A famous comedy playwright is struggling with financial difficulties and is preparing to sell his country villa to an English couple. What no one knows, however, is that he's actually a victim of blackmail.

The story is a bit silly, there's lots of slapstick but it plays at an incredible pace, and it's often very funny. It's easy to see that it's based on a play.

All the actors are game, but at its centre is a classic hi-energy performance by Louis de Funès. I haven't seen him in a long time, so I welcomed the opportunity to do so.

if you're french or have otherwise watched Hibernatus (1969 movie, give or take a year or two, with Louis de Funès, Claude Gensac, Bernard Alane, etc) do you see my vision.

Patrick Crawley (husband of Lady Violet, not fiancé of Lady Mary) didn't actually die, he got frozen or something and reappears not knowing things changed, in 1928 or 1930 (between movie 2 and 3).

Thinks Mary or Edith is his mother. Falls in love with a random girl who Mary wanted to arrange-marry to George. Finds an uncanny ressemblance between Henry Talbot and his deadbeat father, throws him out, prompting Henry Talbot to actually put some effort into wooing Mary again (with a false moustache so Patrick doesn't recognize him).
