"The reason Sly's family is so diverse and hails from all over the globe isn't by choice. It was because they were constantly on the run from Clockwerk. Staying in one place for too long would probably be a death sentence."

Clockwerk's Ruminations
Tumblr media
Art by @slightly-gay-pogohammer
He had awoken on a strange beach, in a strange body. When he opened his eyes, it was as if he was looking at his own corpse. It had been harrowing to watch as his priceless cybernetic body eroded in a matter of seconds. The metallic frame had withstood being submerged in lava, but in an ironic twist of fate, looked as if it was corroding in the tranquil waters of the Seine. That his own mind hadn't perished as well following the destruction of the Hate Chip, proved that there were still mysteries to that amalgamation of technology and sorcery that not even he fully comprehended. It had now been weeks since the transfer of minds. He had managed by scavenging his way through the Parisian underground, and eventually found an abandoned and decrepit hostel in the 19th district that he had made his abode. It had been difficult (not to mention demeaning) to adjust to eating and drinking again; He hadn't been metaphorical when he had told his sworn enemies that he had survived for hundreds of years on a diet of jealousy and hate. One thing that had come easy to him was killing over said food and drink. The claws of his new body were not too dissimilar to the talons he had possessed in his youth, and made for adequate weapons. This very evening he had to fight a homeless canine for a piece of fast-food, and though his condition made the struggle harder than it should have been, he had triumphed nonetheless. While the hunger for revenge still growled within, his physical hunger had been satiated, and he returned to the hostel to rest and reflect upon his situation. The rags he had been wearing were worn by weather, blood and other bodily substances, and in dire need of replacement. For now he was willing to forgo clothing entirely.
As he began to undress himself, he turned to a nearby mirror. He took a moment to examine his new body. Had he been any other base being of carnal desires, he might've considered her attractive. There was a sinewy strength to these slender limbs. Lithe athletic muscles hidden under violet fur. Whoever this Neyla-person had been, she had possessed an acrobatic physique that would've rivaled many of the Coopers that he had faced. If the police-reports were to be believed, she was also a skilled manipulator. She had been able to play the Cooper-gang, Interpol, and her fellow Klaww-gang members against each other, all for her own personal benefit. An admirable intellect indeed. And yet, despite all her guile she had dared trespass within his exalted frame. Foolish tigress! No being may inhabit Clockwerk’s immortal body but himself. Were it not for her meddling, he might have regained control of his old body, and he wouldn't find himself in this unfortunate conundrum right now! The fur was soft to the touch. It wasn't quite like the plumage of chestnut feathers he had possessed in his youth, yet it still conjured an almost nostalgic feeling in him. There was a comforting warmth radiating from a body of flesh and blood. One not found in a frame of cold ageless metal. How long had it been since the last time he had inhabited an organic body? How many centuries? This body was still young, in it's prime. Truth be told, he wouldn't mind spending a few more weeks in it. A few more years even... No. He could not allow himself to be carried away by that temptation. Exquisite as it might be, this body would eventually grow old and die like any other. His last brush with death had been dangerously close. He hadn't lived for this long to simply allow himself to end like some lesser mortal. He had survived for centuries, millenia! He had witnessed as environments change and adapt to the times. He had seen entire species go extinct only for new ones to take their place. He had seen empires rise and fall, but he had outlived all of them! He had outlived the Pharaohs, the Shoguns, the Czars! He would outlive the Coopers as well! He would outlive the universe itself if he had to! He would create a new frame, and a new Hate Chip. One more resilient than his last one. He had done it before, he could do it again. The jaws of Ammit would not catch up with him this time! Not now! Not ever! Clockwerk is eternal! Clockwerk is superior!
______________________________________________________________
For a few years now, I've made several attempts at writing a Sly-fanfiction, that was meant to serve as a proper sequel to Honor among Thieves. However, I decided to abandon the project, when it became obvious I was never going to finish it. There was however ONE chapter in particular that I was actually quite proud of, and thought it could stand on it's own. This is that chapter (with a few adjustments)
If it wasn't obvious, the premise here is that during the climax of Sly 2 Clockwerk's persona overtook Neyla's mind, and her body was ejected from the frame. So what we're dealing with here is essentially a reverse Clock-la; Clockwerk's mind trapped in Neyla's body (a Neyl-werk if you will)
My original implementation of this plot point in the fanfic was even more convoluted, but standing on its own, I think it really holds up.
Clockwerk returning is a common feature of Sly-fanfics, and a pretty contentious one. On one hand, it sort of undermines the entire plot of Sly 2, which was all about destroying Clockwerk for good. On the other hand, Clockwerk is a really cool villain, and I want to see more of him. Trapping him in Neyla's body was a satisfying compromise I thought, as it allowed me to explore his mentality and worldview, while still honoring the events of Sly 2, along with putting him in an interesting disadvantaged situation.
I hope you enjoyed it!
Once again, big thanks to @slightly-gay-pogohammer for the accompanying artwork.

I'm streaming the Sly Cooper games for a friend, and the brainrot is really hitting me. We're at the end of Sly 2 now, and I think Sly 2 might be reclaiming its place as my #1 favorite game ever, it's just so fun, clever, and well put together, and I'm shocked that 20 years later I'm still finding stuff I never noticed while playing. For instance, I did not know you could get spotted by Clock-La who actually attacks you via bombing robo egg helicopters at you (I maybe knew this and forgot but I feel like I just never caught this one).
With the 20th anniversary just under a month away, I wonder if I should do something fun for it or like a big retrospective or something. I still have my original copy, and I still remember the day I got it (actually a day after the release date because they didn't have copies in my town for some reason...)

Other people: *mocking the assumed foolishness and negligence of Clockwerk to knowingly pull a Batman’s parents on Sly Cooper* *complaining about what is assumed to be a cheap writing excuse to explain Sly’s survival of the Fiendish’s Five’s attack on his home*
Me: But actually? No? It wouldn’t have been smarter on Clockwerk’s part to “finish the job” with Sly back then. Clockwerk pigeonholed himself into a fruitless job that is not meant to be finished.
Like if you really want to ponder on it, Clockwerk could be forced, in a way, to ensure the continuation of the cooper line, not the end of it. When you define and depend your whole existence on that which you hate, what do you have left when the object of your ire is no more? Clockwork would have died if his hate was ever allowed to diminish or find resolution. He’s like a ghost bound only to his power and body by a single remaining tether, and that tether is the drive to tread on the grave of the Cooper Clan’s legacy.
He doesn’t loathe them personally, he hates everything they represent and stand for, because he once envied it to the point of madness. That’s why he sundered the Thievious Raccoonus and left our Cooper untouched. He told you so himself. Notice how coincidentally the attack was timed on the very day Sly was meant to inherit the book? It was all about letting the boy learn what it meant to be a Cooper and then ripping away from him the access to everything his ancestors learned and built to help him carry that torch.
This gamble of his, this experiment he planned out that involved letting Connor’s son escape the slaughter, that’s the way he keeps himself going while staring down the barrel of the only real threat to his immortality. Killing them all, he reckoned in his centuries of reflection, wouldn’t fulfill his vendetta. He wanted to prove without any shadow of doubt that there was nothing about the Coopers that made them inherently superior to him- who himself was once only an owl. He was after their reputation. Murder was one of many methods, but complete humiliation was the actual goal. Clockwerk was probably snickering to himself all the way from the volcano for years, giddy at the thought of this child he reduced from the son of a master thief to an orphaned pauper. What he wanted was for Sly to live on… live on and be the last pathetic, miserable shred of the Cooper memory that Clockwerk could compare himself to once he has achieved everything him and the Five had set out to accomplish.
Giving their line the final glory of a tragic and sudden end like that after one unlucky slip of Connor’s vigilance was more than he could stomach. His greatest enemies don’t deserve to be remembered with that honor intact. Had Sly moved on and done literally anything else with his life but successfully take up that mantle and reap revenge, then the bird would have won. He would have never been bothered again by the owl either, I bet. Clockwerk just had to take that (astronomically unlikely) risk to see the boy’s potential through. It’s the only reason that dark force has kept him going literally up to and through the second game.

"If we ever get a Sly 5, I hope the villain is Clockwerk. We saw very little of him and, since it involves time travel, it's the perfect opportunity to take revenge, right?"

Rose Cooper: A shadow in the window
A Sly Cooper fanfiction for @thepromptfoundry event Prompts that go bump in the night day 7 A Shadow in the Window featuring my Slyfox fankid Rose Cooper.
As little ten years old Rose Cooper try to sleep during the thunderstorm, the blue hair and yellow fur racoon/fox hybrid girl move around in her bed, feeling something bad is going to happened if she goes to sleep. Rose turn to her window and she see bright yellow eyes look right at her from the window, and there was a brief flash to show that the eyes belong to a giant winged creature on the tree. Scared, Rose quickly got out of her bed and the raccoon/fox girl run with nothing but the pink pajamas she have on to her parents bedroom, where her two younger brothers, seven years old John and three years old Robert, are sleeping with their parents the male raccoon Sly Cooper and the female fox Carmelita, which the older raccoon said to Rose as she run up to him, "Hey, our little thief is scare of the thunderstorm." Rose said to her father, "I... I saw a monster looking in my window, daddy." and Sly pick Rose up to the bed and he said to his daughter, "Don't worry, Rose. Daddy can make the monster go away." and he start to get up from the bed as Rose ask, "You are going to make the monster fly away, daddy?" Sly pause for a moment as he and Carmelita was surprised at hearing, which made Sly nervous and he ask his daughter, "What did you just said, Rose?" and Rose reply as she think back, "I... I saw.... the monster... have wings... glowing yellow eyes.... it look like... like a big bird... a big monster bird...." Sly start worried about his daughter and climb onto the bed and said to Rose, "Then, I guess you can sleep with mommy and me for tonight." As Rose soon fall to sleep, Carmelita ask her husband, "Sly.... you don't think.... it should not be possible... I destroy that chip of his.... we saw his remains turn to rust...." and Sly said to Carmelita, "I got a scared feeling that Clockwerk may have a backup body...."
Outside the Cooper house, a metal owl flew out during the thunderstorm and said to himself, "NOT YET, COOPER! I WILL GET MY REVENGE LATER! AT LEAST YOUR CHILDREN NOW KNEW, LIKE YOU DID, THAT I WILL COME FOR THEM WHEN THEY BECOME OLDER! CLOCKWERK IS SUPERIOR!"
