Climate strike week 238. STOP COP CITY | DEFEND THE FOREST EVERYWHERE ✊❤️🔥🙏🌎✊ “New Yorkers demand Chase terminate all associations with police foundations, and condemn the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center project #StopCopCity. Chase has a long history of racist business activities: In 2011, it gave $4.6 mil to militarize the NYPD; former and current employees treated poorly because of the color of their skin, customers from marginalized communities denied service at branches and are given limited access to credit. Chase is the largest financier of fossil fuels in the world. Chase continues to fund fossil fuel expansion proiects that devastate the environment and violate human rights, particularly Indigenous Rights From Lenapehoking to the Weelaunee Forest, we stand in solidarity with forest defenders. “Loss and Damage”
South Sudan has been plagued by political violence and instability since its independence from Sudan in 2011. Now it is experiencing massive floods for the fourth consecutive year. Since 2019, unprecedented rainy seasons have submerged large parts of the country’s landscape.
Heavy rains and floods have swept away people’s homes, properties, crops, livestock, schools and healthcare centres, and caused extensive infrastructural damage to roads and bridges.
The climate crisis is bringing further challenges to this already vulnerable country.

Scientists now predict the Earth has a 66 percent chance of hitting 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) of warming over pre-industrial levels between now and 2027—and a 98 percent chance of the five-year period as a whole being the hottest on record. 1.5 degrees Celsius is a key climate threshold 🌡

Friendly reminder that the whole “your personal carbon footprint” was made up by an oil company to gaslight you.
Don’t listen to the big corporations, boycott and harass politicians to make a difference in our battle with climate change.

Global warming
Global warming is the long-term warming of the planet's overall temperature. Though this warming trend has been going on for a long time, its pace has significantly increased in the last hundred years due to the burning of fossil fuels. As the human population has increased, so has the volume of fossil fuels burned.

How Can We Prevent Climate Grief?
Preventing or mitigating climate grief, also known as eco-anxiety or climate-related psychological distress, is a growing concern as the impacts of climate change become more apparent. Mental health support, such as counseling through platforms like TalkToAngel, can play a significant role in addressing these feelings. Here are some strategies to prevent climate grief and how counseling services can assist:
1. Climate Education and Awareness:
Knowledge is power. Understanding climate change, its causes, and its potential solutions can help individuals feel more empowered and less helpless. Mental health professionals can provide guidance on where to find reliable information and resources.
2. Take Positive Action:
Actively engaging in climate-friendly activities can provide a sense of purpose and control. Counselors can help individuals identify ways to reduce their carbon footprint and get involved in environmental initiatives.
3. Emotional Expression:
Talking about climate-related concerns and feelings is essential. Counselors can create a safe and non-judgmental space for individuals to express their emotions, whether it’s fear, grief, anger, or frustration.
4. Mindfulness and Coping Techniques:
“Online Counselor” can teach mindfulness and relaxation techniques to manage stress and anxiety related to climate change. These practices can help individuals stay grounded and reduce overwhelming emotions.
5. Eco-Therapy:
Some therapists specialize in eco-therapy, which involves outdoor activities and nature-based interventions to promote mental well-being. Being in nature can help alleviate eco-anxiety.

Overcoming the Plastic Waste Crisis - A Multifaceted Approach Needed to Drive Change
The plastic waste crisis has escalated to a critical level, with an overwhelming amount of waste accumulating in our oceans, landfills, and ecosystems. The consequences of our dependence on plastics are becoming increasingly evident, impacting not only the environment but also public health, biodiversity, climate change, and human rights. Despite the urgency of the situation, many companies have been slow to take action. Consequently, a coalition of investors, managing $10tn in assets, is urging major companies like The Coca-Cola Company, Unilever, Amazon, PepsiCo, and McDonald's to take "urgent action" and significantly reduce their plastic footprint.
While investor pressure is undeniably essential in combatting plastic waste, it represents only one aspect of a comprehensive, long-term solution. To encourage companies to take more action on tackling plastic waste, we must first identify the underlying factors contributing to this crisis and implement multifaceted strategies that focus on several key areas where change can make a significant impact.
Firstly, governments should establish a robust regulatory framework by implementing stricter regulations and guidelines to limit plastic production and consumption. Enforcing these rules will compel companies to seek sustainable alternatives and reduce their reliance on single-use plastics. Furthermore, governments should incentivise research and development of eco-friendly materials and packaging solutions.
Secondly, investors and financial institutions should continue using their influence to encourage companies to adopt sustainable business models. By withholding investments or offering financial incentives, such as lower interest rates for companies with strong environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance, they can guide businesses towards reducing their plastic footprint.
Thirdly, the power of consumer choice is a force that should not be underestimated. Raising awareness of the plastic waste crisis and encouraging consumers to vote with their wallets will make companies more inclined to adopt environmentally friendly practices. Social media campaigns, educational initiatives, and grassroots movements can play a crucial role in shifting public opinion and consumer behaviour.
Fourthly, companies should be encouraged to adopt a circular economy model, which emphasises reducing material consumption, reusing and recycling resources, and minimising waste. By doing so, they can lessen their environmental impact and create a more sustainable future.
Lastly, transparency and accountability are paramount. Companies must be open about their plastic usage and waste management strategies, enabling consumers and investors to hold them accountable for their actions. This can be achieved through regular reporting, third-party audits, and public commitments to reduce plastic waste.
In conclusion, the responsibility to address the plastic waste crisis lies with all stakeholders, including governments, investors, companies, and consumers. By working together and adopting a multifaceted approach, we can encourage companies to make significant strides in reducing their plastic footprint, paving the way for a more sustainable world for future generations.

Emergency, save the planet, my arse!
I am so bored and, quite frankly, sick to death of these arrogant, cult-like, and conceited, adult nappy-qualifying lunatics who now incessantly proselytise their armageddon scenario of the world, and often wonder if they're the generational hereditary screw-up of those who spouted that the same world we all inhabit would come to an end at the stroke of midnight 2000. Yet, by no means of a miracle, here we are twenty-three years later. Who'd have thought it?
I fully admit to being extremely unkind to them because there's quite frankly no accounting for stupidity, and well, they deserve it as they've set themselves up to become targets. Where they are concerned it's such a shame that stocks and pillories are no longer fashionable or the television programmes audiences of 'Love Island' and 'I'm a Celebrity...' would plummet exponentially if these clowns were televised being hit with rotten fruit and verbally abused in the same way. Apart from this, of course, I wish each and every one of them nothing but peace and love, and potentially at least a change or two of clown, or better still, jester costumes for when they're out and about causing inconvenience by means of public nuisance.
They talk of saving lives while thinking nothing of jeopardising emergency services as well as folk getting to hospital appointments for cancer treatment or dialysis. Let's not forget those who will be late and lose work as well as income by being inconvenienced. I could go on but don't feel it necessary as I'm sure you know the story yourself by now. I've listened to their verbal spoutings on the radio and not once have I heard an intelligent intelligent broadcast by any representative. In fact, most would present themselves in such a way that by comparison, two short planks would appear to be the most sophisticated computer system in the world.
Why? Good question. Well, let's begin with the fact that everything, whether human, animal, vegetable, fauna or flora has a finite life, and goes through the cycle of being created, living, and then dying, with our lovely planet being no exception, and on which, I might add, we humans are no more than tenants at best, guests even.
Thus far, our lovely little place in the wider galaxy managed to survive perfectly well for around four billion years without us until we came along, and within 200,000 years of our existence, everything goes tits up because humanity couldn't organise a global piss up in a brewery with an instruction manual if it tried. Now, by virtue of the fact that this planet also has a lifespan that's estimated to be a couple of billion years, give or take, humanity will be over and done long before that. As to how I've worked this out you'll just have to buy my book and read for yourself. No spoiler alerts here as I have to earn my 78p per book author payment somehow.
Okay, to the nitty-gritty it is then. Having established that everything has a finite lifespan of born, live, and die, and has done for billions of years pre our existence and will continue to do so, or we'd all be popping down to Dartmoor for a jolly Sunday jaunt to see the dinosaurs, this bullshit, half-baked idea of (a) saving the planet and, (b) saving humanity is as deluded as any stretch of the imagination can ever possibly make it, unless of course you just happen to be the darling of Hollywood movie makers with a budget of millions, and then, of course, anything is possible.
However, for the likes of you and me whose budgets stretch as far as keeping a roof over our heads and putting food on the table the notion of glueing ourselves to the tarmac, for example, because somehow we believe it to be for the sake of our grandchildren is la-la land illogical unless somehow, and quite miraculously we imagine possessing such superpowers that we can see into the future long after we are dead. Yet again, something that in movie land would be a viable proposition for any scriptwriter while for the rest of us, however, is pure bullshit.
You see, while my corpse is busily providing fodder for all manner of subterranean organisms I can promise you I'll be too far gone to give a flying fart with regards to what's happening above the surface where my successors are concerned. Oh, but wait! Why aren't I thinking about this now? Because logically while I'm busily feeding the worms my offspring's offspring may die pre-birth, during birth, after birth, at two years old, twenty years old, or fifty years old from any manner of means and ways by accident or ill-health. That's how it works. So, anyone who says they are protesting in the present for the sake of their children is either a liar to themselves or a deluded wishful thinker.
Although not exclusive to us humans we have species survival built into our DNA, and so when faced with a life or death situation we'll find every bit of strength within us to kick arse and come out of the situation victoriously alive, as we would fight for our children, and this my friends is the crux of it. Because if we don't survive neither does our lineage, and if our children or grandchildren don't survive for whatever reason that may arise our lineage bites the dust. Kaput, gone, finito. Family history and future closed.
Consequently, whenever I read about or hear one of these eco, oil or other equally idiotic protesters spewing their puerile protestations about how they are doing it for the sake of their offspring, and offspring's offspring, my immediate reaction is 'LIAR!' - you're actually protesting for your own selfish, longer-term lineage interests, but won't admit it because your head is so far up your own rear end with conceit and arrogance you fail to accept that life is not ours to own infinitely: nothing lasts forever; the planet will still be here long after humanity has gone; and like it, or not, if you're naive enough to believe you'll win a battle against a much bigger and tougher world order with your childlike petulant demands I suggest you should first congregate at the base of Niagra Falls and try pushing the water back up to the top and see how well you do with this before moving on to bigger things.
