14 - bitter
Ancients? :)
You KNEW what you were asking for. So have some Elidibus POV of Azem and Emet-selch's break-up before the Sundering.
-
There are shards of red on the steps, and utter silence in the square. He blinks. Etheriys feels a little like a dream now, with the soft roaring of so many souls dulling his senses- but this sting of sorrow and shame he feels, distantly. It aches in a way he's sure he's forgotten, almost. And yet he and all those within yet rememberâŠ
The people are watching (not saved- but soon) stricken, frozen - all but one, whose cowl hangs down his back, whose silver staff is still tight-gripped in white-knuckled fingers. Who is walking away with a snarl on his lips and tears streaming down his bare face. Who has before the entirety of Amaurot denounced the Convocation, who has accused them of forgetting their duty, who has- has accused him of bias-Â
They had to save the star. They have to save the star. And He was their answer. Is their answer. The roaring in his ears will never cease, now. He thinks the stretch of his very self was a small price to pay for the blue of the sky. He knows it. He volunteered.
So many had. And yet-
Azem storms out of the city center with his staff aglow in Light, wreathed round himself like a shield against- something, and he does not look back. There is only the sway of his long white braid as he departs, and Elidibus- watches it. Watches the narrow shoulders and frail stature recede into the distance, until shattered and broken and burning buildings obscure him from sight completely. Watches as one of Themis's closest friends turns his back on Zodiark and all the salvation he promises.
Elidibus does not understand it. He- remembers. Azem had pleaded with the Convocation to stay Zodiark's summoning, to give him time to find an alternative. Half the lives of their people was too awful a price for him - and Elidibus cannot condemn him for that love he has for their star and people, cannot condemn him for his dissent. Azem is the Traveler - the Shepherd. It would go against everything his seat stands for to agree. Lahabrea had not agreed - nor had Pashtarot - but in the end, Elidibus could not be partial. And thus Azem was given his time to find another way. But should Amaurot begin to burn- then they would have to act.
But he returned too late. Three days too late. And his solution wasâŠincomplete. An effort commendable, to be sure. A solution worthy of gentle praise, and perhaps use later. But the star had fallen to ruin, and Zodiark could restore it. And then- then the star could restore their people. And Zodiark would save them all. He would save them.
He will. No matter if one man refuses to understand. Elidibus and Zodiark will save him too.
No matter how bitter that salvation tastes.
There are shards of red on the steps. Emet-selch is kneeling among them, his hands shaking, gathering the pieces one at a time. He is not crying, Elidibus thinks. Not yet, at least. He seems more stunned than anything. Of course, he is not the only one, if the way the silence still rings deafening has any meaning.
Azem has always had a temper, though it was not often apparent. But this- this by far had been the worst outburst Elidibus had ever seen from anyone, let alone from Azem. And worst of all, it had been a willful misinterpretation- a cruel misinterpretation, made solely to make a point about their plans to sacrifice the lesser creatures of the star to return those given to Zodiark to life. And- and perhaps Azem even had a point, if a misguided one.
He had always been thin of aether, incapable of all creation magicks no matter how simple, and sickly for it besides. His elevation to the Fourteenth Seat had been long delayed by a discussion of his health and the risks posed to his own wellbeing, rather than any disagreement with regard to his temperament or accomplishment as a researcher and theorist both. But to use his own recurring illness - which Emet-selch had cared for him through countless times - as a bludgeon to say that the Convocation must therefore count him among those lesser creatures-
I too am thin of aether. Weak, sickly- imperfect. Incapable of creation. Are these the only requirements for you to be willing to slaughter living beings in order to undo the willing sacrifice of half our people? I gave you another option! Those who are thin of aether - thinner than me! - may use this dynamis to restore our star, and you dismiss their capabilities save for their worth as livestock? You swore to hearken unto my solution, Emet-selch- you promised me you would have faith I would find a way and now you- you reject what I have found in favor of dishonoring your seat and returning the dead to life? Fine then! I count myself among these lesser beings freely, for I am more akin to them than you. And should you wish to wet Etheriys with their blood, you will start with me. And you will draw the blade across my throat with your own hands.
But even if he had a point- Emet-selch had only stared, utterly lost for words. The entire square had been quieter than death. Even Zodiark had seemed to still. And then, caught in the folly of sentiment, Emet-selch had stepped forward, had reached out a hand, had called-Â
Helios- Helios, please-
There had been a whirl of black, a flash of red- and then Azem's mask had shattered on the wall above Emet-selch's head, had shattered into shards of his office even as his sigil had glared red over silver eyes.
I am Azem, Emet-selch. I revoke the privilege for you to call me by my personal name- not only do I not know this man you have become, but us lesser creations have no names to speak of, now do we?
Elidibus had not known how to stop him. Emet-selch had just dropped his hand, jerking a little as if he had been struck by a physical blow.
And then Azem had gone.
And now he is gone. And Emet-selch is on his knees, gathering the shards of that shattered mask, cradling them carefully, as if he could piece together what was broken. As if he could repair a heart threaded with thorns, or another cracked down the center. As if saving the mask would save the man.
â...he will come back,â Emet-selch whispers then, staring at the bitter, broken ashes of Helios in his hands. â...I- I will have that much faith in him.â
And Elidibus- and in Elidibus, the dark waxes strong, and he lays a hand on Emet-selch's shoulder.Â
âNay- we will save him, my friend,â he promises, and watches as golden eyes behind a red mask snap to him and glaze over. There is weight in his words now - the promise of a thousand thousand souls and the hope of their people. âWe will save him, and the star as well. We will.â
The doubt and grief in Emet-selch's eyes disappears, wiped clean by faith. And Elidibus smiles, heart heavy with certainty and the knowledge that in time, Themis's dearest friends will mend the rift born between them here. They will save Azem - they will - and the star he so loves, and all the people too. Elidibus will not allow for any end other than perfect salvation. The bitterness of these sorrowful days will fade, and Azem will smile again, and look upon Emet-selch with that loving mischief in his eye, and this will all be but a distant memory.Â
They will.Â
He will make sure of it.

heâs spitting mad facts
#heâs my favourite of the convocation of elders for a reason#and itâs not just because of his story featuring black pearl#heâs clearly the most down to earth and levelheaded of the entire group#heâs arguably the only one not focused on power and self fulfilment#he and his crew sail through the dusk gloom sea because he wants to protect the cityâs citizens#not because of the rewards heâll be offered but because itâs the right thing to do#not to mention heâs also the only elder that doesnât live lavishly#he doesnât have mansion and guards and other people waiting on him hand and foot#heâs a pirate. he lives the pirate life#not to mention he also genuinely cares for his crew#compared to the morally corrupt and power hungry majority of the elders#heâs like. the only good one#which is why i was surprised to see him there in the first place#captain caviar cookie#cookie run kingdom

Which Greek God Favors Your OC?
Saw @disciple-of-frost take this quiz and got curious if my Ancients would get their name sakes, but I did also take it for my WoLs. I hope its okay to at least tag a few (if not please let me know) @the-unending-journey @sasslett @umbralaether and anyone else curious should give it a go!
Anthea
Artemis (Goddess of the Hunt, The Moon) if you're a guy and you're reading this, you're one of the good ones. if you're a girl or nb reading this, you're probably into women. either way, you're graceful, respected, and fiercely protectful. you probably are great with kids and with animals, and the beauty of a full moon on a cloudless night gets you feeling some kinda way. remember that you'll never need anyone else to complete you - you're whole as you are.
Deimos
Apollo (God of Archery, Music, Poetry) youâve got a lot going on, huh? I see that. Apollo sees that. We both respect it. youâve got a lot of strange and unrelated talents, and are as interesting as you are multifaceted - you would make for an excellent dinner party guest. your vibes are sunny and light, and tend to put those around you at ease. that being said, you arenât afraid to take matters in your own hands, and might surprise people with just how tenacious you can be. remember that itâs your kindness youâll be remembered for, not your accomplishments.
Siberite
Dionysus (God of Wine, Theater) YESSSS i love this guy and I also probably love you. you've got enough stories for ten lifetimes, and you're happy to spend an entire night telling them as long as you're in the presence of good company (and perhaps a drink or two). you can be a lot, but you're a good soul; you've seen the good and bad of the world, and accept both as they come with compassion and ease. remember that sometimes, there's simply no shying away from a hard decision. learning when to be indifferent and when to take things seriously will be a critical skill for you to master.
Demos
Demeter (Goddess of Agriculture) you're a sweetie!! Demeter is the goddess of life and harvest, and values kindness and peace. you're probably the mom friend, and nothing feels quite as special to you as preparing a meal for somebody you love. that being said, you can be a little over-protective at times. while you'd hate to do it, you aren't afraid to throw some hands to protect those who can't protect themselves. remember that you can't be soft all the time - don't beat yourself up for what you've done in order to protect yourself.
#Deimos is the funniest because my friends azem is his result and like rip to the convocation#especially hades but like it is what it is#Demos getting demeter just also has me all !!!! because that's just him!#sorry the game equivalence didn't win the fight on being your guardian deity#Anthea getting the goddess of the moon also very fitting for their story honestly#tag games

I strongly prefer it when the Scions *don't* have Ancient counterparts.
I think it means more if they're part of the new souls born to the star either after Zodiark's first summoning or after the Sundering. Which is a whole thing!
Importantly, those were the souls that the Convocation were going to sacrifice to Zodiark to bring back the Ancients they lost.
To me, I think it's vastly important that G'raha, Y'shtola, Urianger, Thancred, the twins, that all of them are people Emet-Selch would throw away without a second thought. That to him, you're the only one worth half a damn... And broken as you are, only half a damn. And before he lets himself accept that you really are what's left of Azem, you're just someone else he's convinced isn't a person.
But I think these are the very souls Azem left the Convocation to save, even if Azem still didn't want to break the world. And these are the souls that Venat and the Twelve did break the world to save.
To me that's so much more important than any reincarnation romance (much as I adore that kind of story too). That to Azem and to you, these people matter anyway.
#ffxiv#ffxiv shadowbringers#ffxiv endwalker#ffxiv meta#ffxiv discussion#this isnt to yuk anybody's yum at all its just how i personally feel about it#and yes i think the Echo can manifest even in people w/o Ancient counterparts

Imagine being so mad about Azem that you play up hating them and expunge them from Convocation history for not aiding in the Final Days. But then you secretly make a crystal for them. Then make the title of your garlean official exiles, the Garlean word for "Traveler". Then you visit all the reflections and every location on the source and walk among the denizens there in their honor. But then when you have to sit still develop a traveling theatre troupe to visit far off locations to bring you back stories from beyond your domain. And the moment you meet even a sliver of Azem's existence from the Source, throw your entire backing behind them. Then see them fail and convince yourself they are a lost cause but still invite them to learn about their past and people in a faux Amaurot and then become the antithesis to solve the light corruption problem and leave them Azem's legacy to a ghost of your beloved friend.
In short, Emet-Selch is THE FFXIV Tsundere Emperor. Bar none.

premise: the suburbs by arcade fire
main character: social climb by i don't know how but they found me main conflict: pale white horse by the oh hellos vibes: a convocation of fauns (a faunvocation, if you will) by the oh hellos ending: remember my name by mitski
music (fanfiction) writing challenge!!
use your music taste to write a fanfiction or any story in this challenge!
first open your music app of choice and make sure your playlist is on shuffle -- then the first 5 songs that pop up will determine your:
Premise -- What your story is going to be about in the first place. What is going to be the main "selling point" of the story that sets it apart from the rest.
Main character -- Your main character's personality or inner struggle.
Main conflict -- The main conflict that drives your story and becomes an obstacle for your main character.
Vibes -- Is this going to be a light-hearted story? Angsty? Romantic? Whatever matches the vibe of the song.
Ending -- How this story is going to end.
yes, this is very vague, but that is the point! this can give you some ideas of what to write while also leaving plenty of room to be creative. feel free to switch up what songs represent what or even shuffle them a couple more times!
#oooh okay#i think i can do something with this#remember my name fits really well with the character i had in mind for social climb#but a convocation of fauns is a lot more lighthearted than i wanted the story to be after the suburbs#maybe i'll use that song for the setting instead#make it some kind of high fantasy medieval thing#make everybody fauns#or maybe it's lighter and more adventurous until the very end#when the main character accomplishes what he want#and finds out it's not what he wanted after all#idk. we'll see#this is a fun prompt though i'd recommend it#writing#writeblr#music writing

Prompts 3 and 7: âWait- are you jealous?â âYou wanna kiss me so bad~â
pairing: Percy Jackson x reader
word count: 1.4k
Warnings: none
ââââââââââââââââââââââââââââ
A/n: Hi darling! I deeply apologise for making you wait so long! đ In the start I had promised myself I would have written your story pretty early, but then I didnât have a scenario in mind! So Iâm really sorry if you waited like- two months, before getting your request done, hope you wonât unsubscribe because of this đ§Ąđ anyway, enjoy your reading!
P.S. I tried making this a bit longer as an apology
ââââââââââââââââââââââââââââ
You couldnât believe it. You were walking to the Empire State building with Percy Jackson, the famous son of Poseidon, the hero of the Olympus and also your enemy. You didnât really hate each other, you simply couldnât stand him because he always took the spotlight on himself, leaving the others with no time to shine. Even if he claimed that he didnât want all the attention for himself and that he even tried to hide from the spotlight you didnât quiete believe him. But here you were, walking by his side after a flash convocation from the Olympus, what did they possibly want?
You had tried to figure that out since Chiron had called you over at the big house, but you didnât give yourself a proper answer. You kept walking and you tried to ignore the glances that sometimes Percy sent your way. âToday the sky is really cloudyâ he said in a attempt to try and make conversation âI bet the king himself didnât wake up with the right footâ he joked, trying to ease at least a bit the palpable tension between the two of you. âI bet that heâs going to fulminate you one day if you keep talking about him like thatâ you said with a sharp glare threw in his direction.
After walking for about ten minutes more you both arrived at the entrance of the enormous building. âHere we areâ you said, and before Percy could add anything else you were already inside the skyscraper.
You entered the building and went straight to the receptionist â600th floorâ You simply said, giving the poor employer a death glare. He looked back emotionless âwe donât have a 600th floorâ he was doing his job, you didnât really blame me for it. âLook, youâre talking to a child of g/p and a son of Poseidon so you better let us in-â before you could finish Percy stepped in, gently pushing you aside.
âSorry for my friend here, but you see, they are having a bad day and a convocation from the gods really was the cherry on the top, but we need to get on Olympus as soon as possible, you wouldnât want Poseidon or g/p mad at you because you didnât let their children up, would you?â He pulled out a confident smile and you rolled your eyes.
The man looked between the two of you before stamping something on a paper sheet. âAnd what might your names be?â He asked, and you were starting to lose it âListen here you little-â but before you could add anything else Percy pulled you back again âPercy Jackson and Y/N L/N, now may we enter the elevator⊠please?â He looked at the employer expectantly.
He stamped something else before getting up and starting walking âthis wayâ Percy let out a sigh of relief. You and the son of Poseidon followed him until you were arrived âHave a nice trip to Olympusâ he said flatly, before walking back to his desk.
The two of you entered the elevator and when the door closed leaned over the mechanical boxâs âwallâ to catch your breath.
âIâm not your friendâ You suddenly blurted out âI didnât come here to keep you company or anything, I came here cause I was summoned by Zeus himself, so donât make up strange ideas in that head of yours.â You warned and crossed your arms.
He looked at you slightly hurt âHas a manticore stung you or something? Youâre more bitter than usual.â You shot him a death glare but said anything, his eyes had caught your interest, they were beautiful⊠For Hades, what were you thinking?!
You quickly looked away and waited as it played in the background an old song named âYou make my dreams (come true)â by some old singer you couldnât remember the name of. You wondered who had chosen the elevator playlist, it had probably been Apollo or one of the muses.
You glanced around and found Percy staring over at you, he had a strange look on his face, and you couldnât quite place the emotions he was feeling. âWhat is it? Do I have something on my face?â You asked, not because you were actually worried about your appearance, more to break the strange atmosphere that was building up.
He quickly shook his head âno no, I was just looking at you⊠youâd be even prettier if you smiled more sometimesâ he stated, and you looked at him, your mouth slightly agape. You tried to hide the forming blush of your cheeks, but you failed miserably. At that he let out a chuckle.
That only made you blush more, the tips of your ears red from embarrassment. âIâŠâ you tried to come back at him with something, but you just couldnât, he was too handsome in that moment. âJust shut it, would you sushi prince?â It was meant to be a sort of mocking insult, but it came out cuter than you expected.
You saw Percy take a step closer âSushi prince?â He ask, trying to be serious, but barely managing to hold in a laugh. âYeah, cause youâre a son of Poseidon, and fish call you prince, and you use fish to make sushi-â I looked up at him âyou know what? Drop it, it wasnât that great of an insultâ You simply concluded.
âNo why? No one had ever called me that, itâs⊠creative, letâs sayâ he tried. You gave him a look that said âreally?â And them the two of you bursted out laughing. Maybe he wasnât so bad after allâŠ
You unintentionally took a step closer to the boy, there had always been something that had attracted you to him in the years, but you denied it behind the excuse that you didnât like him, but oh boy if you did, liked him. But then something he said pulled you out of your thoughts. The elevator had stopped. Why? You asked yourself. Of course it would have been you.
He looked at you âthereâs no need to worry, Annabeth explained me once how these things work, we just have to call in the emergencyâ he stated calmly as he pressed the yellow button. âAnnabeth, huh?âyou asked him. You couldnât quite place what was the strange feeling that you felt in the pitch of your stomach when he named her, but you didnât like it.
âYeah, Annabethâ he replied and you just stared at him âyou and her are pretty close, arenât you?â You ask, annoyed. Percy just looked at you, slightly confused. âWell, yeah, but weâre only friends.â He stated, and you could hear in his voice that he was telling the truth. Then why didnât you believe him? âOh yeah, just friends, got itâ you retorted back, and you cursed yourself for not having held your tongue.
He seemed surprised but then⊠a sly smirk formed on his lips. âWait- are you jealous?â He smiled like a little kid on Christmas day. You looked away âNoâŠâ but your redness was hard to hide now. âYouâre jealous! Oh gods, youâre all redâ he laughed, and maybe, but just maybe, his voice wasnât as annoying as you remembered.
âWhat if I am?â You then asked him, still leaning on the wall of the elevator. He smiled even more cheekily âNo nothing, I just think itâs cuteâ he said, and leaned closer. You didnât push him away, yet you didnât lean in.
âWhy do you hate me?â He asked âI donât hate youâ you paused âI just think you are incredibly self-centred sometimesâ you admitted. âOh, thank youâ he replied sarcastically with a playful roll of his eyes âJust so you know, I donât find you self-centred, annoying or anything like that, youâre just impulsiveâ he stated, and he was standing so closeâŠ
You glanced at his lips, because how could you not? You then forced your glance back on his. His usual smirk returned âYou wanna kiss me so bad~â he teased and then leaned over the wall, pinning you to the elevator wall, but you werenât intimidated. âSo, what if I do, Jackson?â You asked in anticipation of what was about to come.
âOh nothingâ he answered and leaned closer, your lips just a few inches away âmaybe I want tooâ and then his lips crashed onto yours, and nothing else mattered, it was only the two of you, and you wouldnât trade that feeling for anything else.

Honestly, I love how the plotlines with Tingyun and Wonweek in 2.7 retroactively help explain why the consecration of the Harmony affected Aventurine the way it did in 2.1.
"The consecration has weird side effects as a result of the power of the Harmony" was honestly a fine explanation in and of itself, but it's cool to get a bit more detail about why Aventurine had those encounters with his "past" and "future" selves. The memoria-induced fracturing/dissociation that Sunday describes when talking about himself and Fugue is extremely similar to what we see with Aventurine in 2.1, both in the tangible effects and the factors that make it possible.
Both Wonweek and the convocation of Tingyuns are identified as the result of a special try-not-to-laugh candy that elicits uncontrollable laughter from those who consume it. (Penaconian consumables infused with specific emotions are something the story has leaned into since our excursion with Sparkle-as-Sampo in 2.0, so it doesn't surprise me at all that a product like this would exist.)
Notably, the candy doesn't have the fracturing side effect on everyone: it works as expected for March and the Trailblazer, and presumably most of the other Dreamchasers who participate in the challenge. Sunday identifies two specific factors that caused the atypical effects for him and Fugue: vulnerable/sensitive mental state, and a fragile sense of self.
Tingyun/Fugue fractured into dozens of memory fragments -- including a younger self embodying her childhood innocence and early memories on the Xianzhou, in much the same vein as Kakavasha for Aventurine.
Sunday, meanwhile, describes Wonweek as "another possibility of me": one that embodies traits he dislikes about himself, similar to the manifestation of Aventurine's "future." Wonweek and Future Aventurine are both externalizations of negative self-talk, giving Sunday and Aventurine a sounding board to express (and push back against) their own internalized self-loathing.
It's also interesting to me that Sunday identifies tuning as the solution for such fractures, adding credence to the idea that the Harmony's consecration (which itself appears to be a form of tuning), could disrupt a fragile psyche in much the same way Sunday can use his abilities to bring someone's mind back into alignment.
To be fair, I don't necessarily think Sunday anticipated this particular side effect of the consecration on Aventurine's mind. The events of Double Indemnity highlight the extent to which Sunday misjudged him by Aventurine's own design, falling for the facade that Aventurine fed him.
Aventurine is resilient... but he is also brittle, as evidenced by Acheron's voice line about him:
This lack of a strong inner self is something that Aventurine tries desperately to distract others from seeing, through the shallow and showy outer layers he presents to the world. But Sunday describes tuning as something that actively prevents people from being able to hide their inner self (very fitting for the Harmony, an Aeon that fundamentally blurs the boundaries between the Self and the Other).
To me, this adds another layer of significance to the presence of Kakavasha and Future Aventurine: they're there because Aventurine can't hide from them while under the Harmony's influence. He's so used to lying to himself about his true intentions that his childhood innocence and his nihilism have to physically manifest in front of him in order to be heard.
Tl;dr Aventurine's experiences under the effect of the Harmony in 2.1 make even more sense in hindsight, and I love the retroactive layers that 2.7 gives to his story arc.

While I'm ancient-trio-posting, wanna hear a bit about their dynamic?
Hythlodaeus and Hades are old friends, roommates, even. A genuinely mature, established couple. I haven't really thought too far back in time yet, so maybe childhood friends to lovers because no one else in my story has this trope yet. I leave it open-ended for now. What matters is that they're very chill and stable together.
Azem, not-yet-Azem but a mere apprentice of Venat, has a certain secret, harmless to the world, but potentially ranging from laughable, cringy, personally embarrassing to legally punishable, should it be brought in front of the Convocation, like all lies it's doomed to be revealed in time, he already hangs out with one of the Big People and there are talks about Venat's retirement, our little not-yet-Azem feels like he might get recommended, and must find help with his silly secret before that.
Hythlodaeus, Chief of the Bureau of the Architect, has ever been kind and patient with not-yet-Azem's concept submissions, and generally seems like a reliable and open-minded person, so our guy asks for his advice on the matter. Of course he isn't let down, the nitty gritty of it I'll leave for later. The important part: he and Hyth grow closer, and Hades, already being joined at the hip with Hyth, is in on the secret as well. It's just a vulnerability that I use as a means to win over Hades's heart. Be genuine, beg for his help, rely on him, and he's yours.
Venat retires, the new Azem takes the seat, his secret's safe/resolved (forget about it, it's played its role of the glue for our trio), things are chill for a while, the trio grows into a proper throuple, Hades is recommended for the seat of Emet-Selch by both his lovers, but by Azem most ardently (and selfishly: he feels like a white crow among the Convocation and wants another freak on the team. Hades finds it sweet though).
The status quo moves to the known canon where Azem travels a lot, sometimes summons his buddies to his side, he tends to disappear from Amaurot for weeks and months on end, Hyth and Hades are left to themselves, seemingly things are the same as they've always been, but the joy of reuniting with their wayward lover, and the pining when he's gone, is bigger in Hades than Hyth. Of course they, the two mature people holding hands from the beginning of times, don't discuss this.
Azem may not even realize what he's doing- well, ain't that most azems in a nutshell. He just exists, loves his partners, shines for them with equal warmth like sun. It's not that Hyth doesn't like being sunkissed, no, it's Hades who gets a bit too excited, tries to mask that however he can, perhaps HythHades pretend that nothing's changed, but, yknow, subtle cracks. Hades's heart grows more fond due to the time and distance that separate them so often. Of course he's terrified and he sees what this does to the balance of their poly, it's not welcome, but it won't go away.
Enter Hyth's self-esteem issues, and how neatly that weaves into his following sacrifice to bring forth Zodiark. Even though Azem's nowhere to be seen, it's fine, he'll return, it's just a tantrum, the Convocation will forgive him, Hades will be left in good hands, he and Azem seem to be happier without Hyth anyway. (no, no, no, no-) Of course, the latter's left unsaid, only a smile on display and vague words of affirmation for the shellshocked Hades.
Through the sacrifice Hyth drives up his value. He's forever important to Hades now, forever on his mind, his guiding star. I view Hyth's selfless act as selfish too (just as Raha's but he isn't relevant here), a desperate act of a soul not only loving, but desperate for love. Hyth gets what he wanted. In a fucked up way, he's happier as a part of the moon. He never has to contend with the sun again.
#the trio stuff's still wip because i only started thinking about them half a year ago after falling for emet#and through him i finally connected to azem who legit didn't exist until this year#he has a bit of lore and flavor now but i think it's best delivered within the comic i hope you look forward to it#sorry for not even telling his name lmao#azem#hythlodaeus#emet-selch#emet selch#hythazemet#text post

"That sounds incredibly concerning."
And he also hoped it wasn't related to what Ashe was investigating for him. Picking up her report again, he gnawed on his lip. Hm...
"Depends on how long it takes me to get through this. And how thorough this particular report is..." He looked up at Hades, frowning deeply. "...I feel like something is entirely off in the city."
Since the mask only covered the top half of his face, his pout was extremely visible.
"In other words, nothing I'd hoped. Ugh."
He put a hand on his hip. "An increased workload is irritating enough as it is, but as if that wasn't enough, I now also have to worry about the Underworld itself sending me signals about something-- or possibly several somethings-- touching the threshold but not crossing. I don't know what it is, just that it feels...extremely uncomfortable." He'd rather not explain in detail what it actually felt like.
"Safe to say I'm looking forward to not being in my office while I try to nap. ...How long before you're finished?"
#acemuses#;gremlin#;aetheryte: forging ahead to the end#alkjgdalskgj noooooo lmao#sometimes i like to remember the story they did for hyth and that#in the convocation building they actually dont wear their masks saldkjgaljg#i lvoe that so much#but here they have to in hyths office lmao#...even tho hyth doesnt

im really curious about the sort of art that the ancients could've made. theater was evidently big, given emet-selch's penchant for it and the fact that it's mentioned in an elpis side-quest that writing for plays (and therefore, performing) is an occupation that actually exists. what does a culture that discourages self-expression to an extreme produce artistically? i'm certain that elements common to modern sensibilities exist -- stories about love, hubris, tragedy etc etc tend to crack through any attempt to smother existential imperfections. but i wonder what that would look, performance-wise. what did their music sound like. what sort of costumes would they make. did they make plays about people or ideas (like deities or personifications of nature). what does a society that denies loss do when given the opportunity to interpret pain. what made certain plays contentious. did they have to be approved by the convocation's seat of altima. was it propaganda. the world unsundered was never meant to be taken too literally but i mean if youre putting that on the table then im gonna try to play with it

Help me construct a timeline of the final days, please feel free to contribute the receipts Im too fogged up to find rn or to offer fact checking information. Please do not correct me without showing me the text that confirms itâthis timeline is built off of notes I took a while back when going through the story again. Additionally if you are one of the BAMFs who own Encyclopedia Eorzea vol 2 and have exclusive information to provide, I will knight you.
-Elpis
-After an indeterminate amount of time, but long enough that Pandaemonium has had time to happen, the Endsinger begins to corrupt Etheirys
-This begins slowly in lands distant from Amaurot, most likely Thavnairâs equivalent on Etheirys
-The convocation Discusses Solutions but ultimately does not make any lasting decisions
-At some point, for reasons unknown, Azem leaves the Convocation. This is such an explosive resignation that they choose not to appoint a successor but instead leave the position empty going forward. If someone will go get that dialogue from the NPCs in Amaurot Iâll kiss you.
-The Final Days reaches Amaurot, or at least is close enough that the Convocation begins actually making decisions
-They settle on summoning Zodiark, a creation of immense power and scale that requires the aether of approximately half the population (whether of Etheirys or of Amaurot Iâm unsure but I suspect the former). Loghrif is initially proposed to pilot their aether mecha but Mitron doesnât want her wife to leave her and instead the task falls to Elidibus.
-Zodiark is created, an aetheric shield is created around Etheirys, and people slowly begin picking up the pieces after the apocalypse
-one of the things Zodiark has done is rewrite some of the fundamental laws that govern the star i.e. aetherological and physical laws. I know there are specifics somewhere.
-people do not have a good time with these laws
-At some point, a faction grows that proposes sacrificing the new life that has been able to thrive on Etheirys to bring back the old people and the old ways.
-The fighting around this grows so severe, Elidibus separates himself from Zodiark in order to once again act in his authority as the Emissary.
-Venatâs followers form somewhere around this time and determine how to create Hydaelyn and imprison Zodiark. I believe myths of the realm discusses one of the twelve developing the technology to do this, I would need to watch the scene at the sanctum of the twelve again.
-Get Sundered Idiot

tbh one Azem reincarnation I also lean towards as I was rambling in the tags the other day about, is Haldrath on account of becoming a wandering unaffiliated dragoon post-Incident, partially out of necessity but also because with hindsight now his story mirrors what Azem did to the convocation after Zodiark.
The follow up to that headcanon is "Lizzy what about the Dragoon 50 stuff? It's so vague about why we see him there because the reincarnation lore wasn't established." That's where I produce a box from under the table and open it to give you a peek of the headcanon that while Haldrath was Azem, yes, while he was in his wandering era he fathered children with commonfolk and smash cut down the bloodline to Some Shepherd Boy Called Estinien being a lost prince of Ishgard (Do not tell him it will ruin everything if he knows or this ever becomes plot relevant. He'll never come home to Ishgard ever again for one :P)
#ffxiv#endwalker spoilers#Also I am not putting Ishgard through this. Hilda would hunt me for sport personally.#if you look at original Estinien under the helmet next to Haldrath's face they look startlingly similar#... Frog put a grandfatherly hand on his shoulder once and had no idea why
