the whole 'dan and phil must be opposites' side of The Brand has always confused me cause they never shut the fuck up about being similar and then people are shocked when they act like each other
i dont think its as much of a thing nowadays because theyve been so firmly tied together as a single entity, and ive talked abt this before but i do think part of it is literally just human nature. you see two things together, literally anything, and subconsciously you make note of their differences in order to tell them apart. i think for dnp they exaggerated their differences on purpose once they became Dan And Phil™, and i think all that PLUS flanderization of these exaggerated traits in fanfics and certain things just being accepted as "fanon" just means, people still to this day have a skewed vision of dnp

THE PERMANENT RAIN PRESS INTERVIEW WITH COLD FAME
Tumblr media
Cold Fame is making waves with their inspired electronic/indie pop music. Victoria-based Damian Anthony and Cody Dalman formed the group in mid-2021, with Jodi Pederson joining as lead vocalist earlier this year. They’ve been hard at work with new music, building their brand, and preparing for their live performances in 2023. Their latest single, “If That’s Love,” is a lush, summery cut about fulfilment and taking a chance for another. The accompanying music video is a fun watch, with their friends and family coming together for a pool party, and other shenanigans.
You originally formed as a duo in 2021, with vocalist Jodi Pederson joining this year (after having collaborated with her stage moniker ROYAL on April’s “Loved You Too Much”). Tell us about this union, and how it came to be.
We originally created Cold Fame as a production “duo,” meaning it was just meant to be the two of us (Damian & Cody) producing beats and instrumentals. We had zero intention, at the time, of becoming a “band” and so we only created collaborative tracks with feature vocalists. Our very first track featured local vocalist/songwriter Xana and when we asked her to recommend a producer to work with, she recommended Shane Stephenson (who we have since had co-produce all of our songs to date). One thing led to another; he recommended that we work with ROYAL (Jodi) on a track. That song became “Loved You Too Much.”
We honestly enjoyed working with her so much we asked if she wanted to [work on] another (which became “Cherry Kiss On Ice”). While working together on Cherry Kiss, it honestly just made sense to ask her if she wanted to become the permanent singer for Cold Fame. We agreed to keep the name and branding that we had started but to shift the direction a bit. Since then we’ve released our third single together “If That’s Love” and it feels like the most refined of all our releases as far as the sound we want to go for moving forward.
For Jodi, was it an easy decision to join Cold Fame as a full-time member, because you also have your solo project, ROYAL, to consider.
The first song Cody and Damian and I worked on together was such a positive experience, and as we all got to know each other a little better, we just clicked. I’ve always wanted to be in a band, so when the guys asked me to join I was ecstatic. I’m pretty sure I either started jumping up and down or started dancing - maybe both...
I am the type of person who loves to be busy and creative, so having the two bands is perfect for me. When I feel like diving into something moody and dramatic, I’ll work on a ROYAL song. When I’m feeling more of a fun, indie pop vibe I throw myself into a Cold Fame song - it’s my perfect oasis and the best of both worlds!
Who are your major influences as a band? Is there overlap between your individual members’ musical inspirations?
We all have a pretty diverse catalogue of musical influences; Cody and Damian maybe a bit more similar with their metal/rock background, compared to Jodi’s love for Billie Holiday. As a band we collectively draw inspiration from the artists: The 1975, Paramore and MOTHICA. One of the first things we did as a band was put together a playlist of songs and artists to inspire and establish our sound and tone. But with each song we write, we tend to really just blend our own stylistic approaches and that’s what really creates our sound and makes each song so unique from one another.
Congratulations on the release of “If That’s Love.” It’s very playful and polished. Was it very collaborative between you as a trio, between the lyrics and what you wanted to achieve in sound?
Thank you - we are very excited about this release!
Yes. This song was a perfect storm of all three members of Cold Fame. Cody came up with the majority of the instrumental, including the main guitar hook, one night and sent it over in a group chat we have going on. Right away we were all very excited about it and Damian dug in with some further instrumental production. Once the structure was ready, Jodi sat with it and the lyrics and melody poured right out. Those songs are always the most fun to write - sometimes it can be such a trudge to get a song down, but “If That’s Love” was almost effortless.

It was co-produced by Shane Stephenson, who’s a prolific producer in the BC music scene. What was it like working with him to fully realize your vision for this song?
We love Shane - in fact - Shane was the person who connected us in the first place! So it felt natural to bring him in for production - and as you said, he is a prolific and brilliant producer, so it was a no brainer. I like to compare Shane’s production talents to that of Jack Antonoff, in that he has the ability to make brilliant music with a diverse range of artists without changing their sound.
Instead, he enhances it - which not all producers do. Some have a very distinct sound and style and when you hear a song they’ve worked on, sometimes it can feel like such a strange animal and departure from that artist. But with Shane, he really listens to the artists and their vision, and works to complement their style, resulting in such a positive experience and music outcome. Our vision with this song was so clear from the beginning that Shane was able to work that into magic, and we are all beyond happy with the result.
The song has an underlying message of living life with no regrets. Are positivity and hopefulness themes that you hope to consistently incorporate in your music, or was this specific to this track?
I’m not sure if it motivates each track, but there seems to be a bit of that as an underlying tone of our recent and upcoming works. Speaking on behalf of myself (Jodi), I’ve written so much depressing and sad music that it has been liberating to be writing something with a positive tone. Especially now, I feel that we could all use a bit more of that in our lives. But you never know, you’ll just have to wait and see what’s next ;)
The music video looked like a lot of fun to shoot, and felt like a casual pool party with friends; how did it come together?
The music video was a lot of fun to make, and that was our goal with that project; to throw a fun pool party with friends and film it. Jodi loves coming up with music video concepts, and we all liked this idea and jumped on board. Our friend Sergej was the talent behind the lens, bringing to life all of Jodi’s Pinterest inspired shots as well as his own ideas. Cody is our natural star, Damian and his drone “money shot,” Jodi with her killer outfit (dress by local Vancouver designer Zoë Führ of FUHR co.) and the cherry on top: friends and family of the band who travelled from as far as Vernon and the island to be a part of the filming in Vancouver - it all added up to a fun day and stunning music video.
You’ve been using TikTok as a band. What’s your take on using social media and content creation, and how it’s helped grow your audience? Have you faced any challenges?
Social media has become such a powerful tool for independent bands such as ourselves. With it, we’ve been able to grow and expand our reach with our audience across the globe, connect and interact with our audience as well as people within the music community, build relationships to create more business opportunities and put out as much content as our hearts desire. There are so many advantages to utilizing all the different platforms that are out there. The challenge is trying to post regular content when it can be pretty time consuming to make, luckily there are three of us 🙂
Tumblr media
How would you describe the current music landscape in BC in terms of opportunities for independent artists like yourself?
We are so fortunate to live in a place that has so much love and support for the arts. BC offers a variety of grant opportunities, we have Music BC and Creative BC in our corner, and so much local talent to create professional content with our recording, visuals and more. We are looking forward to seeing what the live music scene is like, now that the world is opening up again. We hope that people have missed it as much as we have, as we can’t wait to get back on stage.
Touring across BC is also one of the most beautiful trips you can take, and we look forward to watching the landscape change as we drive from one town to the next.
Can you name a few Canadian (British Columbia) artists whose music you listen to and would recommend?
We will do our best to not make this list too long, as we have many Canadian and specifically, BC based artists whose music we enjoy - here it goes! LIINKS, Luca Fogale, Adam Mah, Emily Rowed, Alexandria Maillot, Sam Lynch, Conro, Riun Garner, Desirée Dawson, Jon Bryant, Mathew V, BENJII, daysormay, Shredkelly, SonReal, Laura Reznek, Shale, Sleepshake - wow, we could go on forever - and those are just some of the BC based artists!
What are your plans for the fall/winter? Can you give us some insight into the new music you’ve been working on?
We’ve just released our new single and music video for “If That’s Love,” and we have plenty more in the works. January 2023 will have our first live performance - with more details of that coming soon. We look forward to releasing our first EP in 2023 and playing as many live shows as we can. So stay tuned and be sure to check out our social media pages for the latest on all the goods!
What are your recommendations of a few cool places to visit as a tourist in your hometown of Victoria?
Victoria is a beautiful harbour-type city with lots to do, especially in the summer. Even just a nice walk around downtown is sure to land you in some pretty interesting places. Fun fact: Victoria has the highest number of restaurants per capita in all of Canada. So if you’re a foodie or if you like craft beer, you probably couldn’t hit every restaurant in town if you wanted to.
A couple of my favourites (Damian) are Garrick’s Head (pub), Yalla (Middle Eastern), Shine Cafe (breakfast/brunch), Tacofino, Boom + Batten, Il Terazzo... the list goes on.
Our signature question: If the band, collectively, could be any ice cream flavour, which would you be and why?
Salted Caramel isn’t your ordinary, everyday flavor of ice cream. It’s intricate and complex, the flavours are unique and exciting, and its texture is smooth yet dynamic and fun.

Thanks to Cody, Damian and Jody for answering our questions! We loved learning more about the band and their music.

Perhaps the utmost terrifying thing about Rozália isn't her level of swordsmanship, not even her indifference to/during acts considered monstrous; but her intelligence. + how she decides to utilize it.
Her intellect is wicked sharp, lightning fast, capable of improvising an entirely different plan within seconds. Adaptable, ruthless, brilliant and observant. She can judge a scene in a few seconds and decide accordingly. For Rozália you're as transparent as glass. She picks up any attempt of manipulation with ease but she plays into them for her own amusement. She's bored. She wants to be entertained. Challenged mentally, not just on the battlefield. This is partly where her no lying policy comes from, she doesn't need to resort to that because she still has plenty to work with. She doesn't need to resort to or rely on lying; and she takes great pride in the fact. She wants to lure her prey into a sense of control and security before she flips the chessboard completely and seamlessly with a grin slick of victorious malice. After all, it's just a game for her.
Throughout the conversation she's already two leaps ahead, she learned the game even more during and when the timing is right, plays it better than the one stupid enough trying to fool her. Most of the time her own endgame is murder, but only after the intellectual humiliation, after being flayed open with the right words with uncanny ease. She is an expert on picking up weaknesses, unsteady footing, personal issues from the tiniest clues possible, if you don't drop enough or any, she will use her knowledge of you, of your country's political, economical situation, of your status to pry a reaction exposing the target.
And once she has it, she stabs with unpredictable timing and great precision, with the exact words to make you crumble completely. She takes utmost sadistic satisfaction and glee in the sight, the effects her words have, she's ruthless, remorseless when it comes to exploiting weaknesses, insecurities, leaving scars lasting forever.
Rozália also thinks, plans, acts three steps ahead in case the conversation suddenly would involve a smaller army. She may be mad but she's not stupid. Far from it actually. She is fluent in three languages, learning a fourth, understands one more and its dialects, well read regarding warfare, tactics, history, politics, aware of current events and conflicts. When she enters a conversation/negotiation she is radiant with confidence because most times she knows all what she has to and already made preparations accordingly.
The reason she's so entangled with @pyratezlife 's Ned Low because he gives her what nobody can. A challenge. A dangerous game. A bloody puzzle to both fit together and pull apart. A battle of wits where the other party isn't unarmed. A feeling that she has to keep sharp focus to stay ahead of him. And it thrills her to no end, that someone sort of matches, can keep up with her level of madness. That he can keep her interested; victory will never taste sweeter than this one. And maybe this time she will put the pieces of him together after as an act of respect for all he had provided her with.
Conclusion why I ultimately picked her intelligence as the worst: You cannot be properly scared of her skills with a blade because half of her movements can barely even be followed by naked eye and you are already dead before witnessing the full scale horror she's capable of unleashing. There are also many people who don't really bat an eye about dishing out death or torture, it's not that rare. And she's a pirate captain, what else is expected from her? But. Having a conversation where it becomes evident how insane and cruel she actually is? The realization of exactly WHAT is sitting across you? That she is genuinely in for her own twisted amusement, she has been winning from the very start and the victory prize might just be your life. The feeling of dread, helplessness, pure horror when all of those come crashing down; the cold fire in her calculative glare, the uncanny sharpness of her smirk, fangs slowly revealing themselves as she senses the shift of the mood. As if indeed the Devil itself decided to take on a humanlike appearance.

The Weight of Fame
For some time, a thought has rolled around in my head on the matter of fame. Growing up, I had a very unique viewpoint to this, because as all of you know, I am nowhere near famous. But due to my mother's profession, I grew up around a lot of famous people.
In some cases, they were quite famous long before our paths crossed. Sometimes, fame crept up slowly. And, in some cases, I watched them go from relative obscurity to instant fame. It was dizzying, to be certain.
There is a hazard in the performance profession that if you keep at it long enough, you just might become famous. For some people, this is the entire goal—fame and fortune. But, for me, my biggest dream when I pursued acting was to be "oh, it's that girl from such-and-such" and never to have my name be a household one.
Why? Well, fame is lousy.
Don't get me wrong! There are certain benefits, of course, especially where endorsements and freebies come into play. The thought that a famous person with millions of followers might use your product and post about it is always enticing—especially for small businesses.
But the actual labor of being famous is a task. Very often, fame is unpredictable and arises in its own, un-chartable fashion. In some very rare situations, you can opt into it, like when taking on an iconic role.
Doctor Who comes to mind most readily. There is a certain fanaticism that is next-level when it comes to a long-living, iconic export such as this one. Matthew and I were studying at Leicester when so-called New Who debuted, so Christopher Eccleston was our first introduction to The Doctor.
When he regenerated into David Tennant, that was my first introduction to the Scottish actor. He instantly became someone we recognized in our household at an instant, even as he popped up in roles in other media we watched. It was never, "Oh, it's that guy!" It was always, "Oh, it's David Tennant."
With a single role, David Tennant became a household name for us. But, I feel like that's a known hazard of becoming, "The Doctor". I may be wrong, but listening to Doctor 12—Peter Capaldi—speak on how "Matt" and "David" prepped him on the particulars of the famous role leads me to believe this is not something into which an actor walks unknowingly.
No, there is a certain feverishness fanatacism associated with Whodom, and there are definitely expectations one should have for themselves walking in.
Privacy? Nope. Not going to happen. Everywhere you walk, folks will flood you for autographs. Social Media? Oh, run. You might as well run! You're never going to be able to simply scroll through your mates' latest shitposts and family photos without being assaulted by a million photos of yourself and others' opinions on every one.
In essence, by accepting a role that is a tremendous accomplishment, you have to also accept the weight of unrelenting, unforgiving fame. Every moment will be photographed or video-taped. If you take a step, it will be recorded, scrutinized, and analyzed at length. Fame is the robber of privacy and peace of mind.
And yet there are people who seek it. And, more power to them, I suppose. But, it's one thing to walk in knowingly. It's quite another to have it explode into place or, worse, creep in unexpectedly.
Let's first address the overwhelming surprise of sudden fame. In the 90's, my mother was the assistant makeup on a television show in our hometown. For her, it was a job that would help her support her two children. She was a single mom, after all, and one of the benefits of living in our city was that films and television shows actually shot there.
Much of the year, she took work wherever she could. Sometimes she was in Arizona. Sometimes in England. Sometimes we didn't know where she was. But, to land a series in-town was huge and meant we would see more of her, even with 18+ hour days and fraturday schedules.
During the filming of the first season, before the Pilot aired on television screens across the nation, Mom invited the four leads to our house for spaghetti dinner.
At one point, someone decided to turn on a computer and input each of their names to see what came up in search. For all but one of the actors, it was next-to-nothing. The fourth actor had come into fame as a child, so there was plenty there, and I can assure you they endured a fair amount of teasing that night for what the early internet unearthed.
Within a few months, they were all wildly famous. The internet was filled with their faces, magazines called for photo shoots, and all my friends at school were talking about that show.
Everything changed for them in an instant. Yes, the locals were still decent. I mean, in Wilmington, almost everyone worked in the industry at that point. Seeing a famous person in the grocery store was always met with, "Oh, neat", and then you moved on as if nothing happened. No autographs. No photos. Folks were in town to work and didn't need bothering.
But the tourists. Oh, the tourists! Suddenly, everything these actors did was monitored, broadcasted. "Who is sleeping with who?" rumors erupted. Discussion of acne. All the embarrassing things we hope nobody will notice about us became water cooler conversation for perfect strangers across the globe.
It's not that they didn't know it was a possibility. They're actors, after all, and that kind of fame can come. But it was still... surprising.
Now, I think they handled it as best as they could, truly. But it did change everything for them. Fame always does.
But the third type of fame is the one that I think must be the hardest—unexpected fame. The kind where someone is in no way seeking a public-facing job and somehow, somewhere along the way, they become famous without wanting it.
There are lots of people this can happen to—from scientists to authors to architects. Some people simply want to create something incredible that people connect and relate to, and find themselves thrown into the throes of fame without time to grapple with what it means.
Or, worse, after years of relative invisibility find themselves thrust into the constant churn of fame's unbearable machinations.
"Smile!" "Answer my question!" "Why are you ignoring me?" "You're a diva because you didn't answer my exact question the way I told you that I wanted you to answer it."
These people never sought fame. They sought survival. They sought satisfaction in their profession. They sought to do the job well. And, yet, fame found them. Oh, how difficult that must be.
So, to the fame-seekers, I ask you to think long and hard about it before you pursue it. Are you ready to lose your privacy? Are you ready to have every decision you make placed under scrutiny, down to which clothes you wear (or don't) and how you choose to style your hair?
And to those interacting with famous folks—give them a break. Yes, some of them sought it. Some of them accepted it. But that doesn't mean they are any less human and deserving of kindness, consideration, and courtesy.
Being famous has its perks, sure, but it also strips a lot away. It takes, and it takes, and it takes. So, remember to give famous folks some space, too. Let them be people, still, because that is what they are. At the core... still human.
Because their family and dearest friends won't remember them the same way a fan will. A fan will remember the performer and all the pieces that they gleaned from magazines and interviews. But their friends and family will remember the person, the individual, the heart and soul beneath it all with which they had a meaningful relationship.
They're still human. It's okay to let them be human. At least, that's my take on it.

Milk - O - Mania Is Running Wild: The Time Kurt Angle Brought In A Milk Truck To Taunt The Alliance
Hey Everyone! I hope that you all are having a good day or night wherever you are! Yes, you did read the title of this article right. I’m going to be talking about one of my all time favorite RAW segments , Kurt Angle spraying milk on The Alliance.
The Alliance consisted of wrestlers representing Extreme Championship Wrestling ( ECW ) and World Championship Wrestling ( WCW ). Stephanie McMahon was the General Manager of ECW, therefore , her brother , Shane McMahon , was the General Manager for WCW. This was a part of the Invasion storyline , which was the biggest storyline for WWE in 2001 during the Attitude Era. The storyline ran for nine months , from March to November. It actually began when Vince McMahon bought WCW. This would mark the end of The Monday Night Wars. Stephanie and Shane McMahon would make Booker T the first leader for the stable and Stone Cold Steve Austin the second leader. However , Austin was involved in a feud with Kurt Angle. Their rivalry would be taken to another level on August 20,2001.
On the August 20, 2001 episode of RAW Is War , it was declared Stone Cold Appreciation Night . Stephanie McMahon, Paul Heyman , and Austin’s wife at the time , Debra , were standing in the ring with their stablemates surrounding it on the outside . Alliance members already expressed their gratitude for their leader in vignettes. While in the ring , more members paid tribute to to Austin before a video package was played on the titantron. Austin spoke about he was victorious over Angle and kept belittling Taz over not wearing one of his shirts .
Nevertheless, fans caught some relief when they heard Kurt Angle’s music hit . To mock the time with Austin sprayed Vince McMahon with beer, Kurt made his way to the ring in a milk truck in order to face The Alliance. He started throwing cartons of milk at them to get revenge before he took out Shawn Stasiak, the Alliance member who tried to put a stop to what he was doing . Angle soon grabbed a hose and sprayed milk all over the ring, soaking his rivals with it . Jim Ross would declare that ‘ Milk O Mania ’ was running wild and The Million Dollar Princess was now The Dairy Queen , referring to Stephanie McMahon. Angle celebrated what he did by climbing on top of the milk truck and drenching himself with two cartons of milk.
My Final Thoughts:
This has to be one of the funniest segments I have ever watched. I was a young child when it first happened , however, I can go back and watch it on Peacock or YouTube now. Kurt Angle will forever be iconic because of this and his wrestling.
Love You All,
- Kay
