Climate Fund supports biofuel refinery in Mato Grosso
Construction of the plant in Canarana will total R$670m
Alvorada Bioenergia is the latest biofuel company to secure funding from Brazil��s Climate Fund for a refinery project. The company will receive a loan of R$500 million from the fund, managed by the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), to build a bio-refinery in Canarana, Mato Grosso.
The plant, which is already under construction, will have the capacity to produce 222 million liters of corn ethanol. Alvorada will source corn from producers in the eastern region of the state and, in addition to biofuel, it plans to produce by-products such as DDG, DDGS, and oil. The company will also use the energy generated during the industrial process to power the facility.
The loan from the Climate Fund will complement the total project cost, which is estimated at R$670 million. The remaining R$170 million will come from the company’s own funds.
