You know how glitches in old videogames often resulted in weird bands of color and otherwise distorted pixels? That was the inspiration behind why I gave this a rough texture to go with its splotchy paint scheme, as well as mismatching armor; it’s meant to look like something is wrong with it, while still looking functional.

Haven't posted in a while as August has a fair bit of emotional baggage for me, but I'm still building!

Earthree Gundam was a lot more fun than Uraven, and doesn't fall apart when you look at it funny. Personally I prefer the original Core Gundam over the II, so that was a bonus with this kit.

And I got the keyboard Haro! For some reason this was an absolute nightmare to find in the UK, but I lucked out and found it for £10.99 - maybe a bit much for a haropla, but I'd wanted this one for so long that I was willing to pay it. Long term feature of my desk I think!

Currently I'm working on an MG Char's Z'Gok, and having a blast with it. I also have an SD kit that I'm working on, but I'm only building that while my wife is working on a kit of her own, so I don't know when I'll actually finish it.

The backlog is almost beaten! And then I must acquire a new, more powerful backlog.

PFF-X7II+ Core Gundam II+ / PFF-X7II+/P9 Plutine Gundam

Let us return to Gundam Build Metaverse! Which I have rewatched again recently, as I went back and rewatched all of Gundam Build during a two-week period where I was sick and couldn't go to work.

I actually really like Hiroto's depiction in GBM, as it does feel like he's post series. He's more outwardly positive, and willing to work with other people. My one minor thing, and this is just as someone who's favorite Gundam is Re:Rise, is that I wish they used the new "New Gunpla Budget" that was used on F-Kunoichi and Avatar Fumina to give either Freddy (preferred) or Hinata their first Gunpla. Both of them are members of the team, and it would have been nice to see that evolution. Granted, nobody really got that, but it would have been nice.

The Kit: It isn't much different from the other Core Gundams, but the Core itself does have a few minor differences in a new head and wings. The tolerances are also a bit better. The Plutine's new parts are pretty neat, too. I would say it's probably my second favorite armor, next to the Nepteight.

The Details: On the original set of Cores, I did everything in metallic green, but here I chose to use standard black panel lining, and white on the black armored parts to match the other Gunpla I'd done from the series. There's also a bit of added metallic green for the eyes, cameras, and what could fit underneath the translucent elements. A pretty simple once-over.

Overall, it's a good kit, and having unique parts for both the armor and Core helps make it feel like a better purchase over some of the other Cores that double up with different armors. It also just looks cool, and is very solid compared to some of the other Metaverse offerings. Whether you've handed a Core or not, it's worth checking out.

Important revelation about Armored Core and Gundam sizing

Holiday Core

So I was playing around with some leftover Core Gundam bits, when I thought it would be fun to customize one without a lot of mods* OR repainting, as I’ve done before. Then it occurred to me that Core has glittery white and red parts, and some neon green ones, and… well… one thing lead to another.

(*The armor carrier was modded to make the storage resemble a sleigh)

We need more ugly mechs.

I want to see the ugly mechs. The terrible mechs. The ones with blatant conversions having been done to make a perfectly sane design do something completely fucking different.

These things need to look like mechanical cancer, and not the vaguely sexy flesh-turned-machine type. No, I mean "what the fuck the mechanical body doesn't work like that" type of cancer, where you can clearly see what should have been and sawzaw surgery looks like a reasonable alternative to letting this poor benighted beast live in pain any longer.

We are looking at designs where there was a god here, who then left in disgust at the works of man. This is not where a Zaku holds a Feddy beam rifle or a Nachtreiher slings a Stun Needle, no. Those are but mere impersonators to the depths of terrible we need to hit.

Mecha is fundamentally about exploring the human condition, and humans are fucked-up little critters. Let's show that off for once without such limiting factors as "grace" and "beauty" and "dignity" getting in the way.
