Lupin’s after story is pure comfort food and nostalgia. Sweet, warm and gentle. A little tidying up loose ends, a little cute problem solving, lots to smile about….. and perhaps a little wistfulness to cry about, too, depending on one’s attachments. It doesn’t add much to the story, but rather feels like a fond, hopeful “goodbye.” It reads like it was probably intended to be played last as Lupin’s route was in Guardian of Rebirth.

Lupin’s story in both games is obviously intended as the default, or “true” route. It makes a lovely little story, and Lupin is a great, fun character. I love his cocky, indomitable confidence and strength of will. There is a lot I truly love about Lupin, especially when he isn’t the romantic focus. I think if the anime mostly just follows his route, it will still be a good, fun story….

But it is far from MY favorite route in Code: Realize. It is a little too…. normal and expected, in comparison to the others. It is not that it doesn’t have suspense and emotional strength…. also probably my favorite “rescue of a damsel in distress” scenes anywhere. It just isn’t as compelling somehow. Cardia isn’t weak in this route, despite the aforementioned rescues, but since it is the one most focused on her own problems she doesn’t feel quite as fierce as she does in the other routes. The love story is good, but somewhat too preordained. I actually like Lupin better as a loyal friend for Cardia than a lover.

Next up…. either Fran or Van…. probably Fran. His route suffered badly from the order I played Guardian of Rebirth. I’d like to give him his moment without being overshadowed so badly!

“Taking place after the events of the first game, follow the main protagonist Cardia as she continues to build friendships and deeper relationships. Her companions have helped her through her previous trials and tribulations, and she will rely on them more heavily as she faces the lingering demons of her past.

The story begins with the main character, Cardia, isolated and alone in a mansion on the outskirts of a 19th century steampunk version of London. A victim of a mysterious affliction that makes her blood a virulent poison and her touch instantly lethal, Cardia is shunned as a monster.

Through a number of events both grand and seemingly insignificant, Cardia is pursued by the Royal Guard, kidnapped by the gentleman thief Arsène Lupin, and joined by a myriad of other handsome figures out of the best of western literature. With her newfound friends (and suitors) Cardia ventures out in the world to unravel the mysteries surrounding her very existence.”
