What happens when the love of your life loses the one that he loved?
The one he built a home with.
The one he had a child with.
What do you do when the love of your life loses the love of his life?
It wasnât something she had planned. To fall in love with him. It was slow. Gradual. Like the morning sun rising on a summerâs day. There was a time when she was oblivious to it all. The way heâd smile. How his face lit up when he saw her. How his body relaxed when she entered his space. She was oblivious to it all until she wasnât. Sometimes she wishes she still was because it didnât matter how many times she told herself this was wrong; it felt right.
It wasnât intentional. She didnât plan it. Mostly, she would call it a coincidence. How she would end up in the hospital with an injury or wound. How he would be the one to supervise her care. Sometimes she would be coming in for check ups and heâd just appear. Like he knew sheâd be there.
She knew too much already. Short snippets from his friends of how he lost Nic. How he was left a widow, single father and mourning lover all in one night. She never brought it up. Neither did he. Gigi was his constant now. His sun. The anchor that kept him standing. The person who pulled him home. She adored Gigi. A wonderful child with an intelligent mind far beyond her years.
âShe got that from Nicâ.
He told her that once when they were both sharing a coffee in the hospital cafe. She had come in to visit a friend who was going into surgery. He happened to be going on a break. It was natural. Smooth. Every time they met, it was like tieing a new knot to the invisibile string that kept pulling them closer together.
She had met all his friends. He had met some of hers. They became each othersâ friends and at times she found that they all ended up at the same places: the local bar in town, sometimes restuarants and even at parties for their fellow friends.
It was all a coincidence after all because the love of her life had lost the love of his life. She had no intention of stepping her foot into something that was not hers. A life that did not belong to her. A man that she adored and his daughter who came to adore her.
After all, what do you do when the love of your life loses the love of his life?
You love him from afar even if it breaks your very soul.

NERVOUS
NERVOUS, CONRAD HAWKINS X FEM!READER
APART OF THE HUMBLE QUEST SERIES
SUMMARY: after a secret relationship with a certain resident from atlanta, singer y/n l/n writes a song about all the way he makes her feel nervous.
inspired by nervous by maren morris
cw: implied smut & swearing
lowercase intentional! wordcount: 0.6k
a/n ive been watching the resident sm lately and forgot that they put gold love (i think, havent gotten there yet) is at the end of s2. also this is based off of the hq tour performance!! ps, thank u for sm love on hummingbird <333
âHOW IN THE HELL DID YOU GET FRONT ROW TICKETS TO Y/N L/N?â
devon turned to conrad as the group of doctors walked towards the front, with barricade right in front of them. with a small grin spread across his face, conrad shrugged, âknow somebody.â
âyouâve gotta know more than just âsomebodyâ.ânic told him as they waited for the show to start before mina spoke up, âthese seats went for $500 resale.â
the three turned to the surgeon, all with a surprised look on their faces, causing mina to shrug, âi like her music too.â
it was about an hour or so before the show began after the opening act, and as soon as y/n came out, her eyes locked with conrads, causing a big smile to spread across her lips. every single time she was in the middle of the stage, her eyes never left his, making damn sure of it too.
about halfway through the setlist, she heard the band start up the slow intro to the next song, and sent conrad a wink, before walking back up to the microphone, keeping contact, âyou make me nervous,â
âput my reservations out of service, making me feel like every secrets worth it, its working.âshe sang, and saw a small smirk fall back onto conrad's lips, knowing exactly what this song was about, âtryina hide my desire below the service.â
the two kept eye contact for a few moments, before y/n broke it, and looked over at her bandmate, âyou make me wonder, how this part of me went undiscovered.â
âtaking my heart out of its zone of comfort, like summer,ây/n continued, looking back over at conrad and his friends, âby the time its gone, you want another.â
taking the microphone off of the stand, y/n walked towards the front of the stage, right in front of conrad, pointing at him subtly, âyou make me out of control, out of our clothes,â
âmotion in slow, yeah,âshe continued as conrad watched her walk around the stage, putting on one of the best performances he had seen, âyou take me, you take me in my feelings,â
âthrough the ceiling, leaving my inhibitions exposed,ây/n walked back over to the mic stand hooking it back up, âyou make me nervous.â
âevery little move you make, you make on purpose.âshe pointed at him again, before raising her arm, âtracing my body like youâre learning cursive, researching.â
âjust how high of a touch can take a person.â
y/n jumped right back into the chorus, before dancing around the stage, and finishing up the bridge. slowly making her way off the stage, the star made her way over to conrad, with a big grin on her face.
âyou make me nervous.â
âput my reservations out of service,ây/n sang, seeing all the shocked faces around her, joining in with the screams, âtryina hide my desire below the surface,â
standing on the barricade, conrad gripped her sides, keeping her steady as she towered over him, both with big grins spread across their faces, knowing she had just revealed their little secret.
âyou make me nervous.â

On Friendship (Conrad/Nic, Nic & Billie, Billie & Conrad)
Summary: Conrad and Nic walk to dinner and have a conversation about Billie, much to Conrad's annoyance. (Canon-friendly & set before Gigi's birth and very early in Billie's return.)
A/N: I set this one from Conrad's perspective, so that was different to write. I'm not sure I'm going to do that again-it was very hard. But let me know if you like it, and maybe I'll give it another go.
I guess this one isn't really set in the Lost Years, but it sort of feels like it in my head. Working on more Conrad/Billie centric pieces!
I cried during the finale. I still haven't recovered. I must have a season 7. I MUST. Please. I beg.
On Friendship
âI invited Billie,â Nic said as they strolled down the sidewalk, arm in arm.
Conrad waited for the flare of dread and loathing in his chest that usually followed the sound of Nicâs best friendâs name. But it remained mostly quiet, the steady thuthump thuthump thuthump of his heartbeat accompanied only by a slight twinge of irritation.
Huh, he thought. But he was trying to keep Nic calm and stay on her good side, so he just shrugged a shoulder and said, âOkay.â
Nic gave him a stern look, and Conrad made a who me? gesture. Secure in the knowledge that she found him adorable, he watched his wife battle against amusement at his cheekiness. In the end, though, Nic won the war, and the stern expression remained.
âWhat is it?â he asked, resigned to a lecture.Â
âNo comments,â Nic said.
âNo comments about what?â
âAnything,â Nic stressed. âWork, Syria, the past, the future. Nothing.â
âThe past and the future are off limits? Whatâs left to talk about?â Conrad asked, but he kept his tone teasing.
âI have faith in you, Mr. Gabby.â
âThatâs a terrible nickname,â he said.
âYou have the gift of gab,â Nic told him. âEmbrace it.â
âUh-huh.âÂ
Without thinking about it, he reached over and caressed her pregnant belly. Nic made a humming sigh of contentment in the back of her throat. A slow smile spread across his face.
If anyone had pulled him aside ten years before and told him he would have a beautiful wife, with a baby on the way and zero desire to run for the hills, he would have laughed himself silly.Â
And, yet, there he was with a crackerjack, whip smart blonde in a little red dress on his arm. And their baby was in her belly, and they were strolling towards dinner at their favorite bistroâbecause they had a favorite bistroâin their own neighborhood, just a few blocks from their house. And chickens. So many chickens.
Conrad loved his life.
âAnd thereâs one other thing,â Nic said.
âThis should be good,â he murmured.
Conrad waited. But Nic didnât speak. Finally, after a few beats of tension, it dawned on him that whatever Nic was trying to tell him was seriousâeven more serious than their exchanges about Billie usually were. Slowing to a stop, he unthreaded Nicâs arm from the crook of his elbow and stepped in front of her. He brushed a lock of blonde hair out of her face and took in her expression.Â
She looked hesitant, and that wiped the smirk right off his face. Nic knew she could tell him anything.Â
âNic, what is it?â he asked.
âShe doesnât like compliments,â Nic said.Â
The words came at him in the serious voice Nic employed to tell him that a patientâs labs were dire or their sats were dropping. Conrad would be the first to tell anyone he was an idiot, so he should have known not to focus on the words themselves but listen to the way sheâd said them. And, still, he didnât. He only heard the literal meaning, and an incredulous expression slid onto his face.
âI beg to differ,â he said, almost laughing at the absurdity. âBillie Suttonâs ego would shock Liberace.â
âSheâs not that person anymore,â Nic said. She wrapped her hands around the open front of his leather jacket to pull him closer. âAnd she was never as bad as you made her out to be.â
He let out a loud, humorless laugh, and Nic dropped his jacket entirely, lips thinning. He braced himself for all the things he had heard from her over the past three years any time the topic of Billie had come up in conversationâa topic that had turned any conversation into a fight about eighty percent of the time in the months following the whole, awful mess with Conradâs patient.
âYou know I understand why you turned her in,â Nic had said, shoving her sweater in her bag.
Conrad had thrown his arms wide. âThen why are you mad at me? I had no choice.â
She had been rushing around his apartment, gathering up her belongings. He had been panicked at first, thinking something was truly wrong, but then she had explained that Billie had accepted a surgery position with Patients in Health. Only the recruiter had told Billie that she had needed to be on a plane that same day, and Nic would have to meet her at the airport to say goodbye.
âThereâs always a choice, Conrad,â Nic had said. âAnd there was a hell of a lot more nuance involved than you were willing to admit.â
âWhat nuance? She wasnât supposed to cut, and she did. It seems pretty black and white to me.â
âOh, yes,â Nic had snapped, startling him. âBecause your decisions are always so black and white. You fucking live in the gray area, Conrad.â
Conrad had told himself to take a deep breath. He had known when they started dating how close Nic and Billie were. He hadnât liked it, it hadnât been convenient, but he had known.
âMy patient will never walk again, never talk again. He was young, Nic. He had his life ahead of him,â Conrad had said.
âI know. And itâs awful. And Iâm so sorry for him and his family,â Nic had said. She had stopped rushing around the apartment. âI have to go. Billieâs flight is in three hours. If I donât leave now, Iâm going to miss her.â
âFine,â he had said.
Nic had given him a look that held so much disillusioned disappointment that it had felt like someone stabbed him in the chest. And, then, Nicolette Nevinâthe most even-keeled person he had ever metâslammed his front door on the way out. Yet another thing that had been Billieâs fault.
As Nic watched him brace for an attack, she morphed into sharp edges before his eyes. But all she said was, âYou promised you would try.â
Yeah, I did that, he thought, regretting it for the ten thousandth time.
Conrad drew a breath in through his nose. âI did. And I am.â
Nic continued to watch him. Her eyes were sad and irritated and fierce and determined. Conrad shoved aside the irritation that was sharpening itself against his gut like a lode stone.Â
âI am,â he said, trying to convey a sincerity he didnât really feel.
But Nic, of course, saw right through that. âConrad,â Nic said, sighing and looking away into the night.
They had reached the small business district of their quiet neighborhood. Strings of lights zigzagged through the air over the street. A few couples were walking hand-in-hand, and the smattering of restaurants had set their sidewalk tables out for the night. Laughter floated through the air.
âAronson was a lazy hack with rusty skills. He hid behind his residents,â Billie had said.Â
And didnât that ring true? Nicâs voiceâthe voice of his conscienceâpointed out in his brain. You hate Aronson.
Conrad shoved the thought away. He didnât want Billie and her issues taking up any of his brain space if he could help it. He placed soft hands on Nicâs shoulders, cupping around the tension. Nic deserved more from him.
âI am trying,â he said again, trying to convey his sincerity.
She drew in her own deep, calming breath, but her face still troubled. âOkay.â
âNow. Explain,â he murmured. âWhy doesnât Billie like compliments? And why are you warning me about this?â
âShe does. Sheâs a human being. Everyone likes compliments. ButâŚâ She stopped and folded her arms over her chest, muttering, âI feel like Iâm betraying a confidence.â
Curiosity piqued, Conrad studied her face. âAre you?â
âNo,â Nic said, with a rush of breath. âSheâs never said⌠Sheâs never explained it to me. Itâs just a spidey sense. A best friend thing.â
âIf you map it out, then I can avoid stepping on a landmine,â Conrad said, dropping his hands.
âShe likes compliments about her brain, about her work. Because she is actually quite brilliant, and she knows that,â Nic said. Then she gave him another stern look. âWhich is a good thing. More women should be confident in their abilities. And, yet, when they are, society treats them likeâIâm rambling.â
Conrad waited, quiet.Â
Nic rubbed her fingers across her forehead. âShe doesnât like compliments about how she looks.â
Conradâs eyes narrowed to a squint. âCome again?â
âShe doesnât like anyone to mention how she looks,â Nic said, arms still tight across the top of her pregnant belly.
âBillie Sutton,â Conrad said, drawing the words out slowly to highlight how little this made sense. âDoesnât like being told sheâs pretty?â
âThatâs right,â Nic said, calm.
âI find that hard to believe,â he said. He made the words teasing, throwing on a disbelieving half-smile for good measure.
âWell, believe it,â Nic said, not at all charmed. âAnd this is a nice place. So, sheâs going to dress to match. Billie is very careful about that sort of this.â
âWhat sort of thing?â Conrad asked, confused.
âEtiquette,â Nic said, sounding annoyed with him. âDress codes.â
âEtiquette? She tried to make Devon park her car,â Conrad pointed out.
âDevon tried to steal a parking space she was already pulling into when she was in a hurry to get to my hospital room,â Nic countered. âYouâre telling me you wouldnât have stonewalled some stranger trying to pull rank in a parking lot over an unassigned space?â
Conradâs brows slammed together. He really wanted to argue with that. But she would see right through him if he tried.
âFor the record,â Nic added, because Nic was always fair. âBillie wasnât right, and she knows that. She felt bad about it later.âÂ
âOh, did she?â Conrad murmured. He doubted that.
Nic wrinkled her nose. âKind of. She felt worse about the impound fee than Devon. She might have said that she would make it a goal to annoy him until his hair vibrated.â
Conrad choked and swallowed down the inappropriate laughter that wanted to escape. âWow,â was all he said.Â
âWeâre still working on the anger management.â Nic cleared her throat. âI know Billie. And sheâs going to wear a dress to dinner because thatâs what would be expected.âÂ
Conrad paused. As he stopped to think about it, he realized that he had rarely seen Billie out of scrubs, and, when he had, it was long sleeved shirts and sweaters and pants. If Billie Sutton owned a sundress, she had never worn one around him.
âSo, no comments,â Nic said. âJust pretend sheâs in jeans and a sweatshirt. Got it?â
âI have seen Billie dressed up before,â he pointed out.
Turning, he slid her arm back through the crook of his elbow. He was encouraged when she settled her fingers on his forearm and leaned into his side.
âOh yeah?â she asked, wry. âWhen?â
âThe first-year residentâs reception,â he said, triumphant.
Nic snorted, unimpressed. âSeven years ago? And you donât think thatâs a little weird?â
âDo you?â he asked, pointed.
âI donât know. A little, I guess.â
âOkay,â he murmured. âWhy?â
âBillie blossomed young.â
âBlossomed?â he echoed on a laugh.
âFine. She got boobs,â Nic snapped at him, but she didnât sound irritated. âAnd she was so pretty and friendly and suddenly she looked like a teenager. But we were only eleven? Maybe twelve. Mom was still alive.â
Conrad squeezed her arm.
âAnyway,â Nic said on a sigh. âBoys started hitting on her, and she was still just a kid. And she wasnât even all that interested in boys. She liked to read, and she had this chemistry set that her dad gave her that we were obsessed with.â
Conrad felt a warm rush of love picturing a miniature Nic in safety goggles. âYou must have been so adorable with your tiny microscope and beakers.â
She hummed in acknowledgement, but she was distracted. âI remember it made Billie uncomfortable, but the other girls were already getting boy crazy, and they were all so jealous. She got bullied a little.â
âOuch,â Conrad muttered, uncomfortable with the pang of sympathy he felt.
He couldnât really relate, but he knew how teenage boys were, and he wanted them nowhere near his daughter. He had already started coming up with elaborate plans to keep boys away from her forever. A moat around the house had seemed like a good idea in the wee hours a few days prior.
âWe stopped going to the pool. She started wearing these bulky sweatshirts.â Nic sounded thoughtful, like she had never really considered all of this so deeply.Â
âShe had you,â Conrad reminded her.
Nicâs smile twisted. âUntil her family moved away. Anyway, the next time I saw her, we were eighteen, and she was already a lot like she is now. Or was. Before she left.â
Nic stayed quiet, and he could almost feel her brain turning. They were only a block or so from the bistro, and he nudged her gently with his elbow.
âYou know, you never told me how you got back in touch,â he said, knowing she would bite at the chance to tell a sanctionedânay, requestedâBillie story.
âI havenât?â she asked, surprised.Â
Conrad shook his head, throwing her a little smile. Talking through all of it had seemed to help Nic relax. She had even stopped rubbing her belly every few minutes as if she were checking to see it was still there.
âI found her on one of those social media sites freshman year of colleges,â Nic said, voice perking up a bit at the happier story. âI was thinking about her one day⌠Missing her, really. Facebook had just come out, so, I searched her name, and I didnât really think I would find her. But there she was at a school only a couple of hours away. It felt like fate, so I sent her a message.â
âAnd that was that? You were just back to best friends like no time had passed?â he asked, mostly teasing.Â
But the question was always there for him. Because he couldnât understand the bond Nic and Billie had. He couldnât reconcile the Billie from Nicâs stories, the love and affection in Nicâs voice, with the arrogant, smirking, superior, and razor-sharp Dr. Sutton who had hated him moments after meeting him.
âShe answered within three minutes.â Nic sounded smug. âSaid sheâd missed me, too, and asked if I up for a field trip that weekend. So, I drove out to see her, and the rest is history.âÂ
Conrad kept the comments rolling around the back of his mouth to himself. He hadnât seen her so easy and carefree in months. He liked it. He liked the color in her cheeks and the soft smile playing with her lips.
And he knew that Billie was a big part of it, which stuck in his craw but was getting easier to swallow each day Billie stayed in Atlanta. The week prior, he had heard them laughing through the floor, shushing each other more loudly than the laughter, in an effort not to wake him after a night shift. He hadnât heard Nic laugh like that in⌠He wasnât sure how long.
He would never admit it to anyone, but the sound had made him grin.
âI just want her to be home,â Nic said. âI know thatâs selfish.
âSheâs your best friend,â Conrad said, hoping he didnât sound as grudging as he felt saying it. âOf course, you do.â
Nic squeezed his arm. âThank you for understanding. I know this isnât easy for you.â
âEh,â he said, uncomfortable with her gratitude given how much he still resented Billieâs presence in their life.
He didnât like having her back. Everyone knew that. But he also found her confusing as hell, and all the times Nic had insisted that Billie wasnât the same Billie Sutton who had left Chastain in disgrace were starting to lodge themselves in his brain. He had started to wonder if Nic wasnât right.
âYes, I understand what I did. And I will never get over it,â Billie had said.Â
He had been able to see she was holding back tears by sheer will alone. He had heard it in her voice, seen it in her face. And, yet, she had still been looking him dead in the eye because she was Billie Damn Sutton and absolutely nothing scared her.
When Conrad had started as an intern at Chastain, he had been older than the others thanks to his time in the Marines. And the others had all seemed like children compared to his war-worn brothers in arms. It had been hard to take any of the interns seriously. Lives were in their hands, and all they had been able to gossip about was which attendings had been sleeping together.
But Billie. One look at the surgical intern cohort, and his eyes had locked in on Billie without hesitation. He had disliked her on sight. She had held herself apart from the other internsâeverything about her had screamed  Iâm not here to make friends.Â
Conrad had known with one look that she had zero life experience to back up the confident tilt of her chin, the superior look she had settled on her peers. She had been a day one intern. She had never even cut on a living person before stepping into Chastain. She had never earned the right to call herself a surgeon, to volunteer for thirteen-hour surgeries, and tell everyone she was neuro as if her success had been a foregone conclusion and everyone else had simply been a beat behind.Â
But Conrad had seen that glint of fearlessness in new recruitsâ eyes too many times not to know that Billie was going to fuck up if she didnât get that ego in check. His biggest fear had been that someone else was going to pay the price for her arrogance.Â
And over the ensuing years, she had proven herself to be talented. Even Conrad had to admit that. She had scared the hell out of the other interns on her rotationsâalways with the right answer, always the attendingsâ favorite, always Billie Damn Sutton and you had better know her name.
It had taken five years to prove Conrad right. So long that even Conrad had started to question his instincts, to ask if she had merely been unpleasant and brilliant enough as a surgeon to be tolerable. And then Billie had screwed up in an irreversible, horrible way. And someone else had paid for that arrogance. Someone Conrad had cared about.Â
God he had loathed her. And he had taken satisfaction in punishing her. Even if it had punished Nic in the process.
But then, eight years later, Billie Damn Sutton had sat down across from him and admitted he had been right to take away the one thing she cared about. But with her chin held high, of course, which had just made him raise an eyebrow, even as he had studied her with new eyes.Â
And then a half-second later, she had let the wall of pride crumble away and added, âMan. That was really freaking hard.â Which had made him want to laugh.
Conrad swallowed a groan. He didnât want to like Billie Damn Sutton.Â
And I donât, he reassured himself.
But, seriously, what neurosurgeon (let alone a fifth-year resident) was able to pivot to pediatric trauma surgery under the pressure of a war zone? He knew that in times of war, especially in crisis response organizations like Partners in Health, everyone pitched in doing wherever was needed. But he had made some calls and asked friends to do some digging. She was respected. Very respected. She was good. Maybe even great.
In the end, what Conrad had learned was that Billie could pursue trauma surgery as a career if she wanted. And that would have been an easier sell than neuro, showing hospitals she had learned her lessons, lowered her expectations, and would avoid treading on familiar ground. She probably could have found a surgical residency in trauma without much effort, really, especially with three years of Partners in Health horror on her resume.
And, yet, Nic had told him the Billie was still actively trying to find a neuro surgical residency. Begging where she thought it might help. Because Billie Sutton never took the easy out, apparently.
âShe seems better,â Nic said, pulling him out of his thoughts. She sounded pensive. âDonât you think?â
He opened his mouth to respond, but she waved a hand in front of them. âOh, you wouldnât know,â she said, and then slapped her hand over her mouth. âIâm sorry.â
But he just laughed because he loved when Nic got awkward. It was so rare and such a treat to see her blush. Even when she was mean, it was only an accident, and she was generally right to boot.
Nic hurried to explain. âI just mean, you donât know Billie well. And you never talked to her while she was in Syria. Sheâs been so different. This last year, sheâs barely even made time for video calls. We used to have them weekly when she could get wifi.â
Nic licked her lips, and Conrad wondered if she realized how tightly she was squeezing his arm. âShe seemed edgy when she first got back to Atlanta. But these last few days have beenâŚnice. Sheâs seemed like her old self almost. Well, the old self I knew, anyway.â Then she glanced up at him and bit her lip. âSorry. Iâm going on and on about Billie.â
He didnât respond with words. Standing in the light of the bistroâs windows, Conrad pulled her to a stop and leaned in to kiss her gently. Instead of pulling away, he moved his lips to her forehead, wrapping his arms around her body, belly nestled between them.
And he knew she heard him saying, Itâs okay. I love you.
âI think if you gave her a chance,â Nic said, quietly, âthen you and Billie could be friends. Good friends.â
âI think thatâs unlikely,â Conrad said, but he smiled to soften the blow.
âSheâs not perfect. But she knows sheâs not perfect, and sheâs always trying to be better. To do better,â Nic said. âThat counts for something, Conrad.â
âIt does,â he agreed. Reluctantly, he added, âAnd Iâve noticed that. Iâm just notâŚsure.â
âI want her to have friends,â Nic said. âShe doesnât make them easily. And youâre the very best friend a person could ask for. I want her to have you.â
Awed by his wife, Conrad pressed another kiss to her forehead. âYou have the biggest heart of anyone I have ever met,â Conrad whispered against her skin. âAnd I love you for it.â
âI love you, too,â Nic said.
âGood,â he said. âIt would be really awkward if you just let me hang around because you couldnât get rid of me.â
âOh, for goodnessâs sake,â Nic muttered. âGo on. Get inside.â
He held the door open for her and followed her through. She spotted Billie almost immediately, and Nic walked to her best friend with arms wide open. Billieâs smile was blindingâwhite and wide and carefree as she met Nic halfway.
Then her eyes caught on Conrad over Nicâs shoulder, and the smile dimmed. Or maybe dim was the wrong word, he considered. Because nothing really changed with her face. Her smile was still wide. But a subtle shift had occurred, and she looked careful, watchful, less happy.
As Nic let go, Billieâs chin came up, and she gave Conrad that serene, stay-six-feet-away-at-all-times look with her eyes.
âConrad,â Billie said.
Nic had been right. Billie was wearing a dress. And she looked niceâBillie was probably incapable of looking anything but, even if she made an effortâbut Conrad said nothing except, âHey, Billie. You two hang here, and Iâll get us a table.â
âThank you, honey,â Nic called after him.
Billie gave him an arch look, but nodded a begrudging thank you. Then she turned back to Nic with that easy, happy smile, and put her hands on Nicâs belly, asking for an update.
Like hell Billie Sutton and I will ever be friends, Conrad thought on a sigh, loving that his wife was an idealist.

i mean I might end up liking conrad/billie but I personally can't see it right now tbh! they'll NEVER compare to conic imo! without seeing it yet I can't say for sure I won't like c/b but it won't be the way I love conic it can't be!! the chemistry between matt/emily was INSANE!! they were such a healthy couple and they had these little moments like handholding and the head leans that you don't see with many ships and I know it's going to devastate me when I get to 503 ugh the show won't be the same without emily/nic and conic I know that for a fact without seeing it!!

Unknown (pt 1)
Y/n: Really, Conrad? You asked, as he threw his energy drink on the man's car.
Conrad: Yes. He parked on a disabled parking, and he wasn't at all. So, this is what he gets.
Y/n: Well, if he's breaking the law...then I guess it's only fair. You replied, smiling at him.
After a while of running around, and treating patients a mother with a little girl came running in yelling and asking for help.
Since you are a 2nd year resident, you ran up to the mother and the daughter. You started listening to her breathing, it was slow and sounded steady. Suddenly, she started seizing. After you gave her a shot to stop the seizing, the girl was lying calm.
Y/n: Ma'am, does your daughter have a history of seizures?
Girls mom: N...no. Never.
Conrad: Mind telling me, what happened today?
Girls mom: She was...uh...she said she had a headache and she also had a fever. But I thought she was just getting a flu.
Conrad: Any other symptoms, that we should know about?
Girls mom: Yes...she...she said that she had a tummy ache too and uh...um...vomited twice.
Y/n: Your call Dr Hawkins. You said, looking over at him since he was assigned to your case.
Conrad: Run tests, MRI, X-ray, and Labs.
Nodding, you made notes of the tests that needed to be done, and got on it right away.
"Few hours later"
Y/n: CONRAD! you yelled, down the hallway, as you ran to him.
Slipping in the process, Conrad caught you in his arms preventing you from falling.
Conrad: Woah. Are you okay? He asked, as he pulled you up.
Y/n: Um...yeah. Thank you. You replied, as you swallowed. The...the test came in. Little Anita, has swelling on the brain as shown here on the MRI, X-ray shows that her chest is normal and her blood shows that she has a few divisionsies in her blood.
Conrad: Okay. I'll consult with the neurosurgeon, ask what he thinks we should do. In the mean time, I want you to give her some vitamin c, vitamin e and calcium. Also make sure she stays hydrated.
Y/n: Anything else?
Conrad: Let's just hear what Dr Cooper says before we do anything else.
Nodding, you turned around to leave, when you were stopped by Conrad speaking.
Conrad: Note, be careful on the floor, we wouldn't want you falling now would we?
Y/n: You'd be worth falling for. You said, which caused you and Conrad to laugh.
Conrad: That was a horrible pun.
Y/n: Sometimes, you just got to make one.
After a long shift, a little girl that was in the clear you could finally go home.
Once you got home you took a shower, washed your hair and once you were done you dried your hair and got dressed in your pj's.
There was a knock on the door which made you frown, then suddenly the door opened to reveal Conrad.
Y/n: Conrad? What are you doing here? You asked, as you grabbed the black silk robe next to you.
Conrad: This. He gave a simple answer as he kissed you.
Y/n: Conrad, what are we doing? You asked, as you placed your forehead on his, and your hands on his chest. What about Nic?
Conrad: Shh. Don't talk. He said, as he kissed you again.
Without hesitating, you kissed him back as he undid the robe making it fall open. With ease he brushed it off your shoulders, as his hands moved to your waist. Moving his hand up on your waist trying to remove your shirt, he asked you to jump and you did.
Wrapping your legs around his waist, and arms around his neck you giggled as he kissed your neck. Moving your hair to the other side, you you connected your lips as he laid you down gently.
Conrad removed his jacket, shirt and pants leaving him in his underwear.
Hovering over you Conrad, smiled as he kissed your nose and forehead before looking at your pj's.
Conrad: These are beautiful, fortunately I get to take this off. He said, causing you both to laugh.
He gently, pulled down the side of the strap kissing your shoulder then your collarbone. Conrad moved his hand to your leg, as he rubbed your leg.
He then kissed your neck, your hand moved to his hair, as you pulled his to your lips.
Y/n: No foreplay, Conrad.
Conrad: That eager I see. Alright then, no foreplay. He connected your lips as he moved to take off your clothes.
"Next morning"
Y/n: Morning. You said, shifting to your side as you looked at Conrad.
Conrad: Morning. He replied, laying on his stomach looking at you. You know, there's still some time before, we go to work.
Y/n: What are you getting at Conrad.
Conrad: You know what I mean. He smirked, as he attacked you with kisses.
After a while, Conrad fell beside you on his back and you both were breathing heavily as you both looked at the ceiling.
Conrad: That was fun.
Y/n: Yeah...fun. But...should that have happened? You asked, looking at him.
Conrad: What? Why are you asking that? He questioned, as he sat up.
Y/n: I...i don't know. You said, sitting up holding the covers to your chest. I just...im not sure what happened last night or this morning...i don't know the meaning behind it.
Conrad: I don't know either. All I know is I couldn't wait anymore to be with you. We can talk about this, work it out.
Y/n: How about dinner?
Conrad: Tonight, after shift?
Y/n: Takeout. It'll be better, since we'll both be tired.
Conrad: Deal. He said, as he kissed your cheek. Before I leave, you should know all 6 times were amazing. He Siad, making you blush crazy.
As Conrad, finished getting dressed you kept looking at him and smiling as he come by to give you another passion filled kiss before leaving.
It was official, you were involved in something with Conrad that you didn't even know how it will end up in the end of it all.
Question was, how would it end with everyone around at the hospital and anyone can find out.

The Resident will be greatly missed.
This was one of the few remaining network shows I kept up with. I'm biased, but it's honestly one of the best medical dramas out there.
When it first aired, I remember thinking, "Wow, this is different." Then I kept watching, and I just fell in love with all these characters and their stories. Episode after episode I got sucked into these very relatable stories and medical cases of the week. Till today, the episode that still gets me every time is S02ep20 (episode title: If Not Now, When?). That episode was personal for me. That was when the show became more to me.
That's what the show is about at the heart. It's relatable, it's current but still very high stakes. I always rooted for Conrad to diagnose his patients on time before it was too late, and it hurt when he couldn't. which I appreciated because as much as this is a fictional show where we want everything to have a happy ending, these characters are human and there is only so much one can do. Whether it was an undiagnosed patient for Conrad, or a bad surgical outcome for the ever brilliant Dr. Austin AKA the Raptor, we got to see the human in these characters.
We got to see these characters grow and enter into different life stages. We saw the good, the bad, and the ugly. I will never stop giving credit to the character development of Bell. I would never have thought that this character whom I loathed so much in the beginning became one of my most loved. And even after some main characters left, they still found a way to balance the show without disrespecting anyone.
I truly love the show, and even though I'm sad it's ended, I'm even more grateful it ended on a good note for all of the characters and not on a cliffhanger. I would have loved that the show got a final season as opposed to a cancelation, but the characters got closure in the end. At least I'm not in some limbo thinking about how these characters' stories should end.
Our main couples, Kit/Bell, Billie/Conrad, and Leela/Devon, all got their end game. And even though there was nothing explicitly said, you can actually picture what their future would be like, both in their personal lives and their professional lives.
Even though most of us saw this cancelation coming, it doesn't negate feelings of sadness or disappointment. Whatever the case, I'm glad that the show had a good run. With six seasons, they also got to their 100 episode mark. Not many shows nowadays can boast of that.
So cheers to The Resident â¤ď¸
