fucking. new guy at work printed wrong expiration dates. there was 4 kg of chicken that would expire tomorrow, and 10 kg that would expire the day after tomorrow, but he labeled all of it as expiring tomorrow at noon, so we would be throwing out a baby seal's weight in chicken for no reason. and we wouldn't have any chicken left. anyway when i found out I was so pissed off because it had happened before and yesterday i got a freaking warning because i was using ingredients that were labeled wrong and didn't notice. and this guy is always walking around all confident like he knows everything already but he doesn't.
so it was closing time, i was pissed off about all that and i was cleaning the place where we keep the pizza screens, so i put them on the conveyor belt of the oven which i didn't notice was still on. when you out an empty pizza screen in the oven, it overheats and starts to smoke. if you put all of the pizza screens in the pizzeria in the oven, you get a lot of smoke. which sucks. it's not terrible but it sucks. and the thing is I've put the screens on the oven hundreds of times and every time i checked if it was on until today. and it made me think of industrial accidents, when someone clocks in, does all the things they do every day, and just messes up and everything blows up.

If you've never worked food service, let me give you a taste of what working at a pizza hut circa 2013 was like.
When I was 15 I was hired as a cook at my local pizza hut. My friend was a waitress there and I figured making pizza couldn't be that hard and I was half right.
In concept the pizza was ridiculously easy. Slap down some premade dough, one spoon of sauce, one cup of cheese, and put on whatever toppings then put it in the conveyor belt oven. What those directions fail to factor in is that while you are doing all that you will be:
Hit with 6+ to go orders nearly simultaneously if there's a football game on.
Getting yelled at by your manager if they think you are shaking the cheese cup to fit more in it.
More than likely alone in the kitchen because all the employees who smoke take a cig break at the same time.
Hopped up on so much caffeine from the free fountain refills that you can't feel your hands (or all you can feel is your hands).
Making multiple menu special pizzas that are basically identical except for one or two swapped ingredients so you better be paying attention or else that belligerent drunk at table three might flip shit on the waitress over some onions.
Having to make that dumb bbq chicken pizza with the hand drawn bbq sauce swirly on it ten times a night and it had to be perfect or you better believe you'll hear it from management.
Also running the fryer which depending on the store may have no settings for the only fried item you offer: wings. Instead you will be directed to press a button with the words "mozz stix" sloppily sharpied on it. Wings need two cycles of the cryptic "mozz stix" setting or else they will basically be raw so make sure to remember that too while you are also the only employee in the entire kitchen. (I'm not joking. This is the actual set up we had)
When you finally get a break, you will get the honor of having to pay for food at the place you work.
I'm not even kidding I think food service jobs are the hardest customer service jobs that exist and if you have them on your resume long enough that it's clear you could maintain them people should be begging on their hands and fucking knees for you to work for them.
