Finding out that Allan Corduner's portfolio also includes consistently voicing Snape in the old Harry Potter videogames is like finding out Owl City is a Christian Rock band. Like this doesn't change my opinion on either but it sure does flesh out my mental profile of their works in a way I didn't expect.

Everybody's Lieblingdirigentin Marin Alsop beklagt nicht zu unrecht an Tàr, nun gäbe es endlich mal einen Film über eine lesbische Dirigentin, und dann missbraucht sie ihre Macht. Als Lanze für die Akzeptanz von Frauen im Konzertbetrieb ist es aufgrund mangelnder Sympathiewerte für die Titelheldin tatsächlich nicht wirklich ideal, so kommt der gute alte Maestro hier jetzt halt wieder besser weg. Aber es ist natürlich ein aufregender und überraschender Film, und einmal mehr eine ganz fabelhafte Cate-Blanchett-Darbietung, obwohl sie mir so richtig toll nicht zu dirigieren scheint, aber das liegt, wie da schon angedeutet, möglichweise auch wieder am alten Maestro hier.

My rating: 7/10

Bunch of people being catty and British and getting up to Shenanigans, interspersed with some really nice musical numbers. Not a bad way of spending 3 hours.

Re-reading, or rather re-listening-to, Pathfinder. I must say it's difficult to get used to the new narrator Nicola Barber. Maybe it's just because I'm used to hearing him, but it feels like Doyle understood the character he was voicing in a way that Barber doesn't.

I do get why they changed narrator, the TodHunter Moon trilogy has a female lead, and is mostly written from her perspective, it makes sense to have woman narrate it, but something about Barber's narration in particular just seems off.

For one thing, I'm not sure why she gave all the Pathfinder's Scottish accents, it kind of works, but it isn't quite what I imagined.

Like with Doyle before her, she forgets that the Castle is meant to be in Cornwall, and voices every Castle inhabitant in BBC English. It seems that only Corduner got that memo

A far worse accent-based offense is what she does to Snorri's voice, it seems like all she did before coming up with the voice is find out that she's a Northern Trader, figured that Northern referred to the north of England, and turned everyone's favourite Viking-coded trader into someone from Lancashire.

Also, she makes all of the Heap boys sound the same, which is kind of awkward when there are multiple of them in the same room.

She isn't all bad though

Beetle seem to finally have shifted the sore-throat he's had since Flyte.

Marcia has calmed down a bit

Dandra Draa's voice no longer sounds slightly racist, which is good as Dandra has a far bigger role in this series

These are just my thoughts on the new narration, and - for all my criticism of her - I do appreciate that Barber's narration is still very good, and far better than anything I could do. Does anyone else who listens to the audiobooks have any thoughts?

Set in the international world of Western classical music, the film centers on Lydia Tár, widely considered one of the greatest living composer-conductors and the very first female director of a major German orchestra.

A really interesting character study. I like that you really can't tell if the story of Lydia is fictional or biographical. She's such an believable character. Not really likable, but still very fascinating. And it's easy to imagine that such toxic power structures do exist within large orchestras. Though I didn't find it entirely plausible that Lydia would pursue Olga.

Cate Blanchett plays her very convincingly. One of those movies where you get the feeling a role was custom-made for a specific actor.

I think it's a great plus that Lydia is fictional, and not based on a specific perseon or event. Otherwise there would be the usual distracting debate if the portrayal does said person justice or not.

My question is, are you aware if the Good Omens audiobook (the full cast production) is the same as the original book but narrated by the series cast? Odes it have something el so, or less.

Cause I've been meaning to buy it, but where I live the taxes and everything makes it a little too expensive, and I want to know that is totally worth it before i decide.
