THE LONG FALL DOWN TO THE BOTTOM OF THE WELL

UNAIRED PILOT: The beginning

A STUDY IN PINK: Repetition

Never before has ‘falling in love’ been more thoroughly investigated and studied ... but then, Sherlock Holmes never liked not knowing. Instead he prefers to solve the mystery.

TBC below the cut .....

The slightly differnt filming decisions in PILOT and ASIP - the unofficial, unaired and the official, first episode of the story - give the impression of two perfect mirrors of each other, in which left turns to right and vis versa. While in both rooftop scenes Sherlock can be seen high up on a building (body/above the body) - looking out and down for his ‘pink case’ - John stands, looking up, next to a parked car (body/motionless transport) in the first version and next to a phone (voice of the heart) in the second.

The first version is created as a compact scene. It plays without any dialogue at all - there’s just ... music. The audience is aware that John can see Sherlock on the rooftop while Sherlock doesn’t seem to notice John.

In the second version the same scene is split in two separate parts. Although John does look up as well and one can asume that it is Sherlock whom he sees on a rooftop, there is no visual proof of it. Only when both characters are back at 221b and Sherlock talks about his discovery of the pink case, the missing rooftop scene from the earlier scene, appears in a flashback. This time though John is the one who is absent.

This scene is linked to the first appearance of Sherlock’s brother Mycroft (the brain) who enters the stage by an anonymus phone call, directed at John. And why should the brain communicate with the voice of the heart? Maybe because ... ‘there is a heart somewhere inside me’? At least that’s what Mycroft says in TFP. In the PILOT Mycroft isn’t completely absent either. By e-mail he advises his brother: ‘When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains must be the truth.’ In this version though Mycroft’s appearance isn’t linked to the rooftop scene at Lauriston Gardens but to Sherlock’s and John’s first meeting in Bart’s lab.

Back to the official verson in which Mycroft doesn’t text but talk. The first phone starts ringing exactly at the very moment John looks up to the rooftop. When John finally answers the third call (under the sign of a modern ‘cockcrow’), the voice of the mysterious man on the phone gives informations about three single surveillance cameras, mounted onto buildings, all focussed at John (full observation of the mind), followed by one explicit demand:

"There is a security camera on the building to your left. Do you see it? ... Do you see the camera, Doctor Watson? ... Watch. There is another camera on the building opposite you. Do you see it? ... And finally, at the top of the building on your right. ... Get into the car, Doctor Watson.”

Viewing both ‘first statements’ (text and call) of Mycroft side by side - in relation to the scenes in which they happen (lab and rooftop) and at whom they are directed (Sherlock and John) - this almost gives the impression of some nice choreographic planning. In any case, both first episodes seem to complement each other perfectly. The introduction of the main characters in both first episodes is then followed by user manual (TBB) and chapter list (TGG) before the story finally takes its course from ASIB down to the bottom of the well in TFP. This well is located at Musgrave Hall, the ancestral home of the Holmes family, where there was always honey for tea ...

‘Get into the transport, John! ... Fasten your seatbelt! It’s gonna be a bumpy night ... My brain is terribly fast! ... When I have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains must be the truth ... the truth that lies at the bottom of the well ...’ :)))

THE BLIND BANKER

Premonition of the fall, followed by character switching and a fall down from stage to stage, from level to level, caused by a masked attacker who comes from the East, from the distant moonlight shores of the Yangtze River.

THE GREAT GAME

Five cold cases, pips and explosions, deep waters and a boy called Carl. Someone stole his shoes to catch Sherlock’s attention ... someone who is closely connected to the ‘hound’. And a bomb, wearing John’s jacket, is waiting, ready to explode ...

A SCANDAL IN BELGRAVIA

Distracted, hit and felled by a boomerang, brought back from the East. It falls into a Brook to be washed down a stream. The naked truth comes to light ... “We’re not a couple” - ”Yes you are” ... Officially ‘truth’ gets executed, inofficially ‘truth’ lives on undercover.

The water-repellent umbrella of the brain gives the impression of a dark circular spot on the ground. Already a premonition for the deep well’s dark opening?

THE HOUNDS OF BASKERVILLE

The entrance to hell is marked by the hound’s paw, illuminated by a circle of light, while the air is full of chemistry that rouses fear and terror.

Lab experiments: Sherlock wants to find out how John might react to the presence of the hound. He observes how the former army doctor breaks out in panic and fear, how he seeks shelter behind the iron bars of a covered cage and even forgets that he carries a gun. Despite being ‘acclimatised to violence’ and having ‘nerves of steel’ due to his military service, it seems that the presence of the hound renders John totally impotent ...

More lab experiments: Sherlock can’t find any illegal drugs under the microscope, just sugar and water ... ‘sweet emotions’ ... the basic ingredients of a ‘natural high’. In the end John shoots both - hound and dog - a foreshadowing of what will happen in the following episode on Bart’s roof .

THE REICHENBACH FALL

Jim Moriarty, Mr Big G, prepares to introduce Sherlock to his - their - final problem. He is the man with the key, who is in controll of the vaults of power, who is able to free dangerous criminals from their prison and breaks open the crown jewel’s case. He is Mr Sex ...

Falling for John ... falling towards John, who is caught in the circle and cross-hair pointer of a sniper’s gun, a sniper who works for Mr Sex. After the Baskerville experiments Sherlock knows how very afraid John is of the Hound, therefore the Hound must never get John. As a consequence Jim (the hound) and Sherlock (the dog) both ‘die’.

THE EMPTY HEARSE

An underground journey. From dark and dangerous woods, in whose lightless depths the mind observes the torment of the imprisoned body, back to the trains and tunnels below the city of London, where the transport starts getting into gear.

Then the explosive transport at Sumatra Road, the underground station beneath the Houses of Parliament, that was closed before it ever opened, threatens to bring the government down.

THE SIGN OF THREE

A great treasure from the banks gets lost to the Waters. The sign of four has become a sign of three. Not long now until AGRA steps forth and then Sherlock will be drawn into a river, a maelstrom, with only one destination.

Close observation can prove dangerous because one never knows what might wait at the end. Scorched, fallen and drowned in tea. It’s the eye that first sins and then falling can not be avoided ...

Some clueing and looking under the influence of chemistry turns out to be essential to find the correct solution - a solution that will lead Sherlock to one more, not expected, deduction ... Oh what a night! I felt a rush like a rollin' ball of thunder, spinnin' my head around and takin' my body under ... Sherlock’s ‘I’m in love’ deduction becomes the turning point of the story.

HIS LAST VOW

Sherlock reveals and confronts Mary, his facade, which will seal both their fates. Sherlock falls towards Jim, towards Mr Sex, who is chained to the wall of a circular cell like a vicious dog, singing of pouring rain. Countless vortex-spirals-smiley faces are watching intently. Then Sherlock gets caught in the cross-hair pointer of the government ... ‘Oh, Sherlock. What have you done?’ - ‘A deal with the devil’ ... ‘You want me to shake hands with you in hell? I shall not disappoint you.’ ... ‘Dewer’s Hollow or Sherrinford?’

THE ABOMINABLE BRIDE

From the beginning then: Burning tobacco transforms into a gunshot aimed at Baker Street. The veil of the bride lifts. John and Jim are connected by a circle of glowing light. How many pipes will Sherlock need to solve the final problem?

Towards the journey’s end lies Rich Brook’s cauldron, Jim’s cauldron that is waiting for Sherlock. And smiling the detective plunges down into Mr Sex’s boiling maelstrom of overwhelming emotions ... flying free as a bird, carried away by the chemistry of love.

THE SIX THATCHERS

The former drug-induced victorian fever dream has now been replaced by a modern ‘natural high’ and Sherlock starts to explore the cauldron. He relives the past, faces old monsters, investigates the destruction of masks and finds a memory stick with secret informations about AGRA next to a swimming pool. Could it be the same memory stick Jim threw into another swimming pool in another episode?

Circles within circles ... another premonition of the dark well that is waiting for Sherlock to devour him?

“Amo, amas, amat ... I love, you love, he loves.” And again circles within circles. Circles that make up a fan ... a ‘wind machine’ ... with a black hole at the centre. In the end AGRA leads to AMO. The city of Agra, on the banks of the Yamuna river, is most famously known for the Taj Mahal ... symbol of undying love.

Well in the mirror ... mirror of the well? And the reflection in a mirror shows the truth ... the facade and that what the facade hides and protects. A mirror filmed side by side with a bathroom - the same bathroom in which John was ‘not shaving’ for Sherlock Holmes, the detective who likes his doctors clean shaven ...

Snow-capped mountain-waves rise from the foaming waters of a stirred up swimmingpool. Sherlock and Ajay, the man who wears the Y on his cheek like Jim on his lips, are locked in a fierce fight beneath an artificial waterfall. The facade finally falls and the stream becomes a river, a torrent, with only one destination.

THE LYING DETECTIVE

At the bottom of the cauldron and still falling ... that’s where Sherlock finally reaches the beginning. The great story-cycle starts to close.

Smiley face, serial killer and the fall float to the surface and merge into one single case, while Eurus, the East Wind, broken loose from her prison, begins to dictate the rhythm. The‘truth’ gets in touch once more and announces her survival. Sherlock is challenged to go to Hell.

‘We always saw it coming’ ... that dark abyss of the well ...

THE FINAL PROBLEM

‘Patience’ wears thin and the long overdue explosion of the ‘passions’ grenade inside 221b causes a jump and a fall through fire and foggy clouds onto a ship at sea.

Sherlock and John call themselves pirates. A gap in the clouds meets a hole in the ground and Mr Sex becomes the stationmaster of the East Wind’s experiments ... ‘Choo-choo! Come on now! Aaaaaall aboard!’ ... the transport takes up speed ...

At the bottom of the well: Sherlock finds somthing long forgotten but deeply familiar ... ‘Hello skull, my dear old friend! ... Hello John, did you miss me?’

‘Deep waters, Sherlock, all your life. In all your dreams. Deep waters.’ ... and the vast ocean of long suppressed, overwhelming emotions yearns for the pirate to dare its billowing waves ...

Water ...

Just some general basic info for good measure: water represents life, physical and spiritual birth, forgiveness, purification and flexibility. Water is also said to be a feminine energy, connected to passion and emotion. It can be associated with birth, fertility, and refreshment. In traditional western philosophy it is one of the four elements essential to life. Colours commonly associated with it are blue and green. Flowing water, like rivers, represents death, rebirth and the passage of time. Water is also a universal symbol of change and of the unconscious mind, linked to the moon. In alchemy water is associated with the element Mercury, it’s symbol a downward-pointing triangle. (Sources: Water symbolis X X)

At the bottom of a well ...

The surface of water is like a mirror. It gives off a reflection and reflections have long been symbolically associated with truth. ‘Truth lies at the bottom of a well’ and ‘Truth coming out of her well’ has already been discussed by several people. Jean-Léon Gérôme’s four paintings are also well known in this context. Thanks @possiblyimbiassed for this interesting link on the ‘vicar’ post. The statement that ‘truth lies at the bottom of a well’ originates from the Greek philosopher Democritus: “We know nothing in reality; for truth lies in an abyss.”

Truth, lies and liars are constantly repeated themes in Sherlock BBC. Even the creators described themselves more than once as ‘lying liars who lie’. The Kafka-Paradox comes to mind:

“Art depends on truth, but truth, being indivisable, cannot know itself: to tell the truth is to lie. thus the writer is the truth, and yet when he speaks he lies.“

Well, well .....

A well is a deep hole, made in the ground, from which water can be removed. Since prehistoric times wells have had great significance. They are associated with the feminine principle, the womb of the Great Mother. In psychology, descending into a well, equals the positive regression of the conscious to the unconscious mind, to gain new insights. (Sources: Wells symbolism X X X X)

In myths and fairytales wells are often holy and serve as portals to the Otherworld - into the unknown world of the unconscious mind - of that what is hidden and inaccessible in everyday life. A stream leading into a well is a symbol for the union of male and female. Trains and tunnels come to mind but also that one scene in TFP of John in the well, when water starts pooring into it (Source of PRISMApic @constancecream x) ... and also Sherlock’s line in HLV: ‘Sherlock is actually a girl’s name’.

Other continuous motives in Sherlock BBC are fairytales. There are a lot of references to a number of well known fariytales included in the story. In TRF the ‘Complete Edition of Grimm’s Fairy Tales’ (published by Routledge and Kegan Paul 1948, with 212 illustrations by Josef Scharl (X)) plays an important role and leads Sherlock to Max and Claudette (the ‘big one’ and the ‘lame’), the siblings who got abducted by Jim and poisoned with Mercury.

Mother Holle ...

One of the fairytales, collected by the Brothers Grimm, that features a well, is Mother Holle, also known as Mother Hulda or Old Mother Frost (fairytales + interpretations). In this story two girls who are half-siblings jump into a well - tirst the one, then the other one - to retrieve something that had gone lost. Both become unconscious during the fall and when they wake up again they have entered the Otherworld. Here the girls are confronted with several tasks they need to solve before they are allowed to go back again. The return of both girls - one covered with golden rain, the other one covered with pitchy rain - is announced by the ‘cock-a-doodle-doo’ of a rooster. The crow of a rooster - the cockcrow - is also often used as a metaphor for revelation and transformation.

Mother Holle is related to the Germanic figure of Perchta, who is a somewhat contradictory and Janus-faced character, sometimes depicted with big teeth. She abodes in the depth of a well’s underworld but at the same time she’s also in heaven from which she lets the snow fall down to earth. Eurus comes to mind, whol lives deep down below the island of Sherrinford and at the same time she is on board of a plane high up in the sky.

On the one hand Frau Holle/Perchta was depicted as a young and lovely lady, clothed in white, whose power granted fertility and abundance. But on the other hand she was the old crone, a dark goddess, the queen of witches, demons and restless spirits of the dead - also called ‘the wild hunt’ - who swept up the souls of children who had died before being named and transported them to the Otherworld. As a spinner, Holle was also a deity of fate. Her festival is in the middle of winter - at the same time that is regarded as the Twelve Days of Chrismas, the Twelve Tide of the Celtic calendar.

Back to Reichenbach’s - Rich Brook’s Cauldron .....

“If Moriarty has risen from the Reichenbach cauldron, he will seek you out.” (Mycroft, TAB)

As longsnowsmoon5 pointed out in this post from 2016, the term ‘cauldron’ was indeed a careful choice of words from the creators of Sherlock BBC. Interestingly that word doesn’t appear in The Final Problem nor in The Empty House, the two canon stories that tell about the events at the Reichenbach Falls. (Pot, cettle, cauldron)

To summarize: a cauldron is a large metal pot, used for cooking over an open fire. When a cauldron of water is placed over a fire, filled with water and boiled, its magic can be seen in bubbling action. Whatever is placed into it comes out changed. The word ‘cauldron’ is also used to describe a stiuation characterized by instability and strong emotions (for example: cauldorn of repressed emotions).

Originating from the central source of nourishment in a Celtic household, the cauldron became over the centuries a symbol of transformation and spiritual - if not physical - regeneration. Magic cauldrons appear as a leading theme in Celtic mythology. Some never empty themselves as long as they are not used by cowards. Others bring the dead back to life - dead soldiers, so that they can return to battle - or they contain the essence of wisdom and knowledge. Ceridwen’s magical cauldron held a potion that granted knowledge and inspiration. She is regarded as the Celtic goddess of rebirth, transformation and inspiration and closely associated with the full moon.

The famous Gundestrup cauldron is a richly decorated silver vessel, adorned with the horned god Cernunnos surrounded by a stag, canines, felines and bovine animals. In Sherlock BBC the horns of bull and stag and several characters who ‘wear’ those horns (Sherlock, Mary, Mycroft, Janine and the ‘Viking’) turn up repeatedly. Some of the animals depicted on the Gundestrup cauldron make also an appearance in Sherlock BBC: elephants, cats and dogs, lions and dragons, pigs and birds. Where the dark secrets are kept ...

A circular staircase spirals down to the ‘Alexandrian Library of secrets and scandals’, the central ‘repository where all the sensitive and dangerous informations’ are guarded behind lock and key. Not in a vault they are kept but inside a mind palace, a brain. And what an interesting choice by the creators to name that collection of most sensitive informations after the Alexandrian Library, which was one of the largest and most significant libraries of the ancient world. Maybe the decisive factor to choose exactly this facility had been its name? Because names often seem to have great importantce in this story. For example: Alexander means ‘defending man’ and this fits very well with army doctor John Watson. Alexander is also another name for Paris, the guy who eloped with beautiful Helen and so caused the great Trojan war (x).

It rather seems that the name of that mind-palace-library and the secret it keeps are actually one and the same ....

As mentioned above, a well often symbolizes the glance into the depths of the soul. It’s a place of change and rebirth. No one comes out of such a well the same person they fell into it. Wanting to find his true self - that what he really is - Sherlock has to dare this dark pit and listen to that what is waiting there. After all, information is the power to change.

And sometimes the well and the secret it guards seems to turn out to be one and the same as well .....

It would be very interesting to learn what conclusions Sherlock might draw from all his detailed investigations and deductions regarding his ‘pink case’ and his preferred ‘cup of tea’ ..... :))))

Can function as any number of useful tools. Wrist computer uses include data storage, inventory management, topographical mapping, assisted targeting, medical diagnostics, radio receiver, video player, music player, and portable gaming console, a communicator, a light, a scanner, a smart phone, a smart watch, a portable computer, etc.

It lets him/her/them stay in contact with their handlers and allies. It gives him/her/them mission-specific information. Including where weapon caches are. It keeps track of their credentials. Is also a handheld personal force shield generator. It has crime databases, wiretapping, evidence analysis, a lie detector, and monitors its wearer's heartbeat, blood pressure, & blood sugar to ensure that its use was authorized and to send help if the user is healthy or is in trouble. Can project 3d and 4d holograms. It provides internet access and cellular reception with clear reception and unlimited data anywhere on Earth.

Has clear reception and cellular reception in terraformed and colonized planets, moons, comets, asteroids, & planetoids star systems and galaxies of the multiverse. It uses nanotechnology to physically reconfigure itself to prevent hacking. It also has GPS functionality. Has a hacking tool. Has a compact first aid kit. Is a wearable computer. Has an interface is a holographic 3d wrist-mounted computer complete with a miniature 4d holographic projector.

The wrist communicator is based on an alien memory metal so when they take it off it can flex into a tablet shape. Can hack computers, machines, phones, tablets, robots, & artificial intelligences. It can dispense first-aid, repair and customize equipment, and send and receive phone calls. It can record audio sound and visual video footage for later playback. Using a simple but elegant form of sonar and satellite tracking this wrist mounted computer can map out areas where its user travels.

It acts as a database for the wearer’s personal information and inventory. It is capable of tracking the wearer’s status and organizes the user’s inventory of apparel, junk, weapons, misc, armor, mods, aid, items, & equipment. An overlay of the data is also available. In addition, the device features a built-in radio module. It has an advanced compass.

It has a virtual 3d and 4d map that displays discovered locations. It has a holographic map projector which shows a complete 3D or 4D scan of an area. It has a sonar and motion sensor system that highlights nearby allies, enemies, people, animals, beasts, creatures, and monsters. It is a communicator, a map, a flashlight, a compass, a scanner, a music player, a smart watch, & a portable computer.

It has lighting functionality. A holographic player, video tape, CD player, & DVD player is mounted beneath the display. It is capable of keeping tabs on the user’s health condition, ammo, weapons, armor, apparel, & food and water. It shows the user’s health bar as red, yellow, orange, & green. It has a blue, pink, and purple heath bar system to show laser, plasma, & hard light shields and force fields. It has a silver, gold, & obsidian health bar system to show combat armor, power armor, & mech suit armor condition.

The wrist computer gauntlet’s uses include but are not limited to data storage, inventory management, topographical mapping, assisted targeting, telephone, medical diagnostics, computer, radio receiver, telegram, hacking, music (CD) player, & Video (Video and DVD) Player . It can map out areas. It can take and store notes and memos. It has a built-in radio. It has a geiger counter and toxic gauge for radiation, toxins, & poisons. It has a built-in flash light used to illuminate dark areas.

It needs to be worn as a gauntlet which seals with a biometric lock. It utilizes a revamped 3d or 4d holographic display interface with animated images. It automatically updates using satellites. Additionally, it integrates with the onboard computers of power armor and mech suits allowing a user to access their wrist mounted computer from within the armor via a HUD visor display. The inventory menu is a system used for viewing and managing collected items. The menu also displays total currency and carry weight on the screen.

It is sorted into several tabs. Weapons, Apparel, Aid, Misc, Junk, Mods, Ammo, & Money. All guns, melee weapons, grenades, and mines fall in this tab. Specs of weapons can be viewed and compared as well as equipped and unequipped weapons. It shows their attachments such as silencers or suppressors, compensators or muzzles, grips, flashlights, scopes, red dot sight, red laser sight, or grenade launcher. Shows the damage effect it has on enemies. It shows the weapon’s stats such as range, damage, etc. It shows the weapons condition and shows if it is in need of maintenance and repair.

All armor and clothing appear in this tab. Specs of armor and clothing can be viewed and compared as well as equipped and unequipped apparel. All aid such as medicines, drugs, food, and drinks are sorted here and can be used and consumed in this tab. Miscellaneous items such as keys, cds, dvds, holographic tapes, notes, and items which fall under no other category are in this tab. Mod tab for weapon and armor modifications. Ammo lists all types of ammunition for guns, grenades, & mines currently in inventory. Currency shows all dollars and copper, bronze, brass, silver, gold, & platinum coins, cash, and credits.

A unique feature of the Mark 20 Wrist Computer is an adapter plug attached to the underside of the device. This plug is used to perform diagnostics on power armor and mech suits. It can hack into computers. It has a lockpick module to pick the locks of doors, safes, etc. In addition, the plug is also used to gain control of robots, androids, artificial intelligences, automatons, mech suits. When wearing a power armor or mech suit the user does not interact with the wrist computer directly. Instead all the information is displayed through the suit’s integrated HUD but with a different HUD color.

This implies that the Mark 20 is capable of interfacing with power armor or mech suits onboard systems to allow access to its functionality without having to directly operate the device. It is a wrist gauntlet, wrist bracer or wrist computer. It is a piece of wrist-worn technology. It houses several technologically advanced features. The wrist gauntlet is a small computer device worn on the wrist and features numerous controls for various items of human and alien magic and technology. It has a digitized display. The gauntlet is linked directly into a metahuman and superhuman humanoid’s combat armor, combat helmet, power armor, power armor helmet, & mecha suit and governs many of their functions.

The gauntlet also acts as a power source for these tools although it has only limited capacity and would become depleted with repeated use. However, despite the clearly advanced nature of the technology involved, the wrist gauntlet can be recharged from any common power source such as gas, steam, water, nuclear power, & electricity.

The mark 20 is the most customizable model made. It was the epitome of technology. Each instrument is individually crafted and personally attuned to its recipient. The device is so personalized to its user that it could continuously monitor and report the vital signs of its assigned wearer in real time. It was the quintessential personal data assistant complete with a magical AI modeled after a female humanoid alien and female human. Complete with its own mapping system, navigation system, radio receiver, computer, video and music player, cellphone, & personal inventory tracking software. It’s a souped-up PDA complete with DNA biometric lock.

A/N: so I thought to try my hand with Dreamcatcher, I really hope you like it. I got really inspired by Jeepers Creeper and I really want to go on a road trip, so I’ll be living through Siyeon except for the whole scary dying thing of course. If you like this, please do a favor and reblog it. That really helps. This is very gendered. I picked male for no particular reason. Next one I’ll work to keep it gender neutral. Hopefully there’s minimal grammar and spelling mistakes, as this wasn’t proofread. Hopefully its bearable. Also this is an AU/non-idol Siyeon

A bead of sweat left a trail down the length of her neck, as she wiped it off of her chest. He watched the now missing bead on the top of her chest right before it had gotten to the curve of her breast. “Stop staring. Your job is to drive me to the dealership across country.” She slid on her sunglasses, as she closed the compact of her mirror. “Hot?” He asked in a teasing tone. “Apparently as much as you.” She shot back, as she checked the driving route on his phone that was mounted on the dashboard.

“Why would they make us drive this car that has no air conditioning in it during the middle of the summer?” She asked, as she returned the screen of his phone back to the electric rode they were on. He let out a soft chuckle at her complain. “Siyeon you could’ve gone on the plane.” His tone was light and playful, which resulted her to smile. He returned the smile, as he knew why she had chosen this route. It was to spend time with him and he was planning on taking every back rode from Louisiana to North Carolina. The ride stretched out in front of them, as he drove.

A few hours into the day drive, Siyeon was napping in the passenger seat. Silence bored him, it the radio wasn’t working either, as this was a project car she had hoped he would help her in. It was a vintage mustang that needed vanity repair and some mechanical repairs. She didn’t have an interest in car, but she did know what she liked and how to get those things. It was something he loved about her. Today, he thought this trip could change their entire relationship with her. He noticed the gas level signaling that it was nearing the empty line.

Siyeon was sound asleep, so he decided it was best to just stop by a gas station without waking her up. He turned into a gas station that seemed to be dated way back to the 1950’s. He was surprised that gas stations like this still worked tomorrow. He parked next to a gas pump near the store, then he confusingly examined the pump. He realized that he would have to pay before he could he pump. He pulled his wallet out of his dark brown wallet that had his name engraved on the top layer.

He disappeared into the gas station, he came back to fill the gas tank, but he saw an old Ford truck parked outside the station, but by the only other pump in the grounds. The windows were so tinted it was hard to even tell if someone was there in the driver’s seat. He pumped the gas, as he kept his eyes on the old rustic truck. He placed the handle to back to the pump, as he heard the truck start up. He slowed his pace to the driver’s side, but the truck made no move to leave. He entered the car, as he cautiously pulled out of the gas station. He recalled no one coming into the gas station after him, but he was certain no one did.

He checked the rear view mirror to make sure they were being followed. Nothing, so he settled down. He eased on the gas pedal, then he heard rustling. He snapped his head to the sound, Siyeon sleepily examined the forgotten paper bag of breakfast sandwiches he’d bought for them, but she seemed to not noticed the weird truck in the parking space. “Did you get any drinks?”she said with a yawn, as she grabbed a small bag of hash browns rounds. A soft coo of excitement whistled pass her lips. She popped one in her mouth, then she fed another round to him.

He smiled as he accepted the fried chip. “I forgot them on the counter.” He mentally kicked himself. She smiled with ease, “and I knew that could happen, so I packed some drinks in this cooler.” She unlatched her seatbelt, then she climbed over the back of the conjoined seats to reach the small cooler. He looked up at the rear view mirror to watch until he noticed the same brown old truck following them. “Shit, Siyeon get back in the seat and put your seatbelt on.” He demanded, as he pulled at the belt loop of her jeans to get her to sit back in the seat.

“What are you doing?” She said, as she fell back into the seat. Her hands held a bottle of water and a soda. “I was looking for an orange soda for you.” Her was disgruntled and annoyed. She put the drinks to the side, as she latched the seatbelt around her. “This truck. It’s this truck behind us that’s been following us.” He said, as he checked the mirrors he could use. She turned to look through the back window, as her fear spiked. The truck sped to ram them from behind, she braced herself for the impact. It was jolted the car forward, as he tried to keep the car in control from the impact. She held on tightly to everything around her, as he finally go out of the way.

The truck sped off into the road, as he struggled to slow it down. The truck was seen turning into a side road and disappeared. Siyeon jumped out of the car on to shaky legs, as she watched the truck disappear. He turned off the car, as he hung out of the car. His head in his hand, she raced to his side, and she wrapped her arms around her. “Are you okay?” She asked, as he wrapped his own arms around her waist. “Yeah. I should be asking you.” He could feel how shaky she was, as she held him “What was that creep’s problem?” She asked as she looked down at him.

“No idea,” he looked up at her, her face held so many questions, but irritation flared through her. “Well that’s something to add to the list of things that needs to be fixed.” She griped as she let him go to examine the damage on her car. He followed her as she brought a hand to her forehead, as if the sight itself gave her a headache. “At least we’re away from that creep.” He grimaced but he reminder her of what matter. She sighed as she tried to calm herself down. “Yeah you’re right.” She said finally. “Can we fix it now? The trunk won’t shut now.” She tried to use her weight to close the trunk. It popped open after she landed on her feet.

She was going to try again, but he softly grabbed her by the waist to let her move out of his way. “I have kinetic rope that I can use to tie it down for now.” He opened the trunk, as she looked around to see if anyone was driving around. “At least it was just the trunk and we can still drive it right?” She asked worried, as if she didn’t want to be here any longer than they needed to be. “Yeah this thing is like a tank.” He wrapped the rope around the the notch and the keyhole to hold together, as he drove.

Her sunglasses were enough to shield but she still made a shield with her hand, as she turned to face him. “Should we report him?” She asked, as she walked back to him and the car. He tightly tied the trunk together as much as he could. He tried to pull up the trunk to see if it would give with his strength. “Yeah that’ll do it and if we see a highway patrol station, as long as you remember the details of the car.” He looked at him, as he walk to the driver while she walked to the passenger seat. “I remember the license plate number.” She smiled happily, as she waved her phone.

He should’ve known she would be prepared. “Come on there. Let’s go.” She peered over her sunglasses at him, then she tapped the steering wheel. He started the car back up, as he was handed his sandwich. He took it with one hand, as she began eating hers. The rode stretched out for miles, as they began to continue their journey. He balled the wrapper of his breakfast, then he handed it to her to compile the trash. He slowed at the sight of a stop sign approaching, the sun was dipped into the horizon, as she promised the nearest gas station would call for a switch of drivers.

The stop sign was at a crossroads, fields of grass surrounded it and a church not too far from them. Siyeon got his attention, as she pointed to the church. The same truck parked by the side of the church, as he carried what suspiciously looked like a body to a in ground tunnel entrance. Her breathing caught in her throat, as they watched the scene of this stranger tossing this massive object into the abyss. Her mouth dropped, as the head of this stranger snapped at our direction. She yelled for him go.

He jabbed his foot on the gas pedal to the floor of the car. The car screeched at the extreme velocity, as he drove from the church. She was frantically looking behind them, as he drove as fast as this car would allow. The sound of a supersonic horn blared through the quiet of the evening, Siyeon continued to hold on to the back of the seat, so she could watch the truck. The blinding lights of the truck made it hard to drive, as it approached with the horn blaring. Whimpers escaped her in fear, as the truck came dangerously close.

They braced themselves for the impact, as it came. It was much harder, that the metal of the bumper latched onto the truck’s. His hands were tense and tight against the steering wheel, as he fought to keep control of the car. The speedometer raising with every distance that the truck forced them to go. The car lost control, then it was driven off the road. He braced himself, as he could see that even Siyeon did the same. A ditch was coming too fast to them.

She woke up to the sight of the crash sight, blood smeared her face, as she looked groggily for him. The driver’s seat was empty, the moon now out and covered by clouds. She slowly tried to get out of the car, as she shouted his name. The door latch seemed stuck, so she climbed out the window. Her head throbbed from the impact, as she walked around the car to see if he’d been thrown out of the car. She shouted loudly, as she looked around. Fear covered her completely, as she began realizing that she was alone. Thoughts of possibilities of what could have happened to her ran through her mind, as she saw a sign of a local truck stop and diner in less than a mile.

She was sore, but she needed to get help. She turned around to grab a phone to help illuminate her way. Once her phone was in her hand. She checked for a signal to call out. Yet there was not any, so she used the flashlight to help guide to this place for a phone. She kept her eyes on the signal in case she could make a call to help her find him. Even as she made her way to this diner, she shouted for him. Desperation chilled her spine, as she neared the brown truck further than she was from the diner.

She began running to the diner, as she gripped her phone tightly in her hand. She practically stumbled into the diner, as the few patrons and waitresses turned to look at her. She had looked like she’d survived from a car crash, wounds, bruises and blood all over her splattered body. A waitress helped her sit in a near table, as Siyeon tried to explain that someone ran her and her friend off and she thought that this same person took her friend. The waitress was confused, but she called for police. She reported the accident and a missing person.

“I’m telling you the license plate number. That’s the same truck that ran my friend and I off the road.” Siyeon explained desperately as she was receiving medical care. The police officers took the information of the number, make and model down. They spoke through the walkie attached to their shoulders. Siyeon was given a cup of water, as well as a small plate of food. The waitress gave her sympathetic look, as she set the food down. Siyeon could count the amount of patrons, officers, waitresses and cook in both her hands.

She forget it was a holiday for the United States, so most people would go to beach or theme parks. A few would stay in small towns due to demands of money or no plans to go anywhere. The lighting here was soft to compliment the moonlight outside. They waitress waited until the police returned to their car to make plans on what to do with Siyeon. “The truck you described, was it playing music?” The question sounded ludicrous to Siyeon, so she gave her a bewildered look. “When he picks who he wants, there’s no escaping him.” The waitress continues, “they won’t find him you know? Your friend. He was picked.” She explained to Siyeon, her mouth dropped at the words, as she was listened to the small town tale of this family.

“They’ll take his eyes. Like they did my friend” Siyeon shook her head, as she cupped her ears. “Stop it. He alive and I’m going to find him.” She said in disbelief, as she didn’t want to hear it. The waitress stopped her tale, as she noticed how distressed Siyeon was. “It’s best you just let them be and go on to where you come from.” The waitress cleared the table and she took the dishes to the back room. The police came back to inform Siyeon that they would take her to the accident site for her to grab her things and take her to the nearest hotel.

She stood up to follow them to their police car, they drove back to the car crash, and the site looked like someone had gone through the whole car. They examined the car first before allowing Siyeon to collect what she could. “Any explanations on why this could happen without any people around for miles on end?” She asked, as she picked up the article of clothing for the two of them. The officers were speechless, which further confirmed to her of the hideaway family targeting them could be real. “What about my friend? What are you going do about that?” She asked, as she carried their bags to the car.

They assured her that they are having people investigate the area and surrounding areas for him. She showed a photo she’d taken of the two of this day before the trip even started. They approached a motel that was more in town, but it gave her a chill. She wasn’t sure if it was because it remained her of the Norman Bates motel or the fact that no one was there. She sighed, as they escorted to the front desk. The vibe of the hotel seemed off, but it’s an attempt at being cozy. I was given a key, as I began to threaten them that I would be staying until my friend was found.

They said that they would be there the next morning and that the best thing to do was for her to sleep. She scoffed, as she unlocked the door, the room was basic, a tv that seemed dated to the late 90’s and that was the most “up to date” technology. She sighed in frustration muddled with fear, as the officers left her. She locked the door behind her, then she moved some things in front of the door. The neon light gave an eerie ambiance to the room, as she settled in the bed. She checked her bag to see if she had her phone charger, which in luck she did. She checked to see if there was an outlet for her to phone charger.

She noticed one behind the bed, so she grumbled as she moved the bed to the side. A small crawl space was just behind the bed, but she couldn’t move the bed by herself. She stopped her curiosity from getting to her, as she just connected her phone. She heard the soft melody that her phone was charging. She closed the blinds, as she got ready for bed, and she examined the bruises on her body. She clicked her tongue at the sights of the wounds from the crash. She laid on the bed so she could relax and fall asleep eventually.

A flood of light bleed through the cracks of the curtain from the window facing the parking lot interrupted her sleep. She stood up, then she made her way to the window to peek. An audible gasp escaped her, as she hid from the view of the window. The same truck was there parked right in front of her hotel room. A hand clasped over her mouth, as she tried to gather what to do next. She hurriedly went to her phone, then she dialed for emergency. As the phone rang, she heard slow footsteps coming from the bathroom. Immediately she turned to see the silhouette of a tall figure looming in the darkness of the bathroom. She began to make her way to the door, as she push what she could put of the way of the door.

The figure lunged at her, but she moved out the way. She back away, climbed the bed to put something in between them. “What did you do with him?” She yelled, as he kind he at her again. She tried to jump towards the door, but he got a hold of her ankle and pulled her hard on the bed. She fell with a hard thud against the bed, as she hit her face against the bed frame. She screamed for help, as she struggled to get away from him. The figure keep her still, as he pinned her down. Finally she gave into unconsciousness, the figure took from the hotel. The stillness of the hotel returned once the truck left.

She awoke to being tied, the wind of being in the back of a truck blew her hair around, so she sat up groggily. Her face and body hurt, as she looked around. She was on the back of the brown truck, as she saw they were driving to the crash site. Fear leaped in her heart, as she looked around the truck to use to cut herself free. She found a metal stake that she could use. She rubbed the rope against the stake, as she did it quickly before they would get the destination. She sighed in relief as she was cut free. Now she just needed get off the moving truck, she looked out and over the edge of the truck, and she looked around.

Under the moonlight, she spotted a blood splatter checkered cloth van. Her eyes followed the pant leg to the hem of the shirt she recognized, a soft suppressed sob escaped her lips, as she inside of the sulk of her friend. She could the inside of his head through the socket of his eyes, the sight made her nauseous, as she processed what she was seeing. A hand tightly held her mouth, as she tried to control the sob that rattled her body. She knew she had to get out of there as soon as she could. The truck slowed its pace, as she looked around to see they had made it to the crash site.

She shook as she readied herself to fight. She would fight to run, as she held on to the stake. Her back to the caddy, as she waited. Her ready to strike the moment he was close enough. He came into view, so she attacked. She used the momentum of her jumping at him to plunge the edge into the side of the strangers neck. The impact caused them to fall to the ground, she pulled out the stake, and she began running back to the direction of the motel. Her pace was fast, as she could feel this stranger running after her. She knew this was impossible, she stabbed him right in the neck, and that should’ve resulted into some sort of slowing down.

She was ready for another confrontation, as she could hear the steps right behind her. She was pushed to the ground, as she landed with a loud smack to the gravel from the side of the road. She rolled quickly to her back, as she plunged into the fleshy mass on her. A scream she emitted was terrified, as she continued to keep plunging the metal piece into it. It wasn’t until her screams turn to pain, as she felt this figure bite into her leg. Now more desperate to get this thing off of her. She had to use her legs to kick him off.

With one strong kick, the figure flew off of her, and she took the chance to start running. Now to the truck. Her leg where it was bitten the thin fabric of her pajamas did nothing to protect her. She limped as quickly as she could. She heard the footsteps behind, as she neared the truck. The second she could throw herself into the truck and she started it. She made the quickest U-turn she could manage. She thought that she might tip over the truck, as she did the turn. There in rays of the car lights, was man-like figure, as his face more insect like than man, but he stood on two foot like any human. She switched the gears to go full speed to the truck could have.

The impact caused the figure to be rolled under the cars, she stopped to see if she could see the body just laying there. Something told her to back up into it to make sure to kill this thing. Maybe it was rage, but the tired screamed in protest at the amount of speed she’d floored the tire. The bump of the body satisfied her, as she ran it over one last time. She speed to the police station, as she parked the truck. She came into the police station, as she recognized one of the officers at the front desk. She threw the keys at him, “I want out of here now.” She demanded, “the truck you thought I made up is out there along with the body of my friend. It came back for me.” She explained at the flabbergasted officer.

The officer order for back up, as they checked the truck. A note pinned to his shirt, sprawled, “Jeepers Creepers where’d you get those peepers?” Siyeon staggered back, then fell to the concrete. A cry of fear shudder through her. That note was not there earlier.

The intensity of the snow flurries had ebbed since Lloyd had sped past the city limits of Toronto. Every road taken so far had been quiet. After all, only the brave or desperate were willing to drive into what could become a storm at a moment’s notice. As Lloyd’s eyes fixed on the empty Ontario Highway 109 toward Teviotdale before him, he’d have openly admitted he was the latter.

A country song played quietly from the car’s speaker. Usually, Lloyd would sing along with its rich tones and drum his thumbs on the worn steering wheel, but his lips were still. He wasn’t even sure he could recall the title. All he was certain of was that his chest ached and his thoughts were not slowing down. His heart had started to pound.

Would Jamie still be there? Would she wait for him? His eyes shot to the phone mounted to the dashboard. Silently, he scrutinised the little arrow directing him toward the location she’d given him. The sound of a door slamming filled his mind, followed by his voice shouting Jamie’s name. His heart clenched, and his knuckles grew a more vivid white around the steering wheel. If he lost focus, it would only take one patch of compacted snow to send him hurtling off the road.

But how could he stop the images of their turbulent life from flicking through his mind like a zoetrope as he headed toward a moment he'd been fearing for months — whether he'd wanted to admit it or not?

Because you feel guilty, his turbulent mind goaded. You've always felt guilty. Lloyd's knuckles burst against his stretched skin. The world was cruel to her, and you were crueller. Your own flesh and blood. His eyes slipped to the rearview mirror. For a moment, he almost expected to see another face staring back at him, speaking the taunting truths ringing loud and clear in his troubled brain.

Except it was only his face that stared back, a patchwork of healing and fresh scratches. Patches of hair growing back thicker and faster than others. Tired, sunken eyes that always seemed to be looking for something. Searching. Wanting. Hunting.

A wave of nausea swept through him and lodged in his throat. How would Jamie react to him looking like this? What questions would she ask? What answers would he have to give?

For a moment, something compelled him to just turn around. It would be easier that way. Jamie had got herself out here — surely she could get herself back to wherever she’d been staying.

Then all at once, it hit Lloyd that he didn’t know where she’d been staying. He didn’t know who she’d been with. How had she been getting by? A hundred questions burst into his addled brain at once. A hundred questions he’d been forced to consider before when Jamie had fallen off his radar a few years ago.

Then she had reappeared, and sometimes she’d smiled. She’d wandered back into his life and the questions had fallen by the wayside. Back into his life with new people in hers. People that quickly become intertwined with his own day to day. Captivating green eyes and plum lip gloss. Soft mornings and endless nights. More questions that didn’t seem to need answers.

A white-knuckled hand scraped across his scalp, tugging short hair between his fingers. The wind whipped snowflakes across the front window. All it would take would be one patch of ice, and he’d never have any questions again. The scratching would stop.

He slapped his hand back onto the steering wheel and stared directly ahead, peering through the growing torrent of snow. If he carried on then he could answer the only question that truly mattered at that moment: was Jamie okay?

Time slipped by in a cascade of snowfall and concern. Between the roundabout in Teviotdale and the parking lot at Lurgan Beach, Lloyd had considered turning the car around no less than three more times. Each time, he’d chastised himself for letting his own sickening guilt influence his thoughts.

Even if coming face to face with Jamie and the emotional chasm between them was frightening, the thought of leaving her out here alone was worse. The thought of leaving her all over again when she needed support.

For once in her fucking life she deserves someone she can rely on.

The wind was blowing wildly as Lloyd opened the car door and stepped out into the frigid air. Cursing to himself, he grabbed his coat and hat from the passenger seat and wrenched them both on. He also grabbed the extra coat that Harley had lent him and tucked it under his arm.

Four steps away from the car, he doubled back to retrieve his phone from the dashboard holder. Jamie’s location was so close.

Sand and pebbles crunched under his boots as he strode toward the beach. The chill bit at his cheeks and nose. As he scaled the sandy bank, the landscape opened up before him. The rocking icebergs and the vast black expanse of Lake Huron. Patches of pale sand between the fresh littering of snow.

“Jamie.” Lloyd bellowed. The wind threw his voice back at him.

Always calling after her, it seemed to taunt.

The cuts on his face burnt.

“Jamie!” He roared, throwing his chest forward as he lurched toward the shore.

Ice floes heaved on the surface of the immense lake. Nothing but sheets of ice atop black water beneath an immaculate white sky as far as the eye could see. The line between the lake and sky was blurred. Lloyd stumbled closer.

The water had always exhilarated him. He’d spent his childhood racing along the sandy shores near their home and listening to the squeal of western gulls and terns. So many nights in the late summer of the previous year had been spent with his arms around Leah’s shoulders as they watched the distinctive silhouettes of surfers beneath a purple sky.

Yet, as he stared into the lake ahead, he felt something shift inside him. The darkness terrified him. How would it feel to be trapped beneath that ice unable to surface?

His head ached. So many questions with so few answers.

So many things that he couldn’t recall. So many moments that seemed out of place.

So many things he wished he could take back.

He could feel his mind spiralling like the snowflakes around him. His thoughts slipped like the sand beneath his feet.

If he submerged himself beneath the water, would it all be over? Would it change anything?

Would he be resigned to a peaceful rest where he could listen to the waves for eternity?

“Lloyd.”

The voice wrenched him back, and he turned instantly.

Jamie stood further up the beach with her hands deep in the pockets of her cardigan. Loose strands of hair whipped around her face.

She was where she had told him she’d be.

She looked okay.

For a long moment, Lloyd just stared at her. She looked older. There was a stiffness to her spine that he didn’t recognise. Yet, she was Jamie. Undoubtedly Jamie.

From the sharp eyes to the skin-and-bone frame, it was undoubtedly Jamie.

“I didn’t think you’d come,” Jamie admitted as Lloyd moved toward her. The wind swallowed up most of the volume of her voice, but Lloyd still heard every word with harsh clarity.

Why would she think you’d actually come?

“Jamie-”

“I don’t want some big confession, Lloyd. Some guilty apology. Please.”

“Let’s go to the car. You must be freezing.”

When Jamie didn’t move, Lloyd stepped closer until he stood directly before her. Close enough to reach out and wrap a large hand around her trembling shoulder.

“You deserve so much more than a rushed apology, Jamie. Let me take you somewhere warm. Please.”

Lloyd held out the extra coat.

“You don’t know what I deserve.” She sighed, reaching out to take the coat from his hands.

“Maybe not exactly, but I know it’s not to freeze to death on the shores of Lake Huron.”

For a moment, Lloyd saw Jamie’s lips twitch upward.

Ever since she was small, she’d never had the most natural smile. Sometimes it looked like she was trying to push through physical pain. Other times it looked merely performative — smiling for the sake of social convention. A smile that never quite reached her brilliant but turbulent eyes. Eyes as deep and dark as the waters at his back.

But he could remember the moments of laughter. The tiny little girl missing both of her front teeth that wouldn’t stop giggling as Derek marched around with a fake moustache on. Twelve-year-old Jamie so unsure about getting out of the car and going through the gates of her new school until Lloyd made a ridiculous statement about two large boys hunched over a snapped skateboard.

“I didn’t think-” Lloyd started, scanning the details of her face more intently. He’d seen so many versions of her, but never one that seemed so distant. What could he say to her now? It didn’t feel like he had much these days, and without Jamie, he had a lot less. “Listen-”

Before he could speak another word, Jamie collapsed against him. Instinctively, Lloyd held her in his arms. One hand cradled her head against his chest while his other wrapped around her back.

She was cold to the touch even beneath the extra coat. Even now, even after Lloyd had gotten the impression she was getting better, she still felt fragile. She had always felt so fragile, but sometimes her eyes looked so fierce.

Sometimes what he saw in her eyes scared him. An unpredictability that had never faded since she’d come into his life. A loathing at the world, at him, and at herself.

Ducking his head slightly, he pressed his cheek against her hair and squeezed a little harder.

Jamie breathed out steadily, looping her own arms around his waist. Her mind was racing to keep up with the thoughts that kept appearing and sinking like snowflakes on the lake’s surface.

She wasn’t sure how much time had passed when she withdrew her arms back to her side and took a step back. Now she could look at him. Really look at him.

Lloyd watched her curiously as she lifted her hand and wrapped blue-tinged fingers around his hat. His fingers jerked at his side, and Jamie expected him to grab her hand and push it away. Except he didn’t.

“I’m assuming it wasn’t the barber that fucked up this badly?” She said quietly, brushing her cool fingers against the uneven patches of hair. “I can see why you wear the hat.”

Lloyd scowled and lifted his hand to his forehead. She could picture him dragging his fingers across his skin, scoring tracks and oozing indents into the flesh.

“And I thought they did a number on me.” Jamie handed the hat back to him and shot him a smile. Lloyd received it as a grimace.

For a moment, laughter bubbled up inside her chest. She wanted to tilt her head back and laugh into the wind. Laugh until she was back under that bandstand covered in tattered blankets, fighting off yet another frigid Canadian winter.

Maybe if she’d been a little stronger, she could have pressed a bit harder on Lite’s windpipe. Maybe if she’d been a little less desperate, she wouldn’t have gotten into the car with her.

Maybe if she’d been dead long before that, Lloyd wouldn’t look how he did now: a shell of her brother.

Maybe if she’d stopped Annika from being the one to accompany her to the city that day.

And what if she’d answered her voicemail? I hope that you’re happy Jamie. I hope you got the fuck out of there.

She’d never be truly out of there. As she looked at the man before her with sunken eyes and scars poking out from his hairline, she knew she was going to throw herself right back in.

“We should go. I’ll take you back to the city. You can stay with Harley. And me. I’ve been staying there too.” Lloyd said. He paused for a long moment. “To help her while Cassie’s away.”

Jamie suddenly felt like the freezing cold water of the lake was slipping into her lungs. How little he knew. How much he had lost.

She wondered if he’d smiled the same since he’d forgotten how in love with her he had once been. How when Annika smiled at him, Lloyd forgot everything else in the world.

“Of course.” Jamie gestured for him to lead the way, and for a few moments, she watched him. He moved differently. He seemed smaller. Less sure of himself. And the troubled look in his eyes had shaken her.

Could she fix this? Was there anything left to fix?

You were just a fucking sad, lost, hurt kid and all I did was hate you for it.

She looked toward the shoreline. Her eyes fixed on the spot where the delusional illusion she’d seen of Annika only a few hours ago had seemed so real.

At the thought of the other, something bubbled in her stomach. Hatred perhaps? Guilt? Concern? She couldn’t help but feel that Annika really didn’t want to meet up with her for coffee. Would she be walking into a trap?

She pressed her hand over the shape of her phone in her pocket. Every move she made was probably getting her closer to some kind of trap anyway, but if she could find Annika…

“Come on, Jamie.” Lloyd called from the top of the bank.

She was going to find Annika. Maybe for Lloyd’s sake. Maybe for her own.

The main aim of fast EV charging is to minimize vehicle downtime. At present, DC charging technology allows EVs to charge rapidly in around 15-45 minutes. Unfortunately, this isn’t fast enough when it comes to medium & heavy-duty EVs. Longer charging times & vehicle downtimes are big barriers to electric truck adoption. Currently, a long-haul electric truck takes around 4 hours while charging at today’s high-capacity DC EV charging stations.

But there is a solution to this. And it is known as Megawatt Charging System (MCS). Megawatt charging is the future of EV charging for heavy-duty EVs. It allows large commercial electric trucks to charge up to 80% in just a few minutes!

Conclusion:

Longer times taken to charge EVs are a big irritant for EV owners, but there are multiple solutions being developed to deal with it. These promise to cut charging times, make owning an EV more convenient and most certainly, eradicate the headache of range anxiety.
