Event Guidelines

What is this? CREATE THE HEAVENS is a Gurren Lagann appreciation event that aims to celebrate the human spirit of creation. It will take place from March 26 to April 1, 2024, in celebration of the series’ 17th anniversary.

Is this an official event? No. This event is not associated with the Gurren Lagann Project, Studio TRIGGER, GAINAX, Aniplex, or anyone else involved with the creation, production, or distribution of any official Gurren Lagann-branded media.

How do I participate? A list of daily prompts can be found here. On whichever day(s) interest you, make some sort of fan creation relating to those prompts (however strictly or loosely you interpret it) and post it on Tumblr, either with the tag #createtheheavens or by mentioning this blog with an @ (or both!). Your work will then be reblogged here for everyone to see!

What kind of creations are allowed? Anything you can imagine! Fanart, fanfiction, fan comics, gifs, AMVs, text posts, figure photography, cosplay, macaroni art, meta-analysis, custom LEGO builds - you get the picture. There is no threshold of “quality” expected. As mentioned before, the goal here is to celebrate the human spirit of creation, as well as our love for Gurren Lagann, so if you are inclined to make something that falls under that umbrella, I encourage you to share it!

Is this event happening on any other social media sites? No; this blog is the only “hub” for this event. If you don’t have a Tumblr account but would still like to participate, or would like to do so anonymously, feel free to use the “submit” function to send in any photos, text, and/or links so that they can be posted here! Fanfiction (or anything else hosted on AO3) can be added to the event’s collection, createtheheavens2024, as well as shared on Tumblr.

What are the rules for this event?

This blog will not reblog any NSFW content. All fanfiction added to the AO3 collection must be accurately rated either General Audiences or Teen and Up Audiences. Obviously this can be subjective, and Gurren Lagann itself has some content that wouldn’t meet this rule, but please use your best judgement.

This blog will not reblog any content that was made, in whole or part, with the use of generative AI (including, but not limited to, examples such as ChatGPT and Stable Diffusion). The point of this event is, in part, to celebrate the human spirit of creation, which is much more present in even the simplest of human-made contributions than anything made by generative AI!

This blog will not reblog any content that is made with the intent to harass or bully others, including works that are racist, sexist, queerphobic, or targeting any other individual or group. Again, this can be subjective and is not entirely absent from Gurren Lagann itself, but please use your best judgement and don’t be an asshole.

Who are the mods? There is only one mod, @coredrill! The TTGL fandom on Tumblr these days is pretty small and pretty chill, so I don’t expect to need any help, but I’ll make a public post if that changes.

Why the 17th anniversary? Why not some more relevant landmark? Because I just thought of it last year, haha.
