I decided on a whim a couple of days ago that I needed to get into bookbinding - so here's my first try at a coptic bound notebook made with things I had lying around the house

Fic Binding: leverage by @columbinepurples (Daredevil, Matt/Foggy, M, 1.7k.)
First attempt at a Braille book! More of the process is documented here. I transcribed it into Braille on PerkyDuck, and embossed it with an embosser I found on eBay.

Marine-themed handmade journal, Feb 2024.
I'm very pleased with how the coptic stitch looks with embroidery thread to create that gradient look! I'll definitely be doing that again! Funny how much easier this stitch seems now compared to my first time doing it. The turquoise fore-edge is Diamine tropical shimmer ink, which I would like to try again on sanded edges to see how sparkly I can get it.

Coptic Stitch Olive Oil Book
I bought a liter can of extra virgin olive oil cold pressed from ancient olive trees in Jenin, Palestine, sold by @handmadepalestine.
After it was delivered to me, I decided to upcycle the packaging the oil came in by turning parts of the box into a little coptic stitch notebook. The pages are from paper scraps that a friend gave me. It’s nothing gorgeous, but I’m quite pleased with it.
#freepalestine🇵🇸 - please consider donating to the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.

Here's a little project that I made to keep myself busy for a little while.
It's The Tale of Two Bad Mice, by Beatrix Potter (text and illustrations) - a delicious children's classic.
My favourite part was definitely embroidering the spine because it made me fall in love with embroidery all over again. I need to do this more often!
Overall, it's far from being perfect (I even forgot the headbands 🤦🏻‍♀️), but i think I still really love it.

Coptic stitch book complete!!
My only complaint with it was that I had a really hard time with attaching the 2nd cover board. It's a little bit loose. But otherwise I'm ecstatic about it. I'm going to be gifting it to my sister for her birthday.

I did learn that coptic comes from the name of an ethnoreligion in northern Africa which was neat to learn about! Apparently researching historical bookbinding techniques is something I enjoy doing.

Got to try something I've wanted to learn for ages today. Bookbinding!
I'm having a bit of trouble with tension, but it looks very nice from the outside so 🤷

I finished my very first Coptic stitch today!
The outside cover is Yuzen Chiyogami, the signatures are watercolor paper, and the thread is a pale blue, cotton embroidery floss.

This is a coptic notebook I bind for my daughter. I made it from the pretty box of soaps she gave me for Christmas. I want it to have a rustic vibe, so I let the cardboards edges in sight and I choose a recycled sugarcane paper.
It's been a while since I've done the coptic sticht, and I made a few mistakes.
All in all, I'm pleased with it. My daughter liked it, and that makes me happy.
