good and bad
Tumblr media
March 28, 2025
Kensington grabbed one of the many pre bagged ice bags in her freezer and used one crutch to get over to her couch, she gently set down and put a pillow under her knee and set the ice pack on top and leaned her head back on the couch letting out a long sigh.
It’s been hell for her the last few months and her knee wasn’t getting any better but not any worse, truthfully it was her choice to continue to keep playing and she has being having an amazing season even it she’s in pain every day.

Kensington knew she wasn’t playing her best but she was playing good enough no one really noticed, she just didn’t go to any of the practices that were mandatory and did a lot of weight room for her upper body and a lot of physical therapy sessions.
She can’t say her whole year has been bad because it hasn’t been all bad, she’s gotten really close with the team and their families especially as the team knew about her injuries and they were all helping her a lot.
Kensington switched most nights between Sideny’s, Kris and Geno’s houses as their wifes/girlfriend wanted to make dinner for her, Kensington didn’t mind at all.
Kris and Geno both have kids who all adore Kensington and it really lifts her spirits spending time with them and Sidney and Kathy treat her like their kid and Kathy just adores Kensington.
Braden also joined her most nights for those dinners, the two are both in their rookie years and have become closer, they share a room and sit together on the airplane.
Kensington let out a sigh as she looked at her phone, she knew she hasn’t been the best person the last few months. Barely responding to anyone and keeping most responses very short. She has denied a lot of times for her parents coming to see her because she knew she would have to tell them about her injury and it would make it real.
She did get to see her brothers slightly after they played against each other and she had dinner both games and they were short dinners so it wasn’t hard to avoid saying anything about her injury.
Kensington hasn’t seen any one of her boys since she played at boston in the beginning of November. She couldn’t see them during their christmas break as they were heading to the WJC, and she didn’t play any other games at Boston. Kensington hasn’t gotten to see her boyfriend and best friends in months.
Kensington knew once the season was over she was going to have to go through a lot of conversations and tell everyone what’s been going on.

Update on trade
Again this is coming from ESPN and the Devils app
We got a goalie!!!!
The New Jersey Devils announced today that the team has acquired goaltender Jake Allen from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for New Jersey’s conditional third-round selection in the 2025 NHL Draft. Montreal will retain 50% of Allen’s salary both this year and in 2024-25, the last year of his contract. The announcement was made by President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald.
The conditions on the pick are as follows: if Allen plays in 40 regular-season games in the 2024-25 season and his club qualifies for the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the 2025 third-round pick becomes New Jersey’s 2025 second-round selection.
Allen, 33, joins New Jersey after spending the last four seasons with Montreal. The 6’2”, 195lbs. goaltender recorded a 41-68-15 career record with the Canadiens, while also earning three shutouts and a 3.30 goals-against average (GAA). Allen posted 6-12-3 record in 21 games this season for Montreal and owns a 6-1-0 career record playing at Prudential Center.
Before Allen was traded to Montreal on Sept. 2, 2020, he played in parts of eight seasons with the St. Louis Blues from 2011-12 to 2019-20. Allen earned 148 career wins with St. Louis, which ranks second all-time for Blues franchise history. The Fredericton, New Brunswick native logged his first career regular season start on Feb. 13, 2013, in a 4-3 win at Detroit. He recorded a career-high 33 wins in 2016-17 with St. Louis and earned a career-high six shutouts in 2015-16.
The veteran netminder also carries Stanley Cup Playoff experience, after playing in six postseasons with St. Louis, and was a member of their 2019 Stanley Cup championship team. Allen has played in 29 career postseason contests and owns an 11-12 overall record with a 2.06 GAA.
Born on Aug.7, 1990, St. Louis selected Allen in the second round, 34th overall, in the 2008 NHL Draft. He also represented Canada on the international stage at the International Ice Hockey Federation’s (IIHF) U18 World Junior Championship (WJC) in 2007-08 and 2009-10. Allen helped Canada win a Gold Medal in 2008 and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. He also earned a Silver Medal with Canada at the 2010 WJC.

Having a little meltdown over that tsn video omg. I just want to curl in a ball and cry it’s so cute. Like how much you wanna bet that luca’s been on the phone with Adam every single night since he’s left for world juniors? Encouraging him and talking him off the ledge and just being his biggest fan.
adam's love language appears to be words of affirmation, and i trust that luca is keeping him adequately supplied. i also hope that this entire experience convinces adam that he does not want to be compared to connor bedard for his entire rookie year in the nhl and that it would be far better to play one more year with luca, have his own revenge wjc, and skate away with the calder in 2025.

Q #164: “Are there any current pairs or dance teams who are impacted by the change of age rules so they won't be age eligible for any category once they go into effect? Like the male partner being too old to compete in juniors but the female partner not yet being eligible for seniors? At one point Green/Parsons would have been affected, for instance”
Hi anon,
Great question. I believe one of the representatives for the US at the ISU Congress raised the concern that the current US Junior champions would fall in that category and that is why he specifically voted for the gradual phase in by 2025. The combination that would land you in “no-man’s-land” would be any woman who’s not 17 by July 1st and any man who is 21 before July 1st. If the rules had been put in place this year, those dates would be any woman born after 1 July 2005 & and man born before 1 July 2001. In 2024/25 those birth years will be 2008 and 2004.
There are no top teams currently in juniors with an age gap more than 4 years I believe. At one point this would have affected Liza Khudaiberdieva (October 2002)/Nikita Nazarov (May 1998) had they stayed together after winning WJC Silver in 2019. As Liza would have to wait 1 year to turn senior and Nikita would’ve aged out. I think even though it’s certainly not the intended effect that this is positive.
You shouldn’t have young girls 13-17yo skating with adult men. It vastly increases the power differential between the two partners and makes things like partner abuse much more likely. A rule that essentially closes that window so you can no longer have 5+ year age gaps if you plan on going senior with the same partner is very positive. Ashley Wagner has mentioned this but currently junior competitions contain everything from middle schoolers through college students, that’s not a fantastic environment for young kids to grow and develop in.
In basically no other conditions would young people 13-21 be grouped together because they’re at such different psychological and physical maturity. I think it would be prudent for the ISU to raise the junior age limit to 14 as well.

Devils PR

4:30 PM
The New Jersey Devils announced today that the team has acquired goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for netminder Vitek Vanecek and New Jersey’s seventh-round draft pick in the 2025 NHL Draft. The announcement was made by President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald.
Kahkonen, 27, joins New Jersey after spending parts of the last three seasons with San Jose from 2021-22 to 2023-24. The 6’2”, 215lbs. goaltender was traded to San Jose from the Minnesota Wild on March 21, 2022. Kahkonen began his NHL career with Minnesota and logged his NHL debut on Nov. 26, 2019, in a 3-2 win at New Jersey. He spent parts of three seasons with the Wild (2019-20 to 2021-22), and owns a career 48-63-15 overall record with a 3.36 goals-against average (GAA).
The native of Helsinki, Finland earned a career-high 16 wins and two shutouts with Minnesota in 2020-21, which set a franchise record for the most wins that a rookie goaltender earned in a single season. Additionally, he recorded a nine-game winning streak from February 18 to March 16, 2021 which marked the fifth-longest stretch that a rookie goaltender earned in NHL history.
Before his NHL experience, Kahkonen spent parts of two seasons with Minnesota’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate in Iowa from 2018-19 to 2019-20. He posted a 25-6-5 record with Iowa in 2019-20, while his 25 wins and seven shutouts ranked first for all AHL netminders. Additionally, his .927 save percentage and 2.07 GAA ranked in the top five for AHL goaltenders in 2019-20. He then earned the Aldege “Baz” Bastien Memorial Award as the AHL’s outstanding goaltender for the 2019-20 season.
Born on Aug. 16, 1996, Minnesota selected Kahkonen in the fourth round, 109th overall, in the 2014 NHL Draft. The Finnish goaltender also represented his home country at the International Ice Hockey Federation’s (IIHF) U18 2012-13 and 2013-14 World Junior Championship (WJC) and helped Finland win a Bronze Medal at the 2012-13 tournament. He then earned a Gold Medal with Finland at the 2015-16 WJC, after posting a 4-0-0 record with a .909 save percentage and 2.52 GAA.
Kahkonen was teammates with current Devils forward Timo Meier in San Jose from 2021-22 to 2022-23.

THE NHL DRAFT AND THE NEW YORK RANGERS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings HARTFORD, CT - On paper, anyway, The New York Rangers had a successful 2023 NHL Draft. For now, "hope springs eternal." How it all shakes out in the end, only time will tell. The Rangers added four additional picks after selecting Gabe Perreault with their first-round pick at number 23, and with those picks, the Rangers went for size. President and General Manager (and Trumbull, CT native) Chris Drury decided on and took Drew Fortescu in the third round (90th overall). The one-time Mid-Fairfield player will join Perreault at Boston College (Hockey East) after their time as teammates on the USNDTP (USHL) and the US WJC. With the 152nd pick in the fifth round, the Rangers selected defenseman Rasmus Larsson, who played with Västervik IK (J-20 Sweden). Larsson will head to Northern Michigan (CCHA) to begin the next step in his development. In the sixth round, with the 178th pick, Druy and the Rangers selected 6'7" centerman Dylan Roobrueck from the Oshawa Generals (OHL). Roobrueck is one of just two players who were 6'7" that were drafted. Ty Hendricks was the Rangers' choice with their second sixth-round pick at 183rd overall. Hendricks is a 6'5", 205-pound Left-Winger who played for the Fargo (ND) Force (USHL) and the Muskegon Lumberjacks (USHL). He will be attending the Western Michigan Broncos (NCHC). CONNECTICUT RELATED DRAFT PICKS Regarding Connecticut-related players, the second day of the NHL draft was a bit quieter than usual. Only three college players were taken with Connecticut connections; one current and two future were chosen. Quinnipiac University (ECACHL) sophomore Charles-Alexis Legault, a right-handed, 6'3, 210 pounder, was taken from the reigning national champion Bobcats by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fifth round (139th overall). Legault was just one of nine US college draftees taken. Joining Legault in Hamden next season will be Chris Pelosi, who was taken 92nd overall in the third round by the Boston Bruins out of the Selects Academy program at Mount. St. Charles (RI). He played split last year between Janesville (WI) Jets (NAHL) and the Sioux Falls (SD) Stampede (USHL). A future Yale goalie in 2025-26 from the Taft Rhinos (Watertown), Rudy Giumond, who was the ONLY Connecticut High School player selected, and who won the New England Prep small school championship, was taken by the Detroit Red Wings 169th overall in the sixth round. While he is eligible to return to Taft, he will play next year with the Cedar Rapids (IA) Roughriders (USHL) to prepare for Division I college play. He was just one of four prep School players taken. The last major Taft player to play for Cedar Rapids was Max Pacioretty that transformed his play, NOTES: Howlings has learned that next year's 72-game Wolf Pack schedule will NOT include Midwestern teams Rockford, Milwaukee, and Grand Rapids. They have been dropped. Likely to return will be Laval,  Belleville, and possibly a new first-time team like the Cleveland Monsters (Columbus Blue Jackets). However, nothing is set in concrete. Ex-Sound Tigerr Josh Bailey was placed on unconditional waivers and picked up by the Chicago Blackhawks. Some final notes on the draft, some names of note. At 143rd in the fifth round by the draft's host, the Nashville Predators, was Sutter Muzzatti. He is the son of former Hartford Whaler/Wolf Pack Jason Muzzatti, the goalie coach for the Carolina Hurricanes. Lastly, at 149th overall in the fifth round, was Aaron Pionk. He is the youngest brother of ex-Pack Neal Pionk (Winnipeg Jets). Aaron is heading to the University of Minnesota-Duluth (NCHC) from the Waterloo Black Hawks (USHL).
