How far would you go to save the one you love?
I had the ABSOLUTE pleasure of collaborating with the amazing, talented, insane @nothinggathers for the DBH Reverse Big Bang 2024 @dbh-bb. This is a project that's been marinating in my head for a while featuring an initially machine!Connor leaping through different universes to try and save Hank, and deviating over the course of his journey as he grows more desperate to save him, develops a sense of connection with his own people and identity, and — of course — falls in love. It's been months of blood, sweat, tears, and lots of screaming, and there will be several more of the same, because this monster of a collab is reaching well over 150k words (Atro, I love you).
start here!!
(more close-up shots because the details on this piece took me forever):

I don't know if it's been said before but I think I just realised something about Hank.
You know how every time Connor comes back if he is destroyed and when questioned about it, he says it's not a big deal and that pisses Hank off?
Well, Hank is angry about it cause death is a big deal. His son is gone and is never coming back. Death hurts. Hank knows this better than anyone and then he has someone who, depending on the gameplay, constantly dies and comes back like "what's the big deal?"
It's a huge deal, especially to someone like Hank who has dealt with it and its consequences firsthand so to have someone die, come back and then make it clear that death is nothing to them would hurt.
Hank has said it before that Connor dying and coming back reminded him of Cole. But humans don't come back. Androids 9/10 have the luxury to come back.
They can have the absolute worst happen to them but then come back like "tada" and they don't understand the emotional turmoil it can cause because they just come back.
There's no fear, no goodbyes not grieving.
Connor comes back like "why are you emotional about it?" but Hank has all the reasons in the world to be very emotional about it.

I am not a fan of Cole lives AUs but this looks just sweet. Cole having two dads and Hank being happy and healthy... I think having his son alive Hank would be as sweet as he was, just... without depression. I am sure he would go easier on Connor and Connor would go deviant much sooner.
(I found this art on Pinterest, but I couldn’t find out who the author was)

Is there even Cole and Hank content in this goddamn fandom?
I'm talking about COLE AND HANK, like
Cole
COLE
and
Hank
Know that drunk guy?
HANK?
Repeat after me: COLE AND HANK
No AUs, no bullshitting. Just Cole and Hank, before the kid's death ofc. If u wanna add Hank's ex-wife and his long time co-workers feel free but COLE AND HANK, HANK AND COLE
The true father-son thing, y'know.
I know must be difficult for some people to understand what I'm explaining but I know I ain't dealing with monkeys here.
Just want someone to "fix" this damn plotline. Well, not fix it just, idk, do something, expand what already exists. There's something off to me.
And I also wanna test something...
So if u got any names lemme know 🥃

DBH: Where Hank's son comes from?
No, I am not asking about "the flowers and the bees" type of education and neither "from stock images" reply :D
Is there some official explanation about who was Cole's mother? Or do you have some cool AU about it? I would like to hear it!
Reasons why and what I keep thinking about it:
Hank is heavily affected by Cole's death and keeps lamenting about it a lot of times. He mentions his name a lot, he talks about the accident, feels deep remorse and guilt about failing as a father and as a police officer and even hates entire group of androids for one being unable to save Cole in the hospital. - You know this all from the game - But what happened to the MOTHER then?
Would she happened to have some accident or fatal illness, Hank would mention losing BOTH of them in the same way, wouldn't he?
If she dissapeared and Hank still loved her he would have at least one picture of her in the house somewhere. We see no picture at all, not even some torn one. Does Hank HATES her then and tries to forget her face and existence entirelly?
If she ran away from him, mothers usually take their children with them and leave the father behind. But Cole stayed with his father. Could that mean she had some mental disability she left her own child behind? Maybe she become drug addicted? Maybe she even ended up in prison? Maybe he became a police officer because of her?
If the mother divorced with Hank usually the court decides that the child stay with it's mother if there is not a special situation of the mother not wanting it or having too little money, is mentally unable or have no healthy place to rise a child. But Hank doesn't seem like he is swimming in money either. Or maybe he did before he fell into the depression? But this version still doesn't erase mother from the story because after she would find out about the accident, wouldn't she seek Hank about it or start hanging around again? Sometimes such bad situations put people back together. Of course might have been the very opposite of the mother being disgusted by Hank's 'unliability' causing the death of their kid so she was the one cutting of all chains with him and Hank just did the same to be even harder on himself. Although still I wonder if he would mention her in his depression reason.
Was Cole adopted?
If mother is non existing there might be a believable explenatory that Cole came from an orphanage. Based on the fact there are no other photos of Cole in younger age in the very house of Hank who is so attached to his lost son, maybe he adopted him older, maybe even at the very age or just a few years before he lost him.
What if Hank wanted kids so badly but found out he can't have them? Would he go for adoption or was Cole even made ARTIFICIALLY? I mean we talk about the future world and such options are already pretty possible today, what could be the options in 10 more years? But maybe that wouldn't fit Hank's psychology of disliking anything 'artificial' or 'too modern' so we could rather imagining him knowing the option but being too grumpy and obdurate to do it even if he wanted a kid so much.
I have that little fan theory in my head that Cole could have been a baby Hank found in a family car wreckage after a terrible accident he was being called to as a police officer. Finding out that the child's parents were killed in the accident he felt the fatherly protective instinct to take care of him by himself. However, could that fatherly instinct wake up even if the person was not an actuall father first?
Another option about the same kind of idea would be that he took that kid away from some red ice bunker gang/couple. He was part of the anti-drug unit. Maybe he found neglected kid in one of the hideouts (these kids are taken away by the child protective services first) and adopted it, cutting off any past of his parents from him.
I can imagine how even harder would it be for Hank to be unable to become a father physically, so he finds an alternative, and then he loses the child shortly after. Must have hit even harder feeling like a total failure of a man with everything against him preventing him to grasp the dream of being the father.
But this is all just my train of thoughts, I'd like to hear your opinions or corrections or, as I wrote in the beginning, your ideas or your own versions :) Thank you for reading!

Something that is little talked about is that Hank definitely moved away after Cole's death.
I imagine he had a two-story house, with a big, beautiful yard where Cole and a Sumo puppy played. There were trees everywhere and a treehouse that Hank built him when Cole was four years old. There were colorful swings that Hank painted in the summer, a beautiful bicycle he gave her for Christmas, and toy cars all over the yard. There was an inflatable pool that Sumo chewed on and water sprinklers where Cole splashed around. A beautiful room full of toys and walls covered in colored crayons. Shelves full of children's books and toy airplanes suspended in the air.
The house is big and old, the wood creaks and the hinges hiss at night. There are photographs everywhere and drawings on the refrigerator. It smells like old wood and bacon. There's Cole's handwriting on the walls and the mark of his height on the kitchen wall.
Hank left that house when Cole died. You can still hear his laughter through the walls. There are still papers of his drawings on the living room floor. There are some baby clothes in Hank's room.
There are still painful memories and tears.
One day Connor discovers the existence of that house.

"Personal issues."
Request: can you pls write something with connor from dbh it can be about literally anything 😈😈
Fandom: Detroit Become Human
Warnings: Swearing, Loss of brother, Absent father, Alcohols/Bars, Suicidal tendencies, Brief car crash description, Swearing, Gun, Knife, Sex club mention, Assault
A/N: reader is hank's daughter and cole's twin, and as the year DBH is set in has no significance, we're pretending it's set in 2045 so this makes more sense ;P (pretend hank was born in 1992) well, im tired and projecting, enjoy the hurt/comfort @tzulv ! <33
Tumblr media
----
You pull your gloves on, shivering as you walk onto the bus. The weather can get horrible in Detroit, especially in winter. Usually your Dad would collect you when it was this cold, but he was busy with his police work. Apparently, he was assigned an android as a partner- which he is not happy about at all. After your brother's accident, your Dad hated androids. You never blamed them though, which caused many intense arguments.
An hour or so later, you arrive back home. You hurry inside, immediately going to turn the radiator on. You dump your bag and coat in your room, and start your daily cleanup. Your Dad has never been one for cleaning, so you're usually the one to do it. You grab last nights takeaway containers, some beer bottles and dump it all in the bin. You wipe down the counters, straighten out the couch and head to your room.
You spend the next few hours studying, eventually coming out of your room to make dinner. You glance around, not seeing your Dad anywhere. He's probably at some bar. You make yourself instant noodles- it being all that was in the cupboard- and head back to your room. The shining lights from the fairy lights reflect softly on your fork as you twirl it in the cup. Your gaze drifts to a framed picture of your Dad hugging you and your brother. Your Dad had a big grin on his face, with a smear of frosting on his face.Your brother was on your Dad's right side looking up at him with a similar grin, frosting coating his hands. Your eyes were scrunched closed from laughing, and you were leaning against your Dad's left arm.
You smile fondly at the memory. It was your and Cole's 6th birthday, and you two ganged up on your Dad and had a cake fight. You recall how afterwards you and Cole had a contest to see who could eat their slice the fastest, and how you both got sick from eating too fast. Your Dad had tucked you both in with promises of more cake the next day. Looking back on memories like those, it was weird knowing you wouldn't ever see your brother again less than a month later.
You stare at the picture for another moment, then tearing your eyes from it. You look down at your now cold noodles and stir them absentmindedly. Your Dad lost himself after the crash. Nothing seemed to matter to him except alcohol, not even you. You were left to bring yourself up. You were the one to do the shopping, cooking, cleaning...you were the adult of the house. A part of you wished he would pull his act together, but a different part knew even if he did you couldn't forgive him.
A window smashing snaps you out of your thoughts. You hear footsteps in the kitchen, and instinctively pull out your swiss army knife. Although your Dad never taught you much, he made sure his daughter knew how to defend herself. You quietly make your way to your door, pressing your ear against. An unfamiliar voice is talking, it's definitely not your Dad. You suck in a deep breath and push your door open.
You creep down the hallway, poking your head around the corner. You stifle a gasp at the sight- your Dad was lying on the floor unconscious with a bottle of alcohol, a gun beside him. There was a man kneeling beside him, practically analysing him. He has yet to notice you. You spare a glance at Sumo, who looks content with the situation, and step forward. The man turns to look at you and you see the blue circle on the side of his forehead- you recognise he's an android.
You hold your knife defensively in front of you, "Who the hell are you?" He slowly stands up and raises both of his hands. "My name is Connor. I'm an android sent by CyberLife, and I'm Lieutenant Anderson's partner. Who are you?" You look down at your Dad, then back at him. Connor seems to understand, "I didn't do this. I came to get him for a case."
You scoff at him, "I know you didn't do this, this happens every fucking night." You lower your knife, acknowledging he isn't a threat. He lowers his hands back down at looks at you expectantly. You hesitate before putting your hand out to shake. "My name is Y/N Anderson. I'm Hank's daughter." Connor shakes your hand, "It's a pleasure to meet you, Y/N." You drop your hand and look back down at your Dad. What you said wasn't a lie- this was a daily occurrence. Most of the time you would prop a pillow underneath his head and throw out the alcohol, other times you would pour water on him. It depends on how late it is.
Connor kneels back down to your Dad and shakes him, "Wake up, Lieutenant!" You roll your eyes and lean against the wall. "You gotta be more aggressive than that." Connor glances back at you, then turns back around and slaps your Dad. Your eyes widen and your mouth falls open slightly, while Connor pulls your Dad up. "Hey, get the fuck outta my house!" he slurs as he stumbles along with Connor. You raise an eyebrow at your Dad while he drunkenly calls for Sumo to attack, not even noticing you.
You trail after the two as Connor sets your Dad on the bath. Despite how late it was, you wanted to see where this goes. To your surprise Connor actually turns on the tap, making you laugh at him. He spares you a glance before turning the tap off again, staring down at your Dad. The latter seems to finally notice your presence, to which you smile, before he turns back to Connor "What the fuck are you doing here?"
"A homicide was reported 43 minutes ago. I couldn't find you at Jimmy's bar, so I came to see if you were at home." Connor responds cooly. You huff a laugh and your Dad shoots a glare your way. "Jesus, I must be the only cop in the world that gets assaulted in his own house by his own fucking android..." he groans as he tries to sit up, then looks up at Connor "Can't you just leave me alone?"
Connor looks like he's contemplating something, before saying "You seem to have personal issues. You should consult a professional who can help you." You involuntarily take a step back as your Dad angrily stands up yelling "Beat it! You hear me? Get the hell outta here!" He sways and Connor sets him back down again. The android straightens up and turns to the door, "I understand. It probably wasn't that interesting anyway. A man found dead in a sex club downtown.." you scrunch up your nose in disgust as Connor continues "Guess they'll have to solve the case without us..."
Your Dad pauses before saying "You know, it probably wouldn't do me any harm to get some air.." You roll your eyes and take this as your cue to leave. You walk to the kitchen, grabbing some cleaning supplies and cleaning up the mess the pair left behind. "Fucking bastard, breaking my window.." you mutter under your breath. CyberLife better be paying for this. A few minutes later, you're done cleaning and Connor re-enters the room. You look at him for a moment, trying to decide what to say.
"I.." Connor turns to you, tilting his head, "Thank you. If you didn't get here.." you gesture to the gun on the floor. "Thank you." He nods before pointing to a picture on the table, "Is that a picture of your brother?" You blink and look at the picture in question. It was a school photo of Cole at the start of Kindergarten. It was his first school photo. You remember being next in line for your picture and pulling funny faces behind the photographer to get him to laugh.
You focus your attention on Connor again, "Yeah, yeah it is." He nods again, looking around the room. You return to your cleaning, and after a few minutes your Dad walks back into the room. He looks at you before saying "Be good. I won't be long." You look at him and say nothing- what could you possibly say? "Ok, also are we going to talk about how you tried to kill yourself?" You knew he would never talk to you about it so there was no point in trying.
You watched the two leave and turn back to the window. It was freezing outside and there was now rain forming a puddle beneath the windowsill. Brilliant. You grab some duct tape plus some old cereal boxes and beer boxes and begin taping it against the window. You take a step back, admiring your handiwork. You walk back to your room and toss the noodles into your bin.
You stretch out on your bed and stare at the ceiling. Given the circumstances, meeting Connor was nice. He seemed like a good person- well, a good android, you suppose. Maybe he'll rub off on your Dad, and then he'll be nicer to you. Or maybe actually have a meaningful conversation with you. You couldn't recall the last time you two spent time together- probably when Cole was around. As your thoughts drift from Cole to androids, you slowly fall asleep.
----
You and Cole are laughing at each other, making some stupid joke. Dad is laughing along with you, eyes focused on the road. It was a snowy night outside. You tell Dad to turn up the music- Jazz- and he does, doing a little dance too. You and Cole giggle at his antics. You turn to your brother to tell him a joke but all you can see if white and there's a screech and someone's screaming and-
----
You bolt upright in your bed, cold sweat coating you. You slow your breathing and sip the water on your bedside. You slowly got out of bed and walked out your door. You walked to the sitting room and crawled onto the couch beside Sumo, who happily put his head on your stomach. This is how Hank found you several hours later in the early morning when he got home from the bar. He had walked over to you and pulled a blanket over your legs. You had mumbled in your sleep "G'night Da..", to which he smiled and whispered "Night kid." You slept soundly after that.

Yoooooo! It's been a hot minute since I posted a new prompt, but here's something I've been thinking about for a few days now? Consider:
AU where Cole was born much earlier, back before Hank's career really kicked off. He follows his ol' dad into the police force, joining the DPD the summer of 2035. However, that same year, a freak ice storm takes the city. Hank had been planning to visit Cole in his first apartment, promising him that "the roads aren't that bad, don't worry about it." The next call Cole receives is from Detroit Regional Hospital, asking for a next of kin. Cole rushes there himself, heedless of the horrible state of the roads, to find his father in surgery, a medical android operating. Anxiously, he waits through the night, fidgeting in the uncomfortable plastic chairs outside the operating theater.
He receives the news the next morning. Hank had suffered some serious injuries including multiple concussions, and had fallen into a coma during the surgeries. He's told there's no way to know when or if he might wake. The sight of the medical android leaving the theater with the same placid expression on its face as off of the things haunts him long after that night.
For three long years, he's consoled with platitudes of "it might be any day now." For three long years, he visits his father regularly, hoping to spark some change in the man. For three long years, he throws himself into his work, hoping to forget that this was all his fault. That Hank had been out because of him. That he was laid up in a sterile room for years because of him.
And almost three years later, his hard work pays off. His promotion to detective coincides with a surge in deviancy cases. And Cole Anderson, professional workaholic, newly-instated rookie, who's father's big shoes he will fill or die trying, has a proposition for the captain:
"Assign me this case," he demands.
"This is high profile, rookie. The sergeant will handle it," Fowler replies.
"Sir, the sergeant hates androids. I can work with it. Perhaps even mediate."
"Seem to recall you not being a fan either, Anderson."
And Cole grits his teeth, flashbacks of an android in bloody scrubs running through his mind. But he says, "I'm not, sir. But I need…" And here he hesitates, looking away from Fowler's piercing gaze. "… I need something… substantial… at this time of year…"
And the office is quiet for a few seconds more before he hears Fowler sigh. And Cole knows he's won this. "Alright, Anderson. Alright. I'll add you to the case. But Reed takes lead, you hear me? No going off on your own, kid."
Smartly, Cole salutes, knowing when to let sleeping dogs lie. "Thank you, Captain. You won't regret it."
"But Reed might," he hears the man mutter as he closes the door behind him.
Cole smirks, returning to his desk and the case files he'd been finishing up. Deviancy, he thinks. Perhaps this is the missing link. The key to proving androids can't be trusted in sensitive situations. That his father's condition was a result of malpractice, not routine. That they, too, shoulder some of the blame.
Two days later, Cole meets Connor. And that is when he knows his theory is right.
Or! The one where Hank is out of commission and an adult Cole Anderson is assigned to the deviancy case alongside Connor and Gavin. Through peril and hardship, the three must learn to work together to solve the greatest mystery Detroit has ever known, or risk letting the menace known as deviancy roam free. And meanwhile, tempers flare, worldviews shift, and all three learn there's perhaps more to life than just being human.
