★★★★/☆.

"This week was a big win for animals across Mexico.
On December 2, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum signed a set of constitutional reforms that will pave the way for a comprehensive federal animal welfare law. The changes represent the first-ever mention of nonhuman animals in the Mexican Constitution, marking a milestone achievement for Mexico’s animal rights movement, which has for years been drawing attention to pervasive animal cruelty and extreme confinement in the country’s growing meat industry.
“This is huge,” says Dulce Ramirez, executive director of Animal Equality Mexico and the vice president of Animal Equality’s Latin American operations. These constitutional changes come after two years of campaigning by animal advocacy organizations, including Igualdad Animal Mexico, Humane Society International/Mexico (HSI/Mexico), and Movimiento Consciencia.
These reforms are internationally unique. While national animal protection laws aren’t uncommon, most countries have no mention of animals in their Constitutions. Constitutions are “a reflection of socially where we are,” Angela Fernandez, a law professor at the University of Toronto, told Vox, making any constitutional reform symbolically a big deal.
Beyond Mexico, nine countries include references to animals in their Constitutions, but those mentions have generally been brief and open to interpretation. “Mexico is different,” Kristen Stilt, faculty director at Harvard Law School’s Animal Law and Policy Program, told Vox. “It’s longer, it’s more specific. It’s in several provisions. It’s not just a general statement.”
Plenty of countries have laws against animal mistreatment, including the US, where all 50 states have an anti-cruelty law, but that doesn’t mean they’ve been particularly effective at stopping violence against animals. Part of the problem is that these laws very often exempt farmed animals such as cows, pigs, and chickens, thereby excluding from protection the overwhelming majority of animals that suffer at human hands. That’s where Mexico’s reforms stand out: They’re intended to protect all animals, including farmed animals and other exploited species.
The reforms in Mexico, the world’s largest Spanish-speaking country, represent a major advancement in the status of animals globally. It could set a precedent for other countries in Latin America, where a vibrant animal rights movement has emerged in recent years, said Macarena Montes Franceschini, a fellow at Harvard Law School’s Animal Law and Policy Program.
Still, as one of the world’s top producers of beef, chicken, pork, dairy, and eggs, Mexico has an intensive animal agriculture industry much like the US, says Antón Aguilar, HSI/Mexico’s executive director. Business interests will undoubtedly want to influence the writing of animal welfare laws that could impact their bottom lines, as they have in the US and elsewhere. The question now is what changes the constitutional reforms will really bring to animal law in Mexico, and how effective they will be.
What will these reforms do?
The reforms comprise changes to three separate articles of Mexico’s Constitution. The most foundational change amends the Constitution’s Article 73, which dictates what Congress has the authority to legislate on. The article now gives the federal government the power to issue laws on animal welfare and protection.
Previously, animal welfare was largely left up to local and state authorities, and the result has been uneven laws and enforcement across the country. While all states in Mexico have animal protection legislation, just three include farmed animals: Hidalgo, Colima, and as of last month, Oaxaca, following pressure from animal advocates. And though Mexico does have a federal law on animal health that focuses on farmed animals and includes some broad mentions of animal welfare, it was created to protect human health rather than animals. The same goes for Mexico’s federal wildlife law, which was written with a focus on sustainability and conservation, rather than on protecting individual animals from cruelty.
Perhaps the most significant part of the reforms is an amendment to Article 4 of Mexico’s Constitution prohibiting the mistreatment of animals and directing the Mexican state to guarantee the protection, adequate treatment, and conservation and care of animals. The language is broad, Ramirez says, but she sees it as a substantial improvement over existing animal welfare laws. She and other advocates worked to ensure that no animals were excluded, particularly given that farmed animals have historically been left out of animal protection.
“It’s really, really important in Mexico to start with this first step — but a big one — because now it’s all animals” that are covered, Ramirez said.
The changes to Articles 4 and 73 tee up the creation of federal legislation on animal welfare. Under these reforms, Mexico’s Congress has been directed to write a first-of-its-kind General Law of Animal Welfare, Care, and Protection, a comprehensive bill that would address and develop regulations preventing the mistreatment of all types of animals, including farmed animals, wildlife, animals in laboratories, and companion animals, Aguilar said.
This general animal welfare law will need to consider animals’“nature, characteristics and links with people,” according to the reform decree released last week. What does this actually mean? Ramirez gave the example of chickens: Part of the natural behavior of these animals is to be able to spread their wings and move around. But if chickens are stuck in cages, as is standard practice on egg factory farms, they can’t do either of those things. Now, the idea is to develop legal criteria that would consider the ability to express these natural behaviors as part of their welfare. (The language could also be interpreted to prioritize human needs, however — particularly the reference to animals’ “links with people.” Animal Equality said it would interpret this through an animal welfare lens, and with the word “link” invoking what humans owe animals.)
Finally, Article 3 of Mexico’s Constitution, which pertains to the education system, was also amended to require that animal welfare be included in school curricula for grade school and high school students. Aguilar said this change could help “attitudes shift and change in a very enduring, long-term way” for future generations. But the new constitutional language is unspecific, and the devil is in the details.
What’s next for animal welfare in Mexico
Advocates in Mexico have two focuses going forward, Ramirez and Aguilar said: shaping the general animal welfare bill into a strong piece of legislation, and working with the Ministry of Education to get meaningful implementation of animal welfare into the national curriculum."

FFVII Rebirth chapter one thoughts
Tumblr media
Here you can see Sephiroth checking out cloud's ass
I had way too much fun jumping off rocks and I really wanted to jump into the river
I said this before everyone fell off a bridge
I have been referring to the two infantrymen as Kowalski and Ramirez like in Machinabridged
And rip Kowalski fucking hell I didn't expect him to just die
At least Actually Cloud Ramirez lives
I love how you can tell that these are all actually Zack's memories solely by the fact that cloud isn't as as fucking dumb as Zack.
Tifa at one point says something regarding her concerns if they run out of mako and "Cloud's" response is "Cept, the planet is huge. Mako will never run out" Only someone as much of a dumbass as Zack would say that
I'm also now convinced that someone convinced Zack that the world is flat and infinite as if he's in Minecraft.
Sephiroth being glad Tifa came along because "Cloud" would have lead them off a cliff.
I read a post earlier that the thing Sephiroth and Hojo have in common is that they both have uncomfortable laughs and yeah I agree.
Can we talk about this quote from Sephiroth?
"I know someone who'd be livid to hear you call it "weird" or "magic" for the matter. I can just imagine what he'd say"
"it's an affront to science
And then when asked who he much to my surprise says hojo and says this
"Hojo from Research and Development. His predecessor was a great man, but him?"
"he is anything but"
So many Hojo allusions which I don't recall from the original
It's like Sephiroth was trying to hint at something before it was too late
I always know what to expect either in crisis core and now in rebirth but every time it shocks me even more when you leave the manor and see smoke in the sky.
The ending of this chapter with Tifa getting mad at Cloud for questioning whether or not she is really there or if she died five years ago. It just made me feel secondhand like a complete jackass.
I completely forgot that Tifa gets stabbed and I had to remind myself that she lives. I was also confused why she had no visible scar.... But she shows cloud her scar so I guess that clears things up.
Cloud's response to Tifa regarding Tifa asking where he was five years ago also feels dickish from cloud however, I have been in situations where I've rejected care shown to me because I wasn't ready to face and accept the pain of something in the past. I can't truly blame him but once again chapter 1 leaves you feeling like a douchebag.
Sephiroth's sudden descent into madness feels like something that just was a flick of the switch but with all those Hojo allusions it feels like that switch was the sword of Damocles waiting to fall. I guess what is truly shocking is how he goes from being pretty decent and then you see his full brutality and you're not sure what to think.
In chapter two of remake Sephiroth says"Run, Cloud... Run Away. You have to leave... You have to live." Becomes a million times more brutal and cruel when you learn that that's what Claudia said to Cloud before her death.
I'm feeling so many emotions right now like damn. I wasn't prepared for this
Sephiroth stepping on the mayor's cowboy hat after he kills him was low-key hilarious
Tumblr media
The village showed Sephiroth so much hospitality they were worried for him but it was too late.
I also loved seeing where cloud's "memories" ended and his memories began

Hunter 'fuck around and find out’ de Vil (Au);
Tumblr media
Hunter Claudias de Vil is the oldest of the de Vil cousins and the only one people know the least about.
There's Ivana 'Ivy' Mallory de Vil, the second oldest de Vil cousin: the pyromaniac. The former two faced beauty pageant queen who can change moods at the drop of a hat. An inventor like most in her family and the de Vil cousin most prone to violence, especially if it's for her family.
Then there's Diego Ethan Ramirez-de Vil, the second youngest/middle child de Vil cousin: the hyperactive, impulsive, loud multi-multifaceted musician who’s inventive with his musical and artistic endeavours mainly but who can be REALLY inventive when it comes to technical stuff like the rest of his family. Even if it’s to a lesser degree. Not to mention the inventive traps, plans, and weapons the seemingly laidback musician can come up with when he puts his mind to it and is left to his own devices. Everyone knows him—he’s a member of everyone’s crew—and almost everyone likes him.
And there’s Carlos Oscar de Vil. The ‘baby’ of the family: the nerdy, ‘wimpy’, and snarky wild child who nearly brought the barrier down with a remote—the boy who returned from the isle of the doomed mostly unscarred and runs around with Maleficent’s daughter, Jafar’s son, and the Evil Queen’s son causing chaos on the daily. The boy who knows more about Auradon’s technology than anyone on the isle. The de Vil you never want to piss off because if you piss him off not only will he find little ways to make you miserable but you’ll have every other de Vil and the rest of the core four breathing down your neck.
Everyone knows those three.
Shudders at the chaos they can cause.
Like Ivy setting fire to the school when she still went there after the last time someone said she looked like a carbon copy of Cruella.
Or Diego and the rest of the Bad Apples having band practice at 3am in Dragon Hall for a week straight after Dr. Facilier refused to make his teachers fix the actually unfair grades they gave him because ‘he had no proof’.
Or the hair raising pranks that filled Dragon Hall after someone had stolen Carlos’ cat: more than one of which ended in injuries until his cat was returned ruffled and a bit hungry but uninjured three days later.
Most of the isle doesn’t know about Hunter.
After all, he usually keeps to himself and his cousins after having lost his friends.
They know he exists.
He’s Hunter de Vil: animal lover, tech genius, and former social media star. Great nephew of Cruella de Vil and the one who is the best at handling Cruella’s shit. But the ones who know a little more about him and his cousins than that know the most important thing about Hunter de Vil.
Which is that if you want all three of the younger de Vil cousins to behave you get Hunter ‘fuck around and find out’ de Vil immediately and he’ll sort them out if he’s in a good enough mood to help you (or in a bad enough mood with them to help you anyway). Because the thing people tend to forget about the de Vils is that Hunter is the one that raised them—not Mallory or the other long dead de Vils. Not P.H de Vil who would have long since experimented on Carlo’s beloved cat if Hunter hadn’t put his foot down.  Not Cruella, who likes the idea of being an aunt/mother on her good days more than actually being one. Not Cecil who’s been a mess ever since his beloved Audrey died.
Hunter.
Did.
It.
All.
(After Cecil stopped parenting Diego after his mother’s death when he was just five).
It's Hunter who changed Carlos's diapers, who stopped Ivy from emulating the worst of their family's traits long before the isle existed when the two of them from being tossed around like a hot potato after they both lost each of their parents. It's Hunter who nursed Carlos's intellect on an island that's school system was a joke and Hunter who made sure all his cousins had what they needed and more.
Hunter wouldn’t have survived a day raising the three of his hellion younger cousins if he wasn’t good at getting them to call it quits.
It’s Hunter who can freeze all three of them with one look despite the fact none of them seemed to be terrified of him.
If anyone can keep Ivy, Diego, and Carlos all in line at the same time it’s Hunter de Vil.
(And it isn’t just because he has years worth of blackmail material in the form of baby photos that he’s more than willing to use).

My PJO fandom story
I first heard about Percy Jackson and the Olympians when I was like eight. I’d started reading The Kane Chronicles, and saw that in other books written by Rick Riordan. I was more interested in Egyptian mythology over Greek mythology at that time, and we didn’t have the books at my school library. When I was twelve, I saw several of my friends reading the books and still didn’t understand what all the hype was about. I thought it was overrated, so I looked it up to see if I was right. I saw the first book was The Lightning Thief, and a friend of mine had the entire series at her house. Naturally, I asked to borrow it, and naturally, I became hooked the moment I read the first sentence. I finished all the books in the span of two months and began The Heroes of Olympus series afterward. I cannot believe I ever thought I would hate those books.
So far, these are the Rick Riordan books I’ve read, in order of when I read them: The Red Pyramid, The Throne of Fire, The Serpent’s Shadow, The Son of Sobek, The Staff of Serapis, The Crown of Ptolemy, Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods, The Lightning Thief, Sea of Monsters, The Titan’s Curse, The Battle of the Labyrinth, The Last Olympian, The Lost Hero, The Sun and the Star.
The books that I still have to read: The Singer of Apollo, The Son of Neptune, The Mark of Athena, The House of Hades, The Blood of Olympus, The Chalice of the Gods, Wrath of the Triple Goddess (Coming September 2024!), The Hidden Oracle, The Dark Prophecy, The Burning Maze, The Tyrant’s Tomb, The Tower of Nero, The Sword of Summer, The Hammer of Thor, The Ship of the Dead, Percy Jackson’s Greek Heroes, The Demigod Files, The Demigod Diaries, Camp Half-Blood Confidential, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: the Ultimate Guide, Camp Jupiter Classifed - a Probatio’s Journal, Hotel Valhalla - Guide to the Norse Worlds, Brooklyn House Magician’s Manual, Daughter of the Deep
POVs these books are in:

Personnel Profile: Emmanuel Ramirez
Location of birth: San Antonio, Texas, United States of America
Date of Birth: January 13th, 1977
Location of death: Fallujah, Al Anbar Governorate, Iraq
Date of Death: November 10th, 2004
Rank: Legionnaire
Unit: Legio Mortalis 778, Century 13, Contubernium 13-5
Unit Specialization: Designated Marksman
Personnel History: Legionnaire Ramirez was born in a suburb of San Antonio, Texas, an only child. Ramirez was raised in a stable and loving environment, his father a lawyer and his mother a schoolteacher, brought up with many friends in a close-knit community. He engaged in baseline forms of youthful rebellion, underage drinking, skipping school, and the like.
Ramirez’s immediate family was not particularly religious, but had him baptized as a young child at the behest of his grandparents. Ramirez took a greater personal interest in his faith, and underwent Confirmation at the age of 14, choosing Saint Jeanne D’Arc as his Confirmation Saint.
Legionnaire Ramirez married in 1997, at the age of 20, to Claudia Salazar. Together they had two daughters, Maria and Ximena Ramirez. All still live, Claudia has yet to remarry. Claudia is currently 47 years of age, Maria is currently 25, and Ximena is 23. Maria married a man by the name of Jackson Sawyer in 2023, and together they have one son, Emmanuel, 1 year of age, christened after Legionnaire Ramirez.
Following the United States of Americas beginning of the conflict known as the Global War on Terror in October of 2001, Ramirez enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, being sorted into 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines (3/1).
In his mortal service, he took part in the 2003 Invasion of Iraq, as 3/1 was heavily involved in both the fighting in Kuwait and the push into Iraq proper, including the Battle of Nasiriyah. Legionnaire Ramirez took part in the Second Battle of Fallujah in late 2004, where he met with his mortal death. Emmanuel Ramirez was killed on November 10th, 2004, attempting to recover a fellow Marine who had been wounded by sniper fire, killed by the sniper himself in his attempt.
Upon his arrival in Heaven, Ramirez volunteered for service in the 778th after six months, declaring that whilst he found the company of his loved ones pleasant, the knowledge of what the Legions fought precluded him from putting down his arms while his wife and daughters still remained on Earth. His motivations were examined, his decision counseled, and he was accepted into the ranks of the 778th with full honors.
Psychological Profile: Ramirez has voiced on several occasions his concerns for his earth-bound family, worry of their wellbeing, and a desire to check on them. This is extremely common in mortal souls with still-living immediate family, particularly children.
Suggest forwarding request to the Guardian Conclaves.
Ramirez exhibited symptoms of extreme psychological distress upon realization that several of the Marines who had died in combat with him are not present in Heaven. He has put forth numerous requests to be transferred to the Heaven Embassy in the Pride Ring of Hell, presumably with the goal of attempting to make contact with his Damned comrades. These requests have only increased in frequency with the widespread dissemination of information on Princess Morningstars successful attempt at redeeming Damned souls.
Suggest granting requests, only after counseling Legionnaire Ramirez on the probability of these individuals having been destroyed during one of the Exterminations.
End of Report.
Ave Christus Rex.
