I was thinking about takes I have from Dexter's Laboratory and thought of one in specific, where I think Aye was the perfect girlfriend for Dexter but her episode is the cliché trope of “Perfect girlfriend for the main character who should be kicked off the show so as not to ruin the status quo.” I know it may sound dumb, that's why I want to tell why I consider that, besides showing why I like this ship so much and why it is my comfort ship! we are already used to the shortcomings of DL where the secondary and background characters are not taken advantage of, many times these characters disappear. Warning: here there will be over analysis , I know perfectly well that it's a cartoon for kids, if you don't like to see this type of content then I recommend you to ignore this post. I use translator as my main language is not English, so you may notice my grammatical mistakes, sorry for that! I'm going to keep Dexter and Aye's perspective in mind, I'll start by talking about the negative part and how I can explain it please note that this is my interpretation of the episode, so I can understand if you don't see it the same way as every mind is different!

the main conflict is that the little girl keeps chasing Dexter everywhere, to the point that she spies on him while he is studying (she should follow the same example and go study too!!)

she is silent, she doesn't make any noise, and her appearance is a mix between being cute and creepy, he is really afraid of her appearance, but, in spite of the fear, as the episode goes on we understand that he stops being afraid of her The blackmail: it's the dirtiest part of the conflict, but you have to keep in mind that even though Aye (like any immature little girl) did something like that, Dexter was planning to hurt her with a lazer beam!!! It's so funny, they're just two kids being like kids! (Isn't that adorable? To me it is! They're both so silly in their own way!) Besides, the blackmail idea was Dexter's idea

he doesn't need to hold her hand like that!!! let her go!!! and even though it frustrates him that she doesn't express anything in words, he can literally read her eyes (he is definitely a smart boy!!!) she didn't even have to speak for him to notice that she had fallen in love with him, he doesn't mind that the girl doesn't even speak.

and in the future, he ends up falling in love with another girl who does not speak!

the main problem is that the girl keeps following him around, that's what really bothered Dexter, she forced him to be her girlfriend and now he had to walk everywhere with her. But is that really such a big problem? everyone has their own opinions, mine analyzes the conflicts that Dexter has with his sister, it is similar, Dee-Dee always wants to play with him, she is more disastrous and noisy, Dee-Dee causes him much more problems, even though Dexter prefers to be alone most of the time. However, in addition to being his family, Dexter has shown on several occasions that he misses his sister and likes her company, and on many occasions when he manages to “get rid” of Dee-Dee, he regrets it and ends up missing her. Why should this case be any different? After all, at the end of the episode, Dexter gets jealous. these are the reasons why I consider Aye to be an excellent girlfriend for him! ♡

She is very patient, unflappable even, undaunted by Dexter's strong temperament. she would definitely not have unnecessary fights with him. that reminds me a lot of Douglas, that's why he's Dexter's best friend, Douglas is also very patient with him (I also think they make a cute couple)

although she is patient and very calm, she is not submissive or obedient, she does whatever she wants!! so she would not let him control her!

besides, she's not shy, she's the one making all the affectionate advances! you can tell she is very caring and cute, she likes to keep him company, and even though she spies on Dexter while he studies, she would definitely be his number 1 fan and must admire him a lot, he would definitely like that. also, in a sense, I think it's cute that she spies at him, but I just have kind of weird tastes

Aye, seeing the book that Dexter threw away, surely thought that for him that book is as valuable as her stuffed bunny is valuable to her

she is a very intelligent and observant, her intelligence is not similar to Dexter's, it is not an intelligence that Dexter feels insecure and overshadowed by her. She understands her surroundings, (and somehow discovered where he lives) and she can understand his emotions, accompanied by a tender compassion, tranquility and patience. Aye knows how to keep her composure and control her emotions, but she's still a girl! she fell in love with, probably, the first boy who was nice to her.

Aye was a lonely girl Finally, what confirms that Aye really is a good girl and Dexter knows that, is at the end, with the joke that ends the episode He puts aside his characteristic egocentrism and says, that Aye is too good for the boy who replaces him

He'll know why he thinks that The girl replaces Dexter very easily, we can see it in two ways: the plot needs to end the episode quickly, it is still a cartoon for children! But if you want to overanalyze it, then I am the right person to do it with! We have to put ourselves in Aye's shoes, she is in love with Dexter, but he does not treat her well, he is not exactly a gentleman, he even planning to hurt her. Then another boy comes along who helps her in the same way that Dexter helped her, if you look at the smallest details, she is not sure… it was the boy who smiled at Aye first. Now, I want to add my Headcanons, maybe you don't agree, but I want to express my idea to enrich my analysis I consider that Dexter and Aye are very compatible because they are neurodivergent, we know that canonically Dexter is not autistic, but come on! that child can be anything but neurotypical! and I personally think that Aye is also autistic and I will explain why ❥ she is lonely and very introverted (as a neurodivergent, I can relate to that a lot). ❥ she has her accompanying stuffed animal, and takes it with her everywhere ❥ she is socially awkward, she just stares at people and doesn't talk Usually autistic children avoid eye contact but in fact, there are autistic children who do the opposite, they stare into your eyes

Personally I think Aye is not mute and I will give my points as to why I think that ❥ She is definitely not deaf, she hears everything and responds to Dexter by nodding her head (she's just stubborn) ❥ Mute children are taught sign language from a very young age, which Aye never does, she only communicates with her head and her big eyes ❥ Dexter himself hints that she will tell everyone about his lab, which Aye confirms. To me, she is just "Non-Verbal Autistic" because adding the reasons why she is not deaf and why she is autistic, it all makes sense I also want to mention that Genndy likes to add non-speaking characters in his series, it's a trope that he apparently likes a lot

In addition, Dexter sometimes doesn't feel like talking either and communicates through his eyes and actions.

Finally, I will make an analysis of why I feel they would make a good match. We already know Dexter's flaws, Aye also has her own, and that is that she is very emotionally dependent, she needs constant company from her partner and that is why she did not stop chasing him. Their relationship opens the possibility of personal growth for both of them, Dexter is very logical and very honest with her, eventually she will understand that she does not have to follow him everywhere. Dexter is very closed with his emotions, but he can be honest and feel safe next to a kind and compassionate girl who will not argue with him. Besides, Dexter is not so bad, he is a boy concerned about safety and can take care of her, although sometimes he is rude, he is capable of reflecting on his bad actions and does not hesitate to ask for forgiveness.
