Climate strike week 238. STOP COP CITY | DEFEND THE FOREST EVERYWHERE ✊❤️🔥🙏🌎✊ “New Yorkers demand Chase terminate all associations with police foundations, and condemn the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center project #StopCopCity. Chase has a long history of racist business activities: In 2011, it gave $4.6 mil to militarize the NYPD; former and current employees treated poorly because of the color of their skin, customers from marginalized communities denied service at branches and are given limited access to credit. Chase is the largest financier of fossil fuels in the world. Chase continues to fund fossil fuel expansion proiects that devastate the environment and violate human rights, particularly Indigenous Rights From Lenapehoking to the Weelaunee Forest, we stand in solidarity with forest defenders. As a Finn I am ashamed of how we treat Saami people. I wish we and other Nordic countries and Russia would give lands of the Saami people back to those who it belongs to, and who are most capable of respecting and restoring the Northern nature.

You can help by spreading the word of this human rights violation happening in Finland!

Help the Sámi people protect their ancestral lands from deforestation!
The following text is copy-pasted from https://www.mittskifte.org/petitions/standwithluoktamavas:
Indigenous people’s ancestral land is threatened by Europe’s largest logging company.
Europe's largest logging company, Government-owned Sveaskog, plans to harvest the last remaining natural forests in Luokta-Mávas Sámi reindeer herding district, in the northern part of Sweden. The indigenous Sámi people have been living on these lands for thousands of years, proven by archaeological traces in the now threatened forests.
The elders have always said that as long as the reindeer can live here, so can we. Now we are faced with a scenario that will be crucial for the reindeer's survival, and our existence as a people. Without the forests, no life, says Sofia Jannok
One cannot clear-cut natural forests and at the same time halt the climate collapse nor honour the Paris agreement. It's impossible. But if Luokta-Mávas’ indigenous people's rights are respected, Sweden still has a fair chance to live up to the Paris Agreement. It's in their hands now.
We are not here to protest, we are here to protect. This is part of a greater #StandWithSápmi movement. Stay tuned and we will engage with you more so that we together can make our collaborative voices heard and make sure that this never happens in Sápmi again. The last remaining natural forests in Sápmi shouldn't, under any circumstances, be clear-cut.

Stop the Gállok mine! A mine would violate indigenous rights, destroy the living conditions for the different species in the area and leave many pollutants for generations to come. Sign the petition here: https://tinyurl.com/m5nvcu2f (see also link in bio of @fridaysforfuture.swe) Instead of protesting outside City Hall here in #Linköping I am taking part via #ClimateStrikeOnline for the greater good of society. Posted @withregram • @gretathunberg Yesterday I and three other activists from @fridaysforfuture.swe joined local Sami activists for a manifestation in Gállok. Here, on indigenous land, a British mining company wants to build a mine. That would be a disaster for the climate and environment. The Sami communities affected have clearly and repeatedly said no to this mine. We now await the Swedish government’s decision on whether they will allow this to happen or not. The short-term profits of a British mining company cannot be prioritised over the culture and rights of the Sámi people, as well as our climate, biodiversity and clean air and water. No matter what the people in power might claim, this mine will not be a part of a “green transition”. The time for false, neo-colonial climate “solutions” is over. The Swedish government must end the colonisation of Sápmi and the exploitation of people and nature. Sign the petition in my profile to show your support!

Stop the colonisation of the Sámi by the Swedish Government
Help stop the mine in Gállok
What is happening?
Help stop the mine in Gallok
The proposed location for the iron ore mine that British mining company Beowulf Mining wants to open is on indigenous Sámi land. The proposed mine is putting the local population, in particular the Indigenous Sámi communities, at risk. It would also negatively affect tourism, biodiversity drinking water, local businesses, and the environment indefinitely.
The decision on whether or not the British company Beowulf Mining can open this mine is now in the hands of the Swedish Government. A decision is expected within weeks.
Why is this a violation of human rights?
The Sámi communities have explicitly said no to this mine. Jähkägasska and Sirges Sámi communities will lose important grazing land, which is essential for the survival of the reindeer, and hence the entire Sámi culture and traditional way of life.
This mine is an example of the systematic colonial exploitation of Indigenous people. If this mine goes ahead, it will violate the Swedish constitution and international conventions on indigenous rights.
Why is this an environmental justice issue?
There is also a risk that heavy metals from the planned mining ponds could leak into the groundwater, as the Lule River, a source of drinking water in Northern Sweden, is directly adjacent to the planned mining area. The mine would also cause significant air pollution and an increase of heavy transports, leading to high emissions. The area is also home to great biodiversity and old-growth forest, which would be endangered by the proposed mine.
Some people are arguing that this mine is important for the 'green transition' However, iron ore is not a rare nor critical metal. A mine endangering air, water, biodiversity, Old-growth forest and reindeer grazing land could never be considered part of the green transition - it constitutes a clear example of the opposite.
#StandWithSápmi
As per the UN Declaration on the Rights of the Indigenous Peoples, Indigenous people have the right not to be subjected to forced assimilation or destruction of their culture. States must also consult and cooperate with Indigenous peoples concerned through their own representative institutions before implementing measures that may affect them
Sweden consistently gets UN criticism for violation of these rights, through their exploitation of Sámi lands for the economic gain of the forestry and mining industries. We must #Stand With Sápmi against the violation of their human rights by the Swedish state and industry.

Hello!
If you want to support the indigenous Sámi people from Sápmi (I think this might be specifically for the north of Sweden because of the Swedish logging company trying to deforest there) please visit this link and choose one or more of the ways you can help!
http://arvasfoundation.com/#!/support/
Here is a screenshot of the web page that I found in a vogue article of Sofia Jannok (singer and indigenous activist) who I’ve been following on instagram
I have personally already donated using one of the Swedish options just so you know I’m not recommending something I haven’t checked if it works
Regardless of if you can donate, please reblog or repost or spread the word to your friends and family <3
