“Moving Forward XIII”  New never seen photos of Johnny were shared by Pantheon Art on their official site.

> When it was taken?

Although was not said when it was taken, it seems that it was originally taken sometime between October and early November 2020, while still in London, sometime while filming for the “Fantastic Beasts 3” or after being forced to quit from his role as Gellert Grindelwald. That’s why we still see him with blond hair and mustache and painted nails of the same color we saw on November 11 and 13, during his three-day deposition in Reston, Virginia, USA. 

Three photos can be found on the site: One for mobiles, the original with no edition which was replaced later by the one edited focusing only in Johnny.

> About Johnny’s collaboration:

“New art has been developed with Johnny Depp as a prelude to the ‘Character Beyond Celebrity’ collection. Johnny has chosen to donate his entire proceeds from the sale of these artworks to charity” ~ Pantheon Art. 

 The UNIQUE painting was created by the British artist Preston Jones, who has worked several times with Johnny to raise awareness and funds for major charities. Titled “Moving Forward XIII”, it was created in 2020 in Lascaux acrylic paint, 16 silkscreen layers and halftone on hand laid 12ct white gold leaf. Paper: St. Cuthbert’s Waterford (NOT) 640gsm handmade 100% cotton rag. It measures 85 x 85 cm. (33.5 x 33.5 inches.)  According to the “Artnet.com” this painting was already SOLD. It seems that the unframed coasted £3000 ($4180) while framed £3750 ($5230)

The painting was also autographed by Johnny in a blue marker pen.

 - Description of the art by Preston Jones:

“The stimulus for this work was a photograph directed by Johnny, working with his longtime friend the photographer Ross Halfin. Standing strong, leaning forwards, with his eyes firmly fixed on the horizon, the image gives human shape to his creed, 'Just keep moving forward and don’t give a shit about what anyone thinks. Do what you have to do for you.' Characteristically bedecked in his favourite colour, black, with a cap, scarf and guitar strap, Johnny is instantly recognizable. The layers of his  ‘costume' are a visible signature of his style of dressing; and maybe a way to draw attention to his clothes rather than to himself. He’s famous for not enjoying the adulation that comes with being a Hollywood star. He considers himself shy, and highly values his privacy. That’s visible in the art. He’s focused on his own thoughts and not playing to any audience.”

Along this that was sold, it seems that there are at least two others based on “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” and another based on “Dior Sauvage” and probable a video of the moment Johnny was autographing. But some people on Instagram and Twitter have been relating that the Pantheon Art was asking them to delete their posts because “the project has not been launched yet”… Ok. But the image was sold, and Johnny’s photo is already on the site… So...

Antoine Dominique Domino Jr. (known as Fats Domino) was born on February 26, 1928. He was an American pianist and singer-songwriter. One of the pioneers of rock and roll music, Domino sold more than 65 million records.

Between 1955 and 1960, he had eleven Top 10 US pop hits. By 1955 five of his records had sold more than a million copies, being certified gold. The Associated Press estimates that during his career, the artist "sold more than 110 million records and the Grammy organization states that Domino landed 37 songs in the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 throughout his career, including 11 that peaked inside the Top 10".

His humility and shyness may be one reason his contribution to the genre has been overlooked. The significance of his work was great however; Elvis Presley declared Domino to be "the real king of rock ‘n’ roll" and once announced that Domino "was a huge influence on me when I started out".

Four of Domino's records were named to the Grammy Hall of Fame for their significance: "Blueberry Hill", "Ain't It A Shame", "Walking to New Orleans" and "The Fat Man". "The Fat Man" "is cited by some historians as the first rock and roll single and the first to sell more than 1 million copies".

Domino was one of the biggest stars of rock and roll in the 1950s and one of the first R&B artists to gain popularity with white audiences. His biographer Rick Coleman argues that Domino's records and tours with rock-and-roll shows in that decade, bringing together black and white youths in a shared appreciation of his music, was a factor in the breakdown of racial segregation in the United States. The artist himself did not define his work as rock and roll, saying, "It wasn't anything but the same rhythm and blues I'd been playin' down in New Orleans."

Domino was also an important influence on the music of the 1960s and 1970s and was acknowledged as such by some of the top artists of that era. Elvis Presley introduced Fats at one of his Las Vegas concerts, saying, "This gentleman was a huge influence on me when I started out." Presley also made this comment in a 1957 interview: "A lot of people seem to think I started this business. But rock 'n' roll was here a long time before I came along. Nobody can sing that music like colored people. Let's face it: I can't sing it like Fats Domino can. I know that."

Both John Lennon and Paul McCartney recorded Domino songs. According to some reports, McCartney wrote the Beatles song "Lady Madonna" in emulation of Domino's style, combining it with a nod to Humphrey Lyttelton's 1956 hit "Bad Penny Blues". Domino also recorded the song in 1968. Domino returned to the "Hot 100" chart for the last time in 1968, with his recording of "Lady Madonna". That recording, as well as covers of two other songs by the Beatles, appeared on his Reprise album Fats Is Back, produced by Richard Perry and with several hits recorded by a band that included the New Orleans pianist James Booker.

Domino was present in the audience of 2,200 people at Elvis Presley's first concert at the Las Vegas Hilton on July 31, 1969. At a press conference after the show, when a journalist referred to Presley as "The King", Presley gestured toward Domino, who was taking in the scene. "No," Presley said, "that's the real king of rock and roll." About a photograph made of him and Elvis together, Mr. Domino said: "Elvis told me he flopped the first time he came to Las Vegas. Domino received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1987.

John Lennon covered Domino's composition "Ain't That a Shame" on his 1975 album "Rock 'n' Roll," his tribute to the musicians who had influenced him.

American band Cheap Trick recorded "Ain't That a Shame" on their 1978 live album Cheap Trick at Budokan and released it as the second single from the album. It reached 35 of the Billboard Hot 100. Reportedly, this was Domino's favorite cover. It remains a staple of their live performances, including at their 25th Anniversary concert (which was recorded as the album and DVD Silver) and at their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.

The Jamaican reggae artist Yellowman covered many songs by Domino, including "Be My Guest" and "Blueberry Hill."

Jah Wobble, a post-punk bassist best known for his work with Johnny Rotten, released a solo recording of "Blueberry Hill".

The Jamaican ska band Justin Hinds and the Dominoes, formed in the 1960s, was named after Domino, Hinds's favorite singer.

In 2007, various artists came together for a tribute to Domino, recording a live session containing only his songs. Musicians performing on the album, Goin' Home: A Tribute to Fats Domino, included Paul McCartney, Norah Jones, Willie Nelson, Neil Young, and Elton John.

According to Richie Unterberger, writing for AllMusic, Domino was one of the most consistent artists of early rock music, the best-selling African-American rock-and-roll star of the 1950s, and the most popular singer of the "classic" New Orleans rhythm and blues style. His million-selling debut single, "The Fat Man" (1949), is one of many that have been cited as the first rock and roll record. Robert Christgau wrote that Domino was "the most widely liked rock and roller of the '50s" and remarked on his influence:

Warm and unthreatening even by the intensely congenial standards of New Orleans, he's remembered with fond condescension as significantly less innovative than his uncommercial compatriots Professor Longhair and James Booker. But though his bouncy boogie-woogie piano and easy Creole gait were generically Ninth Ward, they defined a pop-friendly second-line beat that nobody knew was there before he and Dave Bartholomew created 'The Fat Man' in 1949. In short, this shy, deferential, uncharismatic man invented New Orleans rock and roll.

Domino's rhythm, accentuating the offbeat, as in the song "Be My Guest", was an influence on ska music.

Domino died on October 24, 2017, at his home in Harvey, Louisiana, at the age of 89, from natural causes, according to the coroner's office.

On June 25, 2019, The New York Times Magazine listed Fats Domino among hundreds of artists whose material was reportedly destroyed in the 2008 Universal fire.

Behind the Scenes: Sierra’s birthday party

Last week I showed you pictures from Sierra’s 11th birthday party. The theme was Aliens, Ghosts, and Cryptids, and I went all out to give her the party of her dreams. They played games, shared gifts, and had a rose gold birthday cake. I used a lot of props for this post, most of which were handmade. 

After the cut, I’ll explain how I made the decorations, party favors, and gifts, for those of you who like to craft for your dolls and want to make the same props. Or at least it might inspire you to make something else entirely, and maybe it will give you some ideas for the upcoming October photo challenge!

The alien eyeglasses are printouts of some images I found by doing an image search. Two of the pairs have rigid clear plastic glued onto them to make them more durable, and the others are just glued to cardstock.

Their antenna are made from painted clay that I rolled thinly and attached plastic googly eyes at the ends. The antennae are glued to cardstock headbands. The air dry clay I used is different than the baking soda and cornstarch clay that I usually use; here’s the recipe and instructions. 

Sierra’s Roswell shirt was made from a thrift store shirt that I cut down into doll-sized pieces. I used iron on transfer printer paper to iron the graphic onto it. Her sparkly blue skirt is made from a children’s skirt I also thrifted, and her stockings are from a baby onesie.

The posters are printed images, all of which I found on Pinterest. She’s standing in front of a piece of white foam core; I used straight pins to secure the posters to the walls.

Her invitation was a printout of one made from a template at PosterMyWall.com which has tons of poster templates just like this. I personalized the text, and added a fake street address and fake phone number at the bottom. The town of Arroyo Seco is real, but there is no Araña Mesa road. Araña is the Spanish word for spider.  

The Area 51 badges are also blank templates from Pinterest that I edited to add small pictures of each girl. I sort of laminated them by cutting rectangles from a plastic sandwich bag, spreading a very thin coat of Tacky glue onto it, and then pressing the badge onto the plastic and smoothing out all the wrinkles. They attach with straight pins. 

(Area 51, by the way, is nowhere near Roswell. Area 51 is north of Las Vegas, Nevada in the middle of absolutely nowhere. Roswell is a small city about 200 miles southeast of Santa Fe. The alleged crash didn’t even happen in Roswell, but on a rancher’s land 30 miles southeast of the very tiny town of Corona. The rancher who witnessed the crash went down to Roswell, about 100 miles away from Corona, to report what he had seen. Supposedly, the aliens alleged to be found at the crash site near Corona were transported 700 miles west to Area 51 in order to study them. That’s the only connection Area 51 and Roswell have. So there’s your history tidbit for the day!) 

The EMF meters are printed images glued onto small bits of foam core to make them easier to hold.

The alien specimen jars are baby food jars with their lids painted black. The specimens inside are painted air-dry clay, the same recipe I linked to above. To make the bright green liquid, I cut up a four-pack of highlighter pens from Dollar Tree and dumped the ink into some water. The jar in the middle still had a little bit of blue food coloring inside and so the liquid was accidentally turned dark green. 

The biohazard labels were printouts that I hot glued to the jars.

This variation of pin the tail on the donkey game starts with a piece of watercolor paper onto which I painted the Martian landscape and the night sky with acrylic paints. I can’t verify that this is exactly what nighttime on Mars looks like, but nothing else here is accurate anyway. The UFO is made from the bottom of an aluminum pie crust tin. (When I need this rigid aluminum for crafts, I just buy a graham cracker crust from the store and then dump the cracker crumbs into a fruit smoothie.) The alien is painted foam core. Luciana is a picture cut out from an American Girl catalogue. I pushed pins through them to hold them onto the background.

Sierra’s presents were my favorite to make. The Venus fly trap is that same air dry clay that’s been painted. The teeth on the fly traps are made from small pieces of straw and stuck onto the plant while the paint was still wet. The container is just some plastic cup I scavenged from somewhere. The compost is a loose leaf herbal tea that I bought a while back intending to drink it, but it tasted awful so it got put in the craft drawer instead to use for crafts.

The cactus is fabric filled with poly stuffing, and the soil is brown felt covering more stuffing in the mini flower pot. The blossom is yellow felt, glued onto the cactus.

Sierra’s smart watch is a printout of the screen of an Apple watch I think. It’s laminated with glued-on rigid plastic and the wrist band is gold glitter craft foam. I folded the box from card stock. 

Sierra’s beautiful poster is cut from a jigsaw puzzle box. The puzzle was missing too many pieces so I threw it out and kept the box. The heart sachet is made from red velvet, lace, and ribbon. It’s stuffed with a scoop of cinnamon-scented loose leaf tea. I made the Bigfoot slippers by tracing Sierra’s foot, cutting up and stitching together some brown felt, stuffing each toe with poly stuffing, then gluing on little bits of faux leather fabric for the toenails. There’s faux fur glued on around the foot openings.

Her two other gifts, a mini Luciana doll and some Calico Critters, obviously were not handmade. I wrapped the gifts in scrapbook paper.

And finally, the birthday cake!

I considered several ideas for how I would do this, ranging from painting some seat cushion foam to just baking a real cake and cutting out a piece. But I finally settled on using a scented candle container turned upside down and painted. I sprinkled it with gold glitter and then glued the candles on top. Hot glue just melts the wax but doesn’t make it adhere, so I had to bust out the super glue.

The candle inside was burned all the way down.

The birthday candles are real! I lit them just long enough to get a photo.

6 Savvy Summer Travel Solutions

I get so much joy in helping fellow travel-lovers solve annoying problems and otherwise make their travels easier and more enjoyable.

Toward this end, I’m indelibly on the lookout for noteworthy innovations that can resolve common annoyances and foster fun and functionality while getting from point A to point B. And, of course, I’m ever on alert for fabulous destinations that’ll proffer a pleasurable experience. Here are a few of my finds that fit the bill this summer season and beyond.

#1 - Southern California Hilton Hotels / The Magic Castle Partnership 

First is a truly amazing travel option for those traversing through Southern California this year. SoCal Hilton guests now have coveted access to the iconic Magic Castle in Los Angeles! This unique Hilton partnership allows hotels guests the privilege to experience one of the most extraordinary and exclusive clubs in the world, plus a highly sought-after fine-dining destination in LA. While access to The Magic Castle is typically available only to members and invited guests, for the first time through the 2019 calendar year guests staying at participating Hilton hotels will be able to dine and see world-class illusion at the regal, Edwardian-era mansion in historic Hollywood. In addition to dining and viewing a variety of magical styles in multiple theaters, guests can also explore the property and enjoy drinks at one of five bars, including the Owl Bar or the Hat and the Hare Pub. Magic Castle is the most-recent, elite Southern California partner secured by Hilton to curate unique local experiences for hotel guests. As part of the Hilton and Magic Castle partnership, patrons must book at least six weeks in advance of their preferred visit date.
