What is there to do about this feeling of "running out of time"
I see other queers engaging with kinks that I desperately want to participate in, but I'm also in the process of escaping financial abuse. I just want to be free :(
Read old school leather kink books. by people like Jack Rinella Guy Baldwin Pat Califa Larry Townsend etc. Most leather kinksters came to terms with being gay and kinky in their 40s, 50s, and beyond back in the day. Many of them were in straight marriages and had adult kids when they started. I routinely meet sexy queer kinky adults who are in their 30s-40s-50s-60s and just got divorced a few years ago and are only now venturing into kink. These people are having fulfilling adventurous lives. I didnt get divorced from my straight commonlaw spouse until my mid 30s. Until then my ability to do what I wanted sex wise was dramatically limited. Trawl Fetlife and youll see all kinds of seniors, disabled people, questioning people etc who are new to this world and loving it no matter the challenges. That's more common than young people I would say.

The ephemeral nature of Sport is so wacky for the fan content bc like. Theres an 80% chance any given Sensible Ship will end up in a position of "these guys havent even looked at each other in 5 yrs". Esp wrestling bc its continuous so theres ALWAYS new beefs and storylines. And bc its fandom the content creators will keep creating for ships that dont talk anymore (as they should). So reading for a new character is always a fun game of "is this a crack ship or were they commonlaw married for 10 years or did they kiss on the mouth with tongue once during a heated feud."

I always HCed that Magical Universe has very loose laws, especially when it comes to childcare and inheritance. And it is a combination of modern and antique standards. Good news? If you're born out of wedlock? It's fine! Only one parent? Fine! You are not a bastard because of it. Where's the catch? Your parents need to *give* you your last name. It can be mom's, dad's, both or a combination, it doesn't matter, but it is not automatically given to you. And if your parent doesn't do that, it is as good as (literally, it's legally that way) as them disowning you. They washed their hands of ya. Good luck babe. They can also take away your name at any time, yes even as an adult. And no, you can't just keep using it. If your last name was Smith, and you pissed your mom off so badly she took it back, you can't go to the city hall and have your last name be Smith again. It can by Smythe, Johnson or Pineapple, but not Smith. Also, as a parent, you're not obligated to give your kids to the state if you're done with them. You can just leave em somewhere, so long as they don't carry your last name. Meaning if a woman (Riven's mom) came back into the kid's (Riven's) life, he has no legal case against her for child abandonment and endangerment. Same goes for inheritance- if you are a bastard, and your parents die, you are literally the LAST person to get anything. A great great uncle trice removed and once tossed through a catapult has a bigger claim on the inheritance than you do. I was toying with the idea that even if there is literally no other petitioners you don't get anything bc clearly your parents hated you, but I also have a big reason why in Magic Dimension personal property is almost NEVER seized by the government, so yeah, I'm not putting that in. But why is it never seized by the government? Bc I want to kill Darcy and have Riven inherit her shit. Inheritance laws are kids over siblings and spouses over siblings and commonlaw marriage counts. Now I'm not sure what would make Riven be counted as her widower (maybe she dies saving him or sum?) but bc it is magic and I can do whatever I want, the finer points can wait. But anyways, she dies and Riven gets her money, her estate, and her title (in my HC trix are minor nobility. Very minor, but it still counts). Also Icy would be fucking furious lol.

titania does deserve a... wife...? to pair nicely with her... husband???...
yk queen mab is mentioned in romeo and juliet as the midwife of the fairies, and queen mab is also mentioned in later works - not by shakespeare, im pretty sure, but inspired by his works i thiiiink - as being oberons wife. so like. totally room for the summerdream parents to be a throuple instead of just a two person... relationship of vague marital status... oberon and titania and mab, that is. and then whatever number of children you think suits them best....

maybe it's the quebec in me and i'm just too used to commonlaw partnerships being normal but i just saw this instagram comment where the person was like why are you living with your girlfriend and not getting married it seems like you don't respect her which like ok so have you considered that not everyone wants to spend the money on a wedding and that being married is not a requirement for having a loving long term relationship

my lesbian SOUL asdfghjk i love the wlw firefighters!! i fear they would be unstoppable. the pining? immaculate. the only people that pine harder than a gay man is a gay woman. Both would be unable to tear their eyes from each others tiddies (not much different than canon). Both would consider the other their best friend but be extra EXTRA touchy because โ€œthatโ€™s just how their friendship is!โ€
they <3
if they were pining women in canon i fear we would get an actual uhaul plotline while they were still calling each other โ€œbest friendsโ€ fjfhdjsdhdh they would end up commonlaw married before they admitted their feelings for each other. they would make me UNHINGED

do you think that the boys had certain views on familial dynamics especially in childhood? they all grew up in the 1950s with super enforced and strict gender roles, but they were also teenagers when counterculture began to become mainstream. what are your thoughts?
Hey anon!
That depends on what exactly you mean by "certain views". You mention gender roles, so I am guessing you probably mean in terms of child-rearing and women being responsible for house and home?
Yes, to some degree all four of them would have had that sort of family dynamic in mind when they were young men. Don't get me wrong, I can't see any of them being the type to insist their girlfriend/wife doesn't work and *has* to stay home, while they don't lift a finger. Not at all. You might be surprised, but looking at a street interview from 1961, for example, most men already agree that they should in fact be helping out with the housework. At least on weekends, haha. But equally, consider that in 1982, 43% of fathers had never (never!) changed a nappy. (This number was down to 3% in 2000, by the way.) Some things, like whether men should so much as be present in the room during the birth of their own child was still somewhat controversial until the 90s. God, I remember, when I was a teen in early 2000 Robbie Williams jokingly compared watching his wife give birth to watching his favourite pub burn down (as in watching her vagina tear, lovely that). What I am saying is that I can't imagine the boys would not have held a fair few beliefs about gender roles that we now consider wildly outdated. Of course they would have.
Take Freddie, for example. I have seen people twist themselves into knots trying to explain why he would have called Mary his "commonlaw wife", saying that he must have said it to make the press believe he was straight, etc. But I think the truth is much simpler. In the time when Freddie was alive, same sex marriage was simply not a reality. It wasn't even a dream. I don't think Freddie could have fathomed, at the time, that there was any other kind of marriage but that between man and woman. He called her his commonlaw wife, thinking "if it were not for the fact that I like men, she would be my wife". And don't come at me about him calling Jim his husband. Of course he did, in the same way some gay guys will jokingly and flirtingly refer to their husbands and boyfriends as their "wife" sometimes nowadays. As in, something that person cannot actually be, but the sentiment is there.
Also, it's hard to say what the boys' position on things like the woman being the bread winner might have been because their girlfriends and wives had no chance to be that. The Queen boys were rock stars, and boy, were they winning the bread. Recording albums, busy schedules, off on tour for months. What could their partners and mothers of their children do but, well, stay home and mind the children?
I hope I answered your question to some extent, haha.
Thanks for the ask!
