How He Made You Feel
Tumblr media
Pairing: Jake Peralta x Reader
Premise: Right before the first sleepover of your romantic relationship, Jake puts a high school teacher behind bars for attempted sexual assault. The case brings up some difficult high school memories for you.
Warnings: mentions of sexual assault, mentions of sexual harassment, downplaying of sexual harassment
Word count: approx. 2,500
A/N: I'm back! Let me know in the comments if you want more Jake Peralta fics. (I'm not sure there's an audience for it.) Hope you enjoy! <3
Jake Peralta is the king of cinnamon buns. Eating the ones you bake, that is.
“This is like heaven on my tongue!” He moans. He licks some cream cheese frosting off the top. “Babe, these are seriously amazing.”
Your back relaxes. “Thanks, Jakey.”
Right after your shift at the 99th precinct, you zipped to your apartment to chill before the first sleepover of your romantic relationship (no pressure). Rather than chillaxing, your anxiety sparked, and kneading dough became the outlet. Your in-a-pinch cinnamon buns never fail to soothe your soul or anyone’s taste buds. Now that you’re in his kitchen, you’re grateful for the baking conniption. Jake’s indulgence gives you a moment to ground.
As he gulps down another bite, his eyebrow quirks. “Jakey?” He flashes that cheeky grin you love to hate.
Your face warms. “I never said that.”
“Nope! No take backs! It’s on the record!”
You scoff. “Aren’t you a little young for hearing loss?”
“Hey!” He pokes the edge of your forced frown. “You said it, and you know it, and it was adorable.”
Your heart beats in your ears. “You liked it?”
Jake’s eyes soften. “Yeah, I liked it.” He smirks mischievously. “And you’re getting all mushy on me.”
You roll your eyes. “Oh, please, Peralta.”
“I’ve got you wrapped around my finger.” He pokes your side.
You jerk away. “You don’t, and you know it.”
“If you say so! But I know what cutesy-nickname territory means.”
The buzz of his phone spares you from his ribbing. “Our DoorDash is here. I’m going to pick it up downstairs.” Jake slips on his slides.
“Kay. Thanks.”
He leans over his kitchen chair to kiss your cheek. “Course. BRB.”
Jake rushes out his apartment door. In his absence, you observe his place: the mopped kitchen tile, his clean olive green couch, his stash of beginner recipe books tucked on a shelf above a kitchen counter. When you first transferred to the 99, you couldn’t imagine Peralta had an inkling of an organized domestic in him.
Your tan trench coat hangs next to his leather NYPD jacket on the coat rack in the hall. Your heart palpitates. That was the first stitch of your domestic lives being sewn together. You wring your hands.
Jake doesn’t care about stains. You’ll eat Indian take-out from the container while watching some corny comedy he loves and you bemoan on his bare sofa. You tidy the kitchen table anyway.
The wave of anxiety begins to crest as you straighten junk mail from random magazines and political campaigns. You brush crumbs off the new placemats you forced on him through Office Secret Santa. (Weave placements are a recipe for soup-spill disasters.) You leave the manila files of cases he’s working on untouched off to the side.
You pour two tall glasses of water.  So what if you ordered drinks? Jake’s bloodstream will become half orange soda if someone doesn’t counteract his addiction.
Just as you’re setting the glasses down, there’s a knock on the door.
You jump. Your hand jerks, sending a manila folder flying to the floor, its confidential contents scattering behind the island on impact. Shit.
“Forgot my keys, babe!” Jake calls.
“Coming!”
Upon opening the door, a smiley Jake awaits you, holding a white cardboard box to his chest. The mouth watering aromas wafting from it don’t calm your cortisol levels.
His head tilts. “Why the long face?”
You step aside. “When you knocked, I jumped and slapped one of your files off the kitchen table. I’m sorry.”
His brow furrows. “It’s no problem.” He says, as if he doesn’t understand why you’re on edge.
“Everything spilled out.” You elaborate. Though you wouldn’t describe Jake as neat, he’s particular. Though the order of his files and notes are Greek to everyone else, it makes sense to him. He hates when someone “tidies” it without his permission.
Jake walks towards the kitchen. “Yeah, on the floor, not another dimension. It’s okay. Besides, it doesn’t need to be in any specific order– I closed that case today. I’m returning everything to the file room first thing.”
You trail behind him. “Did you close while I was uptown with Boyle?”
“Yep.” He plops the takeout box on the table. He kneels down to gather the rogue papers. “While you were out gathering evidence, I was cracking the code on this creep.”
Your eyebrows knit. “Sexual assault case?” You sort your take out into categories: his, hers, and shared.
Jake taps a stack of papers straight against a countertop. “Attempted.  And he was a fucking high school teacher. Luckily, it was all on security cam. Easy win.”
The styrofoam carton of lamb samosas trembles in your hand. “That’s upsetting.”
“Majorly. Sadly, he’ll probably get off easy. I mean it was attempted. Not that it should’ve been full-on assault or that what happened isn’t terrible–”
“I understand what you mean, Jake.” You assure. It’s how sex crimes go.
You open your potato samosa carton. “These are the bomb dot com,” you say. It’s an easy lay up for him.
“That ass is the bomb dot com!” Your chest loosens at the change of topic.
You shoot Jake a glare. He puts his hands up.
He picks up the last of stray papers as you grab plates and utensils.  When he’s done, he grabs the drink holder, your Pineapple Fanta and your pink lemonade each tucked in a cardboard slot. “Let’s go sit, m’lady.”
You reach for the drink holder with your free hand, but he twists his torso away. He nods towards the living room. “Relax. Pick a show. Remote’s on the coffee table.”
When Jake joins you on the couch, you immediately reach for your potato samosas.
“You weren’t kidding when you said those were your favorite.” Jake chuckles.
“Absolutely not. Try the lamb. They should be in the center– that’s the shared column.”
Jake affectionately rolls his eyes. “You treat life like an Excel spreadsheet.”
“Someone has to.” The cold condensation on your small pink lemonade chills your hand. “Hopefully, a detective would.”
He grabs his chest as if you struck him. “Your passive aggression is a stab to my heart!”
You pop open the container of jasmine rice. “What subject did that teacher teach?” You ask.
“The creeper?”
“Mhmm.”
Jake opens a container of chicken saagwala. “History.”
You hum disappointedly. “History teachers were always the coolest. Especially the male ones.” You stab your plastic fork into the rice and reach for the curry.
“Now I wish I slept less in history class.” Jake remarks.
You stare blankly at the coffee table as you spoon your (hopefully) extra spicy curry onto your plate.
The couch sighs as Jake sinks back into the cushions, his left arm stretching to lay behind you on the sofa’s back. “Such a scumbag. The girl was barely legal–could’ve been one of his own students. To make matters worse, she looked 16.”
In your head, you count your breaths. You zone in on the white grains of rice you’re absentmindedly pushing into your curry sauce.
You see your high school hallway. You remember the misery, the pressure. Mr. Johnston.
“You listening to me, babe?”
He taps your calf with the tip of his slide. You flinch.
“Sorry,” he says. Didn’t mean to startle you.”
“That’s alright.”
In your peripheral vision, he leans forward. “You okay?”
You nod. “I’m great.” You click on his TV. “Just got a bit lost in my thoughts for a second.”
You feel Jake studying your side profile.
You click on Netflix. “Let’s do something lighthearted.” You drop down to his My List. Thankfully, you don’t have to search long to find something passable.
“This one okay?” You ask. “I’ve been wanting to watch this too.”
“More than okay.”
The strings of the production company’s opening music fill the living room. You fiddle with your fork. Queasiness bites at you.
You need to shake this. This was your first sleepover with Jake. Don’t ruin this experience for yourself. It was so long ago. Nothing happened. It was uncomfortable, but you were alright. It was nowhere close to what that victim experienced. You’re fine. Is your asthma acting up?
You rest your plate on the coffee table. “Keep watching. I need the restroom real quick.”
You speed walk across the apartment to his bathroom, locking the door behind you. You turn the faucet to screeching cold. You dip your head into the basin and splash ice water in your face.
Your lungs gasp open from shock. Your brain drops back into your body.
Everything’s safe. You’re okay. Tonight will be great. Don’t let some creep going to trial rattle you like this and ruin the evening.
You find a clean towel in a drawer and dry your face. After taking a detour to his bathroom to toss it in his hamper, you take three final deep breaths, your hand over your heart.
You’re fine. Nothing’s happening.
You return to the couch with a soft smile. “Sorry, Jake.”
“No problem. You okay?” He asks again.
You hate lying to him. “Yeah, I just had to pee.”
The movie snaps back to action. Though you didn’t ask, he paused for you. As the film unfurls, as predicted, you poke fun at the plot and Jake ardently defends it. The banter warms you, but the knot in the pit of your stomach refuses to unfurl.
Once your plate is clean, you lay your head on Jake’s shoulder. As the leading actress does something you don’t register, Jake’s laughter ripples through your hollow chest.
It was so long ago. Nothing happened. It was uncomfortable, but you survived it. He never touched you. It was so long ago. He must be retired by now. It wasn’t your fault. There was nothing to be your fault. Nothing criminal happened. Nothing. It was so–
“(Y/N).”
You gasp. You snap up straight. The movie’s been paused.
“Sorry, I couldn’t get your attention.” Jake says gently.
Your heart sinks. “It’s…I’m just in my head.” You roughly run a hand through your hair. “So sorry.”
“You don’t need to apologize. What’s wrong?”
“It doesn’t matter.” You stare at your knees.
Jake intertwines his fingers with yours. “It’s definitely substantial for you to be distracted like this.” He squeezes your hand. “I’m here.”
You smile sadly. “I don’t want to bring the vibe down.”
“Acquiring (Y/N) lore rivals catching bad guys as my favorite thing to do. Telling me about your feelings could never bring the vibe down. ”
A courteous dismissal gets tangled in your throat. Is that really what you want to say?
Your free hand fiddles with the end of your hair. “I really don’t know how to talk about this.”
“Take all the time you need.”
You force a deep breath. “Your case threw me off.”
His eyebrows knit. “The teacher–creep one?”
You nod. “The teacher…you said he harassed a young woman who looked 16.”
He nods.
“It reminds me of an experience I had in high school when I was 17.”
His thumb strokes the back of your hand. “How so?” He asks gently.
“There was… this science teacher– Mr. Johnston. One semester, I had to walk by his classroom everyday. I had to walk from my homeroom on the opposite end of the school, so sometimes I would get there right after the bell rang. When I was alone, he would always offer to walk me to class…even though it was only a couple doors down from his.”
Jake nods.
“He said he was trying to make sure I didn’t get in trouble for tardiness…but he never told my teacher he walked me. And he did it even after he knew I wouldn’t get in trouble and that I was only going two doors down from his classroom.”
“That’s definitely weird.”
“He also used to do this weird thing where he would walk right behind me…I think it was supposed to be copying my walk to tease me. One day, he came up super close behind me– close enough to smell my perfume. All I could think about was how close to my ass he was.”
Anger cuts through Jake’s expression. “Did anyone see this?”
“Some other teachers did. They didn’t see anything wrong with it…they laughed it off everytime. I guess they saw it as a harmless joke. But, it made me really uncomfortable. Everyday I would pray that he wouldn’t say hi to me or be weird and would just let me walk to class. I figured maybe I was crazy, making something out of nothing, but it just felt wrong. At the time, I tried to block it out, I had other stressors to deal with…but right after I graduated, I reflected on it and other stories I heard about him…and I was creeped out.”
“(Y/N), I’m so sorry. Did you ever report this?”
“I confided in another teacher about it, but I never formally reported anything. I don’t know if he ever talked to his colleague about his behavior. Plus, I didn't think there was anything concrete to report.” You sigh. “It felt so wrong. I remember being so afraid of being alone in a room with him…he was a co-advisor for some extracurriculars I was a part of. There, he was always completely indifferent towards me but in those hallways in the morning…”
“With less people.” Jake notes. “And colleagues who didn’t take his behavior seriously.”
You nod.
“(Y/N), I’m so, so sorry. That isn’t okay.”
“I’m still not really sure if anything did happen to me. He didn’t touch me….he just…”
Jake shakes his head. “Followed you down hallways and got close to your body. That’s not okay.” He squeezes your hand again. “How did it make you feel?”
“Violated.” You admit.
Jake nods. “That’s what matters. How he made you feel matters. I’m so sorry that happened to you.”
Tears well in your eyes. “Thanks, Jake.”
Jake offers you a tissue. “Do you know what ever happened to that teacher?”
You wipe your eyes. “I believe he retired…not 100% sure.”
His face hardens. “I can track him down if you like.”
“No, Jake…there’s nothing to report. No evidence. Just a dead-end case of “he said she said” from over 10 years ago. Even if I reported it earlier, I doubt anything could have happened.”
Jake groans. “This sucks. I’m sorry for what you went through. No one should feel uncomfortable with a teacher at school. Jesus, every time I think I get what women go through, I learn it’s worse than I imagined. I’m so, so sorry.”
You dab your eyes. “Thank you for not belittling what happened to me. It’s great to have someone like you...you don't downplay what I feel."
He kisses your nose. “It’s part of my boyfriend duties; it’s what I’m here for.”
You press a tender kiss to his lips. “Thank you for being a safe space to talk.”
He returns the peck. “Forever and always.”
Jake Peralta is a goofball. He can be messy– both literally and figuratively. But at the core of it all was a mensch’s heart.

Hey Shan!! IDK if you're planning to do a BL wrap up or superlatives or anything like that this year so this question might be a bit too early but um...what has been a few of your favorite first watches for 2024 bls?
Hi Eboni! This is actually pretty good timing for a list because most of the shows that will end within 2024 are already over! The only two I could see maybe making my list that have not ended yet are Love is Like a Poison (Japan) and Blue Canvas of Youthful Days (China), so I'll mention them here (fingers crossed they end well and stay favs).
That said, here are my favorite completed BLs of 2024 (alpha order)!
At 25:00 in Akasaka (Japan, Gaga)
Tumblr media
Two actors who first met in college are cast in a bl together, old feelings resurface, and the lines between their professional and private lives start to blur. This show is super beautiful and moody.
Cooking Crush (Thailand, YouTube or WeTV for uncut)
Tumblr media
Ten and Prem are my favorite of OffGun's many couples. Ten is a med student with food issues who wants to learn how to cook, and Prem is a chef in training. Their romance is super sweet and I also really like the side couple and friend groups in this one.
Cherry Magic Thailand (Thailand, YouTube or Viu, requires VPN)
Tumblr media
I still can't believe this show happened. How on earth did GMMTV manage to make a superior version of Cherry Magic?? Tay Tawan had a lot to do with it, along with a very smart adaptation. It's so sweet and funny and perfect (if you just pretend ep 8 doesn't exist).
City of Stars (Thailand, iQIYI)
Tumblr media
I was surprised by how much I liked this charming little Thai pulp. It had an interesting story with strong writing and the pair was very good together. More people should watch it!
I Became the Main Role of a BL Drama (Japan, Gaga)
Tumblr media
This is a short and sweet and note perfect BL comedy about two actors falling for each other while making a BL. Loaded with meta jokes about the industry and stan culture and very loving about it.
Knock Knock Boys (Thailand, Gaga)
Tumblr media
I am obsessed with this excellent Thai BL that not nearly enough people watched. Two couples, both compelling and sexy and fun, and amazing friendship dynamics. I want everyone to watch it!
Let Free the Curse of Taekwondo (S Korea, iQIYI)
Tumblr media
My top BL of the year. It's a second chance romance, you see the characters both in high school and later as adults and I don't really want to spoil anything else about it. It's beautiful, the characters are so compelling, and the story is masterfully told.
Love for Love's Sake (S Korea, iQIYI)
Tumblr media
This one is special and quite unique, and I also don't want to spoil much about it! It begins with a basic isekai set up that then goes to some unexpected places. Really, really beautiful show.
Love Sea (Thailand, iQIYI)
Tumblr media
Definitely my favorite spicy romance of the year. I really loved a lot about the story for this one, in particular the class dynamics that defined the characters and their relationship, and Mahasamut (played by Fort) is on my list of favorite drama characters this year.
Marahuyo Project (Philippines, YouTube)
Tumblr media
We didn't get much from the Philippines this year, but they did drop one absolute banger in this show about a fierce and proud gay kid who gets booted out of school in Manila and sent to live with his grandma and mother on a small island. He makes friends and enemies and starts an LGBTQ+ club, and falls in love along the way.
Mr Mitsuya's Planned Feeding (Japan, fansub)
Tumblr media
An excellent age gap romance about a young editor and the chef who writes for his magazine making food together and falling in love. Lots of fun side characters, too. I loved every minute of this show.
Perfect Propose (Japan, Gaga)
Tumblr media
Two old friends meet when one of them is in need of housing and one is on the verge of a nervous breakdown from a soul-sucking corporate job, and help each other heal. This one is short and sweet.
Ossan's Love Returns (Japan, Gaga)
Tumblr media
This one is technically a sequel, but you can enjoy it without having seen the original (and might like it better that way, tbh). One of the funniest shows of the year and featuring a main couple that is a personal fav and are now on my ride or die list.
Takara's Treasure (Japan, Gaga)
Tumblr media
This one is a simple story but so, so sweet. A cute little bean follows his mysterious idol to university and joins the hiking club to get to know him better. They get to know each other slowly and fall in love.
Unknown (Taiwan, Viki)
Tumblr media
ALMOST my favorite bl of the year, but we had a few issues on the back end. Despite that, I still loved it a whole lot. A family drama and a love story about two chosen brothers whose relationship changes over time. Easily the best BL Taiwan made this year.
Looking at this list, I am realizing how absolutely invaluable my Gaga and iQIYI subscriptions have become; it's where nearly all my favorite BL is airing.

PSA: Marahuyo Project just started!
The director of Gaya Sa Pelikula is back with a new BL about a gay kid who gets expelled from his school in Manila for talking back to his homophobic dean and shipped off by his father to his mother and grandma in Marahuyo to finish high school, where he decides to start an LGBTQIA+ group despite everyone telling him it'll be impossible in this small town that is very invested in its traditions.
This show starts so strong with a short history of queerness in the Philippines pre-and post-colonization, anti-capitalist conversations, queer allyship between gay and trans characters, a supportive grandma, what I'm pretty sure is pining bestie lesbians, some great romance tropes (love an anonymous letter!), and some great comedy, often interspersed with the romantic moments. It feels very self-assured. It also has beautiful colour grading and cinematography, good sound quality, and a great OST.
It has been too long since a solid Filippino BL has aired, and I have missed them so much!
The first two episodes were excellent; I'm pretty sure there are 8 total, but I don't know yet what the release schedule is.
Watch the first two episodes now on Anima Studios' YouTube channel.

The Cat and Dog Game [Chapter 4]
Tumblr media
Genre: Romance, Fluff, Comedy
Pairing: Yunho x Reader (y/n)
Characters: Chef!Reader, RestaurantOwner!Yunho, MaitreD!Hongjoong, Waiter!Yeosang, Waiter!San, Waiter!Mingi, SousChef!Seonghwa, SousChef!Wooyoung, PrepChef!Jongho
Summary: Yunho's dream was to open and run his own restaurant. But he doesn't know anything when it comes to cooking. Until you came along and accepted the job, bringing with you a small crew. How will the black cat tame the energetic golden retriever?
Word count: 3.2K
You were half asleep on Seonghwa's shoulder, on the way to the restaurant. Jongho was the designated driver for today, going around to pick everyone up before going to the restaurant.
"So, did you have fun last night? Getting to know the owner?" Wooyoung turned around from the passenger seat with a teasing smile. You shot him a weird look while Seonghwa kicked the back of his seat.
"I know you're older, hyung. But I will kick you out if you do that to my car again." Jongho threatened as he drove.
"We're here." He parked the car. You got out, pulling your hood up tiredly. Seonghwa quietly strolled beside you, his arms tucked into his coat pockets.
"Yunho gave me the passcode." You yawned and keyed in the passcode.
"He's not coming?" Seonghwa asked.
"Not this early. He looked tired yesterday and stressed out after trying to help me with the prep. Anyway, it'll be much faster with just 4 of us doing the prep and baking." You shrugged, opening the door.
"What did you guys make yesterday?" Wooyoung tilted his head while Jongho turned the lights on.
"Blackberry apple tuile in the dehydrator, made the shortcrust pastry for the tartlets and marinated the pork medalions for dinner service." You informed. All of you hung your coats up in the small storage room and got to work right away. With aprons on and tools laid out, you all knew what to do immediately.
"State what you're taking on so we can keep track of things." You called out, a sharpie in hand and a piece of paper in front of you.
"I'll get started on the red velvet cake batter so we can get it in the ovens and cooled in time for icing." Jongho said, heading into the walk in with a big bowl to gather ingredients.
"Guess that leaves me on the palmiers first." Wooyoung pulled his sleeves up.
"Shall I do the cheesecake?" Seonghwa asked. You nodded and crossed out the item on the list.
"I'll continue with the tartlets then. Speak up if you need help." You retrieved the base dough from the fridge and the mini tart shells to begin blind baking them.
When Yunho came in, about an hour after you, with Mingi, Hongjoong, Yeosang and San, they were all greeted with the amazing smell of sugar, butter and vanilla filling up the restaurant space.
"Damn, I'm hungry." Mingi said.
"I need them to sign the contracts." Yunho walked in with the manila folder tucked under his arm. The boys, except Hongjoong, curiously followed behind him, wanting to catch a glimpse of the crew that was behind the amazing smells.
"Good morning!" Yunho smiled. All 4 of you turned to the group at the door with acknowledging nods before focusing back on your own tasks in front of you.
"Sorry to interrupt. I have the contracts for all of you to sign." He cleared his throat.
"Sure." You all stopped momentarily to gather.
There was a moment of silence as the 4 of you read through the contract that Yunho gave out. Meanwhile, the other boys with Yunho were staring at you, the way you exuded coolness.
"Here's a pen." Yunho held out the pen to you. You were the first to sign. After that, Seonghwa, Wooyoung and Jongho followed suit.
Just like that, you handed the contracts back to Yunho and broke apart to your own areas of the kitchen.
"Yunho." You stopped the owner in his tracks. You nodded over to the main prep table in the middle and he walked over, tilting his head curiously. The other boys stood behind him. There was a tray that you brought over, with some red-purplish stuff on it. You lifted a piece to Yunho.
"Thank you but what is this?" He bowed his head gratefully but was still confused. You gestured for him to take a bite. He did and his eyes widened with excitement.
"Is this what we made yesterday?!" He beamed.
"Yes. Blackberry, apple tuile with thyme." You said. Yunho held the small piece between his fingers, like it was a piece of gold.
"Wow. I helped make this." He said in awe. You hummed, amused at how stunned Yunho was.
Yunho took your appearance in. You weren't just wearing an apron like yesterday, there were tweezers sticking out of pockets, a timer clipped to your sleeve and two towels hanging on the string.
"I'm (y/n). That's Seonghwa, Wooyoung and Jongho." You suddenly spoke, pointing to each person on your team that was busy.
"I'm Mingi. This is San and Yeosang." The other tall guy introduced. You figured they would be the wait staff.
"Excuse me. Hot tray coming through." Wooyoung said, taking a tray of palmiers out from the oven. The boys shrunk back behind Yunho, jumping out of the way. You turned back to focus on your tartlets, making the custard that will go under the strawberries.
"We'll be out of your way." Yunho quickly said, ushering his friends out. They were disappointed they were not offered any samples of food like Yunho was.
"My cakes are still in the oven but shall I start on the madeleines? We'll put them in once we have oven space." Jongho asked.
"Yes. Are you done with the cheesecakes, Hwa?"
"They're in the oven. I'm open now, do you need help with the tartlet assembly?" He walked over, drying his hands. You nodded and he laid everything out for you.
"Make the gelatin glaze?" You requested. It will be tart shell, with a thin layer of strawberry jam at the bottom, then vanilla custard over the top and a mix of fresh strawberries and basil on the top.
"Last batch of palmiers in." Wooyoung announced.
"Get started on the yuzu loaves please. We need them cooled for the drizzle." You replied. He gave a thumbs up. Meanwhile, San and Mingi have been peeking in, they were both mesmerised by the way you worked with your team. Mingi's parents owned a restaurant but he had never seen people who this way in a kitchen before.
"You two! We need to start setting up before opening." Hongjoong grabbed them by the back of their necks to drag them to the front counter where Yunho was.
"I'll be on coffee." Mingi said.
"I'll help you with that." San raised his hand. Hongjoong would be managing the cashier while Yeosang will serve customers.
"Yunho should float, introduce yourself as the owern." Hongjoong suggested. The others nodded in agreement and Yunho hummed. Soon, the doors will be open and people will be here.
"Sorry to interrupt but we've decided not to serve this first yuzu loaf since it is a little lopsided." You said.
"What she means is, you guys can have it for breakfast before opening." Seonghwa clarified. The 5 boys immediately bowed.
"It smells so good." Mingi said in awe.
"Enjoy." You and Seonghwa went back to the kitchen to continue. The 5 boys crowded the yuzu loaf like vultures, digging into it with forks. They didn't even bother cutting into it to portion out, they went straight for it.
"Oh my god... It's so good." San melted.
"Where did you find these people? This is amazing!" Yeosang said, eyes wide in surprise on the taste.
"Not me, Hongjoong hyung." Yunho chewed his food. Hongjoong smirked proudly. They didn't realise that you were watching them in amusement, especially when they fought over the last piece.
"What are you watching?" Jongho tilted his head when he saw you loitering at the kitchen entrance.
"They're fighting for the last bit of Wooyoung's yuzu loaf. Like seagulls fighting for the last shrimp." You chuckled.
"You look like you're watching television." Wooyoung laughed.
"It feels like I am." You replied. You walked away to continue your task. Once the fresh strawberries were mixed with basil, you spooned them over the custard layer.
"Done. You can jelly glaze them." You told Seonghwa. He nodded and brushed over the gelatin mixture which will make the fruits look shiny and glossy. When each item was done, you put one piece of each item on a plate to bring it out. Most importantly, you wanted Yunho to try them to get his opinion.
"This is a piece of each item. You've had the yuzu loaf. This is lemon poppy seed madeleines, strawberry basil tartlets and palmiers. For the cakes, New York cheesecake and red velvet." You explained.
"The yuzu loaf was super good, by the way." San smiled.
"I'll be sure to tell Wooyoung." You gave a nod. After that, you retreated back to the kitchen.
"Wait, strawberry basil? Like the thing on pizza?" Mingi blinked, realising one of the treats that you had just brought out to them. This time, Yeosang cut up each item.
"Oh my... Okay, this is my new favourite." Hongjoong covered his mouth as he chewed, pointing at the red velvet cake.
"This seashell cake things would go so well with coffee." Yunho said as he took a bite.
"Ah! Okay, let's quickly finish up and clear the counter. We're opening in 30 minutes." Yunho panicked, realising the time. His heart suddenly lurched and his stomach churned uncomfortably, he was getting too nervous and anxious.
"Let's do a final sweep." Yeosang and San grabbed the brooms to clean the floors while Mingi and Hongjoong went around to wipe the tables and chairs.
"I'm going to... get stuff." Yunho said to his friends and walked away. From the corner of your eye, you watched him cross the kitchen and enter the walk in fridge, closing the door behind him.
"Nervous?" Yunho jumped when you appeared. Your arms crossed and your eyebrows raised.
"Yeah... It's finally happening... And I just don't want it to fail." He hung his head down, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Why do you think it will fail?" You cocked your head to the side. The stoic look on your face made Yunho confused on whether you were asking a rhetoric or not.
"It's my first time doing this, clearly I've not been the efficient restaurant owner. I was supposed to do this with my grandmother. This was her dream. And if I waste it, I'll never forgive myself." He shook his head. There was a silence in the walk in fridge until Yunho heard you let out a soft sigh.
"You've said it yourself. This is your first time. It's a learning process and you'll still continue to learn. Your grandmother must have believed in you to give your this opportunity." You said.
"All that you have done, it is not a waste. What is a waste is you panicking here in the walk in when the place hasn't even opened yet."
"You're right..." Yunho nodded.
"Don't scare yourself with the negatives of what can go wrong. Go in with a fresh, open mind, be excited for what can happen and the positives." You advised.
"Thank you, (y/n)! I'll go out now and open." Yunho grinned happily and ran out. You walked out.
"What?" You blinked, seeing the 3 boys staring at you.
"Naughty (y/n). With the boss? On day 1? In the walk in?!" Wooyoung teased with gasps. You rolled your eyes, throwing your tea towel at him as you went back to your station.
"Are you good?" Seonghwa asked softly, coming to stand next to you. You looked up at him and nodded. He pulled you in to gently stroke your head. You all finished up the rest of the cafe confectionaries, getting some extras ready in case they sell out.
"Take a small break everyone. Get a drink, we can observe the cafe opening. Then we'll start cleaning and discuss dinner service." You instructed.
"Okay." The 3 replied, putting all their used dishes together to clean later on. Wooyoung and Jongho went out to get coffee at the front of the house, where Mingi and San were.
"Want a drink that's not coffee? They have ades." You laughed.
"Sure." Seonghwa walked out with you. You were just in time to see Yunho open the doors and flip the sign to open.
You watched with a small smile, Yunho grinned as he greeted the first customer that was already in the queue. There wasn't a large queue but people must have been curious seeing the posters around.
"Here." Jongho handed you a coffee.
"Thank you." You received it and took a sip. The boys went back into the kitchen first while you continued to linger around.
"Sorry, can I make a drink for Seonghwa? He doesn't drink coffee." You asked.
"Of course. Want us to make something?" San offered. You shook your head, grabbing a glass and whatever you needed. You didn't want to break their momentum when orders were already starting to come in from customers. After mixing a drink for Seonghwa, you moved out of their way.
"Here, Hwa. I mixed the tropical fruits and topped it up with soda." You handed the glass to him.
"Thanks." He patted your head and took a sip before continuing his cleaning. There were two sinks so you all just took turns cleaning up. While waiting your turn, you wiped down your station.
"I'm craving a reuben." Seonghwa said.
"Reuben? Nah, monte cristo for me." Wooyoung laughed.
"What's with both of you craving sandwiches all of a sudden?" You scoffed while rolling your eyes.
"Basically they want to make ham and salt beef for our next cooking get together." Jongho spoke, going to keep the leftover ingredients in the walk in.
"It has been so long since we've made those two things... I don't know if I remember how to..." You scratched your head.
"Liar." All 3 boys coughed.
"You know what? You make your own ham and you, make your own salt beef." You glared at them. Wooyoung dried his hands while laughing, coming over to hug your arm.
"My precious (y/n), you've made things so many things more complex than ham and salt beef that you saying you've forgotten how to make it is a joke. You aren't fooling anyone, especially any one of us." Wooyoung pinched your cheeks.
You swatted his hands away and went out to see how the cafe was doing. Most of the tables were filled, with customers enjoying the drinks and food.
"Oh, (y/n)!" Yunho jumped when he turned around and almost bumped into you.
"I didn't think so many people would show up." He said. You hummed, nodding your head as you continued to look around.
"The confectionaries are moving fast. Everyone likes all of them." He blurted out with a big grin. Honestly, Yunho had to urge to hug you and thank you for helping him at the start, in the walk in.
"Told you. Worried for nothing." You looked up at him but your face didn't show that you were teasing or making fun of him for his nerves earlier.
"You were right." He nodded in agreement with a shy smile.
"Umm, excuse me." A customer stood at the counter and you nodded over for Yunho to go. He went to attend to the customer while you went back into the kitchen.
"Ah! I need a break." Mingi complained as he entered after you.
"It's only been an hour." Jongho stated.
"Let's discuss our dinner menu and break for the day." You said as the 3 gathered around you at the kitchen island, ignoring Mingi. But Mingi stuck around, curious to listen in.
"Let's do the pork tenderloin medallions with cherry madeira sauce. I'm not sure how the crowd will be so let's not accompany it with the risotto this time since those are cooked to order. We'll do a parsnip puree as the starch component. Then a roast chicken with gochujang butter under the skin." You said.
"What's the starch for the chicken?" Seonghwa asked.
"We should do mixed roast vegetables. They can sit under the chicken as the trivet and they'll roast in the chicken fat- butter mixture." Wooyoung suggested.
"For seafood, we'll do a cioppino with crusty bread? We got some shellfish and we'll cook that with the monkfish." You said.
"I think we should have a pasta option." Jongho voiced out.
"Let's do miso butter tagliatelle with mixed mushrooms and borttarga." Seonghwa decided. The rest of you nodded then discussed some simple appetisers to make.
"Two desserts. One light, one heavy." You told them,
"I would say we do something simple. Panna cotta with raspberry coolis. Then bukkumi with makgeolli ice cream." Jongho suggested.
"That's a good idea. One western and one korean dessert." Wooyoung agreed. You hummed and wrote it down on the paper. Mingi quietly left the kitchen.
"What's with that look?" Hongjoong asked him when he came out.
"I just listened in on the kitchen team plan tonight's dinner menu. Like wow, I want one of everything they're preparing. It all sounds so good and amazing." Mingi said, star stuck like he had just witnessed greatness or a celebrity.
"Get back to work. There are customers that need service." Yeosang waved everyone back to their stations. Wooyoung came out.
"Yunho? Do you have time for us to quickly discuss the dinner menu before we leave for the afternoon?" He asked.
"Yeah, I'm coming." Yunho nodded and left Hongjoong to the cashier as he entered the kitchen. When he entered, he immediately noticed you weren't there. He wanted to ask where you went.
"This is what our team discussed earlier." Jongho handed Yunho the paper where you had been scribbling on earlier with sharpie.
"Sorry, you might need to explain all this to me." He apologised with a sheepish smile.
"Sure." Wooyoung, Jongho and Seonghwa explained all the dishes to him, the components, how they will be cooked, etc. However, Yunho was slightly distracted by where you were.
You were actually standing outside in the cold, taking in some fresh air. After a stint of cooking, you usually wanted to get some fresh air on your own with peace and quiet, away from the busy kitchen. That's why the 3 usually let you be and gave you the space that you wanted, for as long as you needed.
He wondered if you were okay. But if your friends were not worried, Yunho shouldn't be.
"I'm ready. Let's go when you're done." You poked your head in to tell the boys and left without acknowledging Yunho. To be honest, you didn't even see him.
"Thank you for coming in so early. I'll see you all tonight." Yunho bowed to them.
"No problem." Seonghwa smiled.
"See you." Wooyoung said and the 3 bowed before exiting the restaurant. Yunho watched from the window as you waited for them by Jongho's car. Seonghwa wrapped an arm around you.
"I'm tired." You leaned against him, mumbling like a grumpy toddler.
"Yes, let's all get some sleep. We have a long dinner service ahead of us." Seonghwa chuckled and ushered all of you into the car.

This is the Christmas Station ID of TV5 in 2014. The Christmas Station ID is themed “Krismas Mas Mas Masaya”
The Christmas Station ID theme song was sung by Filipino OPM singer and songwriter Regine Velasquez featuring OPM group Gimme 5 who are the backing vocals.
The Christmas Station ID is led by Vice Ganda, Empoy Marquez, Coco Martin and Zoren Legaspi who are known as "The Taros Comedy Crew" from the TV5 sketch comedy show Banana Split. They are the genderbend versions of Arcee Muñoz, Ritz Azul, Alice Dixson and Eula Caballero who are the original cast members of Banana Split featuring Imee Hart, Iwa Moto and Sugar Mercado. But now the Taros Comedy crew is now a band consisting of Vice Ganda as the drummer, Empoy Marquez as the bassist, Coco Martin as the keyboardist or the keytarist and Zoren Legaspi as the guitarist. They resemble as “The Wiggles” but are more crazy than The Fresh Beat Band from Disney and the Imagination Movers from Nick Jr. The Christmas Station ID features Liza Soberano, JC de Vera, Sef Cadayona, Dion Ignacio, Gerald Anderson, Edgar Allan Guzman, Ivan Mayrina, Carmina Villaroel, Eugene Domingo, Nora Aunor, and special guests from ABS-CBN in the 2000’s like Gelli de Belen, DingDong Dantes, Neil Ryan Sese, RK Bagatsing and twin sisters Anne Curtis and Jasmine Curtis-Smith. The Christmas Station ID includes Kermit the Frog, Elmo and Big Bird from the Muppets who are created by Jim Henson and Frozen actors Will Smith, Robert de Niro and Freddy Highmore. The Christmas Station ID also features Enrique Gil at the beginning when he sets up the Christmas Lights in the TV5 Media Center while he was depressed.
The Christmas Station ID was recorded at the TV5 Media Center in Mandaluyong, Manila in November 1, 2014. However, Some of the clips are re-used in the deleted songs of DMX in the 2002 movie Frozen and Dr. Dre from Disney's Blues Clues.
The Christmas Station ID will be re-used in 2015 with the new theme “Happy Ka Dito Ngayon Pasko!” but with minor changes and an explosion at the very end.

V.I.P.
As a leading institution of interdisciplinary excellence, the Vanda International Phrontistery (VIP) in Manila, established 2050 and publicized 2075, gleams brilliantly in the eyes of any parent wishing only the best of the best for their children when it comes to education. It offers not just high-class facilities and curricula for the first twelve grades, but also a diverse selection of courses, programs and workshops for the years after that, making it the marble castle academy of Asia and beyond.
Tumblr media
But unbeknownst to the teaching and maintenance staff, within VIP's walls is a secret second world that's painstakingly maintained by the students, particularly from the Years 9 and up. From clubs arise cliques, and these cliques, with their ambitions and enmities, run the second world on a ladder with rungs so easily swapped and replaced. When classes are over, the school becomes a hotbed of social power struggles and gossip, so it's frankly no surprise that everyone seems to want to one-up each other all the damn time.
And with AY 2089-2090 rolling in, clique tensions are now at an all-time high with the arrival of a fresh and fishy bunch: the fringe thinkers of the Crimson Tide. Their ideas of an "ideal society" rub many the wrong way, and even the professors are concerned.
Frankly? Keedan Riqueza could care less. She's just entered Year 9, and an avalanche of homework is much more preferable than dealing with her eldest sister's Aureate bullshit and the pressure of joining the competition for her crown with her other sisters. But when she inevitably gets caught in the crossfire one evening, it looks like she's got no other choice than to play into the clique scene.
Problem is: where will she ultimately end up by the time she graduates from Year 12?

Book Blurb:
A sweet and spicy multicultural romantic comedy that that blends the rich tapestry of Filipino courtship rituals with the modern complexities of love, family, and cultural expectations, written by #1 New York Times bestselling author Melissa de la Cruz.
Evan Saatchi can’t keep his eyes off his new co-worker, Dalisay Ramos.
Newly arrived from Manila to lead their travel app’s Asia division, nothing matters more to Dalisay than tradition and family. When Evan asks her out, she soundly rejects him for his cheek.
Evan learns from his Filipino friends that Dalisay expects more from potential suitors. If he wants a chance with her, he’s going to have to go through the Five Stages: the courtship ritual that lovers in the Philippines have performed for generations.
At first, Evan is skeptical—what, exactly, does “servitude” entail? And he has to sing?! But when Dalisay bets Evan that he doesn’t have the nerve to make it through the stages, the game is on.
As Evan attempts to prove to Dalisay that he can win her heart—and the bet—Dalisay is driven to distraction by Evan’s sexy labors, and soon their “courtship” turns into a sizzling secret.
But when modern love and family expectations collide, Dalisay and Evan must find a way to carry a rich history into a shared future.
Featuring a memorable cast of characters navigating the intersection of cultural traditions, workplace dynamics, and the magic of true love, this heart-warming Asian American romance is perfect for fans of Kevin Kwan books, Red String Theory, and other voicey Asian American authors. Melissa de la Cruz thoughtfully explores the push and pull of contemporary desires and deep-rooted familial expectations, all set against the backdrop of a will-they-won’t-they workplace romance that will leave readers swooning.
Review:
Two coworkers begin an unlikely bet: if Evan Saatchi can complete the Filipino courtship practice of "the five stages" then he can win a date with Dalisay Ramos. It's insta love for Evan and Dalisay when they first meet at work... until he asks her out and she hard rejects him expecting him to court her through the Five Stages. Evan has never heard of that but Dalisay is a new hire from the Philippines and she does not want to date the American way, she wants the courtship, she wants the fairytale experience her parents had, and despite liking Evan, she wants him to properly court her. Evan can't resist a bet and he definitely would like a date from Dalisay... if only he could figure out the five stages and how to get her to say yes. This started off fun but then kind of fell completely flat for me. I really didn't see the chemistry between Dalisay and Evan, and unfortunately I really did not like either character all that much. The romance just didn't feel there for me and while I do appreciate getting to learn new cultures and traditions and having a cute side cast of characters, when your main characters are actually lacking a good story and real emotional depth, it kind of makes the read a bit lackluster. While this book was a miss for me, if you would like to try reading a book with two individuals from different cultures trying at romance, then I'd say give it a go maybe you'll have a better time with it than I did.
Release Date: July 9,2024
