Cutter waved to her dad as she threw her hockey bag over her shoulder getting out of the car, she walked up to the hockey arena that she would be playing in a lot now.

Cutter walked to the front desk and checked in and was told where to head to, she walked through the ice rink looking around her new surroundings before she got to the locker room she was meant to be in and toon a deep breath squaring her shoulders and walked in.

She ignored the pausing of conversations when she walked in and the hushed whispers, she kept her eyes looking at the name plates until she found her stall and sat down.

Cutter grunted feeling eyes on her and looked up seeing almost the entire room staring at her all of them looking shocked, “What you’ve never seen a girl before.” Cutter harshly snapped, she was thirteen she was sure the boys have played with a girl before but even if they haven’t it doesn’t give them a right to stare at her like an idiot.

Cutter’s words made them all look away quickly and start their conversations back up.

Cutter rolled her eyes and started going through her bag to get ready for practice.

“I have.” A voice in the stall next to her pipped up.

Cutter looked up towards the voice and saw a boy with a smile on his face, “What?” Cutter grumbled being absolutely confused what this kid is taking about.

He was the only one she saw not looking at her shock but instead was smiling, she swears it’s not natural to smile as much as this kid seems to do.

“I have seen a girl before.” He clarified still smiling brightly at her.

Cutter couldn’t help but let out a little scoff that was close to a laugh, “Cutter.” Cutter held out her hand for him to shake.

“Cutter.” He softly repeated more to himself and he was still smiling, he shook her hand

“That’s my name.” Cutter raised an eyebrow at him feeling protective of her name as she has heard too many times now that Cutter was not a female name and she should just go by her first name but she did not care it was her name.

“I like it.” He seemed to smile even brighter and Cutter could not help but believe him.

“I’m Rutger.” Rutger beamed, his eyes haven’t been able to leave her since she walked in and he had a special feeling about her.

Cutter and Rutger seemed to share a smile, a smaller one from Cutter but still a smile.

It was the start of a friendship and maybe one day more.

Cutter and Rutger’s family’s were all staying together at a lake house in Arizona for a few weeks during the summer break.

It was a perfect vacation for everyone with having a house right on the water and close enough to the ice rink that Cutter and Rutger could walk to the hockey rink meaning none of their parents had to take them like they do during the school year.

When Cutter and Rutger became friends when they joined the same hockey team and their families met each other, the two families both immediately meshed well together.

Sean and Kim both noticed immediately that Rutger seems to bring out a softer side to Cutter and he also makes her smile more than they anyone else ever have making Rutger immediately get approval by Cutter’s parents.

Kennedy didn’t really care for Rutger but Rutger is always to her so she likes him but she does like Molly the most and Molly seems to love the younger girl just as much back.

Keegan loves that there is another boy around and he isn’t just stuck with his three sisters.

Kingston likes Rutger because Cutter likes Rutger as Cutter has always been Kingston’s favorite person, If Cutter likes someone then Kingston likes them. Rutger quickly became fond of the youngest Gauthier as she is a mini Cutter and he finds it very adorable that she follows Cutter every where like a little baby duck.

Cindy just immediately adored Cutter and was immediately treating her like another daughter, Jim really enjoyed that with Cutter becoming friends with Rutger he now had another person to watch hockey with.

Molly was very glad her little brother become friends with Cutter as she got to finally have another girl around more and very quickly saw Cutter as her little sister.

Cutter was laying out on one of the lawn chairs by the dock having decided to get out of the water and lay in the sun trying to take a nap.

She was only left alone for a little while before Rutger got out of the water already missing his best friend and snuck over to her.

Cutter flinched feeling cold water drip onto her bare stomach and squinted her eyes open seeing Rutger leaning over her grinning down at her. Cutter immediately was wary as she knows that smile means nothing but trouble and she was correct.

Rutger quickly darted down and slipped his arms under her and picking her up and throwing her over his shoulder, he laughed loudly as he started walking them onto the dock.

Cutter groaned as she was thrown over his shoulder and hit his back repeatedly, she hates that he can pick her up so easily.

“RUTGER MCGROARTY!” Cutter yelled trying to wiggle off his shoulder as he started to spin them around as he continued walking on the dock closer to the water.

Rutger was laughing so hard he nearly dropped her making her squeal and hold onto him tightly, “Rutger!” Cutter groaned not really wanting to fall off his shoulder.

“Sorry!” Rutger laughed out as he got to the edge of the dock.

“Rutger i swear.” Cutter tried to threaten but before she could even finish Rutger jumped into the lake with Cutter still on his shoulder.

Cutter wiped the water out of her face as her head got out of the water, her face was immediately glaring at Rutger, “I’m going to kill you.” Cutter angrily but playfully growled at her best friend.

“Uh oh!” Rutger squeaked as turned around immediately trying to swim away, Cutter was scary when she wanted to be.

Cutter jumped onto Rutger in the water, pushing his head under a good few times he was laughing and eventually she let Rutger push her off.

“Truce?” Rutger looked at her with his hopeful puppy dog eyes. He did not like when Cutter and himself were not on the same sides. Rutger did know he deserved what he got from Cutter as he did throw her in the lake when she did not want to go in but he just missed her.

“Truce.” Cutter fondly rolled her eyes but accepted his hand to shake as they treaded water next to each other in the lake. She was never known for letting go of a grudge quickly but with Rutger it was impossible to stay mad at him, she has tried before and it was impossible.

Kim and Cindy were sitting next to each on the lawn chairs watching over all their kids outside.

They both turned their heads hearing the loud laughter of Rutger and Cutter and saw them pushing each other around and splashing water at each other.

“You know i’ve never seen her smile more than she does with Rutger.” Kim spoke up smiling softly as seeing the joy on her daughter’s face.

“Rutger does not stop talking about her, since the day they met he is always talking about her.” Cindy added, she was use to almost every story from his son now has Cutter in them.

Cindy and Kim shared a knowing look, they knew the two would end up together one day it was obvious with how intertwined they are already.

“Maybe when they are sixteen?” Cindy suggested thinking it would take them a little while.

“Maybe seventeen, Cutter can be stubborn.” Kim disagreed knowing her daughter can be stubborn especially about her feelings.

“It’s a bet then.” Cindy mischievously smiled holding her hand out and Kim chuckled but nodded shaking her hand.
