rehashing what’s certainly already been said about a 40 year old movie:

buuuut i’m obsessed lately with the differences between the 0079 show and movies…. lalah’s death/newtype connection to amuro sequences are so beautiful and tragic and these scenes are sososo special to me.

i’m forever partial to the tv show version of the still of amuro’s eyes. so furious, such an uncomfortable boring into the viewer…. the movie reads to me as much more regretful, and lacks the edge that makes the original so striking. the starkness of just the darkest shadows around his eyes against the white is so much more arrestive in the moment. the movie just doesn’t have quite the same bite.

however! the longer sequence of the rising water works more to the benefit of the movie, along with the more psychedelic lalah bits. the build up to the parting of the water gives it a bit more power, but as a nitpick, i wish they kept the same deep dark water rather than the bluer, brighter movie water. but that’s just meeee
