(📺🖤📺🖤📺🖤📺🖤📺🖤📺🖤📺🖤📺🖤)
Mr. Puzzles has manufactured everything about himself, including his voice: (A long post!! 📺)
Tumblr media
A thing I've noticed is just how often his voice changes, most notably when he's switching from his deeper narrator voice to his more energetic showman voice in the promo trailer. ^^^
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's another example from the song. Both lines are said in two distinct voices, none of them being the usual one we hear from him. One has a more pronounced Transatlantic accent and the other has an American one. We can assume someone else is talking and he just overlays himself on top, but he is explicitly the one shown to speak in that moment. ^^^
Tumblr media
This next one might be a stretch, but I think the supporting female vocals could be him as well. It is heavily implied he works alone and doesn't trust others with his vision so it kinda makes sense that he would also sing the song on his own. (If that's true damn does he have a good voice) ^^^
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even the critical podcast host could be him. The first voice is deeper and rougher while the second is more sly and has a distinct influxion that is unique to Puzzles, so they could be just his inner thoughts and insecurities audibly manifesting through some complicated technical means.
He is alone in his office, staring at all the monitors that display his hard work. And he is not satisfied. His mind begins to wander and his self doubt begins to manifest out loud in the form of others criticizing him, further fueling his crippling perfectionism. ^^^
Tumblr media
Also here, when his lifelong dream is finally met he can't contain his (ever so slightly malicious) glee, and his voice deepens and begins to glitch out. ^^^
Tumblr media
Also a bit unrelated but did y'all notice that when he says 'crying' he is shown with his crazy big smile? You know, his main expression on all the promotional material.
Conclusion?
I think his upbeat showman voice isn't how he usually sounds, but what he thinks others would like him to sound like. He has to keep up the energy that the audience has come to expect of him so he manufactured the perfect tv host voice to keep as many tuned in as possible.
I headcanon his real voice to be deeper, raspier and very monotone. I think that while he was smoking he had to turn off his voice synthesizer so the smoke won't damage it, which is why he doesn't talk in the scene. He has lost every bit of himself by molding into what he thinks people would like, and any reminder that he was once someone else makes him uncomfortable.
I'm going insane chat.

On the morning of the 12th of April, 2014, a 911 call came in to the dispatch centre in Pleasant Grove, Utah. When the operator picked up, there was a panicked man on the other end of the line. His name was Darren West, and he reported that he had just found something horrific inside a box in his garage. He believed that it was a miscarriage.
Police arrived at the home at 5330 E 2000 North. When they pulled up outside the single family home, they observed that the garage door was open. It appeared as though the family had been spring cleaning, with items strewn about the garage, and boxes scattered on the floor. Darren was in a state of hysteria, sitting outside the home.
He told the responding officers he had just been released from prison on drug manufacturing charges. He was in the process of moving back into the home that was owned by his parents, and his three daughters – ages 13, 18, and 20 – were still living there. Before he had gone to prison, he had lived there with his wife, Megan Huntsman, but they had since broken up, and she had move out of the home and was living with her new boyfriend in a trailer in Salt Lake City.
When he arrived at the home that morning, he and his parents tackled the garage. It had always been cluttered, with piles of boxes upon piles of boxes. While clearing out a section of the garage, Darren noticed a box tightly wrapped in duct tape. Curiosity piqued, he opened the box to find a white trash bag inside, which appeared to contain something. Carefully, he unwrapped the first bag, only to find another bag within it, also wrapped in duct tape.
With growing unease, Darren ripped off the tape and opened the second plastic bag. A foul odor immediately hit him, causing him to scrunch up his face in disgust. One of the neighbours had complained about a horrible smell coming from the garage just a few weeks earlier. To the neighbour, it smelt like the mounted deer head in the garage had gone rancid. But Darren would soon learn that it was something much more gruesome that had gone off. Peering inside the plastic bag, he was horrified to discover the lifeless body of a fully decomposed baby.
But this was only the beginning...

now i haven't finished the dream thieves yet (i'm like,,, 7 chapters away from finishing) and i think this may contain spoilers???? but i'm not too sure yet. i'm basically gonna word vomit. i'm sorry for not using any quotes, i wish i could but i only have the ebook version and a very limited storage space on my phone where i can only have ~two books downloaded
like a normal person, i enjoy listening to video essays, see what creators want to explain to their audience and leave with a certain view, try to come to my own arguments about certain points in the videos, see if i can apply some points to other aspects of my life etc etc. (this was the type of shi that helped me with my eng lit essays rip i miss alevels) and like a normal british citizen i looked up stuff about classism in the uk. in the end, i found a video essay about classism in general and how the ultra rich try to mimic being poor to get away from their hard issues that comes with being rich (which, frankly, is probably a lot less compared to someone who is working class).
recently, i was talking to my friend about specifics in the book about certain characters and i remember we went onto the convo of making music playlists for the characters. they said "it's gonna be hard for adam [...] cuz his whole thing is about being unknowable" and it always struck me with how unknowable he truly is when reading his character because his character is intrinsically linked to his working class background. (context: i'm a middle class child of immigrants who built themselves in the uk)
it's very clear the kind of social commentary stiefvater wanted to make using adam's character with how isolating and alienating it can be coming from a working class background trying to assimilate yourself into a society of those protected and privileged enough to not have any problems with accessing opportunities. how class is a huge obstacle between interpersonal relationships and feeling safe enough to be vulnerable with your issues with being working class. how difference in class can cause one-sided shame because of the meritocratic society we're living in. how, no matter how much money you earn or how many connections you can make, your attachment to your working class identity can be enough reason to aim for something supernaturally larger than yourself.
it's evident that other characters overlook adam's social class because he's a "self-made man" (or smth) and mainly because he's their friend: adam. however, when we get a chapter in his pov, class is a driving factor in how he interacts and views everyone. we can see the privilege gansey and ronan have for being able to not even consider class as an intimidating aspect about themselves to a normal person, but it's everything to adam in the sense that he feels like his earned money doesn't give him access to a similar respect.
now that i truly think about it, it was a good idea for adam not to join them in monmouth manufacturing because it just feels like they're... mocking him in an indirect way? they have the ability to choose to live in a nice place and instead chose to live in a random, run-down building because it seemed aesthetic. adam was forced to live in a rundown trailer because that's all they could have afforded. i know gansey had good intentions for wanting adam to join them, but everything that he likes as an aesthetic (monmouth manufacturing, the run-down camaro, eating mint leaves instead of gum) can seem like he's flaunting the fact he can choose that lifestyle without any consequences.
back to the point of the meritocratic society (which we usually assume in books that take place in a similar world as our own) creating shame because of their class: the assumption that because someone has worked hard to earn what they have gives them a right to be proud. but this is the opposite for adam as he fights with the fact that he could have maybe be seen as even more equal to gansey if he had just been born with wealth.
we can frame it as, maybe, despite gansey's desire to appear working class, it only broadens the distance between him and adam. it only worsens adam's difficult relationship with his class shame despite probably wanting to be more relatable or even laid-back.
when reading the second book after his sacrifice, i was confused as to why adam was so un-adam-like. i mean, in the first book i didn't really understand him because of his huge insistance that his class makes him inherently inferior to everyone he surrounds himself with and i don't see class as an issue myself.
however, his sacrifice basically was watering the seed of ambition that was planted when he decided to aim for aglionby. it becamse clearer to me how much this opportunity to be superior, even if it's supernatural and terrifying, is important for him understanding in what he thinks he lacks. by those thoughts of what he lacks, he thought that this chance to be cabeswater's channel could be a way to compensate for his inferior social class. or something.
anyways, thank you for coming to my ted talk. this is not proofread, and my sister keeps nagging at me to shower. also i simp for gansey do not think this is me trying mischaracterising him i'm just trying to understand the theme of class in this series and having gansey as a figure to compare to is literally integral.

With all the tidbits from the trailer and before the actual episode drops, here's my DD theory.
So we've all made parallel between Uzi's Solver form and disassembly drones. But Solver clearly prefers to work in more fleshy from. We've also seen V's Solver form and in the current timeline she is a disassembly drone.
With the whole cultish/religious vibe new episode seems to have, I'm assuming that Absolute Solver have been around for quite a while and JcJohnson was not just perfectly aware of it but actually learned to use it, by creating DD's cores, that gives them the whole regeneration thing, while also containing the Solver core from taking over them. Which is why DDs have a way more polished and robotic form - they are manufactured from Zombie drones overtaken by the Absolute Solver.

An analysis of Xiao’s mental state
Okay so I’ve finally finished gathering all the info to make a coherent post about this. It took a hot minute but it was so worth it. The new trailer is a gold mine and it confirms some things that I’ve been thinking about for awhile now. Given the time of year, I think it’s time I pointed out something that’s so obvious, yet I have never seen a discussion about.
And that is Xiao’s (and his fellow yakshas) experiences with psychosis, and what it could mean for 3.4.
⚠️ DISCLAIMER ⚠️
I am not claiming that Hoyoverse intended to write Xiao with a mental illness and I am not diagnosing him with a condition. Psychosis is a symptom, not a condition in and of itself, and it can be caused by many different things, not just mental illness. I am also not going to be exploring a cause, simply pointing out that Xiao’s experiences as they have been shown to us so far (as of the ‘Endless Suffering’ teaser trailer) are an accurate depiction of psychosis.
That all being said, please proceed with caution. This post talks about and contains examples of delusions, auditory and visual hallucinations, disordered thoughts, and other features of psychosis, as well as character death. If these are triggers for you, please be careful.
Also, obviously there are spoilers ahead.
Discussion begins beneath the cut.
According to the DSM-5, psychosis is “defined by the presence of delusions, hallucinations, formal thought disorder (ie, disorganized speech), or abnormal psychomotor behavior (grossly disorganized or catatonic behavior), not better explained by another mental disorder, substance use disorder, or medical condition.” I realize that probably means a whole lot of nothing to most people, but don’t worry. Let’s take it one piece at a time.
Here, delusions do not refer to the in-universe devices made by the Fatui. Delusions, as a feature of psychosis, are false beliefs about reality that a person cannot be dissuaded of, even when the belief is undeniably proven to be false.
Let me give you a real life example. Imagine you have a friend over for dinner and you notice they haven’t touched their drink (let’s say it’s soda). You ask them what’s wrong. They say they refuse to drink the soda because the manufacturer is putting poison in it. You tell them that can’t be true because it would be on the news if it was true. You tell them that you have never gotten sick from this soda. You even drink a cup of it in front of them and nothing happens. Still, they insist it is poisoned.
This is an example of a common delusion. However, delusions come in many different forms.
Now, Xiao doesn’t immediately appear to have any delusions, admittedly. Even if he didn’t, that wouldn’t mean he isn’t experiencing psychosis; of the four features, only one needs to be present. That being said, I do want to point out one potential delusion:
His belief that his presence (or more specifically, his power) harms mortals.
I want to be clear that I am not talking about his backstory here. Xiao harmed mortals while enslaved to a previous god and I am not saying that didn’t happen, or that it was a result of a mental illness (because it wasn’t). What I am saying is he seems to believe that just existing around people can and will harm them, when what we see in game says the opposite. And no, I’m not just referring to vision holders, but normal people as well.
He claims that adeptal energy harms mortals. We see this several times in game. He says it when we first meet him.
Tumblr media
And still seems to believe so during Perilous trial. (Otherwise Paimon wouldn’t be comforting him over the thought.)
Tumblr media
Yet, we as the traveler, nor any other character he has interacted with on or off screen (that we know of) has fallen ill. Now for vision holders (aka playable characters) that can be explained away. For whatever reason, visions seem to increase a mortal’s tolerance to this energy.
Tumblr media
So sure, if we assume his power really is dangerous, then ours, xiangling’s, and the Perilous trial gang’s lack of sickness from being around him doesn’t disprove this belief. But you know what does?
This NPC.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And all the visionless soldiers from the fight against Osial.
Tumblr media
And everyone that passes Xiao in the harbor from the newest official video.
Tumblr media
This isn’t even mentioning event content, like the time that we call for Xiao in the harbor to taste Xiangling’s cooking, or the in-game novels about the yakshas and adepti, which have only good things to say. You would think that one of those legends would tell of the horrors that follow the Vigilant Yaksha if such things were true.
But okay. Let’s say that none of these interactions were ‘long enough’ to cause the harm he believes will come to those around him. That still doesn’t explain why Yelan has a voice line about his presence aiding visionless mortals.
Tumblr media
It doesn’t make sense that his presence could both have a comforting effect and a harmful one. And considering Yelan has an account of a person who had a (recurrent) positive experience from Xiao’s presence, and we have no accounts of a person who had a negative one, I’m inclined to believe Yelan. Yet, as far as we are made aware, he still believes enough contact, even with vision holders, will hurt them.
Remember, I’m talking about his power, his presence, not his karma.
See the parallel?
Let’s move on to the next feature.
Hallucinations are experiences of sensations that are not actually present. They can be heard, seen, felt, smelled, tasted, etc. Most people hallucinate from time to time, especially if they’re tired. Ever thought you heard someone call your name and they didn’t actually say anything? Pet owners, ever thought that you saw your pet walking in the corner of your eye, when they were sitting right next to you? Those are examples of hallucinations.
This feature is more obvious for Xiao. Starting with the most obvious, he experiences visual hallucinations, which were very clearly shown in the ‘Endless Suffering’ video.
Now before people brush this off as an artistic representation of his karma haunting him, may I remind you that there is literally a scene where the hallucination is shown through his eyes, and when he blinks it disappears, replaced by a little girl with a replica mask.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Notice how he sees the hallucination before looking to the little girl’s location. This shows that he was hallucinating beforehand, not mistaking what he saw for something else.
I believe the ‘other Xiao’ that he was shown to be fighting with earlier in the video to be something else. Due to the black aura coming off of him there, that seemed to be some sort of miasma or karmic manifestation. This makes sense, as he was fighting other monsters like hilichurls just beforehand. Regardless, the Xiao with the black aura and the greenish Xiao from the harbor were intentionally made distinct to show that they are not the same thing.
Similarly, he might also experience auditory hallucinations. I wasn’t able to catch something from the video that seemed to be this kind of hallucination, though Xiao does have a voice line about hearing voices.
Tumblr media
This one is less concrete, as this is a fantasy world and the voices he hears could very well be really there. He tells us that he also hears the wishes of all those that wish on the lanterns at lantern rite. It could be an adeptus thing. So feel free to believe this one or not, but I wanted to put it out there.
Next is formal thought disorder. This feature refers to impaired ability to sustain and express coherent thoughts. Xiao does not seem to struggle with this at all, so I won’t dwell on it. Again, he doesn’t need to experience this to be experiencing psychosis, since we already established he is experiencing other features.
Abnormal psychomotor behavior looks at outward responsiveness to the environment. Both behavior that is unusually active (combativeness, restlessness, emotional agitation) and unusually absent (unresponsiveness) are possible manifestations of this feature.
Xiao is said to experience unprovoked bouts of anger and fear in the book ‘Yakshas: The Guardian Adepti’ just as his fallen comrades did as well. This book outright confirms that the other Yaksha all experienced psychotic episodes prior to their deaths and is both a great source of evidence for this topic as well as just a great lore read. The cutscene of Bosacius’s last moments is also a great example of psychosis. But I digress.
I was surprised to find that Xiao’s voice lines indicate he is pretty restless. Hoyo doesn’t repeat information unless it is important, and Xiao has not one (1), not two (2), but three (3) voice lines about his dislike for standing around or being idle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Seems pretty restless to me.
Returning to the video once again, we can infer from the little girl’s dialogue that Xiao is at times unresponsive. If you want to watch again for yourself, the dialogue is from 2:22-2:39.
If you don’t, the scene is of the girl speaking to Xiao, but he doesn’t respond to her comments about her mask, or her asking if he is okay. Even when the girl calls to her grandfather to give Xiao some rice wine pudding, his only reaction is to close his eyes.
This is very unlike Xiao. From the Perilous trial quest, we know that he does not become withdrawn like this when tired, so exhaustion from fighting wouldn’t explain his behavior. He has never been shown to act like this, even around strangers. If he didn’t want to interact, he would simply teleport away. Except Venti’s later comment of the rice wine on his breath implies that he stayed. Therefore, this also seems to be evidence of abnormal behavior.
Everything I have discussed so far are positive symptoms, which cover abnormal experiences of psychosis. There can also be negative symptoms, or reduced experiences, that occur at the same time. These can be inability to show emotion, apathy, or withdrawing from social experiences, among other things. Presence of these symptoms starts to lean towards a specific condition, namely schizophrenia, but since they are relevant to Xiao’s behavior, I still want to mention them.
While Xiao openly admits to not understanding or experiencing human emotions, this is clearly an adeptus thing. Other full-blooded adepti such as Cloud Retainer share this experience, so I won’t consider it here. And while Xiao says he can’t understand human emotions, he seems to be able to sympathize, or at the very least treat others’ emotions with respect.
On the other hand, for what otherwise seems like an improvement, Xiao’s want to rest instead of stay with Venti concerns me. Firstly, because he has been shown to deny the need or want for rest every time it comes up in recent events. Secondly, because their dialogue indicates that late nights drinking on the roof are somewhat commonplace for them. Thirdly, because he was actively experiencing other psychotic features directly prior to the interaction, and him turning down Venti’s offer could be him starting to withdraw socially.
Tumblr media
It should be noted that Xiao has already almost succumbed to his karma once, and the description of that event seems to suggest that he was deep into a psychotic episode at the time. This parallels the fates of his closest comrades, who all met their ends in this way. It is implied that his condition has since improved, though lantern rite is always a difficult time for him, and the trailer is letting us see for the first time what that really means.
Unfortunately, people who experience psychosis and psychotic disorders have poorer life expectancies than their peers. In game, psychosis has been shown to be a staple disorder of yaksha who are overwhelmed by their karma and will soon die. And right now is the time of year that it is all at its worst for the yaksha.
Death flags are waving for Xiao.
At the same time, his support system has grown larger than ever. Not only does he have Zhongli, but the traveler, Xiangling, Yelan, Yanfei, Itto, Shinobu, Qiqi, Baizhu, and Venti. Osial has been buried in the ocean once again and the earth rests. Burdens such as Bosacius’s unknown fate have been lifted off his shoulders, and he’s learned that maybe his siblings’ wishes for a mundane life aren’t out of reach after all.
With update 3.4 only a few days away, we’ll soon get to see what all this means for him going forward. Hoyoverse posted this video a few days before the update for a reason, and its contents show Xiao’s struggle in such a raw, new way for a reason. I can only assume we will see his current health addressed in some way, and while I will prepare for the worst, I will also hope for the best.
As an aside, I would like to take the time to applaud Hoyoverse for the effort they have put into making these depictions accurate. Psychosis is clearly an important topic when it comes to the yaksha and the effects of the bad karma they receive from their duty. I believe it is being used as a foreshadowing tool now, but despite being used for narrative, the disorder has been accurately and diversely represented amongst the yaksha (Bosacius’s cutscene vs Xiao’s teaser trailer), and most importantly, these characters remain fully fleshed-out people, not caricatures of mental illness.
Xiao is psychotic. He is also kind, loyal, and a strong warrior. He mentors others when they ask. He loves almond tofu and music. His dream is to dance among flowers, free from his duty as a yaksha. And despite Xiao’s past, of the violence he was forced to commit as a slave, and the danger that comes with battling alongside him, Hoyo makes a point to show that he has sworn to protect mortals and has never wished to harm anybody.
That is a distinction that is sorely underrepresented in media. Experiencers of psychosis are not inherently dangerous or violent, and of the two psychotic episodes they have depicted in detail, neither included violence toward people around the sufferer.
Once the second dropped, I couldn’t continue keeping this to myself, not when this gem of a detail has been going unnoticed by many. So once again, may I just say: well done, Hoyoverse. Well done.
Thanks for coming to my TedTalk. Happy Lantern Rite.

The Witch from Mercury: The Story So Far
So, a lot of developments happened in the first part of Witch from Mercury that will almost certainly affect events in the next part, but it occurred to me that some folks, for various reasons, might not remember everything and be a bit confused. Below I have written a cheat sheet of plot points for anyone who might need or want it; enjoy : )
Note: Contains spoilers for the prologue, the Cradle Planet short story, episodes 1-12, and the season 2 trailer; also very long
*The Holder system of the Asticassia School of Technology gives both status recognition and the hand of Miorine Rembran in marriage to whichever student pilot proves themselves the best by mobile suit dueling. The current Holder is Suletta Mercury, who, after defeating the school’s other top pilots, promised Miorine that she would not lose any duels, which all but guarantees the two will be wed on Miorine’s next birthday. The system was instituted by Miorine’s father, Delling Rembran, the President of the Benerit Group, but it is unpopular with other CEOs of rival corporations in the Group, and there is a possibility they might opt to nullify it in the event of Delling’s death.
*Suletta’s interactions with her mobile suit, Gundam Aerial, has shown that Aerial has some degree of sentience, but this is currently known only to Suletta and her mother, Prospera Mercury, and has not been explored in detail (yet). This sentience is possibly related to the fact that Aerial is currently the only Gundam that does not harm their pilot due to data overload, and instead seems to handle that function herself, but the reason why that is has also not been explored in detail (yet).
*The revelation of Aerial’s status as a Gundam, which had been outlawed by Delling around the time he ordered the attack on the Vanadis Institute, prompted Miorine to form a company called Gund-Arm Inc. to prevent Aerial from being dismantled and Suletta from being expelled. Miorine enlisted Earth House, a group of Earthian students who had befriended Suletta and whose mechanics had repaired Aerial, as her first employees. Due to the influence of Suletta and Earth House, Miorine researched Gund technology, and opted for the company to manufacture prosthetics. Earth House was present for an attack that took place at Plant Quetta and survived thanks to the actions of Nika Nanaura.
*Guel Jeturk, former heir of Jeturk Heavy Machinery and ex-fiance of Miorine, lost his status as Holder after being defeated by Suletta. This disgrace resulted in him being ousted from his house and camping on school grounds, and eventually running away from his family to join a construction company, only to be captured by an Earthian mercenary group called Dawn of Fold as part of their plan to attack Plant Quetta. Guel escaped and attempted to combat Dawn of Fold in a stolen mobile suit, but instead battled and mistakenly killed his own father, Vim Jeturk. Guel’s current whereabouts are unknown, and his half-brother, Lauda Neill, has become the new CEO of Jeturk.
*The boy that most know as Elan Ceres, heir of Peil Technologies, is actually referred to by Peil’s four CEOs as Enhanced Person No. 5, a boy whose memories have been erased and body reshaped to appear identical to the real Elan, who uses body doubles to test pilot Gundam Pharact to avoid the harm or potential death that most Gundams inflict on their pilots due to overloading them with data. No. 5 is the successor of No. 4, who duelled with Suletta and seemed likely to become her friend, until the CEOs of Peil decided he was no longer useful and murdered him; no one is currently aware of No. 4′s death, or that No. 4, No. 5, and Elan are all different people, except for the CEOs of Peil, No. 5, Elan, Belmeria Winston, and possibly Prospera. No. 5 is currently an employee of Gund-Arm Inc., but was not present at the Plant Quetta incident.
*Shaddiq Zenelli, the heir of Grassley Defense Systems, is unlike his father, Sarius Zenelli, who wants to abolish Gundams. Shaddiq instead sees Gundams as potentially useful, and attempted to seize control of Gund-Arm Inc., but was defeated by the combined strength of Suletta and Earth House in a duel. Shaddiq then used his connection with Nika to contact Dawn of Fold directly, and hired them to attack Plant Quetta and assassinate President Delling, with the intent to cause chaos for the Benerit Group. No one knows that Shaddiq is responsible for the Plant Quetta attack, except for his lieutenants in Grassley House, the leadership of Dawn of Fold, and possibly Nika; Vim was also aware, but his death rendered that irrelevant.
*During its attack on Plant Quetta, Dawn of Fold revealed that it had two Gundam pilots of its own, Norea Du Noc and Sophie Pulone. Sophie briefly fought Suletta, but she and the rest of Dawn of Fold retreated when Suletta displayed the increased firepower of the Rebuild version of Aerial. It seems likely Norea, and possibly Sophie as well, will infiltrate Asticassia and threaten Nika with a knife.
*Prospera has affirmed her identity as Elnora Samaya, a former Vanadis pilot, wife of Nadim Samaya, and mother of Ericht Samaya. Her former colleague, Belmeria, suspects that Prospera desires revenge against the Benerit Group, and Prospera has outright confirmed that to Aerial, but the exact nature of that revenge is currently unclear. Despite the fact that Delling ordered the attack on the Vanadis Institute that killed most of Prospera’s colleagues and family, Prospera is currently working with him on a secret project called Quiet Zero, which for reasons unknown, requires combat data from Aerial.
*As CEO of Gund-Arm, Miorine purchased a space ship that can carry all of Gund-Arm’s employees, and has offered friendship to Feng Jun of the Space Assembly League, a group that previously offered to smuggle Miorine to Earth, but about which little else is currently known. After a misunderstanding with her groom, Miorine affirmed that she no longer wishes to run away and instead wants to marry Suletta, but the two were then separated during the Plant Quetta incident. Miorine encountered her father, Delling, who mentioned Miorine’s mother, Nortette, and hinted that there was more to her death than Miorine had known, but was then critically wounded trying to protect Miorine. After Dawn of Fold’s retreat, Miorine and Delling encountered one of the mercenaries, who was killed by Suletta with brutal force, which horrified Miorine. Two weeks after this, Delling remains in critical condition at a Benerit hospital with Miorine by his side.
*Suletta’s previous doubt and anxiety about her relationship with her bride, Miorine, was resolved just before the attack on Plant Quetta. When the two were separated, Suletta sought out Aerial to fight back, and encountered several mercenaries, who were then killed by her mother. Prospera demonstrated an unusual level of influence over her daughter, and persuaded Suletta that killing was okay to protect the people you love. Suletta then drove off Dawn of Fold, and saved the lives of both Miorine and Delling, but acted very out of character in the process. Two weeks later, she is waiting for Miorine to return and will likely be dealing with the dueling challenges issued while Aerial was being repaired. The issue of Suletta being Prospera’s daughter and looking like a grown up version of Ericht, but only being 17 years old while the attack on Vanadis seems to have taken place 21 years ago has not been addressed (yet).
And that’s a summary of The Witch from Mercury, as of April 8th, 2023; what tomorrow holds, we shall see : )

Looking at Siemens there in the boycott box: I wonder if the boycotters are serious enough to give up electricity because the power grid contains energy produced by companies which use Siemens equipment or software or financial services? I wonder if the boycotters are serious enough to boycott health care since Siemens and subsidiaries manufacture diagnostic imaging equipment and provide other health care services?
I wonder if the boycotters are serious enough to boycott green energy since Siemens supplies products and services to support green energy?
I wonder if the boycotters are serious enough to stop using digital technology since Siemens provides products and services to support digital technology?
I wonder if the boycotters are serious enough to boycott people and products which were moved by rail since Siemens provides goods and services, and locomotives, for rail transportation? Seriously, how does one actually boycott such a provider without boycotting all those who use what the provider offers? Since such a provider supplies such a high volume of things that consumers do not directly interact with, does a consumer boycott actually do anything? Though in the divest instead of boycott box, CAT and Hyundai, what would a 'complete boycott' of them look like? Do you boycott going in buildings and driving on roads which were built using Hyundai construction equipment? Do you boycott products which were hauled on trains whose locomotives used CAT diesel engines or in semis which used their diesels? Do you boycott imported products which were hauled to their port of export in a container on a semi-trailer pulled by a Hyundai truck? Do you boycott products whose raw materials were mined or harvested with CAT or Hyundai machinery? Do you boycott products which were transported in a shipping container tracked by Hyundai tracking? Do you boycott products which were imported via being carried on a container or a bulk carrier ship built by Hyundai?
With such companies being so prolific within various industries outside of the consumer realm, does a consumer boycott of their several direct to consumer products have any real meaning?
Tumblr media
Back to our regularly scheduled "what should we be boycotting" posting - a couple of hours ago (today, Wednesday 8th November) the BDS movement has put together a definitive explainer on which companies it is currently targeting, splitting companies into four categories and explaining why each company is being targeted and also what each category means for consumers, institutions, etc.
PLEASE NOTE: The BDS movement is the official, strategic, coordinated boycott, divestment, and sanctions campaign created by the BDS National Committee of Palestine. If you want to take part in boycotts and other forms of pressure against corporations in your efforts to help free Palestine, use this organisation's advice as your official and primary source. Other common boycott campaigns such as the "Big Three" (McDonalds, Disney, Starbucks) are at best incomplete and at worst actively contradictory representations of this targeted boycott campaign that we should all be aiming to follow for maximum efficacy and impact.
I have bolded where "big three" companies appear in this new release in order to clarify what action the BDS recommends for each.
click this link to read the explainer.
If, for whatever reason, you can't or don't want to click the link, here's a quick summary:
CONSUMER TARGETS: the BDS movement calls for a complete boycott of the following brands
Ahava
AXA
Carrefour
HP
Puma
RE/MAX
Siemens
SodaStream
Israeli produce in your supermarkets (avoid buying said produce and, if you find any in your local store, contact the supermarket to demand its removal from shelves)
DIVESTMENT TARGETS: governments, institutions, and investment funds should exclude and divest from as many complicit companies as is practical
Elbit Systems
HD Hyundai / Volvo / CAT / JCB
Barclays
CAF
Chevron
HikVision
TKH Security
PRESSURE (NON-BOYCOTT) TARGETS: for strategic reasons the BDS movement does not call for a complete boycott of these brands & services. they should be subjected to other forms of pressure until they end their complicity in Israeli apartheid
Google
Amazon
Airbnb / Booking.com / Expedia
Disney
GRASSROOTS ORGANIC BOYCOTT TARGETS: other boycotts not organised by BDS. If these campaigns are not already organically active in your area, focus your energies on the strategic campaigns above.
McDonalds
Burger King
Papa John's
Pizza Hut
Wix
(and others, e.g. Dominos was mentioned in a past release and can be seen in the new infographic but not the explainer article)
Starbucks continues to not be officially mentioned by the BDS Movement. The boycott of Starbucks primarily stems from its decision to sue its union for using the company's name and branding in pro-Palestine posts. As another grassroots organic boycott campaign, albeit not one openly acknowledged thus far by the BDS Movement itself, my personal recommendation would be to treat it like other campaigns in that category - i.e. continue boycotting & encouraging others to do so if there is already an organically active campaign in your area, but please keep the official BDS boycott list as your main focus.

Alloy Steel Chains in Construction: Applications for Heavy-Duty Use
Tumblr media
In the world of construction, where strength, reliability, and durability are paramount, alloy steel chains play a vital role. These chains are indispensable tools that enable the lifting, securing, and transportation of heavy loads with precision and safety. As construction projects become more ambitious, demanding larger equipment and greater efficiency, the importance of using high-performance materials like alloy steel chains becomes even more pronounced.
Understanding Alloy Steel Chains
Alloy steel chains are manufactured from high-grade steel that is heat-treated and alloyed with elements such as chromium, molybdenum, and nickel. These elements enhance the chain’s strength, toughness, and resistance to wear and tear. Compared to ordinary steel chains, alloy steel chains exhibit superior mechanical properties, making them ideal for heavy-duty applications in construction.
Key properties of alloy steel chains include:
High Tensile Strength: The ability to withstand heavy loads without deformation or failure.
Resistance to Corrosion: Essential for construction sites exposed to moisture, chemicals, or extreme weather conditions.
Durability: Enhanced wear resistance ensures a longer service life even in demanding environments.
Flexibility: Allows for smooth operation and adaptability to various load configurations.
Applications in Construction
Alloy steel chains are integral to numerous construction activities. Here are some of the most common applications:
1. Lifting and Hoisting Operations
In construction, lifting and hoisting are routine tasks. Cranes, hoists, and other lifting equipment often rely on alloy steel chains to handle massive loads, such as steel beams, concrete blocks, and machinery. These chains are designed to bear extreme tension without snapping, making them a trusted choice for:
Tower Crane Operations: Transporting materials to elevated construction levels.
Mobile Cranes: Handling diverse loads in tight or temporary spaces.
Overhead Hoists: Precision lifting in controlled environments, such as assembling steel frameworks.
2. Load Securing and Tie-Downs
Alloy steel chains are also used for securing loads during transportation. Construction materials often need to be moved from suppliers to job sites, and proper load securement is crucial to prevent accidents or damage. Chains with high tensile strength provide reliable anchoring for:
Flatbed Trailers: Securing heavy machinery or prefabricated components.
Transporting Bulk Materials: Preventing shifts during long hauls.
Container Securing: Ensuring stability during intermodal transport.
3. Rigging Applications
Rigging involves assembling equipment to lift and move objects safely. Alloy steel chains are an essential component in rigging systems due to their strength and reliability. Construction projects frequently employ rigging for:
Erecting Structural Steel: Positioning steel beams and girders.
Installing Precast Concrete: Hoisting and positioning concrete panels or blocks.
Bridge Construction: Supporting and moving heavy segments during assembly.
4. Demolition and Debris Removal
The construction process is not limited to building; it often involves demolition and debris removal. Alloy steel chains are used in heavy-duty equipment like wrecking balls and grapple machines to break down structures and clear rubble. Their ability to withstand extreme forces ensures that they remain functional in such harsh conditions.
5. Anchoring and Stabilization
Temporary structures, scaffolding, and heavy equipment require secure anchoring to maintain stability. Alloy steel chains are employed to anchor large construction machinery, stabilize cranes, or reinforce temporary supports. This use is particularly critical in high-wind or unstable soil conditions.
Advantages of Alloy Steel Chains in Construction
The preference for alloy steel chains in construction stems from their numerous advantages:
Safety and Reliability Safety is a top priority on construction sites. Alloy steel chains are engineered to meet rigorous safety standards, offering peace of mind during critical operations. Their high breaking strength minimizes the risk of catastrophic failure.
Load Capacity Alloy steel chains have a high working load limit (WLL), enabling them to handle exceptionally heavy loads. This capacity is essential for construction projects that involve large-scale materials and equipment.
Resistance to Environmental Factors Construction sites are often exposed to harsh environments. Alloy steel chains’ resistance to corrosion, heat, and abrasion ensures consistent performance, even in challenging conditions.
Versatility These chains are compatible with various attachments, such as hooks, shackles, and slings, allowing them to adapt to multiple tasks and configurations.
Cost-Effectiveness While alloy steel chains may have a higher upfront cost compared to standard chains, their durability and low maintenance requirements make them a cost-effective choice in the long run.
Selecting the Right Alloy Steel Chain
Choosing the appropriate alloy steel chain for a specific application is crucial to ensuring safety and efficiency. Key factors to consider include:
Grade and Strength Alloy steel chains are classified by grade, with higher grades indicating greater strength. Common grades include:
Grade 80: Suitable for lifting and rigging applications.
Grade 100: Offers 25% higher strength than Grade 80, ideal for demanding tasks.
Grade 120: The strongest option, used for the heaviest loads.
Chain Size The diameter of the chain links determines their load capacity. Larger links can handle heavier loads but may be less flexible.
Coating and Finish To enhance resistance to corrosion, chains are often coated with protective finishes such as zinc plating or powder coating.
Compatibility with Equipment Ensure the chain is compatible with the lifting or securing equipment being used, including hooks, slings, and tie-down devices.
Compliance with Standards Always select chains that meet industry standards, such as those set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) or the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
Maintenance and Inspection
Proper maintenance and regular inspection are essential to maximize the lifespan and safety of alloy steel chains. Best practices include:
Routine Inspections Check for signs of wear, corrosion, cracks, or deformation. Replace chains that show significant damage or fail to meet safety criteria.
Cleaning Remove dirt, grease, and debris that can cause premature wear. Use appropriate cleaning agents that do not degrade the chain material.
Lubrication Apply suitable lubricants to minimize friction and prevent rust.
Storage Store chains in a dry, clean environment to protect them from moisture and contaminants.
Training Ensure that all personnel handling alloy steel chains are properly trained in their use and maintenance.
Alloy steel chains are indispensable in the construction industry, providing unmatched strength, reliability, and versatility for heavy-duty applications. From lifting and securing loads to stabilizing structures and enabling demolition, these chains play a crucial role in ensuring the success and safety of construction projects. By selecting the right chain, adhering to maintenance best practices, and staying informed about industry advancements, construction professionals can harness the full potential of alloy steel chains to meet the demands of modern construction.

🌍 Navigating Full Container Loads (FCL) & Full Truckloads (FTL) in Freight Management
Dealing with Full Container Loads (FCL) and Full Truckloads (FTL) often proves to be a more cost-effective and efficient choice compared to partial loads, especially when considering price per unit or cubic meter.
Plus, FCL and FTL shipments simplify the logistics process by reducing the number of intermediaries involved.
In these cases, shippers—like manufacturers and retailers—take on the responsibility of filling shipping containers or trailers themselves, handing them over to the carriers for delivery to the destination. 🚚 💼
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🔍 Overcoming Challenges in FCL/FTL Shipments
However, the real challenge arises when such shipments comprise multiple items.
Shippers and carriers moving varied freight or handling different types of packaging must find an optimal way to stack their cargo within the shipping equipment to ensure safety and efficiency.
Let’s explore a hypothetical example to illustrate this process in action.
🛒 A Case Study:
An Online Technical Devices Store
Imagine you own an online store in Chicago that specializes in technical devices and equipment.
You've placed a substantial order from a supplier in China—enough to fill a standard 20-foot shipping container.
Here’s how the process unfolds:
*️⃣ Packing with Precision
Your supplier in China utilizes a load planner to pack all your items into the container, ensuring that every item fits securely.
The load planner takes into account all stability and stackability constraints, assuring that nothing gets damaged during shipping. 📦 🔒
*️⃣ Setting Sail
Once packed, the container is handed over to the shipping company.
They also employ a load planner to optimize the loading of multiple containers onto the vessel, considering factors like balance constraints, weight distribution, and dimensions to ensure a smooth voyage. ⚓ 📊
*️⃣ Arrival and Reloading
After arriving at a port (let’s say Newark or Baltimore), your shipment undergoes reloading and is placed on a railcar for the journey to Chicago.
This phase continues to focus on efficient stacking and distribution to prevent any mishaps. 🚢 ➡️ 🚆
*️⃣ Receiving and Allocating Inventory
Once your order arrives in Chicago, you allocate it to your warehouse, ready for processing.
The very next day, you receive a large order from a client in Cincinnati, prompting you to activate the next stage of your logistics strategy.
📦 Efficient Distribution to Customers
To fulfill your Cincinnati client's order, you need to find a carrier with a dry van.
Again, load planning plays a critical role:
Using the Load Planner
You utilize the load planner to efficiently load the boxes of ordered items into the trailer. This time, you must account for important considerations such as balance, fragility, stackability, and any potential constraints to ensure safe transport. 📦 🛡️
💡 Conclusion
Navigating FCL and FTL shipments comes with its own set of challenges, particularly when dealing with diverse items.
However, by leveraging load planning tools and techniques, shippers can optimize cargo configurations, ensuring safe and efficient transport.
Whether you’re optimizing routes for cost savings or enhancing customer satisfaction through timely deliveries, effective load planning is essential in the logistics landscape.
Embrace the future of freight management with smart, efficient practices that drive success! 🚚 💡
