NEW VIDEO + RECORD OF THE WEEK: A spoken word piece, "Big Town Winding Down," is my impression from conversations, images, scenes, and stories of urban life--in particular, a dream I had in which George Gershwin's Concerto in F kept looping against a black & white "movie" of 1920s New York City. Rather than feel overwhelmed by metropolis, I harmonized with it and let it absorb me. The music bed is from Cafe Khufu live improv sessions in lower East Side Manhattan, with the lovely Frisell-ian guitar work of Richie Devletian and the spot-on dumbek-beatwork of my friend and colleague Felipe Torres. the thing is if you tried to do a concerto bracket for all instruments the violins would sweep anyway no matter what LOL. so much of it is a numbers game in this case. like i remember the music festival i played one summer with a concerto competition with separate sections for "violins" "young violins" "lower strings" "literally everybody else"...maybe someone could run a bracket like that, do separate prelim brackets for violins, pianos, lower strings, and wind/brass, and then put the winners from those individual brackets together in a final? no matter what i think it would be Hilarious to see the violin players of tumblr ripping each other to shreds over like. brahms vs tchaikovsky or whatever

I love the Brandenburgischen Konzerte, the Brandenburg Concertos. 😃😍🥰🎶

And not just because of Scully but yeah, also because of Scully. But they're just so good, this is just amazing, AMAZING music! 💚 I even lived in Brandenburg for a while, which is probably not a huge accomplishment since I'm German. ;) But Johann Sebastian Bach was actually Thomaskantor in my hometown. Which sounds so casual because we grow up with it and I've been to St. Thomas's Church so often (it was lovely last Christmas 🎄) but it actually is quite a wonderful thing. 😃😊

My favourite composer is and remains Georg Friedrich Händel, who ironically was born in our neighbouring town. 😄 His compositions are without rival though to me for sure! It was quite an epiphany when I finally actually discovered them as an adult when I understood what I was listening to. I should probably take my violin back up again, she's been resting in her case here with me. She's precious and wonderful. 💖🎻 Hah, music! 😩😀😊💜🎵

he’s maybe a little emotionally unstable and disconnected from reality but being blood bound for the last half century or so would do that to you. He’s in a toxic relationship with his husband/sire Jaime and loves to spoil their adopted nosferatu daughter Lydia ..

he romanticizes everything, his situation, Lydia’s situation, Jaime as a whole. Occasionally finding himself obsessed with the drama and tragedy of mortal lives to inspire his new work 🥰🥰 he’s just got a lot of feelings!!🥰🥰🥰
