hi!! hello!! I've read throw the thab comic this morning and it got me audible gasping and saying "my god it's so good why is it so good it's" out loud, absolute 10/10 reading experience thank you thank you you made my day honestly
my question is this – is there anything you'd like to infodump about in thab au (characters, lamb's past, wordbuilding details, that fact that narinder's third eye seems to be much more emotional and honest than narinder himself)? I've skimmed through tags and didn't find that mush info (outside the comic itself) and im very intrigued, so maybe you'd like to share anything! it would be cool!! if not that's cool too, i hope you have a good day<3
hrvnuhrg Thank you so much! I can't wait for the comic to continue and see yours and everybody else's reaction =D And even then, it's a bonus, knowing you like the project is already very cool ngl For the info-dump! A lot of what you put in parenthesis will be brought up in the comic, and I'm the kind of mf that likes to keep surprises >=3
BUT
I can give you THaB's cast! Not everyone is here, because some characters are not very important and/or not very developed. As a bonus tho, you'll get everyone's name in the Lamb's conlang I made =D
COtL characters:
Tumblr media
Lamb and Nari! The two most important characters of the comic! Since the bullshit revolve around their relationship. No anecdote for them, because everything can be spoiler-
Tumblr media
It comes as a surprise to no one I think, but the bishops will be there =D Fun fact, in this image, I put them from younger to older, based on one of the co-writter (@wowowhy) head-canon that the more eyes the bishops have, the older the are! Making Narinder the middle child-
Tumblr media
Mystic Seller, Claunek and Ratau wont be seen very often! They'll have more of a technical roles in the story. Giving key information, giving state of things. But I try to keep wiggle room in the writing, so things might change!
THaB characters:
Tumblr media
Lamb's disciples! Put from older to youngest. Salky is Lamb's right hand. She was the Hathor demon in Nari's fight! Loki loves to look for frogs from time to time. Deimos sometime sneak some alcohol from his bar-tending job. Pixie likes to drink a cup of tea when she get the time. Nimwé goes to the cemetery pretty often to change the flowers of the graves.
Tumblr media
Have some of the followers we'll see! Litsy loves everyone (to everyone's dismay). We saw him as an Orcus demon during Narinder's fight! Purna likes how lively her kitchen get when it's time to prepare dinner. We saw her as a Vesta demon earlier! Nysus is the self appointed resource manager of the flock. But some people would just call them a thief. Meralon, the flock undertaker, he is also Gérard drinking buddy. Gérard is the unluckiest person you could ever found in the Land of the Old Faith, which makes him a very good janitor.
I might reblog this post to put more characters in the future, stay tuned!

Two phrases of advice for you Shamura. "One often doesn't recognize the Devil once his hand is on your shoulder." And "A house divided against itself cannot stand." Take from it what you will. -Claunek

Kudaai Thoughts™ with a side portion of Claunek
Okay, okay, I swear I'm working on other fics right now, I have a NariLamb one coming shortly, I just need to finish typing it up in docs.
But Kudaai brainrot is strong and without access to discord to blab and blab about him I needed someway to purge myself of these thoughts.
So I wrote these out in a fervor on one of my breaks at work. Its messy, but it is what it is.
First off, we don't know for sure what they are, but I have two possibilities that I like, may end up even combining them together. I like to think that these two are some type of dragon morph, preferably crocodile or alligator, with their "cloaks" being scales or feathers. Another idea is that the "cloaks" are leaves, and they're both some type of nature creatures. The idea of them being a dragon morph with leaf scales that change with the season is such a cool idea to me. Claunek gains pink highlights in the spring while Kudaai gains more orange and red. In winter they both turn white, with light layers of frost settling over them. Inside me there are two wolves-
I do also believe these two are gods within their own right. Haro explains that the lands of the Old Faith once had many gods, hundreds even, and that many of them are gone now. Some were killed, others left, others still slept. It wouldn't surprise me if under their hoods, these guys have their own little crowns. The Bishops are aware of their existence but they have an agreement, Claunek and Kudaai are allowed to live on their land so long as they don't try to amass any followers or grab power from them. This works fine for the two of them as they care not for such things as worshippers, they just want to focus on their craft.
Kudaai, I see being a God of Flame, the first fire being the one lighting his forge and is unable to burn out, seeing as he mentions it being an eternal flame in his dialogue. As well as this he is known as a god of blacksmithing - think Hephaestus from Greek Myth. Not only do mortal blacksmiths follow his practices for forging, but followers of all kinds pray to him for blessings on things. This can include anything from horseshoes so a follower's mount stays sturdy and strong for a long journey to blessings on tools and building materials for homes so that they can weather any storm and have protection from intruders.
Claunek I see as a God of Prophecy, moreso than Shamura. Shamura can see visions of the future, but they can only see so many before they feel drained, and they arent able to choose what they see. Claunek on the otherhand, can choose. Where Shamura is more spontanious, Claunek is more like Garnet from Steven Universe. He can see the different branching pathways an individuals furture can take, from most likely to happen to least likely to happen. He can then use this knowledge to influence them towards a more desired outcome, but anything is still possible as the future is never set in stone. His tarot cards are tied to this ability, and however he wants to answer your questions or influence you, it effects which cards he pulls during readings. This is to say that no matter how many times you shuffle his deck, take or remove cards, etc, if he has a specific path he wants to push you towards, the appropriate card will manifest within the deck for him to pull. As for if he has a second domain to rule over the way the other gods in the game do, I have been entertaining the idea that he has some control over hope. It makes sense to me, considering he can see other's futures, being able to sense what they hope and wish for would be incredibly helpful.
I do see them both as brothers, the same way all the Bishops are related to one another. Whether they were born from another god's death, or simply manifested, they came into the world knowing who the other was and calling them brother. I do think Kudaai came first and acts as an older brother. He's protective over Claunek, and has sacrificed a lot to keep his younger sibling safe from the dangers of their world. He is covered in scars from past battles, and a couple of the weapons stuck in his back are results of said battles. They cause him chronic pain and Claunek feels guilty whenever he thinks to much about how they got there. He often makes tea blends and medicines from herbs in the forests to help ease his brother's issues. I do enjoy the dynamic of them having a sibling rivalry, however I actually see Claunek as the more competitive one.
Specifically, he's the more competitive one in a passive aggressive/subtle way. Kudaai stops by with a wonderful new tea blend he wanted to gift his brother? Oh well, Claunek also got him some new rare ingots and high quality leather for his next weapon project, clearly he is better at gift giving. And he has better snacks to choose from, and is superior at games of wit. Kudaai just kinda sits to the side like; "Cool. Anyway…"
I honestly see his personality being more in line with like, a knight? He's very reserved and calm, patience coming just as easily to him as his younger brother due to the nature of his craft. He handles things the way he handles forging, careful strikes and patience, waiting for the right moment to make his move. This doesn't carry over to social situations, however. As a young God growing in such a dangerous land, with a delicate charge of his baby brother relying on him, Kudaai didn't have much time for socializing. If he needed to talk to others, for whatever reason, his words were always few and clipped. He never shared more than he needed to, the sword lodged in his right shoulder was a very potent lesson in keeping his thoughts and secrets close.
This is one of the reasons Claunek tries to stay loose and carefree, as well as try to engage his sibling in a healthy sibling rivalry. He hates to think that Kudaai never got to express himself or have friends or live life in any way because he was too busy taking care of his baby brother and protecting him from danger. Claunek likes to think that someday he'll be able to help his older sibling break out of his emotional imprisonment and be happy.
Thing is, Kudaai is happy. Or at least, he thinks he is. He's a bit of a minimalist, and doesn't have much desire for material things or the company of others. His younger brother is safe and happy, he gets to work on his forge as often as he wants…what more could he need?
I do have many, many, many more thoughts about these two jumping around, but I can't get them all out as of right now. Probably will write more about them soon.

My one, most important lesson for DMs: STEAL.
Steal everything. Steal with both of your grubby little hands, your mouth, your feet, and, if you can manage it, whatever lovecraftian horror lies between your legs. Take everything you can.
People often think creativity is conjuring things ex nihilo from your head.
It's not.
You know where the rust monster came from?
Tumblr media
GARY GYGAX FOUND A WEIRD RUBBER MONSTER AND STATTED IT.
The same goes for the owlbear, carrion crawler, umber hulk and purple worm, and the bullette was created the same way by Gygax's friend Tim Kask, who was also a play-tester and the first editor of Dragon magazine.
One of my favorite adventures I've run was literally the plot of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic season two premiere A Canterlot Wedding. I just replaced the ponies with the various humanoids of D&D, and Queen Chrysalis with a warlock. The plot was exactly the same, just with the minimal amount of massaging to let outside characters blunder in. And it's my favorite because that's all it was, but none of my players watched MLP so no one caught it (which was actually a little disappointing, for me the fun of references and allusion is other people getting them).
My other favorite D&D thing I've done is a dungeon I've variously referred to as Deathtrap Dungeon, Meatgrinder, and The Trial. It is, broadly, my own creation, but it was incited by my visceral hatred for how Gygax wrote the Tomb of Horrors. I wanted a super hard dungeon, but one that gave the players a chance, so I wrote my own. And within it is a bunch of stuff I took from other places.
I planned on the PCs being stuck in it until they finished, with no ability to leave and sell things or rest in town, so I needed a way for them to still use money. So I took Vulgrim from Darksiders, who serves literally this exact function. I didn't use "Literally Vulgrim," I created my own faux-Goetic demon Claunek, but if I ran someone who was a big Darksiders fan through the dungeon, they would likely recognize Claunek as Vulgrim.
On level three, some doors are infected with a specialized fantasy cordyceps fungus.
One of the rooms on level one requires sigil construction to solve. There's a grid of various dangerous effects, and a slot on one wall with a bunch of lettered tiles nearby. You have to figure out the right word or statement to spell out in the slot with the tiles to create a bridge across the grid. Now, this wasn't a great thing to throw at my players, because none of them know anything about sigil construction or magic squares. So they made a lot of rolls and I had to expo dump.
A similar concept appears again later on, but in this latter case, it's not about making a sigil but constructing a sator square from lettered tiles, which then is the clue as to how they proceed.
One of my favorite characters I've made was the result of "I like playing artificers" and combining the Voltaire songs Riding a Black Unicorn, The Mechanical Girl, and the basic plot of Iron Man. I never got to play them, but I still like the character I made.
Another character I made, and did get to play, began as "What if Saitama from One Punch Man plus Professor Farnsworth from Futurama, but as a wizard?"
I'm literally working on an adventure right now that was inspired by listening to the song Die Anywhere Else from Night in the Woods, and I'm kind of working towards it being more or less the non-character-dependent plot of Night in the Woods.
My point is, don't feel like you have to come up with things out of nothing. Steal plots, steal characters, steal monsters, and twist things together, and put your own tweaks on things. It's not wrong. You're just making adventures to run for your friends, or characters to play in your friend's game. This kind of blatant creative theft is only wrong if you're claiming you created the thing, are using it wholecloth with no changes, and trying to profit (either literally financially or in some other way). For just a game at your kitchen table? Take whatever you want, put your own spin and coats of paint on things, and just have fun.

Keeping Silent: Shutting Your Mouth For Every Occasion
I started working with Daemons back in 1984. I was a stupid, smart-assed, know it all kid back then.  I read every book I could find on the subject, coined myself an occult expert among all my friends, and considered myself special because surely – no one knew as much about the occult as me. Four years later, in 1988 – my ego got knocked down a few pegs when I discovered that there were other, more experienced people involved in the occult. And things I thought I knew were not things I had discovered on my own, and what I actually knew was very little compared to some of these people who’d been doing this longer than me. But I was still an egotistical, bratty little bitch (as teenagers are) and managed to secure some training by these more experienced people. By 1994 – I’d worked my way into a real live Daemonolatry group and was even given tasks that usually only clergy (in other traditions anyway) were allowed to do.  Like set up the altars, construct the ritual space, or help with abyssal communion and rite of imbibement.  But even by that time, having practiced for 10 years, I was still pretty wet behind the ears. By 2004 – 20 years after beginning my initial journey, I’d started to get my shit together and finally started viewing my practice in a more mature, adult way, even though I still felt the need to share my opinion with anyone who would listen. In some instances I probably sounded like some crazy dogmatic magician who was intolerant of certain beliefs or practices. Perhaps I was. By 2014 (30 years after I had begun practicing working with Daemons), I’d gotten to a point where I finally decided to fully step back and STFU. And to listen.
I’ve watched people come and go in the world of online Daemonolatry since 1997.  I know everyone who has been around for more than 10 years. It’s not a big community – especially in the world of those who work with Daemons.  Only a small fraction of the Daemonolaters online today will be practicing 10 years from now. For most people it’s a passing fad.
I’m pretty laid back. I have a live and let live mentality. I tend toward those who follow a tradition similar to my own.  Nothing wrong with that.  That’s my personal preference. I have A LOT of opinions about Daemonolatry, but for the most part I keep them to myself these days. I wasn’t always like this, but after fifteen years sharing my opinions online and realizing I was just pissing in the wind –  I learned that it’s a much quieter, more spiritual existence keeping one’s opinions to oneself.
I could tell people who the old school practitioners are (as they walk among us) in public online forums, but why?  It makes it more entertaining when one of the people new to the scene takes on those who have been around for awhile. Trust me – in private, at coven meetings, or at in person gatherings – we laugh about this stuff.
I could tell you who’s new on the scene and pretending to be an old school practitioner (because I’m not just on the in in the online community – but I know who’s who in the Daemonolatry world offline, too), but again – not my business to publicly point that out. Besides, if you sit and listen — you’ll be able to pick the noobs (and by noobs, that’s anyone who’s been practicing under 10 years) out rather quickly. Let’s just say that MOST of the people in the public online groups these days haven’t been practicing more than five years, even if they tell you otherwise. Their participation, questions, comments etc… speak volumes. Likewise – I can tell an armchair magician from someone who is actively practicing. There are longtime armchair magicians, too. People who are far more interested in theory, psychology, and philosophy than anything else.
I hear and see a lot of wrong information out there, but with UPG, I let it go because what’s right to me may not be right to someone else and no one is going to change anyone’s mind. In my humble opinion it’s best to let people do what they want because they don’t want rules or ideas, or traditions they don’t like,  and I don’t have time for confrontation with strangers that, when it’s said and done, is pointless. Do what you want as long as it makes you happy. But never forget that there’s a difference between traditional Daemonolatry and what passes off online as Daemonolatry. I know what those differences are, but I don’t dare point them out because that’s not what kids today want. They want to do what they want and say they’ve got the “in” on Daemons.  If that makes them happy, so be it.
I see trends in Daemons that everyone is working with come and go, but I don’t point it out. I usually just laugh, shake my head, and walk away. Last week it was Paimon, this week Claunek, I’m pretty sure Belial was all the rage there for awhile, and who knows which Daemon will be flavor of the moment next week. Poor Daemons — even they only get their five minutes of fame.
I watch young people discover something old about Daemonolatry that all the old school practitioners know because our traditional training taught us that stuff in the very beginning and I giggle to myself as they try to pass it off as something *they* alone have discovered, and that no one else knows. But I shut my mouth.
I watch people who are brand new to the practice opening websites and shops, and blogs, so they can teach other beginners. Watching the blind lead the blind can be rather amusing, too. Of course it’s not funny when some beginners start ass-raping other beginners  (or people who just don’t know any better) by selling them Daemons in rings, demon lovers, and other nonsensical shit.  Still, it’s not my place, so I say absolutely nothing.
I’ve also watched as other seasoned practitioners sat by and said nothing. We often give one another nods of acknowledgement from across the virtual room, or pass a virtual sigh or eyeroll between us when we see some of the insane, crazy shit we see.  But we generally bow out of the conversation.  Some beginners have made it very clear they don’t give a shit what the elder Daemonolaters think and that they don’t value our opinions, ideas, or thoughts and so they don’t want us to weigh in on conversations. So we don’t.
This is why we end up so often not participating in online groups – because we’re not wanted there as some of these younger people posture and jockey for position within the online occult groups they dominate with their excessive talk and, at most, beginner knowledge.
Keeping silent means you see a lot, you hear a lot, and you know a lot more about what’s going on than people think you know.  Today has been one of those days where I saw enough in the last 24 hours that I’m ready to keep silent for another year.

hii again! im the anon from here and here!! and the lengthy answer requires an as lengthy follow up so here i am (also if such large asks are inconviniencing in any way pls let me know i dont want to make you uncomfortable)
first of all, it was very interesting to read about this language, im not that into fictional languages stuff but it looks very fun and original to me, thank you for sharing, it's very cool!
second of all, i took some time to translate the glyphs in the names that you've already given and that's what i've got. feel free to correct me!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
most of them are pretty self-explanatory (some are a bit less obvious, like the "walk" in loki's name prob means that he's a missionary, and "death" in meralon's that he's an undertaker), but i have a couple of questions.
how would you translate qlaunek's glyphs? im coming up with only something like "the one who reads out the enligthment" which is clanky and awkward. is long+eye in litsy's name mean that he has very good eyesight or on the contrary, that he's farsighted (or something else entirely)? also why is the colour glyph in his name an inverted yellow? is it a mistake or another colour? do colours describe a general family of colour like hues and such (like i don't think that gerard is the same bright green as leshy but maybe im wrong)?
i see some personality glyphs in some names (fear in nimve f.e., which im guessing means that they're cowardly). does that mean that the names can change with time? like if nimve becomes less scared or gerard somehow becomes lucky? did salky's name change when he started wearing camelias?
and since you said it was an inside circle thing between lamb and deciples, doesn't pixie kinda get's pissed off that her name literally contains "angry cat" in it? :D
aaand as the very least some things i think are Neat in this language: i love how combined symbols look and function (like in claunek's name, or how "use" and "make" become "exchange"), the fact that verbs starve, attack, infect etc. are all named after the crowns is awesome and genuinely a nice smart touch, just the visuals of the language are pleasant and fun to look at
again thank you for sharing!! and i look forward to new words in future comics, now that im somewhat familiar with the language
=OOOO absolutely fabulous reveal! B) With another banger ask! (Long ask do not bother me at all! It's kind of very fucking cool to receive a lengthy response about something I thought would not get much reaction/attention- I was happy to receive this, and see I got you and a few people on board with the language!)
Lets now respond to all this in order: -For Claunek, I forgot to put into the lexicon the glyph I gave him- I also did a pretty shit job at drawing it, ngl- But you got a good guess from my shit job! This glyph is the one of "Fate", with a big F. Claunek is the one who can read Fate! I got the symbol from the motif at the back of his tarot cards, and thought it was a perfect fit =D (I just didn't had the patience to make it right on what is supposed to be a sketch-) (I also used this symbol in the comic, and it might come back to haunt the narrative >=D) -Litsy's weird glyphs are mistakes- I used the previous ask to put things down, and so, some rules have been revisited, some glyphs changed. The particle at Litsy's eyes is upside down, as this particle did not had it's mirror version originally. The correct version of his name would be "the yellow cat with big eyes" For the upside-down yellow, I just forgot in which way the triangle of Heket's crown pointed at, since I used the crowns again as inspirations X') (would also say that the placement of the number in Nari's name is wrong- The subject always come first, and since the number is attached to a glyph, the glyph comes first, the number after.) -Colors describe the overall hue yup! An orange that goes more into red hues will be designated as red, and it'll be designated as yellow if yellow is more predominant. Cyan will be blue, pink is red, brown is all over the place, ect. (and yeah, no, Gérard is not the same green as Leshy- I'll show it some day, but the bunny got more of a lighter sickly green) -I didn't really thought of that before, but the names being able to change overtime is a very logical concept for this language! So yeah, you now made name-changing a very normal and regular process in the cult's life! Congrats =D (And yeah, Pixie definitely got pissed at her Cartouche, and made it official in the eyes of everyone X') She fell into the self-fulfilling-prophecy trope and got mad about it X'D) Really quick round, for the few translation """mistakes""" (not really mistakes, since some info are missing or just impossible to know): -Purna is a cook, so the final glyph is more on the food side. -Meralon is a raccoon, wich is not easy to catch when you don't have the mask-looking motif on the face. -Nysus is a Wolpertinger, but good luck to guess that from a simple glyph X')
To conclude, I am glad you were able to read through the whole rant, and try the language out! Your translations are accurate, and it makes me so, so happy you took the time to write them down and ask questions about the language ='3 Overall, I'm very happy you, and other people, saw my stuff, and reacted to it. Seeing y'all enjoying everything gives me wings <3 Thank you very much, and I'll try to put this language everywhere I can from now on ;3 (it was already planned, but now, I'll put more >=3)
