
@912luvjaxlean, The Secret Life of Mrs. Prudence Stanley – Sometimes food is all we have.
@omgimsarahtoo, A Fear of Shallow Living – Phryne and Jack contemplate acting on the heat between them. (This takes us into AU territory of Dead Man's Chest.) OK, so RositaLG practically dared me to write a smutty follow-up to The Nearness of You, so she's to blame for this one. (Thank you, lovely!) There wasn't time for a full-on smutfest, but it's something, anyway!
Heat 4:
@mountainana, Make You Feel My Love – After their blockbuster hit "Let's Misbehave" our favorite singing detectives take on another duet. -- A new MFMM writer -- welcome!
@912luvjaxlean, In The Pool Of Holy Writing – Jack experiences renewal with his priestess of the bath.
@aurora-australis-tumbles, Whispers – There had always been whispers about Jack Robinson and his wife...
@detectivephryne, Memory is a Stranger – When Phryne's memory is wiped back to the time of her childhood, Jack comes to the rescue.
Flash free fics:
@mountainana, No Darkness but Ignorance – Jack has a recurring nightmare.
@heavyheadedgal, An Apple a Day – ...keeps the doctor away. Or not, as Rosie learns.
@suigeneris221b, Only On Days That End In 'Y' – Phryne relives memories in her garden. (Please note the warning for character death.)
That was all for now! Thank you all participating, with prompts, writing and cheers. See you again soon for new challenges!
(flashfic slogan in the title curtesy of @aurora-australis-tumbles)

Oh, Lord.
Okay, let’s do this thing:
1. Who likes to sit in the other’s lap?
Paul, definitely.
He really enjoys the first few times he does it to Daryl when Daryl looks up at him like he can’t quite figure out how Paul got there from A to B but isn’t about to question it.
The first time he sits in Aaron’s lap, it’s almost alarming how red he turns. He…probably should have given him some warning, given the small, “Oh!” that came out of Aaron but the blush never really goes away, no matter how many times he does it.
2. On a cold day, who likes to snuggle up to the other?
SNUGGLE PILE.
No, really, these three snuggle all the time and I have many feelings on the subject.
Daryl is an actual touch-starved person. Like he puts on that it’s this big ridiculous thing that he’s only reluctantly apart of? No, that boy is the epitome of five-more-minutes and must-be-touching-most-of-your-person while cuddling.
Meanwhile, Paul is a firm outside-position-cuddler. This is partially because he doesn’t always tie his hair back in bed and there have been “incidents”…Mostly involving one of them eating or being tickled by his hair, but also one very special occasion where a hand got tangled. (Also, big spoon/Jetpacking!Paul is a wonderful thing.)
Then there’s Aaron, who is by far the best cuddler among them. He’s like a giant teddy bear, the easiest person in the world to receive/give physical affection from merely because he is so warm and concerned with how comfortable you are.
3. Who cooks the food and who does the dishes?
Daryl mostly cooks with Aaron occasionally taking a turn. Paul’s on dish duty.
4. How would they describe each other to loved ones who haven’t met their partner yet?
Paul (about Aaron/Daryl): Aaron’s the most considerate man I’ve ever been with. I mean, he’s gone through a lot but he’s really and truly one of the strongest and most gentle people I know. He deserves to be happy and I think…I think we do that for him. We try. Daryl is a little more complicated. He can seem pretty tough, like he doesn’t need anyone or anything, but it’s not true. He just…loves intensely and knows what it’s like to be the one left standing. That kind of love, it’s harder to understand, but once you do? You’re not gonna let it go. I won’t.
Aaron (about Daryl/Paul): Daryl’s a little rough around the edges but he’s also the most loyal man I know. He’s got good instincts about people and when he lets them in…they’re his. He’d die for his people in a heartbeat. You just hang on and accept it…and, if you’re Paul and I, you make him yours too. Paul has that kind of energy, you know. Peaceful. Mischievous. You talk to him for a few minutes and it’s the most comfortable you’ll ever feel around someone. He’s got a lot more going on though. It’s never difficult but you can see him making every effort to make it easy. It took a long time for him to feel comfortable enough to let things go and accept we were here for the long haul.
Daryl (about Paul/Aaron): They’re both fucking ridiculous, man. One day, after we’d gone on some scoutin’ mission north of Hilltop, Paul gives some idiot line about how, if one of us don’t come back, ain’ none of us comin’ back ‘cause we’re all ‘Ride or Die and Too Dumb to Fly’ and he and Aaron start laughing their asses off. S’pose that’s more Paul, he’s been a little shit from day one, but it was the first time I’d see Aaron really laugh since he lost Eric. Think that’s when I knew, lookin’ at the two of ‘em.
IDK where that Daryl one went, don’t mind me.
5. Who is more likely to kiss their partner on their forehead?
Aaron. He’s easily the most expressive between the three when it comes to kissing in public and it’s always small, sweet gestures like a forehead/nose kisses. However, though you definitely didn’t ask, Paul is a blatant cheek kisser – greetings, good mornings, “you look adorable” moments? You get a patented Paul Rovia cheek kiss and it is the sweetestthing.
6. Who makes a scrapbook of all their memories to give to their partner for a special event? Ex- anniversary, birthday, etc.
Aaron. Taking pictures is a thing with Aaron and, while he doesn’t take pictures of everything, you better believe he’s got a scrapbook already handy of the best part of his life with Paul/Daryl.
7. Where would they go to get away from everyone else and just be alone?
SCOUTING MISSIONS FTW!
8. Who would want to take cute pictures for Instagram?
Aaron, hands down.
9. Who would most likely call their partner, dude, babe and idiot, all in the same sentence?
I can’t see Daryl saying dude. Between Aaron and Paul, I lean towards Paul.
10. How do they let their loved ones know they are dating?
This one is harder for me to say because I don’t really have a headcanon for who hooks up first, Aaron and Daryl or Aaron and Paul or Daryl and Paul. But I guess one couple is already a couple in my mind and everyone is aware - if only by simple observation - that they are a couple before they propose a poly relationship with whomever that person is. At that point, maybe they explain themselves? For convenience sake?
IDK, or maybe they just decide not to give a fuck what anyone else thinks.
11. Who breaks out in a dance when they hear their favorite song and who joins their partner dancing no matter what they are currently doing?
If Paul is being a particularly light-hearted idiot and starts dancing out of the blue, Aaron is the easiest to convince to join. He’s kind of horrible at it - has all the dad moves that scream awkward white guy - but his eyes brighten and he throws himself into it without shame. Daryl, on the other hand, does not immediately jump in. However, leaving him on the sidelines is not an option that either Aaron or Paul like, so one or both if them will come over and grab his hand. He bitches and moans the whole way but eventually goes along with it because they’re happy and that’s reason enough.
12. If they each went to go buy an outfit for one another, what would they get?
I take your “boyfriends buy my outfit” challenge and raise you Aaron, Daryl, and Paul buying each other ugly Christmas sweaters. Like, the worst things imaginable. Paul’s has a picture of Jesus in a party hat, holding a candy cane with the words BIRTHDAY BOY written above him. Daryl has one with a stuffed, mounted deer head, a wreath around it’s neck and ornaments hanging from its antlers. Aaron’s, probably the best of them all, has a pair of well-proportioned ornaments with the words JINGLE BALLS written in glitter. (It also lights up.)
Up to you who gave which to whom.
13. Who still blushes when their partner compliments them?
Aaron, more than anyone. Not deep blushes but frequent pinks cheeks for him.
14. What memories do they share together that will stay with them forever?
Two men alone in a car with the smell of cigarette smoke and rotting corpses beating their hands on the outside, eyes locked in agreement as they decide together; sitting on the stairs, looking down at the familiar face behind a gun, and smiling; a man in quiet admiration in an open field as another man gives a well-placed kick that takes down three walkers, a grin present on the man’s face as he teases him; one man, on his knees with grief on an empty grave as another man sits next to him and pulls him close; two men across from him, both sounding certain and optimistic as resounding hope makes his stomach do somersaults; three men in bed with their limbs tangled, half asleep, still muttering drowsy I love yous and leaving kisses wherever their mouths land
15. Who would dedicate a song to their partner at a karaoke night? Bonus - what song would it be and why?
I’ve mentioned this before, but karaoke night is alllllll Paul (and possible Daryl if he gets drunk enough). I can just see them doing a duet of Hurts So Good by John Mellencamp and dedicating it to a very red and sober Aaron. (Sidenote, why is it always 80s music and Aaron?)
Thanks for the ask, sweets!
send me a ship

‘The AfD declares autistic climate activist to be “mentally challenged” and firms-up its campaign platform around the idea of publicly ridiculing a teenager.’ Throw their pathetic fear of a teen back in their faces. Mock them at every opportunity. Smear their faces in their own shit until they can’t breathe without opening their mouths to swallow it. Remind them always that they are small and weak and frightened by a 15 year old - jeer them, giggle in their presence them, howl with laughter every time they try and pass their crayon scrawl as policy. Make their every waking second a taunting Mean Girls hell in which they can never be free of the knowledge that everyone knows they’re nothing but a pathetic joke. And every time they try and draw strength from that, to try and don the mantle of the oppressed underdog, punch them in the nose and remind them that their bodies are as fragile as their egos and their ideas. Push them down again and again and again. Whisper in their ear that their Nazis forebears used to get treated like this - until one day they found the courage to stand up for themselves and their beliefs and fight. And then they lost. And then we killed them. And then we displayed their bloated corpses for all the world to jeer. And then we destroyed everything they had built and they were powerless to stop us because these failed, pathetic losers put their faith in beliefs that were wrong. Demonstrably false. Literally untrue. The Reich to last a thousand years never grew old enough to get a driver’s license. The Nazis who were humiliated in the Beer Hall Putsch vowed that from that day forward no one would ever treat them like that again. But we did. Because they’re losers who fail. These are people whose ideology gives them cover for advocating some of the most heinous acts this earth has ever seen. The alt-right, whether they openly identify as Nazis or not, are Nazis, and are in accord with the exact same belief system that advocated for genocide, racial supremacy, patriarchy, antiquated conservatism, and other such debunked delusions even if they distance themselves from the Nazi label. When someone’s ideology gives them cover for being a piece of shit like that then you should oblige and treat them as such. Drag them into the nearest restroom and give them a couple swirlies -shit belongs in the toilet, after all. Alright. Despite my bellicose rhetoric above I am a pacifist at heart - violence ultimately begets more violence. So don’t let them drown. Don’t break any bones. Don’t go pulling off fingers the way you might the wings of a tiny, helpless, pathetic, utterly incapable-of-fighting-back mosquito before carelessly squashing it with the tip of the nail on your pinkie finger. Even though you could. Easily. It would not be hard.
But there’s a difference between perpetuating a cycle of violence by starting a blood feud or spending decades abusing someone emotionally and physically and dragging someone who said “you’re a weak effeminate pansy degenerate who wouldn't exist in our pure society and its not hate speech to want a country for white straight men and women with shared moral values” into a park bathroom and demonstrating certain inaccuracies of that argument by clamming their heads into the urinal and forcing them to eat a urinal cake. It’s not the most intellectually robust rebuttal, but you could rephrase “you’re a weak effeminate pansy degenerate who wouldn't exist in our pure society” as “you’re a stinky doo doo head who sucks and when I grow up I’m gonna be strong enough to throw you into space.” They’re functionally identical in terms of tone, content, self-aggrandizement, and mental acuity. There is no intellectually appropriate response to that kind of infantile argument - these are not intelligent people. I don’t mean ‘lacking in formal education.’ I mean they’re stupid. ‘Burn the blankets to warm the bed’ stupid. Leibowitzian ‘Proud To Be A Cretin’ stupid. ‘Smart Men Stay Ignorant; Leaning’s For Libs’ stupid. Their positions should not be treated as intellectually valid out of a misguided belief that a good intellectual should be open-minded to every idea every time it’s proposed. Sure, absolute-free-speech defenders always willing to normalize Nazi “discourse”, I’ll concede that the world-is-flat guy might have had a right to explain what his beliefs were. In 5000 BC, When nobody had heard them before and we didn’t know what he was going to say. Eight thousand years later, though, indulging his ancestor who’s just going to repeat the same points that were wrong eight millennia ago is lunacy.
A good intellectual knowns when something isn’t worth their time and acts accordingly. Sometimes this means not letting someone fill the air with hate speech out of slavish obligation to letter of freedom of expression instead of its spirit (when someone is granted the freedom to debate the idea that everyone who disagrees with them should be purged, you only harm freedom, not celebrate it.) Sometimes this means force-feeding an advocate of genocide a tasty lunchtime treat of urine and quaternary ammonium compounds while cheerfully wondering aloud what might happen if there’s still unswallowed cake in their mouth and you need to resolve certain biological necessities.
The first mistake we ever made with the alt-right was to leave the whoopee cushion at home, when we should have attended their every rally with an armful and play them constantly every time they tried to speak. “There’s nothing wrong with saying I’m pr-THPPTPHTPHPHHPH proud to be THPPTPHTPHPHHPH be white and to stand up for THPPTPHTPHPHHPH the achieveTHPPTPHTPHPHHPHments of the whitTHPPTPHTPHPHHPH of the whTHPPTPHTPHPHHPH white THPPTPHTPHPHHPH white raTPHRRURURURPHH-P-P-P- whiP-P-P-P whP-P-P whiteP-P-P-P WHITE RACTRRHPRPRP-P-P ... ... ... *cough* ... ... WHITE POWFFFFWWWPWPPRPRPRPRPRPRSQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAKTRRRHHPPPP-PPP-RPPP-PPP-P-P-P-PLIPPPP-THRP plip! We should attend their rallies and events with boxes of red noses, rainbow wigs, and buckets of greasepaint and throw ourselves upon them until we’ve forced them into wearing their true colours. Remember: every SS officer who looked so forbidding in their tailored uniform stank of their own disgusting sweat because all that blackened leather couldn’t breathe and every SS trooper standing in that imposing formation was broiling in their own filth. Nothing but bozos in fetish gear. The vaunted Wehrmacht had their uniforms rot off their bodies in the snows of Stalingrad as they had to strip the dead for scraps and rags, freezing to death, starving to death, because Hitler - the great genius who personally involved himself with the running of his forces almost to a tactical level - he didn’t think they needed to be resupplied. The Nazis lost. The Nazis lost so badly their monuments were ground into dust, their leaders bodies destroyed or abandoned in the mud, the dreams of Germania proven nothing but a dusty model in a museum devoted to cursing the Nazi’s memory. Nothing but a shrine to hubris and grossly over-estimating your own abilities. The legacy of the Nazis is humiliation, shame, and utter fucking failure. Neo-Nazis, this ‘new’ alt-right whose philosophies are all old, have as their heroes men who did nothing but fail, who achieved nothing but to have their life’s work expunged, debased, destroyed, and condemned by the world not just in their time but for generations after. Not misunderstood geniuses but understood buffoons. Never, ever, let them forget this - and never, ever let them try to turn it into a virtue. No ‘we shall rise again’ narratives. No abyss-to-transformation in some bullshit Cambellian hero’s journey. Their past was not a defeat to inspire them to future victory. They are not the underprivileged hurdle jumper who against all odds and obstacles wins gold at the Olympics, they’re the guy on your track team who once pushed so hard on a door marked pull that he fell through the glass and had to get ten stitches, the guy who got so drunk at an out-of-town meet that he shat his bed at the hotel and tried to hide the dirty sheets in his bags and stunk-up the bus ride home until Coach found out and chewed him out in front of the entire team for being the biggest fucking tool in the whole wide world. Not the guy who was a loner in high school but who found like-minded friends in college, started a cool band where they sang about their sucky pasts, and wound-up a rich and famous with legions of adoring fans. Nah, they’re the guy who was a loner in high school, and in college, and in the job at the napkin distribution company, the guy who retired without a party, spent weeks at a time with no one to talk to, and ultimately died alone - not because he was socially awkward or shy or struggled to communicate, but because he was really unpleasant to be around and even those virtuous folk who try and make sure that nobody is lonely gave up on him because he was such a nasty, loathsome, turd of a human being whose only impact on the world was that he improved it by leaving it. That’s the past of the Nazis. That, too, is their future. Never let them forget this. Their past should embarrass them. Mortify them. There’s is the ideology of pathetic losers. When you march against them, raise high above your heads images of Nazi Germany - not rigid columns of well-armed soldiers or shining tanks rolling off the lines, but the images of their ineptitude. The shuffling columns of defeated, broken men. Their burnt tanks, their downed planes, their sunken ships, their pulverized cities, and all the equipment abandoned in panicked withdrawals or through sheer bureaucratic incompetence. Show images of Jews defiant, the simple act of their still drawing breath spit in the eye of those who thought to see them erased. Humiliate the Nazis again and again and again. They. Failed. The Jews endured, survived, flourished - won. The conquered nations of Europe rebuilt their cultural wonders and their ruined homes and brought back their stolen treasures. They won. The disposed Roma preserved their ways of life despite the will of an entire conquering empire set against them. They won too. The queer communities persecuted for their ‘deviancy’ not only survived they reshaped the post-war world into a place that could no longer sideline them in history. Another victory. The Nazis lost. The Nazi’s failed so completely that they lost not only the territory they had tried to gain but their own nation lay shattered at their feet - politically, socially, economically, spiritually. The Great and Powerful Nazi Party so failed its own people that Germany was sundered into West Germany, East Germany, and Eastern Prussia, promptly swallowed whole by the Societs - the trauma from that lingers generations on. The Nazis not only failed to achieve any of their goals - they failed in the promise made by any such ideology: in joining us we will protect you. They did not just fail to make Germany greater, they literally destroyed it, and left it in pieces. So when you march against the alt-right, these neo-Nazis, Hoist photos of the bloated corpses of the hanged at Nuremberg - their swollen faces distorted in death. Chant the cry “Morons, Not Martyrs!” Remind every alt-right shit-eating soul that they were nothing, are nothing, will always be nothing but failures, losers, and followers of stupid, incompetent, incapable fools. They were, are, shall always, can only ever be wrong. “These are your role models? This is your dream? Failures! Failures! Failures!” “Be A Nazi To Lose It All” Do not, for a single solitary second, treat their ideas as grown-up. Do not, for a moment, give them the cover of adulthood, maturity, or sober discourse. Do not, for one second of time, treat them with respect so long as they seek to hold power over you, to be feared by you, to be thought of as an enemy and not something foul but forgettable to be scrapped off your shoe. Never give them an inch of fear to feed their starving egos. The man who said that rocks were soft as butter and as edible as custard would be given no weight as a person of substantive ideas - Nazis deserve the same derision. And do not allow them a moment of privacy to brood on the indignities you heap upon them, to be like a teen sulking in their bedroom crafting fantasies about how one day they’ll be proven right and everyone will be sorry. Drag them out into the light again and again and again, give them no moment of peace, allow no instant of time to pass when you are not holding images of their ideology’s worthlessness and failure above their heads. No hiding. No sulking. No second to plot or brood or dream. Stake them to the earth, keep them forever in the light, and pummel them with pie until even they can not deny that they are nothing but clowns worthy only of mockery, ridicule, and endless savage laughter.

The Lost Mine of Phandelver
Seven adventurers:
-Katalaana the Elven Bard (Andra)
-Cedric the War Cleric (Bryan)
-Selene the Druid (Natalie)
-Volin the Druid (Tania)
-Veronica the Sorcerer (Marilyn)
-Jyn the Rogue (Amanda)
-Brad the Fighter (Ali)
The story begins with the party accepting a job from a dwarf named Gundren Rockseeker to escort a supply wagon from Neverwinter to the frontier town of Phandalin. Gundren was to head out one day in advance with his body guard, Sildar Hallwinter, a human.
Heading south along the High Road, they eventually turned onto the less traveled Triboar Trail on route to Phandalin. On the road, they spotted the remains of an ambush—two dead horses (belonging to Gundren and Sildar) and a slew of dead goblin corpses. At the scene, tracks were found belong to humanoids and goblin heading North along a roughly treaded trail. The party decides to go North and follow the trail.
The party eventually arrives at a cave on the side of a large hill deep in the forest occupied by members of the Cragmaw Tribe. There, they rescue Sildar Hallwinter and he informs the party that the goblins, led by their leader Klarg, have taken Gundren away to Cragmaw Castle.
The party retreats into the woods to have a long rest. During the night, Jyn and Brad abandon the party. Furthermore, Selene goes missing. Undeterred, the party of 5 returns to the cave for their showdown with Klarg, the Bugbear.
The party fights Klarg, his goblin minions, and his pet dire wolf, Ripper. The goblin and Ripper are killed, and Klarg is defeated and taken prisoner.
He reveals insights into the Cragmaw structure, and stating that he and his group were to ambush anyone traveling the Triboar Trail. They were to especially look out for any Dwarves. After Gundren's capture, he was taken to Cragmaw Castle and Klarg was left to continue his work, with further orders to attack any adventurers seeking to meddle.
Klarg was taken to Phandalin along with Sildar Hallwinter and recovered supplies from the caves belonging to a trading post in town. Sildar left to find lodgings, and the party decided to take Klarg to the cemetery greens to decide his fate. Although some members wanted to dispatch Klarg, the majority voted to keep him alive so long as he aids in their pursuits. They shave his face and try to make him look as normal as possible.
Klarg explains that since he failed, both King Grol of the Cragmaws and his partner, The Black Spider (a mysterious entity), would be looking to kill him, so he was better off sticking with them in order to increase his chance for survival.
Klarg reveals the location of Cragmaw Castle. Party decides to immediately go to the castle. After battling through a side entrance, Klarg reveals his ambition to the party: he wishes to challenge King Grol for the right to rule the Cragmaw Tribe. He feels that it is his only hope for survival since he is marked for death. The party continues battling through Cragmaw Castle, seeking to rescue Gundren Rockseeker. They reach a room with a door to the South with a horrible, screeching sound coming from beyond. End session.
KLARG, THE BUGBEAR:

Klarg is equipped with a Morningstar, dagger, and Javelins. Armor: Scale Mail. No gold.

His rolls: STR 15, DEX 14, CON 13, INT 8, WIS 11, CHA 9

ABOUT KLARG:
History: Klarg is one of many offspring from his mother, who had many lovers in her life. He doesn't know who his father is. He was born with low intelligence and has been picked on by other members of his clan for being “slow” and “stupid”. To compensate, Klarg has developed a taste for violence in response to his harsh upbringing, eventually earning him the leadership of a small warband within the Cragmaw Tribe. He also raised a dire wolf pup but was unable to properly care for it, so it had lived with mange for most of its life. Wolf's name was Ripper.
After the defeat of his warband, Klarg joins the adventurers for the chance to challenge King Grol in order to save his life and become the new King. Klarg knows that to initiate the challenge, he needs to bring a “worthy kill” to the feet of the King in his throne room, for all to see. If accepted, a one-on-one duel will commence, to the death, without outside interference. The victor will immediately be recognized as the rightful king of the Cragmaw Tribe.
Klarg agrees to release Gundren unharmed if he becomes King of Cragmaw.

I did Twitter’s #31HorrorFilm31Days challenge again this year - at the outset I thought it would be really hard to accomplish this time around, but it wasn’t - I finished with days to spare. Of course now I won’t be able to watch another horror movie for another month at least. This year I went heavily 80′s, rewatching several favorite old chestnuts and finally catching up with never-seen-before perennials like Return of the Living Dead. I also saw some good newer stuff like Creep 2 & the new Halloween. Gotta mix it up at least a little, right? Anyway, read my full list with their accompanying twitter comments below, and happy Halloween!
1. CREEP 2 ('17) Female filmmaker doesn't *flinch* when guy she’s filming tells her he's a serial killer, thinks he’ll make for fab material. Good luck with that.
2. HELLO MARY LOU: PROM NIGHT II (’87) Who was that who said "Hell hath no fury like that of a 50′s prom queen scorned by being burned alive who reappears in the 80′s as a vengeful spirit supported by lots of FX"? Whoever said that, they are vindicated.
3. MR JONES ('13) Film-making couple has neighbor who is either (A) a famous reclusive artist ("like Banksy!") or (B) a guardian between us & a nightmare realm. I'm gonna go with (B)
4. THE BIRDS (’63) Our fine feathered friends become our fine feathered foes in this classic Hitchcock thriller.
5. HOLIDAYS (’15) Featuring 8 short tales, each on a different holiday. It's hit or miss but u may well enjoy imagining Mitch McConnell as the male character in K. Smith's gruesome anti-misogyny revenge fantasy - I sure did.
6. GOD TOLD ME TO (’76) Randos begin killing randomly, claiming "God told me to!" But what's reeeeally going on? Cop w/ personal issues is on the case. Solid, wacko B flick features tons of late 70s NYC goodness
7. THE BEYOND (’81) Woman inherits hotel in New Orleans which turns out 2B one of the 7 Gates to Hell! The hotel offers lovely amenities such as murderous walking corpses & eyeball eating spiders

The 5th annual Philip K. Dick European Science Fiction Film Festival announces events in France and Germany
The Philip K. Dick European Science Fiction Film Festival has announced its full schedule for the fifth annual celebration spotlighting the brilliance of legendary novelist Philip K. Dick. Pushing the boundaries of storytelling through remarkable feature and short films and virtual reality, the festival will be held October 25-26 at L'Hybride and Inoui in Lille, France and November 1-2 at Film Club 813 e.V. in Cologne, Germany.
This year's festival marks its fifth gathering in the locations of Lille and Cologne, both highly artistic meccas essential for the event's mission. "Europe has a long tradition of integral and psychological science fiction," said Daniel Abella, the founder and director of the festival. "Both Lille and Cologne have a rich cultural life and are popular areas for learning and appreciating this genre." The event will also commemorate its namesake by attributing his work as a reflection of modern society. "Philip K. Dick foresaw the aspects of technology to free and liberate us," said Abella. "If you look around at the technological advancements of our world, many of his stories have come to pass and the festival recognizes his vision. He understood that the fluid nature of reality and the lure of transhumanism is becoming a real phenomenon."
Festival Passes: Passes to the festival are available for purchase on www.philipkdickfilmfestival-europe.com.
