Alessia is splayed across your sofa like an artist’s rendering of human misery. Her hoodie—an oversized navy monstrosity with a faint Arsenal logo she swore she didn’t steal from Leah—clings to her like damp moss. The grey sweatpants are worse. They’re not hers, nor are they yours. They came from the pile of clothes you were supposed to donate three years ago but never did because you thought you might need them someday. This is the day. You resent the foresight.
She’s been coughing sporadically for the past fifteen minutes, which is to say, coughing exactly every 47 seconds. You know because you’ve been counting. Alessia calls it “a tickly throat.” You call it self-inflicted.
“Stop licking your lips. You’ll make them worse,” you say, watching her smear yet another layer of cherry ChapStick over the crime scene that is her mouth.
“I have to,” she whines, drawing out the words like a five-year-old begging for a toy. Her voice is raw, a strange mix of gravel and helium.
“You don’t. You really, really don’t”
She ignores you, opting instead to roll onto her stomach in a manner that could only be described as unnecessarily dramatic. Her head flops onto the throw pillow you bought at a John Lewis clearance sale. The tag is still attached.
“I think I’m dying,” she declares, muffled by the pillow.
“You’re not dying, Less. You’ve got a runny nose and a bad attitude” you deadpan, sitting cross-legged on the rug in front of her, a bowl of soup balanced precariously on your knee. It’s the tin stuff—Heinz, chicken, condensed. She hates it. It’s why you made it.
“It’s the flu,” she says. “I Googled it”
“You can’t even spell ‘flu’ properly when you text”
“That’s because I was using my thumbs.”
“You always use your thumbs.”
“Rude.” She huffs, tugging the blanket tighter around her. It’s your favourite one, the soft grey one you bought when you first moved in together. Now it smells faintly of menthol rub and despair.
“You know, my mum used to make me this lemon and ginger tea with honey when I was sick,” she says suddenly, wistful, like she’s narrating a nature documentary.
“I’m not your mum”
“She also used to rub Vicks on my chest,” she continues, undeterred.
“Still not your mum”
There’s a pause, her blue eyes narrowing at you. “You’re actually a terrible girlfriend”
“Debatable”
She sneezes. A full-body event. You flinch, watching in real-time as her face contorts, her nose scrunching, her eyes shutting like a malfunctioning robot. The sound is seismic. You wonder if the neighbours heard it.
“Bless me,” she says automatically.
“No”
She sniffles pathetically, then gestures weakly towards the coffee table. “Can you hand me a tissue?”
You glance at the tissue box—one metre away from her outstretched hand. “No. Work for it”
Her lips twitch, the faintest flicker of a smile, but it vanishes as she rolls onto her side. “Why are you like this?”
You shrug, finishing the last spoonful of her soup. It’s cold now, congealed in a way that makes you feel vaguely ill. You wonder if this is what marriage will look like—fighting over tissues, stealing each other’s soup, and coexisting in a quiet ballet of passive-aggressive care.
As you scrape the bowl clean, Alessia shifts again, her head now hanging off the side of the sofa like some deranged bat.
“You’re so lucky I love you”
I know,” you reply, leaning over to press a kiss to her forehead. She’s warm—not feverish, just Alessia warm.
For a moment, there’s quiet. She shifts again, her head now resting on the arm of the sofa, her eyes fluttering shut. You stand to pull the blanket up higher around her shoulders and tuck it in gently.
And just before you leave the room, she murmurs, soft and sleepy, “Love you”
You smile to yourself, the words lingering in the air like a balm. “Love you too, Less”

Asking For Trouble
I wasn't sure what to write for my first post here. I haven't written for Hazbin Hotel before, but I figured what better introduction to the fandom than a literal introduction between Alastor and the reader? I've had this scene rattling around in my head for a few weeks, so I hope you enjoy it.
Pairing: Alastor x Reader
Contents: demonic summoning, Alastor being an eldritch horror, hints of gore, blood, minor self-injury (not sh)
The red paint glistens like fresh blood in the light of the candles. A dozen or more of them, scattered around your living room, resting atop the coffee table, the TV stand, melted onto the top of the bookcase and the windowsill. Thick, black candles you bought from the Halloween clearance sale at the local big box store. You don’t think colour matters, but it felt right for the occasion. If you’re going to do this, you might as well do it right.
A clear space dominates the centre of the room—all the furniture has been pushed aside, crowding up against the walls to make room. You’ve rolled up the living room rug and propped it against the stairs.
When you first moved into your basement apartment, you were dismayed to discover that it had a poured concrete floor, and that the landlord hadn’t bothered to put in carpet or laminate or even cheap lino. However, beggars couldn’t be choosers, and the rent price was such a steal, you didn’t dare question him on it in case he decided he wanted a less whiny tenant.
You have reason to be grateful for it now, though. A red pentagram painted on a wooden floor or carpet would be a quick way to make sure you never got back your security deposit. A bit of turpentine and it’ll be like this never happened.
Assuming that you’re still alive. If this even works.
The thing that started it all, a simple black notebook—some Moleskine rip-off—sits open at the edge of your circle, along with a whole mess of measuring implements. A simple protractor wasn’t good enough for something like this. You’d had to buy some stuff off the internet, and now your Amazon recommendations looked like a geometry professor’s wet dream.
And there I was, thinking 10th grade math would never get me anywhere in the real world.
You pick up the notebook, glancing between the scrawled diagrams and measurements and your own summoning circle. It looks right. It had better be, since you spent all afternoon hunched over, painting it with dollar store acrylic paints. Oh, and your life depends on it. Can’t forget that much.
The notebook is a journal of sorts. You found it behind the bookcase when you first moved in, wedged there and forgotten. The pages are covered in the feverish scrawl of a previous resident. At first you felt a little weird about reading it, but curiosity overcame any moral quandary you had in the end.
The journal outlines the three month period it took for a young writer to seemingly descend into madness as his work was rejected, over and over. As his girlfriend left him, his father died, and his life fell to pieces. He became more and more desperate, his writing growing erratic. His writing research had already led him down some occult paths, but it seemed he’d decided to pursue them even further.
Which was you’ve come to be kneeling on your living room floor, trying to summon a demon.
Taking a deep breath, you flip to the last page, where the invocation is written, the pen almost tearing through the paper in some places. It’s the last entry.
You reach out, and use your fingertips to push a plate of venison over the boundary line, into the centre of the pentagram. The meat is a dark, pinkish red, practically pulsing with blood and vitality, as the journal instructs.
Getting it necessitated a trip outside city limits to a questionable butcher in the countryside who specialised in game meat. The journal is very clear—it has to be fresh. Supermarket meat won’t cut it.
Everything is in place. There’s nothing left to do but begin.
You take a deep breath, your hands trembling slightly as you lift the journal, holding it open. You have a strange feeling of duality, that you’re both at once powerful and ridiculous. Someone tearing open the veil between worlds to seek higher (or lower) power, and someone playing pretend.
You force yourself to ignore the latter, pushing it aside and holding onto the image that what you’re doing is going to work. Faith is important, even if it isn’t invested wisely.
“Let—”
Oh, shit, you’ve forgotten a step.
Dropping the journal in your haste, you reach for the small pen knife lying at the edge of the circle. Gritting your teeth, you tighten your grip on the wooden handle, and make a small cut on the side of your thumb. Holding your fist out over the circle, you let a few beads of blood, looking almost black in the candle light, splatter the venison.
You open a bandaid and slap it over the cut, pleased you haven’t completely sliced your palm open like they do in movies. Don’t they know how long that takes to heal?
Anyway, back to the demon summoning.
“Let this offering of flesh and blood open the veil between the earthly realm and the depths of Hell,” you read aloud, your voice becoming stronger with every word.
No wonder that writer guy couldn’t get his shit published if this is how he wrote everything. Despite the stilted prose, you keep reciting it aloud, just glad it’s not in Latin, or worse, rhyming.
“I summon you, o’ Deal Maker, Keeper of Bargains, Purchaser of Souls—”
Seriously? Writer of Bullshit, more like.
“I summon you, Alastor!”
You hold your breath as the last echoes of your voice fade from the walls, waiting for something to happen. The candles continue to flicker gently, and you can hear the muted hubbub of voices from your neighbour’s TV upstairs. Your knees are starting to hurt from sitting on the floor.
Sighing, you let the journal drop to the floor. It hasn’t worked. Of course.
Why did you think this was going to work? Summoning a demon of all things—
The candles ripple as if stirred by a breath, then their flames spike upwards, rigid. The light throws shadows across the walls, but the shadows don’t move in the right way. They sway back and forth, almost in a trance, as if the room is tilting side to side.
The candle flames stretch up and up, thinning out into streamers. The golden glow dims, before blooming a bright, venal red. Your ears fill with the sound of static as the painted lines of the summoning circle begin to glow crimson. Smoke boils up from the centre into a plume of pulsing fog, backlit by the red light and twitching shadows.
Something very old, buried and half-forgotten in your DNA screams at you to run, but you’re frozen to the spot, gaping as a figure takes form within the smoke. A tall, thin silhouette, long limbs distorted. Ice seeps into your gut.
The smoke clears, leaving an apparition, a demon, in your living room. It is not the monster you expected. No red skin, no black pits for eyes, no fire and brimstone… But whatever he is, he’s definitely not human.
Stretching from floor to ceiling, he must be seven feet tall or more, with a thin, attenuated form and an inhumanly narrow waist. The demon is a vision in red, from his hair to his suit to his eyes, red on red, his pupils black slits in a sea of glowing crimson.
It’s his smile that truly terrifies you, though.
His teeth gleaming, the colour of aged ivory. Two rows of sharp, dagger-like points, ready to sink into flesh, designed to rend and tear. Whatever this creature is, death sustains him.
Red hair, tipped in black, frames his face in a short bob, and tufts up at the top in what you think might be ears. Two small, black antlers jut from the top of his head.
The static in your ears crescendos like a wave crashing over your head, and the demon’s smile widens. He hums to himself, his voice a crackle, and looks around your meagre apartment. Finally, his gaze comes to rest back on you, the most interesting thing here.
“My, my,” he says, a strange, Transatlantic twang to his voice, “it’s been a while since someone summoned me. You really know how to set the mood, don’t you? Summoning circle, candles, and what’s this?”
He leans down to pick up the plate of venison. Your blood has seeped into the meat by now, indistinguishable from the dead deer’s blood. The demon uses his gloved hand to pick up a morsel of the meat, his red eyes widening in pleasure, before popping it into his mouth like an hors d'oeuvre.
“Delicious,” he praises. “Not a bit of fat on it, either. How did you know venison is my favourite?”
Before you can answer, his gaze lights upon the abandoned journal. He lets out a chuckle that’s half radio static.
“Oh, that old thing. I should have known!” He slaps his knee in an over-the-top display of amusement. “You’re all so eager to throw yourselves into the Abyss! Humans, lemmings, what’s the difference?!”
The demon pretended to wipe a tear of mirth from his eye, before finally paying attention to you again. His grin cranked up a notch, practically splitting his face in half, and his hooded red eyes gleamed at you.
“I haven’t introduced myself. How remiss of me. The name’s Alastor. A pleasure to meet you, my dear.”
The static in his voice fuzzed out, leaving behind a raspy baritone.
“Now, what can I do for you, darling?”

What the %#€&!? kind of Vacuum kills its cord when you run over it 4x? Does it have secret undercarriage blades to accomplish that with? I run over the cable at least once per vacuuming session, and it looks as good as new. Is the cable just, like, really flimsy? Idgi. But also, after the first cable replacement, why wouldn't the customer check what caused this? *baffled greyface*
Original story.
So there's a few things at play here. I think the main one, and most important one for this story, is that I believe the customer was lying about only running it over four or five times. I believe this because customers lie all the damn time about weird stuff that doesn't really matter.
The other stuff is just a case of "welcome to the absolutely bizarre world of premium vacuum cleaners."
A good vacuum cleaner needs to do one thing, and that's get crap off the floor and into the waste trap. Generally, they do this by sucking the crap off the floor with a vacuum pump, but many are also aided by a brush roll to agitate carpet. The brush roll allows the vacuum to clean the carpet deeper with less suction. This is important for things like area rugs, where too much suction will actually pick the rug up off the ground. Second, you generally want a vacuum to be easy to use. Generally, this means that you're able to move the suction head and the brush roll easily over the floor, without it sticking or being very heavy. Technically speaking, this is all that a vacuum really needs to do. It's got to pick crap up off the floor as easily as possible.
However, once people start spending thousands of dollars on their upright vacuums, they want this feeling that they need more for their money. This includes automated things like sensors to tell the vacuum how much clearance it needs off the floor for various different carpet types, cool things like auto-retracting coords, and someone to say 'fuck it, let's give it more power than Jesus Christ at a wedding,' and just shoving the most powerful pump and the highest speed brush roll into it. Most of the time, users know that they don't NEED to put the motor and brush roll on 11, but some customers don't feel like they got their money's worth if they don't attempt to vacuum their house with a tiny hurricane.
This hits this perfect trifecta of things: the brush roll is made of stainless steel with densely-packed real boar bristles on it, and is going mach 5. The auto-sensors don't detect the cord as carpet height due to being too thin, so the brush roll is very low to the ground and is being hit by a lot of the roll. And then, when the cord retracts, this machine slurps it in with gusto. Thin or weak spots that would probably be fine for years for a normal person get damaged much more quickly when it's trying to retract a 40' long cord in 3 seconds. Also, because the cord retractor is designed for a specific thickness of cord, wrapping electrical tape around a weak spot and asking it politely to not get any worse isn't an option. If the cord gets thicker, the retractor won't work, and then how will your house maids know that you're not a peasant?
An alarmingly large number of our vacuum sales are to people who are buying premium vacuums just so their house cleaners don't have to see them owning a $100 amazon vacuum. I didn't think that there was a market of "people who buy vacuums to impress other people with their wealth" but, now that I think about it, of course there's a market for that.

Electric Touch (feat. (feat. Francisco Morales) (Val's Version)
Frankie Morales x Valerie "Songbird" Harlow (Singer Songwriter!OC) (platonic)
Santiago "Pope" Garcia x Valerie "Songbird" Harlow (Singer Songwriter!OC) (mentioned in this chapter)
Series Masterlist Part 1
Ari's Note: Finally, I finished this chapter. I took some liberties with the timeline. (In my head, the movie takes place in 2017 and this story takes place in 2019 or 2020ish.) Frankie in my head is in his late thirties, whereas Val is 31 in this story.
Deep breaths, in and out.
In and out.
“What the fuck,” I think in my head as I pace inside the home studio inside my house back in Florida, a day after the show where I ran into Santiago. My mind is racing over the kiss that he gave me the night prior. I owned the house before I started dating Santiago. A small house near a beach. When we were dating, we balanced staying with each other at both of our homes. I come from an old-fashioned family who never believed in moving in together with someone before an engagement.
Frankie comes into my home, holding two cups of coffee, one for him and one for me. His hunter-green jacket is slightly stained due to wear. His slightly brownish-gray hair is messily curled. His “Standard Heating Oil” hat always seemed attached to his head. We have known each other since childhood. He is a few years older than me; he used to babysit me when he was 10, and I was 6. We were more like siblings than friends. His child refers to me as “auntie” more than anything else.
“Kid and momma are spending the day doing a mommy playdate. I am all yours. You okay?”
“I am fine… you are late, by the way.” I sip the lukewarm, bitter coffee slowly to fully enjoy it.
“Being late for a demo session for a song that I am not even singing on.” Frankie takes a look at the home studio setup. A setup that I made when trying to get someone- anyone to recognize what I have is real. A random patterned rug that I found on clearance at West Elm. Faux-leather stools that were found at a yard sale when babysitting Frankie’s kid years prior. The only new thing is the technology given to me by the label.
“The band recorded the instrumentals back in Seattle. The label wanted to see how I would sound doing an actual love song, which is this song. I told them this song is perfect if the male vocalist is a tenor and as a duet. That is why I sent you that text with the lyrics a few days ago. This session to record the vocals and send it to the producer and the label.”
“When you told me about this, I thought you were crazy for wanting me to sing again.”
“Said the man who loved choir in high school.” He rolls his eyes. He takes off his faded trucker hat and tries to straighten his hair. His darkish gray curls are messy like always.
“That was the choir in high school, Val.” He looks at me with concern, fully knowing what happened the night prior backstage. “What happened with you and Santiago last night?”
“It was nothing,” I look over at him as I start prepping the studio for two people recording there. He grabs my arm and pulls me closer to him.
“Val, he left mid-song. I tried to find him after your set for over an hour. I had to find him nursing a beer outside the venue. I know your guys’ breakup was hard on you, but it hit him the hardest.”
“Frankie, I love you like a brother. Can we not talk about this now? I don’t want to waste your time by talking about this instead of doing the recording.” I start vocal warmups before handing him his headphones, and we go into the booth together. We both are standing in front of a microphone for each of us. I place my laptop on a nearby table with the instrumental track and pull up the recording software. He holds the notebook with the lyrics in his hand. “I will lead you in when your part comes in. Recording in 3…2…1.”
The soft country rock instrumental leads me in as I start singing. Frankie smirks the songs as he recognizes the song beat as a signature of my musical composition style.
“Just breathe, just relax, it'll be okay
Just an hour 'til your car's in the driveway
Just the first time ever hangin' out with you tonight
I've got my money on things going badly
Got a history of stories ending sadly
Still hoping that the fire won't burn me
Just one time, just one time
All I know is this could either break my heart or bring it back to life
Got a feelin' your electric touch could fill this ghost town up with life
And I want you now, wanna need you forever
In the heat of your electric touch, mmm”
Frankie’s soft tenor voice appears as I gesture him into the song. His voice is soft, yet rough. I could have been a while since he sang aloud, but he still sounded good.
“I've been left in the rain lost and pining
I'm tryin' hard not to look like I'm trying
'Cause every time I tried hard for love, it fell apart (whoa)
I've gotten used to no one callin' my phone
I've grown accustomed to sleeping alone
Still, I know that all it takes is to get it right
Just one time, just one time
All I know is this could either break my heart or bring it back to life
Got a feelin' your electric touch could fill this ghost town up with life
And I want you now, wanna need you forever
In the heat of your electric touch
I was thinking just one time (just one time)
Maybe the stars align (just one time)
And maybe I call you mine
And you won't need space
Or string me along while you decide
And just one time (just one time)
Maybe the moment's right (the moment's right)
It's 8:05 and I see two headlights
All I know is this could either break my heart or bring it back to life
Got a feelin' your electric touch (oh)
All I know is this could either break my heart or bring it back to life
Got a feelin' your electric touch could fill this ghost town up with life
And I want you now, wanna need you forever
In the heat of your electric touch, mmm”
Out of breath, I pushed the end of the recording. “Please tell me it hasn’t been a while since you sang aloud.” I take a long sip of water from my water bottle nearby.
“Three years.”
“Karaoke with Ben was the last time you sang,” I asked as I gave him a questioning look.
“Why didn’t you tell me that Santiago kissed you?” I gave him the look of “are we really talking about this right now again?”
“How did you know?” Frankie gave me a concerning look since he knows the truth.
“Based on the details in the song, this song was about your first date because you told me how much you cared for him. Plus Santiago told me that he kissed after your set after you two talked after I picked him up from the bar…. Val, what the hell happened?”
“He and I kissed… He told me about the money… his share of the money.”
“And?”
“And that his share was for me…”
“He finally told you then…”
“Frankie, don’t dabble in his bullshit…” I am getting fed up with the same fucking lie that his share was for me.
“I am not… Val, he wanted that money for you….” He sighs deeply as he takes a long sip of coffee. “I know it was shitty of me for not telling you, but I promised you I would have done the same thing.”
“I understand the guilt around Tom’s death but why did he have to do it like that?”
“He was going to buy you a ring so he could propose to you…”
“What?”
“He wanted to propose and do a big old fancy engagement for you. I am sorry that I didn’t tell you.” Frankie is concerned about what is next for me and Santiago.
I sigh as I step out of the makeshift studio so Frankie can record his audio. “I need to record your vocals, Frankie... I will start the music where your part comes in.” As the music plays, my phone buzzes. I pick it up. It is a text from Santiago.
Santiago: We need to talk. Alone.

A sneak peek of my series Sweet Nothings, a verse filled with so so many babies!
It wasn’t unusual for Ed to wake up before Stede. That was pretty much a given at this stage of their relationship – after a near lifetime of Ed rising with the sun, and just as long of Stede hiding under the covers until the absolute last possible moment, there wasn't much that was going to change that now.
They’d pretty much distilled their morning routine down to a science, Ed making sure the house (and everyone in it) were awake and out the door on time, coffees in hands and breakfasts in bellies, while Stede took closing shift, ensuring that everyone went off to sleep snug as a bug in a rug. It worked for them, and their system ran on an efficiency he wished he could instill at the marina.
It was, however, unusual for Ed to wake up before Charlotte. The kid’s circadian rhythm seemed determined to mirror Ed’s, which neither of them were necessarily complaining about, given her proclivity to (mostly) sleeping through the nights now, something they absolutely bragged about in their parenting groups. Was it a little gauche? Probably. But it wasn’t their fault that their kid just happened to be better than all of the other babies. Maybe the other babies should try not being worse than theirs.
On most mornings, she would start stirring before Ed, starting to get fussy just as he himself was rising. On most mornings, he would find her not so patiently waiting for him to free her from the confines of her crib, a truly inhumane corral, he was sure she’d tell anyone who'd listen, if she could. On most mornings, he would scoop up his deliciously chunky baby and hold her close for as long as he could until she eventually demanded the newly free use of her legs, after which point she was off, more often than not to destroy the living room.
On this morning, though, Ed slowly stirred to waking in relative silence, hearing only Stede’s soft snoring underneath him. The quiet was almost disorienting – he hadn't had a quiet morning in almost a year. Rubbing the sleep from his eyes, Ed rolled over to check the baby monitor, seeing Charlotte still curled around her stuffy, fast asleep in her crib.
There was the briefest of moments – really fucking brief, he wasn’t an actual idiot – where Ed actually debated waking her up, before he immediately decided that if he and Stede wanted any semblance of peace today, that was absolutely not the move. If Stede had a reputation for his attitudes at not getting his way, Charlotte was an actual menace to society if wronged.
They’d been told she’d grow out of it. Well, probably grow out of it (Stede clearly hadn't). Until then, it was Charlotte’s world and everyone else was just living in it.
Rolling back over, Ed nestled back into his place against Stede’s chest for another while, lingering in the steady rise and fall of his husband’s breathing under his head. From his sleep, as if on instinct, Stede’s hands shifted back around Ed’s back, holding him in-place as he let out a soft sigh.
They didn't often get these quiet morning moments together, what with their respective sleep schedules and the newly collective (delightful) chaos of rounding up one to three children on any given day. Not that Ed was complaining – he fucking loved his kids – but he did miss these small moments with Stede, the times when the noise from rest of the world didn't matter because the two of them were the only thing in each others orbit.
Ed knew what he was signing up for when he chose Stede (although he would certainly argue that there was very little real choice in the matter when it came down to it, less of a choice and more of a running head first into a brick wall sort of situation), knew that he was a package deal – the best clearance sale Ed had ever seen, really, if it gave him two extra of his favorite people for the price of the love of his life – and he certainly understood what he'd signed for when he and Stede decided to have Charlotte. He just might have just only skimmed the fine print, alright?
He lingered in Stede's warm embrace another moment, drinking in Stede's sleeping figure. He'd been sleeping better now that Charlotte was sleeping through the night again – they'd thought they'd finally been in the clear a few month ago, but just about as soon as she started sleeping alone a tooth decided to cut in, and thus ensured another several sleepless months as they did their best to comfort her through the discomfort. It worries Stede to absolutely no end when she, or any of them, really, were in such distress, especially knowing there was only so much he could do to make it better. They'd done their best to rotate shifts to help sit up with her, but even when Stede wasn't 'on duty,' so to speak, he still hadn't really been able to bring himself to rest.
But after several agonizing months of the tears and sore gums and frozen teethers, it'd seemed that they'd finally, finally turned a corner. Stede still woke regularly through the night to check on her, seemingly on instinct alone, but those checks had been becoming fewer and further in between lately, and the past couple of weeks had given them almost entirely uninterrupted nights of sleep.
He let him stay in Stede’s embrace for another few moments, before finally deciding that if he was going to stay awake any longer he needed coffee soon. Disentangling himself from his husband, who let out a small whine in his sleep at the loss of contact, Ed quietly shuffled out of the bedroom.
Stretching as he yawned, he slowly opened the door to Charlotte’s room, careful to not make any noise as he did. He wasn’t going to wake her, he really wasn’t, but he just needed to check on her, he reasoned with himself. Just to check, just to be sure. The soft orange glow of the octopus nightlight in the corner of her room illuminated his path across the plush carpet, through which he shuffled over to her crib. Peering over the top, his heart squeezed at the sight of his daughter.

The Best Ways to Save Money on Reliable Gear for Outdoor Enthusiasts
For outdoor enthusiasts, having reliable gear is essential to enjoy activities like hiking, hunting, or camping safely and comfortably. However, the cost of high-quality outdoor equipment can quickly add up, making it challenging to stick to a budget. Fortunately, there are effective strategies for finding top-notch gear without overspending. In this guide, we’ll explore how to save money while ensuring you’re well-equipped for your next adventure.
Why Reliable Gear is Crucial
Outdoor activities often push your equipment to its limits, exposing it to tough environments and unpredictable weather. Investing in reliable gear ensures:
Durability: High-quality materials stand up to rugged use.
Safety: Proper gear provides protection from harsh elements and unforeseen challenges.
Performance: Reliable equipment enhances your overall experience and effectiveness.
While quality is vital, affordability is also key. Balancing the two can seem tricky, but it’s entirely possible with smart shopping techniques.
Tips for Saving on Outdoor Gear
1. Shop Off-Season
Outdoor retailers often discount gear during the off-season. For example:
Buy winter equipment in spring or summer.
Look for discounts on camping gear during the colder months.
2. Explore Clearance Sales
Many stores clear out older inventory to make room for new arrivals. These clearance sections often feature significant markdowns on items that are still perfectly functional and reliable.
3. Use Discount Codes
Promo codes are an excellent way to save on outdoor gear. For example, a TideWe discount code can help you score deals on durable hunting and outdoor products. Always check a brand’s website or trusted coupon platforms before completing your purchase.
4. Join Membership Programs
Retailers like REI and Bass Pro Shops offer loyalty programs with exclusive discounts, early sale access, and member-only perks. While there may be a small annual fee, the savings can be well worth it.
5. Compare Prices Online
Before making a purchase, compare prices on multiple websites to ensure you’re getting the best deal. Use price comparison tools like CamelCamelCamel or Honey to track price history and find savings.
6. Buy Secondhand
Pre-owned outdoor gear can often be found in excellent condition for a fraction of the price. Check:
Local thrift stores.
Online marketplaces like eBay or Facebook Marketplace.
Specialty sites like GearTrade.
Considerations for Buying Budget Gear
When shopping for affordable outdoor equipment, it’s important to evaluate:
Material Quality: Ensure the product is made of durable, weather-resistant materials.
Warranty or Return Policy: Look for gear with guarantees to safeguard your purchase.
Reviews: Check user reviews to confirm reliability and performance.
Saving money shouldn’t come at the cost of compromising safety or usability, especially for gear like hiking boots, tents, or hunting equipment.
Gear Recommendations for Outdoor Enthusiasts
Here are some reliable items worth considering:
Backpacks: Look for lightweight, water-resistant designs with ergonomic straps.
Footwear: Invest in breathable, waterproof boots for all terrains.
Clothing: Prioritize layering options to adjust to changing temperatures.
Accessories: Don’t forget essentials like portable water filters, compasses, and first aid kits.
Making the Most of Your Gear
Saving money on gear is just the beginning. Proper maintenance extends the lifespan of your equipment, saving you more in the long run.
Clean Regularly: Remove dirt and debris after each use.
Store Properly: Keep items in a cool, dry place to prevent damage.
Repair, Don’t Replace: Use patch kits or take advantage of manufacturer repair programs.
Final Thoughts
Outdoor adventures are more enjoyable with the right gear, and saving money on it doesn’t mean sacrificing quality. By shopping off-season, using a TideWe discount code, and exploring secondhand options, you can gear up affordably and confidently. With smart planning, you’ll be ready to tackle your next outdoor experience without breaking the bank.

Rug Clearance Perth: How to Choose the Perfect Rug at a Clearance Sale in Perth
Are you in the market for a new rug to spruce up your living space, but don't want to break the Pocket? Look no further than a rug clearance Perth sale! With a wide selection of rugs available at discounted prices, it can be overwhelming to choose the perfect one for your home. However, with a few key tips and tricks, you can navigate the clearance sale with ease and find the rug of your dreams.
How to Make the Most of a Rug Clearance Perth Sale
When shopping at a rug clearance sale in Perth, it's important to come prepared. Here are some steps you can take to ensure you find the perfect rug for your home:
Measure the Space: Before heading to the clearance sale, measure the space where you plan to place the rug. This will help you determine the size of the rug you need and prevent you from purchasing one that is too small or too large for the space.
Set a Budget: It's easy to get carried away when shopping at a clearance sale, so it's important to set a budget before you start browsing. Knowing how much you are willing to spend will help you narrow down your options and choose a rug that fits within your price range.
Consider the Style: Think about the overall style of your home and the look you are trying to achieve. Whether you prefer a modern, traditional, or eclectic style, there are rugs available in a variety of designs to suit your taste.
Check the Quality: While the price may be discounted at a clearance sale, it's still important to check the quality of the rug. Look for signs of wear and tear, such as fraying edges or fading colors, and choose a rug that is made from durable materials that will withstand the test of time.
Choosing the Perfect Rug
Now that you have some tips for navigating a rug clearance sale, let's discuss how to choose the perfect rug for your home:
Material:
When choosing a rug, consider the material it is made from. Wool rugs are soft and durable, while synthetic rugs are often more affordable and easy to clean. Natural fibers like jute and sisal add a touch of texture to your space, while silk rugs are luxurious and elegant.
Size:
The size of the rug is crucial to the overall look of the room. A small rug can make the space feel cramped, while a large rug can overwhelm the room. Consider the dimensions of your space and choose a rug that fills the area without covering it completely.
Color and Pattern:
The color and pattern of the rug can dramatically change the look and feel of a room. Consider the existing color scheme and decor in your space when choosing a rug. A bold, colorful rug can add a pop of personality to a neutral room, while a more subtle pattern can complement existing elements.
Maintenance:
Think about how much maintenance you are willing to put into your rug. Some materials require more upkeep than others, so choose a rug that fits your lifestyle and cleaning habits. Additionally, consider using a rug pad to protect your floors and keep the rug in place.
In conclusion, shopping for a rug at Shoparug.com.au clearance sale in Perth can be a fun and rewarding experience. By following these tips and keeping an open mind, you can find the perfect rug for your home that fits your style and budget. Happy shopping!

Stylish and Affordable Tiles for the Living Room Floor: Your Guide to Transforming Your Space
The living room is often the heart of a home, serving as a space for relaxation, entertainment, and family gatherings. Choosing the right tiles for the living room floor can significantly enhance the overall aesthetic and functionality of the space. If you’re looking for stylish yet budget-friendly options, you’ll be pleased to discover a range of cheap tiles in the UK that can elevate your living room's design.
Why Choose Tiles for the Living Room Floor?
Durability: Living rooms experience a lot of foot traffic, making it essential to choose a flooring option that can withstand wear and tear. Tiles are a durable choice that can maintain their appearance for years, even in busy households.
Variety of Styles: With an extensive selection of designs, textures, and colors available, tiles for the living room floor can complement any decor style—from modern to traditional. You can create a warm, inviting atmosphere or a sleek, contemporary look based on your preferences.
Easy Maintenance: One of the major advantages of tiles is their ease of maintenance. They are resistant to stains and spills, making them ideal for families with children or pets. A quick sweep and mop are usually all that’s needed to keep them looking pristine.
Complement Your Living Room Wall Tiles: When selecting floor tiles, consider how they will coordinate with any living room wall tiles. A cohesive design can create a more polished and harmonious space. Choose colors and textures that work well together to enhance your living room’s overall appeal.
Tips for Choosing Tiles for the Living Room Floor
Consider the Size of Your Space: Larger tiles can make a small living room feel more expansive, while smaller tiles may work better in larger spaces or complex layouts. Think about how the size of the tiles will affect the room's overall look.
Think About Color and Texture: Light colors can brighten up a dark space, while darker shades can create a cozy atmosphere. Textured tiles can add depth and interest to your flooring, giving it a unique character.
Focus on Comfort: If you’re concerned about cold tiles, consider adding area rugs to warm up the space. Additionally, some tiles come with underfloor heating compatibility, adding an extra layer of comfort during colder months.
Explore Affordable Options: There are plenty of cheap tiles in the UK that provide great value without sacrificing style. Keep an eye out for sales, clearance items, or discounted collections at local home improvement stores.
Popular Tile Options for Your Living Room
Ceramic Tiles: These versatile tiles come in various colors and patterns, making them a popular choice for living rooms. They are affordable and durable, perfect for any decor style.
Porcelain Tiles: Denser and more durable than ceramic tiles, porcelain tiles are ideal for high-traffic areas. They can mimic the look of wood or stone, offering a stylish finish without the upkeep of natural materials.
Vinyl Tiles: If you're on a budget, vinyl tiles are an excellent option. They are easy to install, water-resistant, and available in numerous designs that can mimic more expensive materials.
Natural Stone Tiles: For a touch of luxury, consider natural stone options like slate, granite, or marble. While they can be pricier, their unique beauty and durability can add significant value to your home.
Conclusion
Choosing the right tiles for the living room floor can dramatically enhance the look and feel of your space. With a wide range of durable, stylish, and affordable options available, it’s easier than ever to create a living room that reflects your personal style.
