C-O-O-L: Part I

Richie only has two concrete plans for his life. One is to get the HELL out of Derry and two to get Eddie Kaspbrak to fall head over heels. He’s planning on winning the lottery to accomplish the first goal. However he knows he’ll have to actually make a plan for the second which he had put into effect summer before freshman year. He had really glowed up during the summer. He wasn’t as gangly, he’d lost his braces and even invested in some contacts. He’d only wears them on special occasions though (like his first date with his Spaghetti) Bev even helped him find a relatively simple hair routine so his hair wouldn’t look like such a rats nest. All this combined with a new cool wardrobe and he was ready to charm the pants off Eddie Kaspbrak. He was feeling great the first day of school walking in confident and sure. He’d even gotten some looks and not just the sneers he usually gets. Some up and downs, winks and even double takes. He was smiling ear to ear by the time he’d reached where Eddies locker would be. He was already going over what he’d say so that it comes off just right and then…he sees him. Somehow in the 12 hours since he last saw him Eddie had gotten more beautiful. He was fighting with his new locker. He could hear him cursing like a sailor from down the hall and saw him taking a frustrated huff from his inhaler. He’d ditched the Fanny pack at home and he’d let his hair be a little more natural that day. Richie could see pieces of hair curling into his forehead and around his ears. He could see it move every time he tried to jerk open his locker open. He looked like a goddamn angel. As if he could sense Richie, Eddie looked up and when he fastened his big browns on him Richie swears he starts to hear “I put a spell on you” playing in his head. He’s pretty sure he stopped breathing…..Suddenly he was face down on the floor, his head hurt and Eddie was hovering over him looking concerned. It took him several moments to figure out what had happened…he’d ran into the side of the lockers. He still tried to play it cool with a “ Hey Spaghetti what’s cooking?” though. Desperately trying to salvage his grand entrance some. Eddie rolled his eyes, but Richie thought he saw some red in his cheeks. He grinned suddenly feeling hopeful that maybe he hadn’t screwed up his plan after all.
