Why Choose Evening Dress Hire?
Opting for evening dress hire instead of buying can be a game-changer for your budget. Evening dress hire allows you to enjoy high-quality, stylish dresses at a fraction of the purchase price. Here’s why evening dress hire is a smart choice:
Cost-Effective: Evening dress hire is more affordable than buying a new dress.
Variety: Access to a wide range of styles and designers.
Convenience: Easy to find formal dress hire near you.
Sustainability: Renting is eco-friendly compared to buying new.

When searching for the perfect evening dress, keep these tips in mind:
Plan Ahead: Start your search for evening dress hire well in advance. This gives you more options and time to find the perfect dress.
Know Your Measurements: Accurate measurements help ensure that the dress fits perfectly.
Research Local Options: Look for evening dress hire options in your area. For instance, search for “formal dress hire near me” in locations like Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Geelong, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth, Sunshine Coast, and Sydney.

more complaining but easier for me to ignore/funnier:
toured a rental for slaw; it looked great! i really hope she gets it! not going to get my hopes up though! super cute and bright and well maintained upstairs (the kitchen even has a skylight!), and there's an attached garage and a pretty clean walk-out basement below, and the owner seems conscientious. that part wasn't a problem!
took a video of it to send to slaw, sent it, went about my day. a few hours later, unprompted, their parents started sending anxious texts about the basement, and then had a three-way call with us and slaw. "[slaw], you said you didn't want laundry in the basement!" "no, you didn't want me to have laundry in the basement."
#they're like: ohhhhh [slaw] needs to apply at [that big apartment building]!#i've toured [that big apartment building] because i considered living there. it's okay.#notably: i chose to live somewhere else.#the units are small & dim; the windows don't open; the immediate location kinda sucks (trafficky & loud)#i'm glad there's 4 or 5 other big apartment buildings in walking distance she could apply to instead#i don't know why y'all are so fixated on her applying to that specific building#no clue why we keep having 3 way calls about it#like... why are they spending so much time on each rental. she's 90% going to be rejected. just submit the application and move on.#i was going to ask 'why are they even involved at all? we're the ones who're going to help pay for it!' but#i guess it's very wire mother vs cloth mother#they are normally very nice but wow they are struggin' with this non-midwestern housing i think

Redoing my pinned post time yippee!! Hello! I’m Void and welcome to my blog! Here’s a few things to know about me
- 18+
- Agender (It/Its)
- AroAce
- Disabled (Autistic + other stuff I don’t feel like mentioning)
- Born and raised Catholic (baptized by my own grandfather actually!), currently something akin to agnostic but I still have Thoughts and Feelings about the Bible/Christian mythos so that’s liable to show up around here on occasion
This is my more horror-focused blog alongside being my Fallen London one - it’s likely you’ll see me reblogging spooky stuff. I don’t usually tag things because I’m forgetful but if you want/need me to tag something feel free to dm me or send an anon, I promise I don’t mind in the slightest!
Speaking of Fallen London! I have various FL OCs, but my primary one/the one I have an account for is Idris Nightlocke/Mr. Trinkets! They have their own post here if you want to see their ref sheet (made by my wonderful partner) and learn more about them, and if you want even more info they also have their own tags in #idris nightlocke and #mr trinkets
I have other OCs too but they don’t have associated accounts and I post about them a lot less (anxiety is a bastard haha) but I’m working on doing so more! They are, in no particular order:
- The Cloth-Clad Weaver (She/Her, Tomb-colonist, alive since the Third City and keeps on living out of spite. Runs a small tailoring business in which she does everything by hand, her work being of a high quality despite her very advanced age)
- The Grieving Rebel/Marion Red (He/Him, Human, Urchin turned Revolutionary who was left disabled after the Constables raided the base of his small revolutionary sect and killed all his friend/comrades - him only surviving by sheer luck. Taken in by the Jovial Contrarian and currently works as one of his staffers/employees)
- The Viric-Glazed Assassin/Jessie King (Any/All, Human [Fingerking Possessed], Originally from the Surface before an accident led to them falling into Parabola and becoming a servant of the Fingerkings. Has little to no memories of their past, and due to the influence of their masters is extremely loyal to them)
- The Bejeweled Captain/August Riva (He/Him, Human, Originally from the Surface before his "best friend" (see above) was in an accident, due to a combination of denial + strange dreams he set out for the Neath to try and find them. Has been looking for them for years, but in the meantime has also become a zailor/pirate as he struggled to find any leads)
-The Altered Deviless/Belladona (She/They, Devil, The subject of a red-science experiment, she now grows Exile’s Roses and other hellish flowers from her own body, allowing her own colony of Lamplighter Bees to develop Prisoner’s Honey within London. The procedure has had other effects on their body as well, such as having to maintain their blooms lest their body become overgrown, and draining themself of the honey that builds up within them)
- The Rental Bridegroom/Silken Socialite (They/It, Clothes-Colony, An ambitious being determined to make a name for themself in the Palace despite their species. While it presents itself publicly as the Silken Socialite, behind the scenes it works as the Rental Bridegroom - willing to partake in sham marriages for the young upper crust facing pressure from their families to settle down, but not actually wanting too. While it provides a variety of services, marriage is the primary one, in exchange for money and favors to help further the status of its public persona)
And that’s all of them (for now)! Thank you for taking the time to read all of this - feel free to ask me any questions about them, and enjoy my blog!
#intro post#intro pin#pinned post#idris nightlocke#mr trinkets#the cloth-clad weaver#the grieving rebel#the viric-glazed assassin#the bejeweled captain#the altered deviless#the rental bridegroom#<- the tags for posts about/relating to my various ocs

respectfully, i’m gonna need dior to stop putting jq in suits that are so baggy that it looks like he’s a child playing dress-up with his dad’s clothes.
#i’m assuming dior sent him that suit to wear bc that’s what brands often do w/ celebs when they invite them to sit front row at their shows#like please#dior#get this man’s measurements AND USE THEM CORRECT#the whole thing about suits is that they look nicer if they’re fitted because that suggests that you’ve got the $$ to:#1) buy the suit and not just rent it#and 2) get the suit properly tailored#i get that fashion is try to move away from typical old money things to make their clothes seem more approachable and modern#but like… if the price tag on that suit is more than a couple hundred bucks… then at least make it look better than thrifted suits/rentals#like c’mon#could’ve just got a women’s blazer from & matched it with men’s suit pants that are a size too big#and you could’ve gotten both pieces from salvation army/goodwill

Being able to sew your own clothes may not be the most accessible things (especially sustainably) but I will forever be an advocate for being able to MEND your own clothes
Even if it’s a kinda ugly whip stitch on the inside of your shirt or a ladder stitch to adjust the size of some jeans or a mismatching patch on the sole of your socks— literally anything that’ll make your clothes last longer, even if it just means they’ll last long enough for you to give it away to someone else
And then when it can no longer be mended, use it to mend other clothes
#rambles in tags#you don’t even have to know how to do fancy shit like darning even though it might be useful#anything to delay those clothes from hitting the landfill#also give clothes you don’t want to people you know or charity shops (or I guess thrift shops lol)#also preferably get them from there too but also buying new from small businesses too is good#this is my occasional ‘LEARN HOW TO FIX SHIT AND MAKE YOUR SHIT LAST LONGER’ rant#there is a learning curve and it’s still not the most accessible thing- especially for other physically disabled people#(especially if you don’t have the money for a sewing machine or any rental or free to use machines in your area)#and you’re definitely not a bad person if you can’t do this shit#but if you are able! do it! learn the basics!#tbh even if it just means using some heat and bond or fabric glue!#slow fashion#🪲

Just tallied up the total costs of all materials and equipment used in for my TriStamp Vash cosplay 😬😬😬 You guys get one guess each
Fortunately since I'm a slow crafter and it was made across six months, the actual spend per month cost isn't too bad. Some stuff like equipment, the wig cap, some materials can also be re-used across projects, so that's also good.
...Not that I'm particularly planning on being cost effective for the next project. Do you think big mechanical wings are going to be CHEAP to make? Dream on. My slow crafting will once again save my wallet in spreading out the costs :)
#the thing about me. is i am both stingy in some ways. and impulsive on bigger purchases in other ways.#eg 90% of my clothes is from second hand charity stores and i very rarely buy food while out and about#really only if i'm out at an event or with friends.#otherwise I just resist until i get home for the ultimately cheaper option of Food At Home.#like the days I forget to bring lunch to work and just sustain myself on the meagre offerings of biscuits and fruit available in the kitche#instead of buying from the many nearby options#and i refuse to replace electronics until they are BROKEN for real#shout out to my 5 year old phone that's got terrible battery life now#and my... 8? 8 year old headphones. babey when those break I will be upset.#BUT THEN IN OTHER WAYS?????#all my anime figurine purchases????? the expensive bedside table I got earlier this year????#some of my cosplay materials?????? why did i buy kinda expensive iron-on patches for the jacket without hesitation....#don't worry about it. i'm still good at saving money at least. very strict in setting a portion of my income aside#yes i am very lucky to be able to do that. i will continue to live with my beloved mother until uhhh the Australian housing/rental crisis#and cost of living crises improves. if that ever happens. or the situation otherwise changes i suppose.#anyway. cheers for reading my effusive ramblings in my tags. tumblr is my diary and I'm subjecting you to it.#ramblings of a bystander#a bystander makes cosplay

Homemaking, gardening, and self-sufficiency resources that won't radicalize you into a hate group
It seems like self-sufficiency and homemaking skills are blowing up right now. With the COVID-19 pandemic and the current economic crisis, a lot of folks, especially young people, are looking to develop skills that will help them be a little bit less dependent on our consumerist economy. And I think that's generally a good thing. I think more of us should know how to cook a meal from scratch, grow our own vegetables, and mend our own clothes. Those are good skills to have.
Unfortunately, these "self-sufficiency" skills are often used as a recruiting tactic by white supremacists, TERFs, and other hate groups. They become a way to reconnect to or relive the "good old days," a romanticized (false) past before modern society and civil rights. And for a lot of people, these skills are inseparably connected to their politics and may even be used as a tool to indoctrinate new people.
In the spirit of building safe communities, here's a complete list of the safe resources I've found for learning homemaking, gardening, and related skills. Safe for me means queer- and trans-friendly, inclusive of different races and cultures, does not contain Christian preaching, and does not contain white supremacist or TERF dog whistles.
Homemaking/Housekeeping/Caring for your home:
Making It by Kelly Coyne and Erik Knutzen [book] (The big crunchy household DIY book; includes every level of self-sufficiency from making your own toothpaste and laundry soap to setting up raised beds to butchering a chicken. Authors are explicitly left-leaning.)
Safe and Sound: A Renter-Friendly Guide to Home Repair by Mercury Stardust [book] (A guide to simple home repair tasks, written with rentals in mind; very compassionate and accessible language.)
How To Keep House While Drowning by KC Davis [book] (The book about cleaning and housework for people who get overwhelmed by cleaning and housework, based on the premise that messiness is not a moral failing; disability and neurodivergence friendly; genuinely changed how I approach cleaning tasks.)
Gardening
Rebel Gardening by Alessandro Vitale [book] (Really great introduction to urban gardening; explicitly discusses renter-friendly garden designs in small spaces; lots of DIY solutions using recycled materials; note that the author lives in England, so check if plants are invasive in your area before putting them in the ground.)
Country/Rural Living:
Woodsqueer by Gretchen Legler [book] (Memoir of a lesbian who lives and works on a rural farm in Maine with her wife; does a good job of showing what it's like to be queer in a rural space; CW for mentions of domestic violence, infidelity/cheating, and internalized homophobia)
"Debunking the Off-Grid Fantasy" by Maggie Mae Fish [video essay] (Deconstructs the off-grid lifestyle and the myth of self-reliance)
Sewing/Mending:
Annika Victoria [YouTube channel] (No longer active, but their videos are still a great resource for anyone learning to sew; check out the beginner project playlist to start. This is where I learned a lot of what I know about sewing.)
Make, Sew, and Mend by Bernadette Banner [book] (A very thorough written introduction to hand-sewing, written by a clothing historian; lots of fun garment history facts; explicitly inclusive of BIPOC, queer, and trans sewists.)
Sustainability/Land Stewardship
Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer [book] (Most of you have probably already read this one or had it recommended to you, but it really is that good; excellent example of how traditional animist beliefs -- in this case, indigenous American beliefs -- can exist in healthy symbiosis with science; more philosophy than how-to, but a great foundational resource.)
Wild Witchcraft by Rebecca Beyer [book] (This one is for my fellow witches; one of my favorite witchcraft books, and an excellent example of a place-based practice deeply rooted in the land.)
Avoiding the "Crunchy to Alt Right Pipeline"
Note: the "crunchy to alt-right pipeline" is a term used to describe how white supremacists and other far right groups use "crunchy" spaces (i.e., spaces dedicated to farming, homemaking, alternative medicine, simple living/slow living, etc.) to recruit and indoctrinate people into their movements. Knowing how this recruitment works can help you recognize it when you do encounter it and avoid being influenced by it.
"The Crunchy-to-Alt-Right Pipeline" by Kathleen Belew [magazine article] (Good, short introduction to this issue and its history.)
Sisters in Hate by Seyward Darby (I feel like I need to give a content warning: this book contains explicit descriptions of racism, white supremacy, and Neo Nazis, and it's a very difficult read, but it really is a great, in-depth breakdown of the role women play in the alt-right; also explicitly addresses the crunchy to alt-right pipeline.)
These are just the resources I've personally found helpful, so if anyone else has any they want to add, please, please do!
